Hi! Can you show recs of good (long!) podfics? so many links i try to find are broken but I love listening to them!

Hmmmmm, I definitely remember getting an ask like this before and answering it with a link to a podfic site that I later found out had a lot of broken links (sorry). I can't even find that post anymore (thanks tumblr).

So I did a little digging on ao3, and while I don't listen to podfic myself, these all look very promising! I only tested the first few download links because I didn't actually want to download all these, but I think the links should still work. Some of the streams might be broken now, but the downloads seem fine.

I didn't always include all parts of a series because some of the works seemed to focus on other band characters, so if you like a work, it might make sense to check out the original fic series and see if there's more you'd be interested in.

This story is a cliché rentboy fic wherein Gerard (the customer) falls for Frank (the service-provider) and can’t figure out how to go from paying-for-sex to ‘dating’ or if that’s even possible. Added to the mix are Gerard’s perpetually low self-esteem, Frank’s neuroses, and both boys’ epic communication-fails. Will these two ever manage to get out of their own way long enough to see that they’re meant for each other? With a little bit of help from a meddling younger brother, they just might.

She was half out of bed when Prior came through the door, like really through it, because it was still shut when he hit it. He came through it backward and it just went to splinters and honeycomb chunks of cardboard.

She saw him hit the wall, and then the floor, and then he wasn't moving anymore, and someone else was there in the doorway, backlit from the other room, and all she could see of the face were these two curves of reflected red light from that fake sunset.

Pulled her legs back into bed and sank back against the wall, her hand sliding down to . . .

"Don't move, bitch." There was something real scary about that voice, because it was too fucking cheerful , like throwing Prior through that door had been kind of a treat. "I mean really  don't move. . . ." And the woman was across the room in three strides, very close, so close that Mona felt the cold coming off the leather of the woman's jacket.

"Okay," Mona said, "okay . . ."

Then hands grabbed her, fast , and she was flat on her back, shoulders pressed down hard into the foam, and something -- the shockrod -- was right in front of her face.

"Where'd you get this little thing?"

"Oh," Mona said, like it was something she might've seen once but forgotten about, "it was in my boyfriend's jacket. I borrowed his jacket. . . ."

Mona's heart was pounding. There was something about those glasses. . .

"Did shithead know you had this little thing?"

"Who?"

"Prior," the woman said, and let go of her, turning. Then she was kicking him, kicking Prior over and over, hard. "No," she said, stopping as abruptly as she'd begun, "I don't think Prior knew."

Then Gerald was in the doorway, just like nothing had happened, except he was looking ruefully at the part of the door that was still on the frame, rubbing his thumb over an edge of splintered laminate. "Coffee, Molly?"

"Two coffees, Gerald," the woman said, examining the shockrod. "Mine's black."

i've actually had a bunch of people asking me how to get into the fate series "properly" bc there's just so many installments to it, so i'm going to post a reference post here ufufu

bear in mind, i have not read/played/watched: apocrypha, strange fake, extra, extra ccc, hollow ataraxia, or prototype.  i'm basing this information off people who have and just general knowledge of the fate/ series.  uvu

my recommendation is to start with either fate/zero (the vn or the anime) or fate/stay night (the vn.  forget the deen anime exists).  stay night is getting an ufotable remake, however, so if animes are more your thing than vns, you could always wait for that.

i started with stay night, but that's only because zero didn't exist yet when i was getting into the fate franchise.  tbh, i would probably say that you're best off starting with the zero anime -- and if you like it, maybe go for the zero vn (it does have storylines and scenes that were not included in the anime, so it's definitely not a boring read!!).  then, the monster of all monsters: stay night.

stay night was originally an ero game, so it has three routes representing which girl you could romance in each.  these routes are all very different and showcase different characters, so i would recommend playing all three.  in order, the routes are: fate (saber's route), unlimited blade works (rin's route, with a lot of archer/shirou development as well), and heaven's feel (sakura's route).  you can play through the ero version of the game, but nasu's writing when it comes to sex scenes i pretty terrible so my recommendation would be to play the realta nua versions (the non-sexual versions that were written up after).  realta nua is also regarded as the canon timelines for stay night.

once you get past stay night, it's really a free-for-all.  hollow ataraxia is the sort-of-but-not-really "epilogue" to stay night, though it hasn't been fully translated to english yet.  with the rest of the installments, however, it's largely an au bonanza.

apocrypha is one of the stay night "aus," taking place on a parallel timeline.  while i myself haven't read it, i have read about it and it seems to me a really interesting but really different take on the whole concept, which may appeal to some more than others.

prototype is, as its name suggests, the prototype of stay night -- there were a few anime episodes on it, but it's largely undeveloped since (as you may expect) no one wants to develop the rejected blueprint of stay night.  it does, however, have within it some very interesting characters, and is worth the short foray into its canon material.

extra and extra ccc are also alternate timelines of the fifth grail war (stay night) but with an entirely different protagonist.  shirou (the main character of stay night) does not appear at all in extra or extra ccc, and the overall theme of these two is lighter and more fun than the original stay night.  the servants have far more eccentric personalities, and i'd personally play through these two just to see the different, crazy servants.

strange fake is a quick, one-volume read by the author of baccano.  it takes place ten years after hollow ataraxia/stay night, and revolves around a false grail war (the sixth) taking place in the us, rather than japan.

the spin-off/joke series are: fate kaleid liner prisma illya, einzbern consultation room, and carnival phantasm.  einzbern consultation room pokes fun at zero while carnival phantasm does the same for stay night, though cp also includes tsukihime (which is in the type-moon franchise).  prisma illya is largely an au joke show about one of the main stay night characters (illya) becoming a magical girl.

My headcanon face for Cecil is this ticklish Lovecraftian entity with lots of symbols on his skin. When he takes a human form they are basically shifty tattoos that react according to his mood or they dance across his skin whenever there's music playing.

Also he has white hair because I'm a sucker for white hair.

8: pet peeves when it comes to role playing?

over-beautifying posts.  i like simple and clean, so when someone's template/layout/posts are too fancy, i tend to jump to the conclusion that the person is covering up a lack of substance.

also, people who write as though they have a thesaurus next to them.  again, simplicity is key: i don't mind looking up words here and there, but if i'm looking them up constantly and i see that the person isn't even using them in the best context, i'm going to roll my eyes and put that post at the bottom of my list.  i like writing that is real, light, and melodious, not heavy and bogged down with extra syllables wherever one can be squeezed.

9: who is your absolute favorite person to rp with?

there are a lot of these too waaaah uh again i'll go with a top-something list.

bev, rook, amee, and anna definitely.  i love how much thought each of them puts into their characters, to the point where reading their posts makes the thread feel as though it's come alive.  *o*  i'll push myself to stay awake to read their posts just so i can think of how to reply while i sleep and get all giddy about our threads in my dreams and -- yeah, i love these four a lot.

and while i've never rped with her, i've always been watching kate from afar and wanting to lure her into my clutches so that we may inflict massive pain on each other.  uvu
