Tumblr media
Lee Heon, who went stealthily at night, ran into Lee Shin-won. Lee Shin-won said, "I sent a letter to Your Highness as soon as my hand healed." Heon Lee said, "You should have conveyed that in the letter," and asked, "Did I hurt you?" Then Lee Shin-won replied, "I betrayed you. Please do not spare me like this. I will never be forgiven." Then Lee Heon asked Lee Shin-won to come back, saying, "You don't understand my heart until the end. It's not easy for me to let go of you, so come back and stay by my side."
Sorang was soaked in longing, remembering the moment when he was confessed to by Lee Heon. So-rang looked back on her past and thought that she was being punished by deceiving Lee Heon, who loved her. Her stranger listened to her story, and she offered comforting words. Lee Shin-won said, "I came to see Your Highness" and "He told me to come back." Then, he regretted, saying, "I don't think I could understand your heart or Her Highness's heart." Lee Shin-won said, "I think I can be with you now. You look better next to Her Majesty." He said, "I thought that. I must take you to a place where you can laugh." He tried to make So-rang happy until the end. .
A strange woman, Hwa-yoon (played by Jo Su-min), said that she was nominated for the crown prince's election. Then, he surprised So-rang and Lee Shin-won by saying, "Ye Hyeon-seon, the eldest daughter of Panseo Lee Jo, said to see her most influential future." So-rang said, "She has been avoiding it until now. I can't do it anymore." So-rang said to a strange woman, "I am the real Ye Hyun-seon. She has a cheong from you."
Meanwhile, the selection of Crown Princess began. Sorang entered the palace as a maid for a strange woman. When she sees Ye Hyun-hee (played by Song Ji-woo), So-rang addresses her, "Did you think I was dead, Hyun-hee?" The selection of Crown Princess revolved around Ye Hyun-hee.
Lee Hun was angry when he told the Great Queen Mother about the problems with the crown prince's selection. She told the Great Queen Mother, "I will also decide whether to forgive her and bring her back into the palace," foretelling that she would bring in Sorang. Then, Lee Heon began to dig into the problems of the crown prince's selection.
Returning to the palace, So-rang found Lee Hun's sleeping quarters, and Lee Hun approached So-rang and kissed her.

theodore nott was all long lines and arched brows. he had this air about him, somehing quiet and bristling, like a gust of wind growing steadily stronger. his hands were soft and his eyes haunted, and he had seen enough horrors to understand the world. those he trusted were few and far between, but if you’d gained his favor, he would follow you to the wild, he woud bury your skeletons with you. often he would disappear, but he would always come back and hold you. loving him was like trying to hold water in your palms.
pansy parkinson was all sharp edges and wolfish smiles. there was something about her, something blinding and harsh, like a too bright light. her touch was harsh and her gaze desperate, and she had been in a cage long enough to know it will never do. she did not love many, but if she wanted you in her life, she would claw into you, she would hold you close to her chest. sometimes she could hurt you, but she never meant to. loving her was like trying to kiss a lightning bolt.
they have been the center of each other’s world for years, the eye of the storm. from a luxurious childhood, to painful youth, to quiet adulthood. there had never been anyone else for either of them.

7.7.4. Corruption of the Min Administration
We would like to quote below part of the description entitled “Failure of the enlightenment policy and corruption of the Min administration” from pp. 33-34 of “Chapter 1. Enlightenment and opening of Korea”, Korean History II.
[  In February 1890, Min Yeong-jun became panseo (minister of personnel) and in March of the same year, he assumed the role of dangsang at the authority called Seonhyecheong, an important post for financial matters. […] Until June 1894, members of the Min clan led by Min Yeong-jun, including Min Eun-sik, Min Yeong-hwan, Min Yeong-sang, Min Yeong-so, Min Yeong-kyu and Min Yeong-dal occupied key positions. An increasing number of those people rose to the posts of panseo and champan. The force of the Yeoheung Min clan, belonging to the Noron faction, thus reached its peak.
However, during that time the enlightenment policy came to a halt due to financial difficulties, and very few new programs were launched. To deal with the financial crisis, the trade of posts and noble ranks became rampant. In particular, the posts of local officials were very actively traded. Those who obtained the post of suryeong (local magistrate dispatched to eup (towns)) at a high price tried to collect charges that were not stipulated in the legislation from the inhabitants they controlled during their service, thus attempting to compensate for the purchase costs and accumulate wealth. For that reason, the inhabitants under their control proceeded first to petitions, but when they found that their voices would not be heard, they launched uprisings, ousted the suryeong and attacked the local officials who were in charge of collecting the charges. (minran or popular uprising) […] Such popular revolts occurred every year from 1888 and peaked during the period from 1892 to 1894 , showing that the crisis of the government system had deepened.]
If the high-ranking officials of the Korean government themselves committed the trade of posts and ranks, who could have hindered such moves? It was known that the king and the queen were also engaged in such trades. The very fact that the rulers, who controlled politics, made up for the financial deficit of the national treasury by selling governmental posts and ranks pointed to the impending downfall of the Joseon dynasty.
To resolve the financial difficulty of the Korean government, it was essential to collect taxes from the Yangban, who accounted for 50-70 percent of the total population, as well as from slaves who occupied 10-30 percent. To achieve this, the abolition of the class system and the reform of various systems were indispensable. However, the king and the queen who destroyed the Kim Ok-gyun administration, which was prepared to conduct such reforms, and subsequent rulers did not try to do that.
