I felt nostalgic and full of love for MGR community today, so... 2015-2023 MGR FAN ART BOOK This is a compilation of my artworks done over the years. Most of them appeared on my blog, but some haven't. This pdf contains 30 pages of art in chronological order: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13x7v1gGjAgE84C_ncDMyih1cS_IJAyla/view?usp=sharing Aside from a little retouching, I chose not to redraw older works and included them as is. This art book vividly illustrates how my themes and style have changed, so I feel almost disconnected from the starting pages.
Includes violence and Samdowner things, of course.

SamDown got his own post so now it’s time for some deets about Washington’s favorite drummer boy, Alexander Milliner!
He never knew his father; Milliner Sr. was an English goldsmith who came to Quebec as an artificer with James Wolfe’s army. He was assigned to special detail and, in September of 1759, he died of possible heatstroke after The Battle of the Plains of Abraham.
Almost six months to the day after Milliner Sr.’s death, in March of 1760, Alexander was born in Quebec. While he was a small child, his mother moved with him to New York. There, she met and married one Mr. Maloney, a wealthy mason.
Around 1776, Alexander was enlisted by his step-father. He was considered too young to serve in the ranks, and so was recruited as a drummer instead. He served in that capacity for four years in Washington’s Life Guard.
He became a favorite of Washington’s - according to Milliner, Washington would frequently come to him 'after the beating of reveille’ and ‘pat him on the head, and call him his boy’. He also states that on one cold day, he was personally offered a drink from Washington’s own flask. If Washington was fond of Alexander, Alexander certainly reciprocated in his recollections, describing Washington as, “ a good man, a beautiful man. He was always pleasant; never changed countenance, but wore the same in defeat and retreat as in victory.”
These sentiments extended to Mrs. Washington as well, calling her kind-hearted and motherly. Milliner had the following to say of Martha and George,
“ One day the General had been out some time. When he came in, his wife asked him where he had been. He answered, laughing, 'To look at my boys.' 'Well,' said she, 'I will go and see my children.' When she returned, the General inquired, 'What do you think of them?' 'I think,' answered she, 'that there are a good many.'  “
He also tells a story of being summoned by Washington and, after a parade and roll-call of the Life Guard, being instructed to play a tune on the drum, for which Washington paid him three dollars. Others paid him as well, and he ended up with fifteen dollars in total.
He used at least some of the money to obtain tea for his mother, who followed the army as a washerwoman in order to be near her son.
Speaking of Mrs. Milliner, Alexander described her as “English, high-learnt, understood  every language, having been a teacher”
In yet another George Washington anecdote, Milliner says,
"We were going. along one day, slow march, and came to where the boys were jerking stones. 'Halt' came the command. 'Now, boys,' said the General, 'I will show you how to jerk a stone.' He beat 'em all. He smiled, but didn't laugh out."
Alexander Milliner was present for the battles of White Plains, Brandywine, Saratoga, Monmouth, Yorktown, and others. During The Battle of Monmouth, he was shot in the thigh and nearly died of blood loss. By his description of the incident, he didn’t realize what had happened until an Officer called his attention to the wound.
He served the American Revolution for six years all in all, and then five or six and a half  years in the navy during The War of 1812, three of them aboard The Constitution. At one point, he was severely wounded and captured by the French, after being held prisoner in Guadalupe, where he was reportedly harshly treated.
Milliner was eventually married and remained so for 62 years, having nine children. Once retired from military life, he became a farmer. By 104 years old, he could still play his drum, and was described as being a master of the instrument. He could also sing quite well.
Other bits:
He was described as ‘quite small, more-so than his picture would indicate’
At one point a bullet passed through the head of his drum, a close call.
He said that Charles Lee had an enormous nose and even told a story, “One day a man met him and turned his nose away. Lee exclaimed, “What do you do that for, you damned rascal?” the man, who also had a large nose, replied, “I was afraid our noses would meet.” Lee laughed and gave him a dollar.”

Can you tell us more about your view of Sundowner and Sam's dynamic/relationship? I love your art 💕 you got me intrigued by Sundowner and Sam.
Oh what you got yourself into! Sorry in advance, it’s a lot. And genuinely thank you for asking <3 I have to rely on mythology to keep it comprehensible lol greeks already established all these dynamics. I use these two to experiment with various interactions and ideas. It’s lotta fun since their primary themes are polarized and never fail to combust. Sam is an embodiment of death, tradition, commune, reaping, earth, and cyclicity. Being detached from any of these concepts causes him reserved suffering, like a crack on the inside. His identity (quite masculine at that) is morbidly bound to Murasama, which I associate with chthonic feminine energy. Hence the muted vocal line once the player manages to disarm Sam during the fight as if his identity has been split. He’s basically Ares - all passion and alienation. And Sundowner is an embodiment of volatility, intuition, generosity, vitality. He’s a shock content, a hit of outrage and sensuality. The concepts of death and burden are foreign to him. His world is of commerce, ideas, and traveling. His identity had plenty of time to develop and gain balance, which is translated into weapon design. A unity of maturity and juvenility, humane and animalistic nature, feminine and masculine parts, much like a caduceus. So yeah, Hermes, a mediator between the worlds and patron of children. This pairing kinda has a similar function to SamuRaiden, except Sundowner playing the psychopomp part, not Sam. He’s highly provocative and Sam’s all reaction. He’s the one to water the dry roots with blood and innovation - and Sam’s the one who got his roots severed (his dominant hand, expectations, family ties, a chance to pass the heritage). Their relationship is a test site to let the energy flow, much like Hermes’s always been a liberator for Ares and his… inner child, guess what. They practice violence, debate, sex, and anything in between, but it’s certainly not a symbiotic romantic couple. To Sam, there’s a lot of exploration on subjects of his own identity, dignity, boundaries. Where it hurts the most, how to let go, how to enjoy and go past the threshold. The end goal is probably to learn how to give. That’s why Sam was able to pass Murasama to Raiden, as well as Sundowner passed Raiden to Sam. I mean, MG in general has a lot to do with “passing”. Wouldn’t call it a friendship (even with benefits) cause these two have quite different concepts of what friendship means. To Sam, it’s more about the brotherhood, and he currently has none. To Sundowner it’s more about being business partners, and you can’t really do business with Sam. But they do respect each other as hinted, despite all the banter. Sam wouldn’t even bother to banter with someone he’s not invested in tbh. And Death is pretty into Vitality. Hope it sums it up well, I'm happy to chat about them any time if you wish to!

fragmented stuff, the second one being a redraw of an older sketch posted in 2018. a good example of my drawings getting heavier in shapes and textures, to the point it burdens me at times

comfort playlists I've been refining for a while. there's so much more I could toss into these but I decided to keep it concentrated. to me, every track left resonates with the character strongly or addresses certain hc's on top of that. I've had fun arranging so that transitions would rub my ears the right way, as well as paint some kind of character development.

lots of blues lots of metal be warned. i just love sharing music honestly
mistral's playlist ain't finished yet and it's so much trickier cause I know exactly what I wanna hear. I just don't listen to that kind of music enough to build a meaningful connection. though there'll be patti smith and depeche mode for sure.

cover art for mgr fiction series i haven’t finished yet. but i love to kinda fantasize about how nice it would look altogether, text and art and a mini playlist. chapters mostly deal with deprivation, self-deceit and a chunk of power dynamics so it felt right to convert these concepts into straightforward visuals. strong scale difference, raw outlines opposed to soft viscera keeping something fatal and censored. a CD framing cause i imagine all the chapters complementing each other like tracks on a music album. also cause i’ve been digging ministry and nick cave and rammstein a bit too much.
this lil project’s quite therapeutic and resonates with my personal turmoil, as well as grants me a chance to explore mentioned themes. i adore the possibilities here. besides it’s the first time i fully considered the power dynamics thing after avoiding it for so long. just didn’t have enough brain bits to make it work.
yeah, it’s sam\sundowner crumbs again
jesus has failed to prevent me from ranting about them here since i’m sure a few people will see this and nod in appreciation to this disaster of a pair
