Oxente. Ôxe. Esta frase do Ariano Suassuna não vem para ofender, vem para reforçar o amor a um linguajar tão nosso, tão vivo... Pelas oportunidades profissionais e da militância conheci quase todos os Estados do meu país, só não fui a Roraima...mas ainda irei lá. Em cada lugar que eu fui, eu trouxe uma pequena lembrança, nem que fosse um ímã de geladeira. Em cada lugar eu buscava conhecer a cultura e a culinária local. Voltava embriagado de Brasil, de Brasis. Independência do Brasil só teve mesmo, porque os nordestinos expulsaram as tropas portuguesas. Mulheres e homens de fibra. Que contra o império, o centralismo republicano e ditaduras, manteve-se pulsante. Aqui tem de tudo, coisas boas, ruins, como todo lugar...mas aqui tem uma coisa que só tem aqui: nordestinas e nordestinos. There's just so many slangs on Brazil

Really, sometimes not even us understand some slangs from others states

Well, there's one I find funny that is very used on... The north I guess? I know they say it a lot on Pará, but here where I live is used too, but not as they do

Égua

Is the femine of horse(cavalo) and can be use as a cuss alone(but is not really a swear word) or like "filho de uma égua"

But as I said égua is used a lot in Pará and Maranhão, it can be used to express astonishment(?) And surprise

Is kinda like "ôxe"(can also be written as ôxi), Wich is one of the most popular expressions on the north east, but it gives also the feeling of confusion

There is also "oxente"(oxe is actually a abreviation of this word)

There's this phrase "pode ir tirando o cavalinho* da chuva" Wich can be roughly translated to "you can take the (little*) horse out of the rain"

*cavalinho is the diminutive of cavalo, so you can also say "little horse" but I've put this on translator because my English stopped working for a moment lol

Is a popular expression on Brazil, Wich basically means to give up on a illusion or on expecting something will happen, like, to not wait for a determined event to happen

Like in something as "if you think I will clean your room, you can take your little horse out of the rain"

I've done little research and apparently English has a similar expression "don't hold your breath"

Since you taught me something I will also teach you something from my language (Chinese)!! I think it's very funny but in Chinese 'egg' is often used an an insult for some reason. i don't know why but a lot of like... swears/insults contain the character for egg in it. Like the equivalent of calling someone a bad apple in english is to call them 坏蛋 (pronounced like huàidàn) which means stupid/bad egg.
