chatted with dad today and mentioned to him that i might have to learn a bit more about how people cite sources and then he said "it's easy, when you say something you prove it by pointing to where you got that from. except when it's become common knowledge, like einstein's theory of relativity. you don't cite his paper every time you talk about it." and then he added, "my thesis advisor made a statistics methodology that's so commonly used that he's not cited anymore." and i'm just. wow. that's scary.

Stella has described me multiple times now as a person who actually reads coffee table books and I don’t really know what defines a coffee table book but I guess if wanting to read an early 20th century publication of The Birth Control Review makes me that sorta person then gift me all the coffee table books you like, fellas.

So like, locked room murder mysteries are probably the most popular types of murder mysteries, but I mean it’s also gotta be hard to pull off, right? ‘Cause having a murder in a locked room where it’s apparently impossible to commit and escape means there HAS to be a trick and then you’re stuck trying to think of a trick that would make the locked room not actually locked. And the trick also has to be believable and satisfying, with all the right clues so that the reader feels like it’s fair play. The mystery writer has to grapple with this, the center of all locked room mysteries, this “locked/not locked” conundrum—call it the “locked-ness monster”—

Sometimes you just sort of remember that FDA warning letters exist and you wander over there to take a gander and then you find out that a Dollar Tree facility has been infested with rats ever since January of 2020 and only decided to permanently close the facility in May 6, 2022, and then you read a long list of inspectors just seeing all this bullshit, including finding piles of trash and old conveyor belt parts in a section of the facility apparently nicknamed the “Junk Yard” and then you just kinda stop reading for a while

Oh something I forgot to mention, when I was at Stella’s salmon party I played trivia murder party 2 and managed to win because the very last question was a darkwing duck question and when I saw it I yelled with gleeful surprise just absolutely shouted with wordless joy

Brains will sometimes remind you of the most random thing today I woke up with the sudden reminder about someone’s neopets oc(?) who lived (is locked up?) in this white lab-like thing where their job was to…stock shops? I think it was a grundo, and the stocks were shopped by the items being inside these spheres, and they would move the spheres to the right chutes. And then I think they suddenly got a petpet? Because maybe one of them escaped from one of those spheres? Anyways.

Asked my dad if he wanted Mac and cheese for lunch and he said “no, I had my protein” then I asked him if he gets vitamins and he said “I take multivitamins every day” and after I told him that, those are supplements, they aren’t supposed to replace eating food, he said “oh, good point.”

Anyways I cut two oranges up and he devoured them and said “I can feel the vitamins coursing through my veins.”

I have a very vague elementary school memory where…I think once I had a holographic charizard card, and another kid was interested in it and just convinced me to give it to him and he’d give it back later (I did not have the concept of “lying to take advantage of someone”) and then when I tried asking him about it later he claimed he left it in my locker

anyways, now all I can think is, “wow what a hustler.”
