When Aubrey arrived home that evening, she didn't really expect to be met with a cloud of smoke when she walked in.

While her first instinct was to run in and check on her girlfriend, it was easy to spot Chloe in the kitchen, surrounded by pots and parchment paper and a messy array of ingredients. The windows were already wide open and despite her girlfriend's desperate attempts to fan the smoke away, some of it still managed to spill out into the hallway.

"Aubrey!" Chloe squeaked, dropping the baking sheet she was using in an attempt to wave the smoke out the window. "You're home early."

"And you seem to have started a fire," she raised a pointed brow at her girlfriend before offering a quick, sympathetic hug in greeting.

While Chloe wasn't the best cook, she also wasn't bad enough to have ever started such a smokey mess. It must've been one messy recipe to get her girlfriend to ruin it that bad.

"No, no! No fire, Bree, promise! This is, well," Chloe's lips pursed as she looked for an explanation, a cute crinkle forming by her brow that made the mess in their apartment seem much more excusable. "This is me trying!"

"Trying? To recreate Frankenstein's monster?"

"Hey! I was trying to make you a cake," Chloe pouts, half-offended and half-amused.

"This is you trying to make a cake?" Aubrey laughed, pulling Chloe in by her hips. Chloe's pout deepened despite the closed distance. "Baby, you don't need to win me over with food. I'm already yours."

Chloe grumbled half-heartedly in reply and Aubrey gives in to the urge she's had since she found Chloe fanning smoke out their kitchen window. She kissed her deep and slow and sweet and relaxed at the knowledge that Chloe was safe, even if their kitchen was not.

She'd live through a thousand ruined cakes if it means she'd get to come home to this.

Pitch Perfect RarePair Week 2022, Day 1

Because we all know the REAL reason Jessica and Ashley didn't get much screentime in the movies was because they were busy being James Bond-esque super spies/secret agents and living out their very own Mrs. and Mrs. Smith AU. Speaking of, hey, Pitch Perfect fandom? I have seen ZERO Mrs. and Mrs. Smith AU's for these two yet and I am APPALLED. It's perfect for them! Secret hidden lives, confusion over names (because they've got so many cover identities it's hard to keep track who's who), JESSICA'S LAST NAME IS LITERALLY SMITH THIS FIC WRITES ITSELF.

*ahem*

Anyways, welcome to my first entry (EVER!!) for Pitch Perfect RarePair Week! I rewatched the first movie recently, hyperfixated, and came to the realization that, apparently, it's "oops all rarepairs and hot takes" for me 😅. This seemed like the perfect way to tentatively test the waters of truly joining in, ya know? And so, I offer this drawing as your prompt, oh fic writers of the fandom; if you want to write this AU, you've already got free fan art for it! And my undying devotion.

This is, of course, for Prompt #1, "this is me trying"; I'm sure this was intended to be an angsty, emotional turmoil between partners prompt, but I couldn't help but turn it on its head into a comedic exchange in the middle of a High Stakes Infiltrate-and-Extract job, ya know? YOU try cracking the safe then, Jessica, if you think it's so easy! 😂

Provided I can, ya know, ever finish writing the damn thing 😅. Though I will warn y'all, Day 2's entry may or may not be late, as I only had the idea for it a couple days ago and I haven't had time yet to draw it 😅 we shall see how quickly I can get it put together!

Chloe is sneaky.

She is soooo sneaky.

The sneakiest.

Which is why she's incredibly surprised when her subject knocks on her window and waits for her to roll it down.

While the safe decision would be to probably run, Chloe's never been the safest PI around, so she rolls her windows down and prepares for the yelling that's inevitable when being found out (or, if luck is on her side, a confused question of an oblivious subject looking for the nearest convenience store).

Once her window is fully rolled down, she waits for the pretty blonde she's been surveilling for the past two days to speak.

But seconds pass and the woman just stares down at her with a sharp brow and a stern frown, so Chloe speaks first.

"Hi! What's up?"

The blonde's brows furrow as she scowls down at her, toned arms crossing as the other woman hisses, "Why are you stalking me?"

"Oh, no! I'm not stalking; I'm a private investigator."

"Then why are you professionally stalking me?"

"I'm not-" Chloe cuts herself off at the glare the other woman shoots her way. "Okay, well, see, one of my clients hired me to find you and I did! But, well, I don't know, you don't look like you really want him to find you."

The blonde scoffs, incredulous. "So you've been stalking me to tell him that I don't want him to find me?"

"Oh, no! I won't tell him anymore, I think. He was kind of rude when he filed the case and didn't want anything signed either so it's not super binding like my usual cases. I'm just here to make sure you're safe, is all."

"You stalked me to make sure I'd stay safe from my stalker ex?"

Chloe cringed, sighing. "Well, when you put it that way..."

The other woman let out an exasperated groan, running a hand through her hair before she bent down to finally get a good look of her face. "What's your name?"

"Oh, right! I'm Chloe," she offered her hand, an apologetic smile curling her lips. "Chloe Beale."

The blonde looked at her hand for a long, quiet second before she finally took it, shaking it slow and strong. "Aubrey Posen, but I suppose you know that."

"I do," Chloe laughs and shrugs. "But it's nice to actually meet you, Aubrey."

"I don't know if I can say the same," Aubrey purses her lips before a slow, crooked smile starts to spread. "Yet. How long have you been in this tin can?"

Chloe tilts her head, thinking. "Just a little over two hours. You're home later than usual."

"That's a little creepy but I guess that comes with the job," Aubrey chuckles, finally seeming to accept the strange circumstances of her day. "So, coffee? I know this nice cafe down the block."

"I'd love to! Hop in!"

"Oh no, I'm sick of seeing this car. We're going to walk."

Chloe laughs but agrees, jumping out of her rental with a skip in her step.

So maybe Chloe's not so sneaky. She can live with that.

First of all let us say that SpookFest was awesome, some of those stories were so good that some of us will be sleeping with the light on for a few days. But Pitches, it is November, and before you guys start singing to Mariah Carey, and thinking about decorations, trees and who kisses who under cute plants, we hope you’re ready for another fun week of stories to come your way!!!

*drags myself in out of sheer force of will, collapsing immediately on the floor, holding this post aloft like a hard-won trophy* I did it. I got the drawing for today's prompt done. Here you go.

So, backstory: this is technically related to what will now be three posts later this week (because there's supposed to be a second part of this drawing based on Prompt #7, "I can't say it so I'll sing it", that will now be posted along with my original unrelated idea for #7 on Sunday), all of which are based on a fanfic I've been writing for a couple months now. Said fic (and two of the three posts) is Jeca-centered, but it's based in a little pocket verse that has a LOT more going on in it than just their whole... Thing, and that includes other RarePairs hanging out and generally being adorable in the background. (This includes all of the rarepairs I'm featuring this week, btw.)

Enter Chaubrey, who have their own side story going on that includes at least one gay panic (Aubrey), years of pining (Chloe, literally from their freshman year at Barden onwards), a mutual realization of "holy shit there might be something here, actually!" (Seen above, more on that below), a few months of hesitant flirting and maybe-sorta-kinda dates, and, finally, a reveal of feelings through meaningful glances during a duet featuring the rest of the Bellas (and a subsequent mutual decision to sneak off and talk things through after... Which may or may not lead to smooching in a broom closet somewhere. Maybe. Yes, Fat Amy finds them, and, no, she never lets them hear the end of it, even at their wedding a year later). It's a lot, is what I'm getting at here, that unfortunately goes mostly unsaid in-story due to the POV(s) I'm writing in, but I felt it was important that y'all know about it anyways because they live in my head rent free. Constantly. So.

Now, as for this scene specifically: set roughly 1 and a half years after PP3, Aubrey and Chloe are helping Beca pick out a wedding outfit as the Chief Bridesmaid and Maid of Honor, respectively (a position that Chloe threatened to fight Fat Amy for until Beca, in fear of "the Kraken has been unleashed!", declared that Chloe was Maid of Honor and Fat Amy would officiate, end of story), a month or two after Beca announced her engagement via a group zoom call (and Chloe's excited reaction subsequently provoked a Gay Panic™ in Aubrey as she suddenly had the realization that "I want to see her smile like that for the rest of my life", a Totally Normal and Measured Reaction to have for your best friend of course). Stacie would help but she's trying to wrangle a flower girl dress for little Bella across the country in New York, and Emily is splitting her time between song writing and helping with other logistics ("I've been researching venues, did you know there's actually an old movie theatre here in LA that can be rented out for weddings?" "rEALLY?!?! 😍" "NO." "Come oooonnnn, Becs, you gotta admit that's cool!" "Not. Happening."), So it's down to Chloe and Aubrey to help find the perfect wedding gown suit for Beca, because, and I quote, "Just because I agreed to a wedding does NOT mean I'm gonna be like every other bride on Say Yes to the Dress or whatever, if we're doing this we're doing it my way, and I'm not wearing a poofy overpriced dress that I can only use once, got it?" ("But, Beca, don't you wanna, I dunno, dress up for your husband-to-be? Go the whole nine yards?" "Are you kidding?! Jesse offered to just go up to the courthouse and be done with it, he's still amazed I said yes in the first place. It was only after I reminded him that you pitches would hunt us down and murder us if we got married without you that he agreed to do an actual wedding." "...Damn. You two really are made for each other huh." "You're also correct, there would be nowhere on this planet you could hide from our wrath if you'd eloped. Fat Amy has connections.")

Anyways.

In the midst of the chaos of trying on outfits and assuring the sales associate at each shop (because there are multiple shops visited, by the way) that, yes, she really does want a suit instead of a dress, and no, she won't be persuaded otherwise, and in trying to find matching bridesmaid outfits for the rest of the girls, Chloe and Aubrey find some moments to just... Talk. They haven't been able to talk much since the tour, at least in person, and they've missed that. They've missed each other. (Hence, the prompt!) Herein comes the realization that they're both single (rip Chicago you'll debatably be missed), and the mutual blushes and unusually shy glances start clueing them each in that, huh. It's almost like... She might... Reciprocate??? My feelings??? But they don't quite get to unpack that because there's still suit shopping to do!

But they'll get there, don't worry! We'll get the resolution to this little storyline on Sunday, because what better way to finally confess your feelings than with the same mashup that first truly brought you and your friends together! 😎

In the meantime, I've got bonus posts going up tomorrow and Thursday (because I couldn't come up with anything for either of those prompts, though I did try), then we're back with the last 4 true Prompt Entries™ starting Friday, with two entries for Sunday!
