Curious add-ons and why RonToto is sailing, Episode 7 (Part 4)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can’t decide the meaning of these additional scenes. I have two options. Either Ron asks Toto if he’d like to have a taste of his food covered in sugarcane syrup. And Toto smiles softly, shakes his head declining Ron’s offer. Or, Toto is shaking his head by way of scolding Ron because of his extra wishes being fulfilled. It must be both. Or, it’d be like this:
Ron: Oh well, this is me. What can I do? (That head turn thing)
Toto: Tsk, tsk, tsk…
This precedes Toto’s thoughts that he doesn’t know much about Ron’s past.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toto rushing to Ron’s side at the dome crying out his name upon seeing the dead Onodera the photographer and is immediately relieved by releasing a loud sigh, grateful that Ron is alive upon hearing his friend’s soft breathing.
Tumblr media
It is interesting that the anime version is limiting Ron’s asshole tendencies by being softer and kinder to Toto. In the anime, he’s really convinced that Toto will one day become a very capable detective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Must be the English translator or the anime writers’ choice to change some wordings that immediately transform these manga panels an altogether new experience for me to view Ron and Toto’s relationship in a manner that is soft built in trust and dependency.
Tumblr media
Apologies, I really love these scenes.

In the manga, Chikori only took a photo of Toto:
Tumblr media
But in the anime, they made it a candid couple photo, I can’t—
Tumblr media
The anime is really setting them up as a couple, and I’m not complaining

So, so glad to hear this. The way Youhei Azakami delivers this statement melts your heart. It feels like hearing him breathe and is relieved. Also, Wataru and co. changed it a bit.
Five years ago, I didn’t have Toto.

Honestly, this interpretation suggests that Ron doesn’t seem to share Toto’s enthusiasm.
Tumblr media
He might have heard what would be the possible side effects of his therapy.
Tumblr media
See the difference when he even smiled at Toto, a bit wary yes, but not so pessimistic.

The RKDD social media staff released a New Year’s audio before the year ends. This makes me miss anime RonToto already.
Here’s the angle. Toto is contemplating. I presume they are at Ron’s house. New Year’s Eve is upon them.
Toto: Another year will be over… Huh, you're early, Ron.
Ron: (This is the part where I cannot say if Ron was thinking or saying it out loud as the pronouns are wonky…) …. Like I’ve been very busy this year. Toto, the moment I'm about to drive the criminal to their death, your power of action activates to stop me from doing it. You did really well. Thanks for supporting me. It has been a very fulfilling year. Thank you.
Toto: I'm happy to hear that, but there’s something off. I can't believe you compliment me so much. I feel like there's something behind it.
Ron: As expected of Detective Isshiki! A great deduction in the name of the heart! Well, I was caught and now felt better. At the department store over there they sell black honey sweets that’s only available during winter. Can you please buy it for me?
Toto: I knew it!
Ron: I’m joking (Chuckles). It's true that I'm grateful. I look forward to working with you next year, Toto. (So softly uttered by Akazami.)
Toto: (Laughs bashfully) Thank you, Ron.
(Thank you @eiko-hoshino ! )
Toto knows Ron’s antics so well and in tune with him that the latter won’t be able to hide anything from the police officer.
My Fazit: These two are more intimate than the manga RonToto. The way Ron says Toto’s name is highly injected of softness and affection that you feel he cannot live without Toto.
Happy New Year, indeed!

Synopsis of Episode 6, “The Case of the Live Broadcast Murder”
Ron is obsessed with TV programs that verify the presence or absence of psychic powers. In the live broadcast program, the psychic Dankichi Torage and the neurosurgeon Dr. Usaki Mofu were facing each other. Torage shows off his psychic ability to manipulate the brain with the letters written on the board, but as soon as the contestant sees the word “death” on the board, he suddenly collapses…
* it seems they are going to compress again the two chapters in one episode to introduce Dr. Mofu.

The Characters added Winter Moriarty and they referred to Winter as male.
The fourth child of the M Family of the crime family. He is good at disguise and is secretly involved in incidents that Ron and his friends encounter. Although he has a ruthless personality, he sometimes shows an emotional side, and sometimes has disagreements with his older brother Milo.
One of the reasons I presume that Akira’s manga is a different world from the anime’s.

Hayami: Eww, I smell like coffee…
There’s something explicit about the grunt, Ron’s voice saying his thanks and the sigh of relief on Toto’s part. Apologies, it is just my dirty mind.

Synopsis for Episode 11, The Case of the Mad Chameleon Murder
Toto met Kawasemi Omito for the first time in a long time on a business trip to Aichi ordered by Amamiya. Kawasemi, who has been in a slump since he lost his subordinate Yamane, has lost the sharp insight he used to have. Currently, he is investigating a street demon case by an ever-changing criminal called “Mad Chameleon,” but a new crime happens in front of Toto and Kawasemi!
Bonus: Will they mention Toto’s Oma this time or are they going to omit her again?
Tumblr media
Kawasemi-san is back, back, back! At least for this episode.
Two more and this makes me sad already. I am getting used to hearing their voices. I wonder what is going to be the last. Will they make Shibuya the cliffhanger?

I started to watch the series in German language too to see if Toto and Ron at least discarded the formal Sie after the live broadcast murder case, I was totally wrong. The two are still using formalities referring to each other.
I tried again today. The German subtitles stayed true with the official DE translation. But get this, the English subtitles did not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
German:
Toto: Hä? Sie haben ja Möbel!
Ron: Es sind allerdings noch nicht alle da. So kann ich auch mal Klienten bei mir empfangen. Und mein erster, denkwürdiger Klient ist Spitz!
This is an almost one-to-one translation from the manga.
The English subtitles didn’t follow the manga.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The anime with the English subtitles:
Toto: Huh? There's furniture in here!
Ron: I'm not done with the place yet. But this way, we can invite clients here, or anyone other than the two of us, right? And our inaugural first client... is Spitz!
Ron is very inclusive of Toto. The “I” has become we.
Interesting, no?

Synopsis of The Case of the Yadagami-sama Murders, Part 1
Ron decided to undertake the search for Spitz’s missing family member. In order to do it Ron set a condition of the trade-in, that is Spitz must obtain the file of the “bloody training incident” involving Ron's own mystery. Spitz, who agreed with the condition, took Ron and Toto with him and visited Yada Village in Yamanashi Prefecture, where his brother, a folklorist, disappeared…
We are on the penultimate episode. Personally, I would wish that a second cour would be a better option, but we still have the last episode running on Christmas Day. And they can still announce anything on that day. After all, it is Christmastime.

Curious add-ons for Episode 3 (Part 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To make it fair as it was Toto who paid for his groceries, Ron suggested that he and Toto should play rock, scissors and paper, which the latter declined as he was still on duty. It was clearly defined on the anime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ron felt threatened when Spitz tried to impress Toto with his “deduction” concerning the police detective’s shoes and profession. Pissed at Toto’s reaction, he walked closer to Spitz hurting Toto in return with his luggage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ron, who still couldn’t forget what happened, left the reception while Toto said his thanks, bumping Toto once again with his luggage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toto: Did you wash your hands?
Ron: Yeah.
Just this tiny additional dialogue gives a new context to their budding relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My head canon is that Toto was brought up by his grandparents, especially his grandmother, who taught him manners and spirituality (he goes to temples and says his prayer for the dead). Ron teases him saying he is a grandmother’s boy.
In these particular screen caps, Toto was scandalised with Ron’s behavior of disturbing the other visitors that compelled him to apologise profusely.

Languages. Again.
Can’t help but check the German subtitles. The manga contains the word “Kind —>> Viertältestes Kind der Moriartys” which technically carries a neutral article, das, so it is safe. But the anime version still identifies Winter as a male, “Viertgeborener der Familie Moriarty.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interesting how the translators perceive the narrative.
I have decided it is better to make her gender ambiguous.
Winter, you are an enigma, I love you.
Tumblr media
They better give you an eyeliner next time.
