Strigidae
Tumblr media
Also just called owls, but Strigidae is very fun to say, so I'm going to say that. Strigidae are a genus of nocturnal birds of prey pokemon. They're known for their sharp talons, binocular eyesight, and silent flying feathers. The word Strigidae itself means "shrill," which is definitely what these pokemon are known for.
Because of Rookidee'a feathers resembling an owls feathers, many people think that the Rookidee line are Strigiformes. But, they're not and are pure corvuses.
Strigidae Pokemon
Hoothoot/Noctowl
Rowlet/Dartrix/Decidueye
Spritzee/Aromatisse (they're also in the Corvus family and Phoenicopteridae (flamigo) family)

Lagamorpha
Lagamorphs, also known as bunnies or rabbits, are pokemon characterized by being mammals, having long ears, fur on their paws, four limbs, and two sets of incisor teeth.
There are some pokemon in this family that some people find controversial, being Wigglytuff and Clefairy. While they seem to be highly diverged Lagamorphs, research shows that they might actually be from the moon, which begs the question of how that would even happen. Needless to say, they're still on the list.
Lagamorph Pokemon
Buneary/Lopunny
Bunnelby/Diggersby
Scorbunny/Raboot/Cinderace
Audino
Azurill/Marill/Azumarill
Igglybuff/Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff
Cleffa/Clefairy/Clefable

Pokemom Families: Monocot
Tumblr media
(Art by Jira (ziraiya 26)
Monocot is group name for plant like pokemon. This doesn't include all grass types, as some pokemon are grass types for their plant-like abilities. The monocot family only includes Pokemon, which are plants, or most of their bodies have extremely similar qualities of plants. So pokemon like Bulbasaur aren't in this family because the seed is planted on them by their mothers right after they're hatched and doesn't come naturally.
Appletun (just Appletun, not Applin or Flapple) were thought to be Monocots for a while. But they don't fuse with the apple that protected them when they evolve as a lot of people thought. The lower part of the apple is digested into their body through evolution, while the upper part is still used as protection for their soft head. Their body just resemble and apple enough, but not enough to be classified as a Monocot.
An important fact to know: Mushrooms are in their own family known as Agaricaceae, and are more related to mammals than they are plants! Because of this, Pokemon like Shiiinotic and Foongus have confused researchers for a long time. They are obviously grass types, and have similarities to plants, but have more similarities to mushrooms. It could've been that these pokemon evolved from ancient plants similar to mushrooms, but that's just a theory as of now. Because of this, they aren't on the list of Monocot Pokemon
Members of the Monocot family are:
Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume/Bellosom
Sunkern/Sunflora
Cacnea/Cacturne
Cherubi/Cherrim
Petelil/Liligant
Fomantis/Lurantis
Bounsweet/Steenee/Tsareena
Smoliv/Dolliv/Arbolvia
Carnivine
Gossifluer/Eldegoss
Bellsprout/Weepinbell/Victreebell
Hoppip/Skiploom/Jumpluff
Exeggcute/Exegutor
Budew/Roselia/Roserade
Maractus
Phantump/Trevenant
Capsakid/Scovillain
Pumpkaboo/Gorgeist
Bramblin/Brambleghast
I'll put the fact posts on Monocot pokemon as I make them, but I'm also going to put Appletun here, because I've talked about it a lot.

Agaricaceae Family
The Agaricaceae is a genus of pokemon that resemble or are fungi. Often times, they are put into grass types showing that they still have some sort of plant-like qualities to them, but mushrooms (the most well known fungi) are actually more related to humans and pokemon than they are other plants.
There are are 2 false Agaricaceae; Paras and Parasect. They aren't put into this family because the bugs themselves are not mushrooms.
Then there's 3 pokemon who are in both the Monocot family and the Agaricaceae family; Oddish, Gloom, and Vileplume. (Explained why here)
List of Agaricaceae Pokemon
(Assume their pre evolutions are here as well, it seems redundant to put the entire line)
Vileplume
Breloom
Amoongus
Shiinotic
Toedscruel
Brute Bonnet

All bird-like Pokémon are in the Vian Sicut (meaning avian like) genus, common traits include feathers, bills or beaks, wings and the ability to lay eggs kinda redundant tho since all pokemon can lay eggs but shush i’m putting pokemon through the lens of the real world, Water, Flying and Normal types seem to be common types among bird-like Pokémon but there are a few exceptions to this such as Decidueye and the Spritzee lines
All lizard-like Pokémon are in the Sicut Lacerta (meaning lizard like) genus, common traits among lizard-like Pokémon scales, claws and long tails, common types among lizard-like common types are Electric, Fire and Poison, though there are a few exceptions to this such as the Treecko and Sobble lines
