just watched the soonvijarn reaction video of bad buddy episode 4 for the first time and my words...... i was NOT expecting p'aof to start fricking tearing up because of that insanely great scene at the end (nanon you absolute absolute legend i don't think i could ever get over his performance here).
i mean of course i and you and everybody teared up when we watched it but i just did NOT expect the frigging director who had shot the scene (and who had probably seen the edits and the cuts multiple times) to do that.
throughout that part i wasn't looking at anybody else on that screen not even patpran cos here was the guy who brought them together on the screen who was behind the scenes who made this all possible viewing his show from the point of view of a passive audience member and feeling moved for his own characters and perhaps seeing his own queer self there too (idk if he has spoken about why he teared up or we know more about this from somewhere else) but with no other context this legit made me (as a queer person who writes queer stories) tear up and i had to pause and take a second to appreciate just how much this show is doing for queer people even outside the show.
it's all just a lot for my tiny fragile heart. i love bad buddy so much yall its made such a special place in my mind i could cry.

ahhh look at his eyes all welling up with tears arghhh I CANNOT
in hindsight though it was funny cos here i was tearing up over p'aof tearing up over pran tearing up over pat. it was inception but with tears, it was a tearception. alright thats it goodbye i will see myself out.

I'm really going feral over the change room scene because I think in a lot of BLs it would be played as a silly and camp moment built to lay on thick some sexual tension. but P'Aof is always so insistent that nothing queer is laughable. there's so much honesty in their tentative confusion and hesitancy, in the way the camera lingers on their hands and the shrinking space between them. the tension is physical, sure, but it's also emotional. P'Aof takes everyday tropes and plays them like a love song to the queer experience.

I was nervous about how Moonlight Chicken was going to handle the whole Alan-meets-Gaipa situation, because as much as I love the natural onscreen chemistry First and Khao have with one another with them being best friends in real life, Alan and Gaipa’s characters are a whole other story. They’d both gone through so much pain and upheaval in the last few episodes. The two of them deserved to be more than just be two random loose ends in a story that got paired up with one another for the sake of tying things up neatly.
But I’m actually so pleasantly surprised with how the show chose to maneuver it! Starting by first giving the both of them time and space to grieve, and to move forward with their lives on their own. Gaipa to grieve the loss of his mother, and also to make peace with Jim being happy with Wen. Alan to finally come to terms with the loss of a long-term relationship and to begin his own grieving process by letting go, leaving his and Wen’s pictures behind when he moves out, and deciding to “walk on his own” again.
And then, we are slowly introduced to the possibility of something new for the both Alan and Gaipa. I appreciate that the show doesn’t immediately throw the two of them into a new relationship and tie it up with a bow, but instead we get little hints that gives these characters room to breathe.
Gaipa and Alan are still working through their own things, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get to have those small subtle moments that come along with having a newfound crush: the instinctive smiling at one another, the silly excuses just to talk to one another and run into one another, the secret fond glances when the other person isn’t looking. It’s cute! It’s sweet! And honestly, the two of them really do deserve cute and sweet after everything they’ve gone through (Gaipa in particular - that boy has my whole heart and I would give him the world if I could.)
Anyway tl;dr, I’m very soft for the way Moonlight Chicken introduced the Alan x Gaipa concept. Two people who are still healing but get to have a hopeful ending with hints at new beginnings, all while still being surrounded by the people who have cared for them, and always will care for them no matter what, because that is what it means to be a part of a community.

just realizing that i can forgive shows if it's bad from start to end for whatever reason (the creators aren't very experienced/ the premise/characters/acting is not for me or i just don't get it) and i'd drop it halfway through at least it is actually so much better than painstakingly crafting a masterful story, luring in the audience with compelling characters, important messages and representation along with excellent actors and then ending up completely botching up everything in the last stretch. that's like making a perfect multilayered creamy decadent melt-in-your-mouth gooey-goodness level cake and then pouring tar all over it.
WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT!?!?!?
WHY???????
WHY!?
