Kansas City Chiefs : background
Team background
The Kansas City Chiefs operate a "west coast" style scheme that plays a heavy part of their offence. A west coast scheme is philosophy and an approach to the offense. The traditional thinking behind an offence is you must establish a strong running game which then will open up the passing lanes downfield because the defence will commit more play to stop the run which was open more space downfield. The west coast system also attempts to make play calling unpredictable, which forces defenders to be prepared of a multitude of possible plays rather than focusing on a few likely plays (Clark, 2020)
In 2019, the Chiefs hired Steve Spagnuolo as the defensive co-ordinator and as a result the Chiefs changed the defensive scheme from a 3-4 to a hybrid 4-3. A 4-3 defence incorporates 4 down linemen and 3 linebackers. The defence also includes 2 cornerbacks, one strong safety and also one free safety. The 4 down lineman will consist of 2 defensive tackles (DT) and 2 defensive ends (DE). The three linebackers all have a different role in the scheme. The SAM (strong side) linebacker will line up against the opposing teams tight end (TE). The WILL (weak side) linebacker will be placed on the opposite of the SAM linebacker. The final linebacker spot is the MIKE (middle) linebacker and they are placed between the 2 others. The corner backs will play on the perimeter and they typically will play around 5-8 yards back from the line of scrimmage (Clubb, 2019)

Figure 1: Shows the 4-3 defence formation and how it is aligned.
Resources The Kansas City Chiefs currently employ have 5 staff that the form the "coaching support staff". These positions include Statistical analysis coordinator, Director of video operations, assistant director of video operations and 2 video assistants. The Chiefs also have many have positions on the team such director of college scouting, director of pro personal, pro scout as well as area scouts. The scouts will assess players in college football and also other players in the league who can potentially join the Chiefs via trade or free agency . The Chiefs will not only have personnel to help them scout but also technology and software too. GPS devices are worn by most collegiate players so they track data such as the speeds that the players reach and also positioning on the field. The use of GPS has increased importance especially in this current climate were interaction with other players and coaches are limited. For example, Penn state Wide receiver K.J Hamler had missed the NFL combine due to injury however was available to par take in his pro day. Unfortunately, due to the COVID pandemic the pro day was cancelled, Hamler was able to release his GPS data to NFL teams as evidence to his physical output and found his speed in particular was comparable to NFL players (Leimer, 2020).
Needs analysis
The requirements to play successfully in a west coast offence include the Quarterback (QB) being mobile and can move in and out of the pocket effectively. The QB also has to be an accurate passer who can make the correct decisions, although QBs who have the strongest arm can help push the ball downfield easier it is not essential in this system because shorter passes are key. Just like the QB the offensive lineman (OL) also need to be mobile and agile because they need to roll the pocket with the mobile QB. OL will be using zone blocking instead instead of a power run game. The wide receivers (WR) in the west coast offence have to be accurate route runners and also have to be able to create separation from defenders because of the shorter routes, also the WR needs to be able to make a play after the catch and turn a 5 yard gain into a 10-15 yard gain. The tight ends (TE) in the system have to be a good pass blocker but importantly have to be a possession receiver. TEs have to be able to catch the ball in traffic and the targets will most likely come in the middle of the field. The running backs (RBs) are the most versatile piece in the west coast system. RBs need to be a receiving threat, with good route-running skills. Aside from this, RBs need to be able to pass block especially when the QB has a 5-step drop back. The offense will look to break longer runs later in the game so RBs with great speed are important for this to happen. Size and power aren't essential for this position (Nogle, 2014). For the defence in a cover 2 system, the defensive ends (DEs) and defensive tackles (DTs) have the simplest job in the scheme. The lineman in a cover 2 scheme have the task of creating as much disruption as possible for the QB, this means forcing him out of the pocket or even sacking the QB. All 3 LBs in the defensive scheme have to have good lateral movement because they will have to be able to run and track the WRs, also having the ability read what route the WR is running is also key to help cause incompletions (Lemire, 2020). The secondary (which includes the cornerbacks and safeties) have the responsibility of covering specific zones on the field. When the ball is snapped the CBs are required to cover players from the backfield (if a RB runs a passing route) to 5-8 yards of the line of scrimmage. Concentration is key for CBs because they have to be aware of other players that will potentially coming into their zone and have eyes on the RB to see if they have a passing route designated. The safeties are the last line of defence so if any offensive player manages to get by them then this will most likely result in a touchdown. Therefore, safeties will require a tuned awareness to prevent offensive players getting beyond them. The linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties have the role of all swarming the ball carrier so the chance of the breaking tackles is reduced, thus meaning unnecessary yards are gaining from tackles being broken. Speed and strength are key components for the secondary and the linebacker core. This is because offensive lineman will look to force defensive players out of way to make running holes for the RB, therefore having the strength to shed the block is paramount. Speed is also a key component because offenses will look to move the ball vertically therefore having the speed to keep up with the explosive play makers can help reduce any gains from the offensive.

Boing Boing Charitable Giving Guide 2017 /Pls RT!
Tumblr media
Here's a guide to the charities the Boingers support in our own annual giving. Please add the causes and charities you give to in the forums!
The Tor Project The Tor anonymity and privacy tools are vital to resistance struggles around the world, a cooperative network that provides a high degree of security from scrutiny for people who have reasons to fear the powers that be. From our early hominid ancestors until about ten years ago, humans didn't leave behind an exhaust-trail of personally identifying information as they navigated the world -- Tor restores that balance. —CD
Planned Parenthood Because we deserve health care, including reproductive, gender, and sexual health care. Because access to birth control and safe abortion is a human right. Because Trump's regime wants to destroy all of this. —XJ
Software Freedom Conservancy Software Freedom Conservancy does the important, boring, esoteric work of keeping the internet from tearing itself to pieces, playing host organization to free software projects like Git, Selenium and Samba (to name just three). The Conservancy keeps these projects legally sound and gives them a scaffold to hang their institutional structures on them. Without the Conservancy, the software you love and depend on would be in dire peril
Electronic Frontier Foundation I have been proudly associated with EFF for a decade an a half now and have watched, half-awed, as it grew from a scrappy, brilliant little organization to a powerhouse of enormous scale and power. Every cause, every fight enumerated on this page and in your life and mine will be lost or won on the internet. EFF is the best hope we have of keeping that internet free, fair and open. —CD, MF
Creative Commons Creative Commons is best known as a tool for sharing-friendly artists, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Since the beginning, and all over the world, CC has provided governments, agencies, research and scholarly institutions and NGOs with the tools to easily share across borders and the bewildering array of copyright laws. We can't beat trumpism without collaboration tools, and that includes legal tools. —CD
Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia) For 15 years, Wikipedia has been figuring out how to negotiate truth among diverse and even warring points of view. It's not always pretty and it's not always nice, but no one's yet found a better way to let ideas bash against each other until something everyone agrees upon emerges. It's not pretty, but compared to our democracy, it's a beauty queen. —CD
Human Rights Data Analysis Group For more than twenty-five years, the team at the [Human Rights Data Analysis Group (HRDAG)](https://hrdag.org/) has held perpetrators of mass violence accountable. They are a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that applies rigorous science to the analysis of human rights violations around the world. They provide unbiased, scientific results that contribute to accurate quantitative arguments. HRDAG's analysis brings clarity to the often confused narratives of human rights violence and support the movement for justice. One of their bigger projects for 2018 examines the growing use of machine-learning techniques in the US criminal justice system. At best, these methods reproduce existing biases in data. More often, machine learning amplifies the biases in the data and thereby exacerbates criminal justice strategies that disproportionately affect marginalized populations. Currently, they are working with partners at the San Francisco Public Defender's office and the New York Legal Aid Society to evaluate risk assessment tools being used in those cities. They are also analyzing how current bail practices may disproportionately disadvantage marginalized populations, in particular, lower-income defendants. Other ongoing HRDAG projects include research on mass violence in Syria, Colombia, Mexico, and more.
Institute for the Future There are no facts about the future, only fictions. As we've learned in this election, nothing is certain about tomorrow. But even as our attention is captured by the present, we can begin to write the story to come. A place to start is the Institute for the Future's Future for Good fellowship.  Institute for the Future, where Mark and David are researchers, is a 50-year-old nonprofit that helps the public think about the future to make better decisions in the present. The Fellowship directly supports inspiring social innovators who are working to make tomorrow a better place. You can help too. Make a donation of $100 and you’ll receive IFTF Distinguished Fellow Bob Johansen's new book "The New Leadership Literacies: Thriving in a Future of Extreme Disruption and Distributed Everything." -DP & MF
The National Wildlife Federation National Wildlife Federation is a voice for wildlife, dedicated to protecting wildlife and habitat and inspiring the future generation of conservationists. Now's the time: the shortlist for our new Secretary of the Interior is reportedly Sarah Palin and Forrest Lucas, an "advocate of trophy hunting and puppy mills ... who never met a case of animal exploitation he wouldn’t defend." — RB
The Marine Mammal Center When seals, sea lion, or many other sea going pals need help, if they get lucky, they may be taken to The Marine Mammal Center, a veterinary hospital just for them. Thousands of heartbreakingly cute, but very wild, animals are rescued, rehabilitated and released on an annual basis. I'm a volunteer. In addition to the hundreds of highly trained volunteers that make the hospital run, the center always needs cash for fish and medicine.   —JW
The Southern Poverty Law Center & the Anti-Defamation League The Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defemation League fight hate, teach tolerance, and help secure justice, and fair treatment for all. "There is no 'them' and 'us.' There is only us." --Greg Boyle —JW
Facing History and Ourselves Facing History and Ourselves is an international educational group that helps young people study issues around racism, antisemitism, and prejudice in history, from the Holocaust to today's immigrant experiences to the killing fields of Cambodia. Their aim is to teach young people "to think critically, to empathize, to recognize moral choices, to make their voices heard, we put in their hands the possibility--and the responsibility--to do the serious work demanded of us all as citizens." —DP
Free Software Foundation/Defective By Design The Free Software Foundation's principled litigation, license creation and campaigning is fierce, uncompromising and has changed the world. You interact with code that they made possible a million times a day, and they never stop working to make sure that the code stays free.  —CD
Free Software Foundation Europe Software has eaten the world, and software freedom is increasingly synonymous with human freedom. In Europe, far-right parties and authoritarians are inheriting a constellation of gadgets and devices that are "defective by design," built to allow corporations spy on and control their owners -- and those thugs are contemplating how they can use those companies' extraordinary powers to put whole populations under their thumbs. Free software in Europe, free software everywhere! —CD
The Internet Archive: In an era where the control of information has been weaponized, the Internet Archive's mission -- universal access to all human knowledge -- is a revolutionary manifesto. The Archive isn't screwing around: they're siting a copy of their data in Canada to resist trumpian grabs and spying and redecentralizing the internet to save us all from tyranny.  —CD
Open Rights Group While we were all fighting about Brexit, Theresa May's Tory government passed the most intrusive surveillance bill in the history of modern democracies. It's a longstanding joke that the gnomes of Westminster Village think that Nineteen Eighty-Four was a manual for statecraft, but the joke is getting less funny by the second. ORG is a decade old: spunky, going though a timely growth spurt, and badly needed. —CD
Amnesty International I just looked up Amnesty's founding principles and found tears rolling down my cheeks: "Only when the last prisoner of conscience has been freed, when the last torture chamber has been closed, when the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a reality for the world’s people, will our work be done." These values need our support more than ever. —CD
ACLU On November 9, 2016 ACLU changed its homepage to a picture of Trump superimposed with the words SEE YOU IN COURT. ACLU's deep bench of kick-ass lawyers has been lately augmented by a much-needed group of freedom-fighting technologists, welded into the fighting force we'll need for the next four years and beyond: from voter suppression to free speech, the ACLU is key to the fight.  —CD, MF
Liberty With the UK plunging into surveillance dystopia where human rights are an afterthought and racial profiling is becoming official doctrine, it needs Liberty, an organisation with 80+ years' track record fighting for human rights in many incarnations of the British project. The Tories ran on a platform of repealing the Human Rights Act: when the government is officially anti "human rights," you need someone like Liberty to take the "pro" side. —CD
826 National Born in San Francisco’s Mission District in the back room of a pirate supply store, 826 National teaches young people the art and magic of creative writing through classes, DIY publishing projects, in-school programs, and drop-in tutoring at seven centers around the US. And it’s all free for the kids. Help open more 826 locations around the country! —DP
Fight for the Future Some of the Internet's savviest, hard-working-est activists. Fight for the Future is in all the Internet fights, kicking ass on Net Neutrality -- a fight that's back on in 2017, thanks Trump -- mass surveillance and justice for Chelsea Manning. -CD
Demand Progress Aaron Swartz co-founded Demand Progress, and as you'd expect from that history, they're relentless in reinventing the activist playbook for the 21st century. -CD
MySociety Software in the public interest -- it's a damned good idea. MySociety produces software like Pledgebank ("I will risk arrest by refusing to register for a UK ID card if 100,000 other Britons will also do it") and TheyWorkForYou (every word and deed by every Member of Parliament). It's plumbing for activists and community organizers. —CD

I’m compiling my “reading campbell as an utena fan” reblogs into one post cuz that was getting ridiculous.
Literally no one asked for this but i took Campbell’s hero with a thousand faces out of the library and I’m going to note anything that reminds me of revolutionary girl utena. Here we go
Literally the first thing in the book, a picture of medusa’s head. I’m suddenly reminded of how much emphasis there is on anthy’s coiling locks of hair as well as her eyes. I read in a liveblog that it’s significant kanae was struck by seeing anthy’s eyes when she removed her glasses - the glasses serve as a protective measure meant to conceal anthy’s emotion, but also her power. Reminds me of how modern reimaginings of medusa always wear dark glasses to not turn people to stone.
Page 7, on unsolved childhood issues: “we remain fixated to the unexercised images of our infancy, and hence disinclined to the necessary passages of our adulthood” It’s not very revolutionary to suggest that this is one of the main themes of the show; akip remains in his adolescent state of having left behind his childishly idealistic self (or rather been forced to leave it by anthy) but refusing to progress to true adulthood, choosing rather to fruitlessly chase that childhood state. Other characters are guilty of this too, of course, but it’s less striking because they’re actual adolescents - this is a somewhat expected (though Campbell wpuld argue, not natural) stage in their development, whereas akio is clearly past his due date and dragging everyone down with him.
Page 30, on myths and fairy tales - “typically, the hero of the fairy tale achieves a domestic, microcosmic triumph, and the hero of myth a world-historical, macrocosmic triumph” Not super relevant to rgu itself, but I’d often wonder about the relationship between myth an fairy tale, seeing as rgu relates heavily to both. Utena’s revolution, in the end, is microcosmic - she helped a friend, and achieved a higher degree of self awareness than before.
Page 32, on the world navel: “the torrent pours from an invisible source, the point of entry being the center of the symbolic circle of the universe, the Immovable Spot of the Buddha Legend, around which the world may be said to revolve. (…) the tree of life, i.e., the universe itself, grows from this point. It is rooted in the supporting darkness; the golden sun bird perches on its peak; a spring, the inexhaustible well, bubbles at its foot. Or the figure may be that of a cosmic mountain, with the city of the gods, like a lotus of flight, upon its summit, and in its hollow the cities of the demons, illuminated by precious stones.” WHEW. Where to even begin. In the context of ohtori this would obviously be the gate in the forbidden forest, and the arena itself. There is a spring of sorts at its bottom (even a wall of water), and a bird figure features at the gate. The arena with its staircase resembles a rose, which is close enough to a tree. You could even see the black rose’s basement as the demon hollows.Of course, we eventually find out that it’s all fake, a stage set by akio with anthy’s help, which in this context positions akio as a sort of false god.
Page 35, again on the world navel: “wherever a hero has been born, has wrought, or has passed back into the void, the place is marked and sanctified. (…) someone at this point discovered eternity. (…) the one who enters the temple compound and proceeds to the sanctuary is imitating the deed of the original hero. His aim is to rehearse the universal pattern as a means of evoking within himself the recollection of the life-centering, life-renewing form.” This one mostly caught my attention because of the word eternity, but then i thought of dios’s grave… Since his grave, the arena and akio’s planetarium are really one and the same, it could easily follow that anyone who enters it is seeking to emulate dios, or the prince archetype in abstract. This certainly applies to utena and akio, and perhaps other duelists as well to some extent.
OH WE GETTING TO THE TASTY PART NOW…… ANTHY TIME BITCHHH ITS THE MEETING WITH THE GODDESS CHAPTEROk immediately I’m struck by the phrase “the queen goddess”. I know akio says he thought of anthy as a goddess once, I’m trying to remember if anyone ever refers to her as a queen… she’s mostly seen in context of the princess-witch dichotomy but once you really get down to it it’s more complicated, like is the rose bride basically the epitome of the princess archetype? It does include hyperfemininity, victimhood, obedience, passivity and power that can be obtained by marrying her but which she cannot wield herself… but the rose bride role is also explicitly tied to the witch, since it’s anthy’s punishment for imprisoning dios… It’s also interesting how despised she is - the princess role is supposed to be respectable (especially if we connect the princess witch dichotomy to the Madonna whore complex) but anthy is constantly mistreated and degraded - which, yes, makes her more of a princess in Utena’s (and the viewer’s) eyes, but is also a direct result of her role as the rose bride. If the rose bride position is basically the dragon that the prince has to save the princess from then can the rose bride be synonymous with the princess?Wait I was originally going to talk about something else I think. Well anyway I guess the Ockham’s razor is that the narrative had to make sense somehow and couldn’t JUST be metaphors but. Idk man food for thought. Maybe the rose bride as a role is supposed to be a blend of the princess and witch traits, or maybe it’s meant to showcase how the two are just different sides of the same coin. Anyway I’m one sentence into this chapter and my bedtime is in 7 minutes
Campbell describes the two types of goddesses as representing the good mother - forever youthful, beautiful and kind - and the bad mother - split here into four types but generally cold and distant. I’m tempted to connect the two to the princess and the witch (or the Madonna and the whore) but Campbell explicitly connects the bad mother to Diana and emphasises her chastity, when sexuality is such a big part of both the witch and the whore… hmm
K it’s late so I’ll continue sometime else but I wanted to mention that this whole thing was a result of reading this fantastic essay on anthy and specifically the part about Campbell’s goddess
Page 97, still on the goddess: “woman, in the picture language of mythology, represents the totality of what can be known. The hero is the one who comes to know. As he progresses in the slow initiation which is life, the form of the goddess undergoes for him a series of transfigurations: she can never be greater than himself, though she can always promise more than he is yet capable of comprehending. She lures, she guides, she bids him burst his fetters. And if he can match her import, the two, the knower and the known, will be released for every limitation. Woman is the guide to the sublime acme of sensuous adventure. ” This is the passage quoted in the essay that inspired me… The part about transfigurations is painfully reminiscent of anthy for sure, but the “she can never be greater than himself” sounds more like utena to me, makes me think of that digibro quote about how romantic interests in self insert power fantasy shounen anime (either Sao or asterisk war in this case) are often supposed to be the second best warrior right after the number one hero because they’re a sort of status symbol but of course can’t undermine the hero’s ego. Similarly akio wants utena at her strongest and only wants her because she is the strongest but still wants her beneath him. Also the phrasing of “the knower and the known” is so telling…. Even if a woman is meant to signify great knowledge it’s still in a way that makes her something passive, an object for the hero to consume. This reminds me of the born sexy yesterday video where he remarks on how even if the female character is supposed to be impossibly wise it just means the male hero is the one who gets to “discover” her
Page 99, still on the meeting with the goddess: “and when the adventurer, in this context, is not a youth but a maid, she is the one who, by her qualities, her beauty, or her yearning, is fit to become the consort of an immortal. Then the heavenly husband descends to her and conducts her to his bed-whether she will or no. And if she has shunned him, the scales fall from her eyes; if she has sought him, her desire finds its peace” God, what a creepy and accurate way to portray utena and akios relationship. He sees her as worthy of becoming his bride, he rapes her, he almost has her serve herself to him on a golden platter until she decides to pick up the sword and fight him. He sees himself as her god.
desktop is really fucking this up depending on what device i rb on but alas. lets continue. surprisingly enough i don’t have much to say about the woman as temptress chapter in relation to anthy because now that i think about it, the men of ohtori don’t really see her as one? nanami does, and maybe kozue too, but anthy generally isn’t very proactive when it comes to romance or sex… I guess Miki would be the closest example, since she seems to consciously try and get his attention by playing the piano, but Miki is pretty oblivious to it, so.Trying to think of other characters who might fit that trope… Kozue does act pretty provocative both towards the random dude she flirted with and Miki, but their relationship is one I don’t have much of a grip on tbh. Really the tempting spotlight is pretty firmly on Touga and Akio in this show haha
reading the “atonement with the father” chapter and, like, it’s kind of annoying how much the male hero is the default in this book, with the female hero only an occasional mention, but it does remind me of anthy’s incredibly fucking disturbing line about how akio is “more like her father” since their parents are nowhere to be seen. i don’t really have anything profound to say, but it is pretty interesting that parents are such a non-entity in rgu, given how prominent the mother and father figures are in psychoanalysis and archetype theory. should akio be read as anthy’s father, acting as one in the absence of the real thing, the same way he acts as the chairman? i’m not super familiar with the electra complex theory, but if the resolution to the oedipus complex is letting go of the unhealthy attachment to to mother and reconciliation with the father, i guess the analogous resolution to the electra complex would be letting go of the father? which anthy, in this reading, does do… but then again in rgu it’s akio who rapes anthy and we see him rather than her initiating sex so i doubt the writers had uncritically reproducing freud’s theory in mind
nothing too insightful but in the chapter the magic flight campbell talks about a welsh myth about Caridwen and she seems like a perfect witch character
page 209, on freedom to live - campbell quotes the end of the grimm brothers’ little briar rose, but precedes it with “When the Prince of Eternity kissed the Princess of the World, her resistance was allayed”. the phrasing of course caught my eye, but i’d never really seen anyone go in depth about the similarity between sleeping beauty and utena’s childhood story… the shadow-faced version that sometimes appears at the start of an episode omits utena sleeping in her coffin, but includes the prince kissing her tears away - something that did happen in the ep34 flashback, but was not what made baby utena get up. i suppose i don’t have anything terribly profound to say about the relationship between rgu and sleeping beauty, aside from some similar elements - the sleeping princess kissed awake by her prince, the princess in the grimms’ version being called briar rose, and the unspecified thorny bushes possibly being roses as well… and the witch, of course
page 259, matrix of destiny. “The universal goddess makes her appearance to men under a multitude of guises; for the effects of creation are multitudinous, complex and of mutually contradictory kind when experienced from the viewpoint of the created world. the mother of life is at the same time the mother of death; she is masked in the ugly demonesses of famine and disease. The Sumero-Babylonian astral mythology identified the aspects of the cosmic female with the phases of the planet Venus. As morning star she was the virgin, as evening star the harlot, as lady of the night sky the consort of the moon; and when extinguished under the blaze of the sun she was the hag of hell” campbell continues to insist on tying every female character back to the mother, which doesn’t really seem to be very relevant with anthy, but i’m digging the various aspects of the woman. seems interesting to me how this is at least the second time he’s characterised the woman in myths as someone constantly changing roles and aspects (first time was on page 97) whereas i don’t really see this tendency in male characters. women seem to need to constantly adapt, shift their identity to suit the male character, who is allowed to remain stably himself. also fascinating are the particular archetypes campbell brings up - the virgin (princess), the harlot (rose bride? the position does seem to be given respect on some level, but in practice she doesn’t get much... add to that the design elements tying her to the “scarlet woman”, and possibly even the playboy bunnies, and her duties do seem to include sleeping with every Engaged if the movie is anything to go by), consort of the moon (we all know what akio and anthy’s connection to the moon...) and the hag of hell (witch)
this has very little to do with rgu but reading the Mwuetsi/Massassi myth kinda makes me sick lol!!! not only does it include the first man being given a woman but he symbolically impregnates her with some oil from a horn (subtle, also done without her knowledge since she was asleep) and she gives birth to all the plants on earth. ew
UH OK HE THEN GOES ON TO SLEEP WITH HIS DAUGHTERS.... AND THEN TO RAPE HIS NEXT WIFE.......... MR CAMPBELL CAN I GO like i know it’s old myths so it’s all symbolic or whatever but that doesn’t make it any easier to read lol
page 296, an offhand comment of “The characteristic adventure of the first [type of hero] is the winning of the bride - the bride is life” and my brain automatically supplied “life... eternity... that which shines... the power of miracles... the power to revolutionise the world” LMAO

The 2020 NFL free agents we would and wouldn’t pay
Tumblr media
Is Teddy Bridgewater worth a big contract? What about Shaquil Barrett or Jamie Collins? We debate.
Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are forever intertwined. The two Heisman-winning quarterbacks were the top two picks of the 2015 NFL Draft. They’ve each had underwhelming careers since, and now they’re both in danger of seeing their teams give up on them after 2019.
Winston and Mariota have combined to make one career postseason appearance between them in occasionally hopeful, mostly depressing tenures in Tampa Bay and Tennessee, respectively. Each has been benched for a journeyman backup in the past two years — Ryan Fitzpatrick for Winston and, just this week, Ryan Tannehill for Mariota. Now they’re each staring down free agency with plenty left to prove.
This has been a very bad use of the final year of their contracts; a season that, when played to its fullest, can lead to a lucrative long-term deal the following spring.
2019 is filled with players set to hit free agency next offseason. Sometimes these big contract-year performances portend success. Other times they’re outliers that convince a club to overpay for an average player — or worse. So which ones are we buying in on, and whose newfound glory looks like an illusion?
We take a look at seven different players heading into free agency in 2020.
Robby Anderson, WR, Jets
Anderson has been a useful weapon since joining New York as an undrafted free agent in 2016, but his uneven production could convince the franchise to look elsewhere for Sam Darnold’s top target. The former Temple star blew up with a 92-yard touchdown catch — the longest play of the year so far — in the Jets’ first win of 2019, but he’s generally been unable to exceed his 2017 breakthrough (63 catches, 941 yards) in the two years since.
Christian D’Andrea: Buy. Anderson has improved his hands considerably, going from 14 drops in his first two seasons in the league to just one since 2018. His inconsistent play would be concerning if it came alongside a consistent quarterback, but that’s not something for which the Jets are known. In the past two years alone he’s been treated to the Tunica Casino buffet of too-young Sam Darnold, too-old Josh McCown, and too-Luke-Falk Luke Falk.
Let’s see what Anderson can do with a continually improving Darnold.
Adam Stites: Sell. Inconsistency has defined Anderson’s career thus far, but the flashes of brilliance will probably convince a team he’s a game changer. I wouldn’t be so sure. His 125-yard performance when Darnold returned was only the sixth 100-yard game of his career. None of those six games topped 150 yards.
Yes, he’s had a quarterback carousel but for a big-play receiver, he hasn’t made many, well, big plays. He’s averaged 3.4 receptions per game over the course of his career and some team is going to get stuck with a contract for a player who doesn’t do nearly enough. That production, as well as the fact that he was arrested once in 2017 and again in 2018, would have me looking elsewhere in the receivers market.
Shaquil Barrett, LB, Buccaneers
Barrett has emerged as a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, which is borderline shocking considering he’d only started 15 games in his previous five seasons as a pro. The Bucs’ prized acquisition leads the league with nine sacks, all of which came in a torrid start over his first four games of 2019. He’d had 14 sacks in his career before arriving in Tampa Bay.
D’Andrea: Sell. Barrett’s four-game sack streak upped his price tag significantly, but while he’ll only be 27 next month, I don’t think this impact is sustainable. Now that opponents know what he’s capable of, they’ve been successful in either rolling away from him or blocking him outright — he’s had only two solo tackles (no sacks) in his last two games.
I fully believe Barrett is a capable starting linebacker. But giving him top-tier pass rusher money — no doubt what his agent will be looking for after lighting the league on fire through the first quarter of 2019 — is an overpay.
Stites: Buy. An important aspect of Barrett’s 2019 success — in my mind — is that it’s happened without much help at all in Tampa Bay. None of his sacks were manufactured for him by interior pressure or another edge rusher flushing the quarterback into his lap. Over and over again, he’s had to win on his own to get sacks.
That’s why teams, recognizing that he’s the only pass-rushing threat for the Buccaneers, have been able to game plan around his abilities as of late. It’s also why I don’t think Barrett’s ridiculously productive September was a fluke. I’d be willing to roll the dice that — given a halfway decent supporting cast around him — Barrett could keep tallying sacks. That’s worth paying for.
Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Saints
The deal that kept Bridgewater in New Orleans this season expires next March, and his 4-0 record as the Saints’ starting quarterback could bring him the QB1 opportunity he’s been looking for since suffering a catastrophic knee injury back in 2016. He’s only thrown for 200+ yards twice in five games as his team’s primary passer, but has been tremendously accurate (69.4 percent completion rate) and shown the ability to make big throws downfield — most notably in a four-touchdown performance against the Buccaneers in Week 5.
D’Andrea: Buy — as long as you’ve got a solid defense behind him. While Bridgewater has never been the kind of passer you’d trust to put up big numbers in a shootout, he’s a steady, turnover-averse presence who makes your offense better. He showed the world he’s still capable of roasting teams by lighting up Tampa Bay, but he’s going to have success as more of a caretaker if he’s in the right situation.
Stites: Sell. It’s hard not to root for Bridgewater, but we’ve seen too many teams convince themselves that efficiency in the form of completion percentage and passer rating is way more valuable than it actually is. The Vikings overpaid Kirk Cousins for exactly that reason, expecting a player who completed an NFL-best 69.8 percent of his passes in 2015 to boost the offense.
But when Cousins completed a career-best 70.1 percent of his passes for the Vikings in 2018, the team’s offense was still 19th in points scored. Granted, there were problems beyond Cousins, namely the awful offensive line and struggling run game. Still, it’s a red flag when a quarterback completes passes but doesn’t actually accomplish much.
Bridgewater is top 10 in completion percentage and passer rating, but the Saints aren’t generating much offense with him at the helm. That’s a problem that will only get worse if he no longer has Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, and the great New Orleans offensive line.
Jamie Collins, LB, Patriots
Collins’ return to New England has seen him play the best football of his career. He’s been an integral part of the league’s top defense, doing a little bit of everything as an inside linebacker. He leads the Patriots in sacks, tackles, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles and has had, per SIS, a three-times bigger positive impact in six games this fall than he had all of last season in Cleveland.
D’Andrea: Sell, unless you’re the Patriots. Collins has been the perfect addition to an already powerful defense in New England, where he and Kyle Van Noy make up the league’s most solid inside linebacking duo. But we’ve seen what happens to him when he’s in the wrong environment. While it’s easy to write off his poor performance with the Browns as the purest function of the NFL’s most cursed franchise, questions linger about how he’ll adjust to a new scheme at age 30. We’ve seen other Patriots linebackers fade into nothing after rebuilding their value in New England, after all (hellllooooo, Akeem Ayers).
Stites: Buy. The Patriots-then-Browns-then-Patriots-again swapping for Collins revealed a couple things. There’s the extremely obvious: Bill Belichick is way better at putting together a defensive game plan specific to his athletes than Gregg Williams. But also, it’s revealed where exactly Collins fits best. He’s a versatile player who can make an impact in many spots, and he’s been especially good as a 3-4 outside linebacker so far in 2019. Don’t sign him and try to make him a Brian Urlacher-type of 4-3 middle linebacker like the Browns did.
Everson Griffen, EDGE, Vikings
Griffen has been a consistent positive presence for Minnesota in his 10-year career, but he could leave Minneapolis in 2020 in search of one last lucrative contract. Although the veteran pass rusher slumped in an injury-plagued 2018, he already has more QB hits (14) and pressures (27) in 2019 than he did then — and that latter figure is fifth-best in the NFL through six weeks.
He’s still a valuable addition — especially when pass rushers like Clay Matthews and Calais Campbell have proven they can still kick ass in their 30s. So is he worth a pricy deal?
D’Andrea: Buy ... for three years or less. Deals of that length typically carry much dead money into the final year of the contract, so any downturn at age 34/35 would create an easy escape route.
Stites: Buy. I’d also be wary of a long-term deal for a player who will be 32 in December, but that doesn’t seem likely anyway. There isn’t much sign that Griffen is slowing down and he’d slot in right away as a starter at a valuable position.
Derrick Henry, RB, Titans
Henry’s on pace for another 1,000-yard season, but only because a punchless Titans offense is running him into the ground. His 18.8 carries per game are 5.4 more than he averaged in 2018 and more than double his average touches from his first two seasons as a pro. He hasn’t done much to justify this attention, either; he’s averaging just 3.7 yards per carry.
He also gets stuck behind the line of scrimmage a lot for a 250-pound back who should ostensibly be a pile-pusher. In 2019, 28 of his 113 carries (24.8 percent) have resulted in either zero or negative yardage. Factor in his limited receiving prowess (45 catches in 53 NFL regular season games) and you’ve got a player who looks like a platoon back in 2020.
D’Andrea: Sell. He’s worth a shot in a non-Titans offense — the same offense that turned the once-dynamic Dion Lewis into a statue — but there will be cheaper options available who offer much of the same demonstrated strengths as Henry.
Stites: Sell. The one thing Henry has truly proven over the course of his career is that he can dominate the Jaguars. He’s averaged 79.3 rushing yards and 18.1 receiving yards in seven games against the AFC South rival. Henry’s had 46.8 rushing yards and 7.5 receiving yards per game against everyone else.
Bradley Roby, CB, Texans
Roby was awful in his final season with the Broncos, but he’s rebounded to make significant improvements as Houston’s top cover corner this fall. Per Sports Information Solutions, he’s seen his yards-allowed-per-target drop from a putrid 10.3 to a more manageable 7.3 — significantly better than fellow outside corner Johnathan Joseph (8.8). That’s not great, though it’s a solid number given the amount of deep targets he’s faced. While Roby’s tackling remains an issue, he’s allowed only 51 percent of passes thrown his way to be completed.
D’Andrea: Buy if he’s second in the pecking order on your CB chart, sell if you need him as your top corner. Roby hasn’t lived up to his first-round pedigree, but he has the talent to be a valuable second man up against potent passing offenses. His one-year prove-it deal in Houston has shown he can be a capable defender when needed.
Stites: Buy. The Texans are about to find out just how valuable Roby really is now that he’s expected to miss a month with a hamstring injury. Roby didn’t give up a single touchdown in the first six weeks of the season, according to Pro Football Focus. He was especially impressive against Tyreek Hill in Week 6. Patrick Mahomes targeted Hill five times while Roby was in coverage and the receiver only caught one of those passes for 8 yards.
When Phillip Gaines replaced Roby in the lineup due to the hamstring injury, he was roasted for two deep touchdowns by Hill. Roby’s not the biggest cornerback and he’s not great against the run, but anyone who can run with Hill is worth paying.

2019 NFL Mock Draft: Buffalo Bills take an offensive tackle
The 2018 Buffalo Bills had one of the best defenses in the league (2nd Passing Yards per attempt, 10th Rushing Yards per Attempt), and one of the worst offenses (31st Passing Yards per attempt, 20th Rushing Yards per Attempt) as a result their season was strings of ups and downs resulting in a 6-10 season, and the 9th overall pick. The Bills current roster has a solid core of young talent; Josh Allen who was projected as a developmental type QB took over in the second game of 2018 and showed signs to have management confident he will develop into a franchise QB, their WR corps while lacking a true number 1 have 4 legitimate NFL starters in youngsters Zay Jones and Robert Foster and the newly signed John Brown and Cole Beasley. They have an aging but talented RB group consisting of two Eagles legends and future Hall of Famers in LeSean McCoy and Frank Gore. The Bills revamped their starting line signing 5 offensive linemen in Free Agency, although only newly acquired center is locked in for more than 2 years. Defensively they are well balanced with a mix of young defensive talent such as LB Tremaine Edmunds, and CB Tre’Davious White, and veteran leaders like Star Lotulelei, and Micah Hyde.
Looking down the roster it was quite clear that while the Bills have plenty of room for improvement across the roster (most notably OL, TE, WR, and DL), there were no glaring holes and the team would be best suited by drafting the player who brings the most value for the pick.
When the draft started there were six players whom I considered to be slam dunk prospects that I have little doubt will be day 1 starters and future pro-bowlers if not all-pros, and felt very confident GMs would overreach for need and one would fall to me at #9, unfortunately the only player left standing was Devin White, and while the possibility of Devin White and Tremaine Edmunds gives my inner Buddy Ryan serious joy, I just can’t find the value in drafting an off-ball LB in the 1st round in back to back years, especially in the 3-4 system the bills employ. Leaving me with my choice of tier 2 talents, guys who I still expect to develop into pro bowl players, but have some question marks that make me need to think and revisit the tape. This pick ultimately came down to 2 players D.K Metcalf and Jonah Williams, and went down to the wire. Metcalf is a popular mock draft pick for the bills and it makes perfect sense, Josh Allen biggest strength as a QB is his arm strength so pairing him with a deep threat monster like Metcalf would allow him to fully take advantage of that strength. So why did I leave Metcalf on the board? Metcalf has several red flags (3 cone drill, injury history, lack of production, limited route tree) that give me pause, while Jonah really only has one (arm length) but more importantly I feel the value of a franchise tackle is of more value, than a franchise WR and this WR class is extremely talented with plenty of top talent available at the top of the 2nd round, so by my board the overall value of Williams and 2nd round WR would be of more value than Metcalf and the options available in the 2nd round. Add that in the worst case scenario and Jonah struggles at tackle, he is an ideal fit to slide in to guard and should be able perform at a pro-bowl level at that position, and despite the higher possible ceiling for Metcalf the choice to me became quite clear. Keep it simple, draft Jonah Williams.
So now I explained the why, let’s get down to the who.
Jonah Williams has been a mainstay on the Crimson Tide offensive line since he came on campus as the number 2 tackle recruit in the country. Starting as a true freshman at RT, and playing the last two years at LT in the toughest division in College football Jonah Williams has lived up the hype. Jonah Williams received all American honors all 3 years (2016 Freshman, 2017 Third-team, and 2018 Unanimous 1st team) and has only allowed 2.5 sacks and alleged 12 pressures the last two years (2.5 sacks and 8 pressures 2017, and 0 sacks and 3 pressures in 2018). Jonah Williams comes is to the draft as a complete prospect with 3 years of tape against top competition, and, despite all the opportunity to nitpick, very few flaws emerge.
The Bad
I’m going to start with the negatives because frankly Jonah Williams only really has one major red flag, and it will be easy to see on tape how irrelevant it is. It’s one of the flags that you will hear every time he gets brought up between now and when Mel Kiper gets done his super awesome and accurate draft grades but then come OTAs will never be discussed again. The big elephant on the draft board is Jonah Williams has short arms. For NFL coaches the ideal arm length for a tackle is at least 34 inches, Jonah Williams comes in at a Darren Sproles esc 33-5/8”. But Drc242, that’s only 3/8 of an inch, that can’t possibly be a big deal, well, luckily Pro Football Focus broke this down so I can show you just how big of a deal this is.
If that long-arm issue were really worrisome, surely it would have been exploited by likely first-rounder Clelin Ferrell (who is 6-foot-4 with long arms himself) in the National Championship Game. Below is every rep where Ferrell, and 6-foot-6 edge Austin Bryant, go with the long arm. Not one single pressure. As we can see, there are two key traits Williams possesses that neutralize his length disadvantage. The first is absurdly good hand placement. The fourth rush is probably the best example of this. As soon as Ferrell tips his hand, Williams swats it away, resets his hands and stops the long-arm before it even starts. The second is a rock-solid anchor. On the fifth play, Ferrell lands his hands perfectly with both engaging Williams’ shoulder pads. The problem is, Williams absorbs the contact, plants both feet and sits down in his tracks. He may be a touch over 300 pounds, but the Alabama tackle is an ox for a true junior.
SURVEY SAYS! ZIP, Nadda, Zilch, there is no significant statistical correlation between arm length and performance and in fact Jonah Williams tiny T-rex arms are longer than such scrubs like Future Hall of Famers Joe Thomas & Jason Peters, hall of very good players like Joe Staley and Duane Brown. Lineman fail for a large variety of reasons, but luckily for Williams arm length is seldom the reason why. If you still think Jonah Williams is going to struggle despite 3 years of amazing tape because his arms are 3/8” shorter than ideal, I would like to thank you for the amazing job you are doing as general manager for the Giants, keep up the good work Dave.
The Good
Jonah Williams, is not the type of tackle who will wow you with athleticism in open space, but in the trenches his technique is as good as a college prospect can get. The key elements to being an effective offensive tackle, Football IQ, hand technique, being able to set a base, and being able to mirror opposing pass rushers effectively. And Jonah Williams excels in all these and it shows up time and time again when you look at the tape.
These two plays are a great illustration of all of those attributes in action, at the snap Jonah gets a great kick and right away is in perfect position, absorbs the contact of the defender (and in the first clip batting the defensive ends hand away) gains leverage, and uses their momentum against them forcing them harmlessly around the edge of the pocket. Jonah Williams exhibits great snap timing and tremendous lateral agility that will allow him to maintain position and balance while dealing with speed rushers around the edge, and his tremendous base allows him to successfully handle a bull rush. His ability to recognize stunts is extremely impressive for a true junior, and is a great demonstrator of his high football IQ1.
Another aspect that goes underappreciated by Jonah is that he has the awareness to switch up his pass set and keep the opposing pass rusher on edge, in the above video unlike the rest of the snaps you’ll see Jonah gets aggressive and attack the defensive end and dominate him through the entire rep. Keeping the opposition guessing is a key element to success in the NFL, and Jonah has shown the awareness in college to not just settle in on one style of play but be able to handle the chess match necessary to win in the NFL.
In additional to tremendous pass blocking technique, Jonah is tremendous in the run game as well. He shows a great penchant for driving his defended back and to the ground and while you won’t see him streaking down the side line when asked to pull he is more than agile enough to get out in front of linebackers and drive them back in the open field. Very rarely would you see a missed assignment in the running game on Jonah’s account.
Wanted to end with these three plays from the National Championship game where Jonah Williams was matched up against 1 on 1 against fellow first round pick Clelin Ferrell, and why they give me super high expectations for Jonah at the NFL level. The first is to illustrate his ability to pat away the hand from Clelin preventing him from using his longer arms and then the ability to fluidly slide with him along the pocket. And the 2nd and 3rd Clelin initially wins with a strong bulrush, but you see Jonah Williams immediately recover and reestablish his base and win the rep, despite getting losing initially. Being able to adjust on the fly mid-play as things go wrong is what makes a lineman great, and on these snaps the transition from “Oh Shit” to “Business as Usual” is a testament to his fundamentals that will allow him to succeed in the NFL.
Jonah Williams is not the flashy sexy player who is going to make big plays and be a household name but that’s not his job as offensive tackle. You want an offensive tackle (left tackle especially) who you can let sit on an island all game long, going one on one against the opposing teams best rusher, and your QB will never even know they showed up to the game. From the day Jonah Williams set foot on campus at Alabama he did just that, and there is not a doubt in my mind that if he gets drafted by the Bills, he will be doing just that this season, and every season for the next 10 years.

Club Brugge vs Red Bull Salzburg

Club Brugge vs Red Bull Salzburg
bestfreebettingtips.com @bestfreebettingtips
Red Bull Salzburg returned to European action this week with their tie against Club Brugge in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 tie. The Austrian champions overcame a potentially tough group stage encounter beating the likes of RB Leipzig and Celtic to progress as group winners.
Having avoided a tougher draw, Salzburg would have fancied their chances against the Belgian club to complete the straight forward task of progressing to the next round, but Brugge were not going to roll over so easily. This feature will dissect and examine the different tactical aspects that were key in this game and how Brugge managed to silence the Red Bulls.
Red Bull Salzburg
Team sheet of Club Brugge vs Red Bull Salzburg [Credit: Wyscout]
Marco Rose lined up in his usual 4-3-1-2 looking to use his four dynamic midfielders to supplement his two in-form strikers. The full-backs would be used for width to try and get in behind the Brugge defensive line. Stefan Lainer and Andreas Ulmer have been in fine form for Salzburg this season and were instrumental in their victories against RB Leipzig and Celtic providing the impetus and supplying crosses that led to their goals.
Diadie Sammasekou and Xaver Schlager bring stability and protection in midfield while Hannes Wolf and Zlatko Junuzovic supplied industry and creativity to support the two strikers in Fredrik Gulbrandsen and Moanes Dabbur. The two strikers have been in scintillating form for Salzburg in the Europa League this season with 10 goals between them in the group stages. Their clinical finishing was expected to decide the outcome of the match.
Club Brugge
The Belgian club lined up in a 3-5-2 formation with the aim to try to remain compact in midfield and protect the defence whilst being able to counter-attack by winning the ball deep in their own half. Ivan Leko wanted his side to keep it tight and battle Salzburg in midfield to try and take the game to them. When the opportunity arose, the two full-backs would supply width for the two strikers.
Club Brugge produced a performance that no one would have expected. In beating Salzburg, they inflicted their first defeat of the season making the tie a much closer affair than originally anticipated. They salvaged a draw against Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund earlier in the campaign showing their capabilities.
First-half analysis
The first half took its time to settle and chances were snapped at by both sides. Even after the first goal, the game kept a similar pace with Brugge owning the majority of possession but were far less accurate than Red Bull Salzburg who had four shots on target. Both teams were looking to press and win the ball in midfield to attack with their wing-backs.
Brugge did well to disrupt Salzburg’s flow in the first half as they limit their chances. However, the first goal was something of a classic by Salzburg as they caught Brugge’s defensive line higher up. One long ball into the left channel by Andreas Ulmer to Zlatko Junuzović resulted in a goal.

As Andreas Ulmer receives the ball, he quickly plays it down the line and catches Brugge’s midfield and defensive lines out. The team was fixated on Moanes Dabbur’s position and did not notice Junuzović’s deep run. Some quick thinking from Junuzović saw him lob the goalkeeper who was off his line.
The first goal seemed to have sparked some life into Brugge who suddenly started to play a quicker passing game and tried to utilise their wing-backs more, bringing Wesley Moraes into play with his height and linking up with Hans Vanaken. The 6″2′ Brazilian striker was fundamental to their play throughout and not only used as a battering ram but dropped deep and linked up with the midfield. This coincided with the wing-backs attempting more crosses (eight) as the half wore on, making wide play and set-pieces more critical in the second-half.

Here we can see how Wesley attempts to move into the empty space to help his wing-back and create space for other runners to engage the empty space. He repeated this multiple times and made himself a nuisance to the Salzburg defence.
Second-half analysis
Brugge began the second half much more quickly than the first. The tempo was visibly higher and they moved the ball around much more energetically. They made two changes at the break bringing on Benoît Poulain and Krépin Diatta for Sofyan Amrabat and Dion Cools. These changes contributed to Brugge’s resurgence in the second-half.

The first minute brought about the first corner of the half and set the tone for what was to come. A header from substitute Poulain was cleared off the line by Dabbur. Poulain got away from his marker (Xaver Schlager) quite easily and should have scored.
Substitute magic

Brugge decided to focus on using the wings as they did towards the end of the first half and found success. Emmanuel Dennis was the catalyst for their improvement as his direct running style, interchanging play and crosses were instrumental in getting Brugge back into the match.
As you can see with his touch and heat map above, Dennis spent the majority of his time in the final third. Krépin Diatta’s introduction brought a lot more attacking impetus down the opposite flank as his industrious running stretched the Salzburg full-backs.

The cross misses the intended targets but reaches the opposite wing-back who fires a shot onto the post. [Credit: Wyscout].
As you can see here, Diatta makes an early run from his teammate’s pass down the flank. As he gets to the byline, he attempts to take on both Ulmer and Sammasekou whom he beats to get a cross in. With no one able to reach his cross, Dennis’ run from the opposite side manages to yield success as he fires a shot onto the post. Brugge’s influence over the match was starting to take shape and Salzburg needed to sustain constant pressure.
As the half wore on, Brugge gained a better foothold in the game and started to dictate play making it look as though Salzburg were the chasing team. A goal was coming and in the 64th minute, Brugge struck gold.

Stefano Denswill rises highest to beat Alexandre Walke. [Credit: Wyscout]
This corner had an identical setup to the goal with Salzburg using their zonal marking system against Brugge. The three men in the centre of the box are trying to run into the empty space ahead of them using their power and size advantage to win the header. Stefano Denswill loses his marker, rises highest and powers a header away from Alexandre Walke to equalise.
Wesley snipes
The winning goal came after a period of extended pressure by Club Brugge. The home team had used the momentum from the first goal to keep the pressure on and not allow Salzburg to rest, exploiting the spaces they started leaving.
Andreas Ulmer caught out of position [Credit: Wyscout]
Salzburg have been susceptible to crosses this season and it was evident again after Denswill’s first goal. Earlier in the group stages against RB Leipzig, Salzburg gave up a two-goal advantage to the German club courtesy of a headed goal from Yussuf Poulsen. The Danish striker rose high to score a thumping header. Shades of that evening in Leipzig were repeated here in Belgium when Wesley scored a header from close range to give Brugge the lead on the night.
Emmanuel Dennis yet again fires a cross into Wesley who is seem running into space (#7). [Credit: Wyscout].

Once again, Dennis makes another marauding run down the right flank and fires in a cross that is met by Wesley who scores to give Brugge the lead. The goal ensures they go to Austria with a fair chance of qualifying for the next round.
Quick recovery
Red Bull Salzburg would have been shocked by the result but more so by their performance after Brugge inflicted their first defeat of the 2018/19 season. They will still be considered favourites to progress but will need a near flawless performance next week to ensure they make it through.
Marco Rose will have to remind the players that the tie is not over yet and still salvageable but no complacency can creep in otherwise their hopes of bettering their semi-final finish will be dashed for yet another season. After losing Amadou Haidara to RB Leipzig in the January transfer window, it is only a matter of time before Europe’s heavyweights come in for their talented squad causing Salzburg to rebuild once more.
