I FIGURED OUT HOW NOT TO BREAK REBORN'S TIMELINES (MUCH)
TLDR: in my version of events, my self-insert (Adriana) now appears in all three timelines, not just the last two. The first is used for my selfship with Elena, and is reset as normal with nothing bad happening to Adriana; the second is used for my selfship with Luna, and is reset with an extra sacrifice needed due to Adriana’s fate there; the third is also used for my selfship with Luna, and ends in success thanks to the player being an additional presence. Adriana has a different outfit or appearance in each timeline, to help with differentiating them all.
Further explanation can be found under the readmore, if you'd like to know more! ..There will be some spoilers mentioned for the game, but I hope that the things I talk about are helpful for assisting your understanding if you aren’t as familiar with Reborn itself. I'm also more than happy to answer questions if anyone has any!! ^-^
The first timeline (pre-gameplay)
We don't know as much about the first timeline compared to the other two, and it also doesn't get to the same point that the other two do, but it's the one where everything technically kicks off from, so it's still important. In this timeline, Adriana is a Pokémon Trainer of some sort who travels to visit the Reborn region from her home in Kalos, and eventually ends up getting into a relationship with Elena of the Elite Four after bonding over a shared fondness for Ghost-types, gaining a greater appreciation for them in the process. (I have yet to figure out how Corey factors into this; for now, I am saying Elena has two hands.) More details will hopefully come with time.
The first timeline is eventually reset after the continued distortions and earthquakes afflicting Reborn, caused by Solaris wielding the power of Giratina, force Zina to have to fix things, sealing Giratina away in Byxbysion in the process and sacrificing her existence to facilitate the change and reset. Adriana was not a particularly prevalent character for many of the actual ongoing events here.. but this ends up changing after the timeline starts over again.
Anything I make within this timeline - so, anything to do with my selfship with Elena - can be identified by Adriana having a different outfit, and possibly also hairstyle. My first pass for this outfit, made within Pokémon Y, is this:
Tumblr media
The second timeline (Episode 18)
This is the timeline seen by Miss Fortune, as well as being the one that has more direct relevance to in-game events, particularly in the postgame. Here, Adriana once again comes to Reborn, but at a slightly different time in her life - specifically, she decides to pick the region’s league as her first league challenge after finding some slightly misleading (in that it’s ten years out of date) marketing for it. From the moment she arrives rather explosively at Grandview Station, her journey goes completely differently to how she was expecting it to, as she ends up entangled in trying to stop Team Meteor while also collecting Gym Badges, eventually succeeding in obtaining all 18 (even if she did have to get two Poison- and Fighting-type ones due to.. extraneous circumstances). She ends up in a romantic relationship with Luna along the way as well, and even successfully rescues her from the Void.
This timeline follows the game’s events as they existed in Episode 18, with two key exceptions - Euphie still exists as Euphie, and Fern either does not join or eventually breaks away from Team Meteor. This is to fit what Miss Fortune sees. It also extends past the gym battle against Hardy, despite the game only being finished up to that point when this episode was the most recently-released one.
In this timeline, Adriana fully takes on the player character’s position as the protagonist, and experiences everything in the story as it existed in E18. The story then continues until she reaches the final battle with Lin, who drags her into the New World and removes its oxygen; Anna summons everyone’s hopes to make a wish to help her, but it turns out to not be strong enough, and she ends up unable to be saved, leaving Anna and others distraught. Fern then steps up to be the hero, working alongside Cal, Euphie, Arclight, and others to try and counter Lin and the havoc she is playing in the region - but he also doesn’t succeed. As a result, Anna ends up following in her mother’s footsteps by resetting the timeline again to fix the problems caused by Lin, with Nostra (her Jirachi) as the sacrifice; however, a second sacrifice is also deemed to be required to bring Adriana back, and this ends up being Euphie’s body, allowing Shade to exist as he is seen in-game in the next timeline.
Anything to do with my selfship with Luna that is set in the second timeline can be identified in two ways. The first is that Adriana uses a wide variety of Pokémon here, with no clear type specialty; examples include Delphox, Roserade, Ampharos, Silvally, Honchkrow, and Aegislash. The second is that Adri’s freckles are an ordinary dark brown colour; while she does become void-kissed in this timeline, I don’t know if I will say that this has any physical consequences on her here.
Tumblr media
The third/current timeline (Episode 19)
This is the timeline that you actually are in when you play the game itself, so it arguably has the most prevalence. Here, Adriana’s first journey as a Pokémon Trainer is around her home region of Kalos, before she then decides to go and challenge the Reborn League. On the train there, she is sat next to another person (the player character), and is therefore able to be saved alongside them by Amethyst at the beginning. From there, Adriana travels across the Reborn region in a way that largely mirrors the path of the player; she appears many times throughout the story and experiences many of the same events that they do, so would arguably be counted as their rival if not for how she doesn’t actually push the dynamic in that direction. She once again ends up in a relationship with Luna, whom she is able to spend more time with here due to not having to experience every single story event, and her presence is indeed able to help make Anna’s wish succeed and save the player from suffering the same fate that she did. (I am only familiar with the Anna Route of postgame, so I tend to treat that as the default when Adri is present.)
Before the postgame begins, Adriana becomes the second person to make it through Charous Hall after the player, so she becomes their reserve (or, Shadow) Champion, having not been able to actually battle them for their title because she achieved this while they were temporarily missing. In the postgame itself, she does a small number of the in-game legendary quests, and eventually fully realises her status as the previous timeline’s hero when reunited with the original Giratina. This property turns out to be key to letting the player reach the grand finale.
My portrayals of Adriana, and/or my selfship with Luna, that are set within this timeline can be identified in two ways. The first is that Adri uses almost entirely Ghost-type Pokémon here; the only exceptions are her Shiny Silvally, her Gothitelle (whom she later gifts to Luna), and possibly some of the legendaries and mythicals she catches in the postgame (like Cresselia and Darkrai). The second way to identify third timeline events is that her freckles are white from the beginning, which was a physical consequence of having to bring her back to life and mess with the timeline to make sure she made it back (since.. Nostra ended up choosing another person, the player, to be the protagonist for this timeline - but it was vital that Adriana also came to Reborn as well as them, despite not having their role this time, because otherwise there might not be enough people to power Anna’s wish again if she needed to make it one more time. However, because Adriana is not from Reborn, it wasn’t guaranteed that she would return there after the timeline got reset. So, more meddling than usual had to happen to bring her back, mostly carried out by Shade, but this ended up having effects on Adri herself - this is how I bring in the whole anamnesis aspect). These consequences also get worse after she becomes void-kissed again, as a white star-like pattern forms all across her face and hair, and culminate in the full visibility of a pair of spectral wings on Adriana’s back, resembling the wings of a Reborn-Shiny Giratina.
Tumblr media
Bonus: Another Time
This is the name given to the alternate/hypothetical future that you visit during the postgame while doing the Celebi quest, as the player ends up travelling ten years into the future with Celebi during this quest before returning to the present day. Due to the player disappearing from the present in this version of events, Adriana once again fills the role of Champion in their absence, just as she did before the postgame started. However, she is eventually defeated for the first time by Shelly, some time after the cast are able to figure out that the player travelled through time. She continues to hold her role as Shadow Champion when Shelly first becomes the Champion, but eventually steps down to allow her to select a new reserve. By the time of the player's return, ten years later, Adriana has taken over Shade's role as the Ghost-type Gym Leader of the Reborn League; she takes her battles in Iolia Valley, just as Luna did.
Since Another Time is explored after a ten-year timeskip, Adriana's appearance will definitely have changed in it like how everyone else's does, but I haven't quite decided how yet. However, since it is an alternate version of events within the third timeline, her physical appearance will stay the same as it does there (white freckles, etc.)
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!! Please don’t hesitate to ask me if you have any questions, no matter how big or small!

Part of me was considering redesigning Adriana (my Pokémon Reborn self-insert)’s outfit fairly recently, but I wasn’t really sure where I wanted to go with the redesign. Then today’s Pokémon Presents happened, and - since Adri is supposed to have started her journey in Kalos - suffice it to say I was very excited, and also inspired to change it once again! But, I’m still at a bit of a crossroads about whether or not I actually want to go through with doing it since I don’t have any super concrete ideas, so.. maybe we shall see?

for ur writing ask game, talk abt any of ur reborn fics :]
Clara. My treasured friend. I am going to be here for months. This is one of the best asks I've ever received and I mean that
(source: this post by void-kissed - hey, that’s me!)
Name a piece of writing that I’ve posted, and I’ll give you some thoughts and analysis of it! - I should probably try and limit this to one bullet point per piece, because I'd like to talk about multiple, but.. who knows what will happen, haha
This will probably get VERY long, but oh well! You asked for this! And I am only too happy to provide what you have asked for!!!!
Alright, here we go!!
Okay, so, I believe the first piece of writing I did for Reborn was To Stand Before The Void, back for Sapphic September two years ago. This is the scene where Luna and Adriana find each other within the Void itself, and.. while it covers some pretty serious thoughts of Luna's that I'll admit I wasn't really sure how best to explain in my writing, I like to think it does still hold up.
One thing I do want to point out is that the events shown in this piece are the reason why this selfship's name is "void-kissed"! As a result of being in the Void as they were here, both Luna and Adriana end up with some.. lasting consequences, shall we say. Luna becomes even more one with the shadows than she already was, almost disappearing into any nearby darkness if you aren't looking at her directly, while the white freckles Adriana had across her face spread into star-like marks found all over her hair and body - she also becomes able to see some of the things that Anna can about people, such as Cain's pitch-black eyes and Taka's broken wing. (I'm not sure whether to say she's aware of her wings by this point though - maybe she can start to feel them, but can't see them/figure out which wings they are until the Giratina quest?)
The stars Luna is walking on are "lifeless" and not shining very brightly at the start because of her intentions to escape into the darkness of the Void, as well as to show that the Void is not really a very good place. However, they are still brighter than the ones Cain was running on because of Luna's own affinity with the Void, as shown by how she is later able to manipulate the New World somewhat thanks to the power of her Emerald Brooch.
I referenced Anna a lot in this writing despite never calling her Anna - for example, she is of course both "little Fantasia" and "the little girl with the Jirachi doll" that is the only one not unsettled by Shade's presence at the end. I also used the quote that Anna is shown with on the wiki page for Reborn about falling stars wishing on each other, because I thought it led nicely into saying that "Right now, Luna's wish was to fall". Anna also supports Adriana in not wanting Luna to die, in the form of the "wishes of the starlight" that are present when she makes her decision.
In the game itself, Luna is very associated with Alice in Wonderland - all of her Pokémon are nicknamed after characters from Wonderland, and Luna's adopted parents even represent both the Mad Hatter (Radomus) and the Looking Glass (Serra) respectively. But if Luna herself is Alice, and is a girl who wishes to live in a land of fairytale, then that makes Adriana Wonderland, the place (or, rather, person) she feels truly at home with. This is the conclusion Luna comes to in the Void, and why her story continues even after the point where she thought she was going to end it.
Luna mistaking Cain for Adri mainly just came out of the fact that both have a fair bit of purple in their outfits, but even then they don't really look all that similar (Cain's design is very bright and colourful, whereas Adriana's is a lot more subdued). So it was mostly just to try and pad things out and show that Cain also gets out safely here (which I could retcon now that I know what the full game does, but oh well).
The first line that Shade says at the end - "Abyss is unrelenting.." - is what he says to the player before battling them if they lost to him in his Gym, while the other lines are ones I made up and tried to make fit how he normally talks. He's the one that successfully pulled Adriana and Luna out of the Void, and he's basically telling them to both keep going and make it to the end of the game by experiencing the final episode/chapter together. But in less fourth-wall-breaking terms than that.
Overall: you can definitely tell I wrote this back when Episode 18 was still the newest update to the game. I think that what I changed in it (i.e. Luna and Cain surviving the Void) could still be true to my version of events, since Cain could still become Umbral during or right before the Diancie quest after getting lost in the New World beforehand maybe? I forget when it is that you see him stuck in there, but I know it's quite early, and maybe his having also been void-kissed contributed to higher susceptibility to the Umbral state. And considering Luna comes back to Reborn during the literal first postgame quest of them all, I don't think much is negatively affected by having her just.. have survived the whole time.
Timeline-wise, I think this one can definitely apply to both third and second. You can just explain it as Shade having dragged the player out of the Void before then going back in for Luna and Adri in the third timeline.
Oh dear, that was perhaps a lot for just one piece. Oh well!
The other piece of writing that I've done for my selfship with Luna was Return on Crow's Wings, which describes Luna and Adriana finally being able to reunite after Adri got stuck in the Carnelia region, since Agate City was not safe to travel back through. For context for those who haven't played the game, the last time the two had met was the Gym battle that Adriana had with Luna, where she won her ninth Gym Badge, and they meet again just after Adriana gets her thirteenth Gym Badge. It's been long enough for Reborn City to become very revitalised as well.
This writing is labelled as only being applicable to second timeline, but the only reason for that is because of Adri flying on the back of Kelaino, her Honchkrow; I hadn't finalised her mono-Ghost-type team yet when I wrote this, so any depiction of her with Pokémon that aren't Ghost-types during the maingame story (except Sidera and Argent) refers to second timeline. However, the same events do still happen the same way in the current/third timeline; it's just that Adriana flies back with the help of Drifter, her Drifblim, instead. I rendered that here, incidentally.
The way the end of the battle is described, with Argent knocking out Noivern and so on, was actually how it went when I played through the game after Episode 19 came out! I remember writing down what happened on each turn of the battle specifically for the purposes of this writing piece.
I actually wrote the last lines of this piece first, because I had used them as a caption for a render of the ending that I'm fairly sure I ended up making before actually finishing the writing. If I hadn't have written those lines, I would probably have let the piece continue to show Luna's reaction outright, and probably ended it on Adriana and Luna finally being able to embrace again after so long ^-^
Technically all you said was Reborn fics, so I can mention Tale of a Corybantic Blade here! It's the piece of writing that's all about Corybantia, Adriana's Honedge, going from when she first finds it in the Mirage Tower to when it evolves to stop Titania stabbing Taka. Again, this is a second-timeline-only piece, because Adri doesn't travel through Tourmaline with Taka in the third timeline.
When I wrote this piece, I had two questions in mind: how many references could I put into one piece of writing, and could I write a piece about Pokémon without making it clear that it's about Pokémon? I like to think that the answer to both of those questions was "yes".
I actually have written an entire analysis document myself about all the references I put in, which you can find here! So.. I probably shouldn't elaborate any more here. I invite you to go and read the document if you want the full analysis of that piece, hehe~
I do have one more piece of Reborn writing, technically, but it's very very short, so I don't know how much I'd say it counts as an outright fic. It's this scene, which I wrote out about the concept of Saphira having an opportunity to go and deal with Sigmund like she so desperately felt she needed to, during the Labradorra section, because Adriana had to heal up her Pokémon before battling him and the PULSE-Mr. Mime.
This piece didn't have a ton of opportunity for me to do anything particularly fun, but I did enjoy portraying Saphira as so furious that "a dragon's fullest might could not have held the Gym Leader back". I also managed to slip in both her and Adriana's Trainer titles as part of this, so that was fun.
Rereading it, I have just noticed one fun thing that I did - namely, describing Adriana coming back into the control centre "just as she had done both a few minutes and one clock ago". This is referencing how Noel refers to the previous timelines as being "clocks ago", rather than, say, "days ago", which I remembered thinking was neat! So, in turn, this line is referring to this piece being ostensibly set in third timeline, as Adriana has already gone through the game's events once before in second timeline.
In general, I also just thought the last three sentences built up to a very vivid image. Sigmund deserved what he got.
Okay!! There we go!! Well over one and a half thousand words of my rambles for you, friend!! Thank you so so much once again for this opportunity, and goodnight!

Luna: "You came back!"
Here is my render for the third day of September! As was the case last year, it's depicting the moment when my self-insert Adriana finally reunited with Luna, after the several months she spent unable to reach her while stuck up in Carnelia. The background is supposed to be Iolia Valley, the area where Luna's Gym battle takes place! When I originally rendered (and later wrote out) this scene, Adri flew down to Luna on the back of her Honchkrow, Kelaino. However, she doesn't have one of those in this timeline of events anymore, so instead she's using her Drifblim, Drifter, as a hot-air balloon. We can pretend the basket's a held item.

PULSE-09
A very small scene (334 words) that I wrote last year after talking to a friend of mine who also likes Reborn a lot. I remember us discussing the idea of Saphira getting to have proper revenge against Sigmund rather than leaving his fate to the PULSE and the player, so.. have this! Takes place during the Labradorra City events.
This writing features my own player character (and self-insert), Adriana - I haven't really talked about her here much, but I'm happy to answer questions on her if anyone here would like to know more!
She had stumbled out of the dreary control centre, footsteps tapping against the emerald glass as she hurried back towards the Pokémon Centre. Her previous encounters had taught her only too well that she could not afford to go into the upcoming confrontation unprepared, not if the PULSE was to be properly defeated.
The other thing she was unprepared for was for Saphira to be awake again.
Even through her dazedness and her injuries from Lin, rage and energy coursed through her body with feral ferocity. She charged forwards, nearly striking the soul-touched lady down herself, and a dragon’s fullest might could not have held the Gym Leader back.
“Adriana.” Her voice lacked all emotion. “Where is Sigmund.”
Cal came running up after her, trying hurriedly to explain. “She's been asking the same thing ever since she woke up. I told her you went after him-”
Adriana’s own voice was similarly monotone, but it had more of a dissociated absence to its sound than the keeper's stone-coldness. “I didn’t see him outright, I needed to come back to heal-”
“Did you find him or did you not?” Saphira said, interrupting. “Tell me where he is. Now.”
Not turning her head, or opening her mouth, Adri pointed back to the building, and the woman stormed through.
She didn’t say anything else as she dazedly continued into the Pokémon Centre, the man behind the counter still as begrudging as ever as he healed her team back to full health. She didn’t say anything else as she retraced her steps and opened the door to the control centre again, just as she had done both a few minutes and one clock ago.
This time, though, she didn’t have to go most of the way into the building to smell his blood.

hii ari !! abt the second timeline where adriana was the protagonist .. i remember ur carrd saying that she was in a relationship w luna in that timeline too — would u imagine it being different in any way , compared to the third timeline ? would there be a case where one of them may remember parts of their relationship from the second, or have a 'gut feeling' / 'intuition' that was rly memories from the timeline before ? i hope this all makes sense LOL
Oh!!! This absolutely does make sense; thank you so much for such an intriguing question!
Hmm.. I think that it would be at least a little bit different, by virtue of the fact that in the second timeline, Adriana fully took the role of the player as seen in-game, with no-one else surviving Grandview Station. So, as a result, while I do think that she and Luna would fall in love in the same way - Luna’s feelings appearing quite suddenly after Adri saves Gardevoir and later herself from the sanctum, which was midway through Adri’s own attraction rising slowly over time since meeting her - I also think that Adriana wouldn’t have been able to spend quite as much time with Luna as she had wanted, because she had more responsibilities as the spearhead of the movement to take down Team Meteor. As a result, it’s plausible to say that while we were definitely still close, it was not to as much of an extent (or at least had not developed to that extent yet).
Conversely, in the third/current timeline, Adri doesn’t have to be there for every single event, because there is now someone else travelling the region (in the form of the player), whom she is now mirroring by continuing to collect badges but doesn’t have to constantly be glued to. So, for example, she can spend more time with Luna after returning to Reborn City by not having to go through the Devon Corp raid. By the time the player has done that + defeated Adrienn + explored potentially the entirety of Tourmaline Desert (which is massive) + gone all the way through Titania’s gym, all that Adriana has to do in the same timeframe is just defeat Adrienn, fly from Beryl Ward to the top of Mirage Tower (to pick up Corybantia), then continue north to Never After - because she catches up with the player right before they battle Titania, at least if they’re on Reshiram Route. This (and other examples throughout the story, which I’ll admit I haven’t fully come up with yet) gives her much more downtime compared to the player.
What I haven’t considered as much as I could have is the last part of what you were saying, about feelings and memories of the previous timeline poking through. And I think that is a VERY fun concept to play with - the game sort of touches on it right at the end, but not really to much of an extent. In fact, something that I was considering was saying that Adriana’s experience - so, the second timeline - was closer to Episode 18 than it was to Episode 19, because the game itself was still only on Episode 18 when I myself first played it. This allows for some fun moments in terms of things like Adriana being surprised to hear the name Borealis so early, or being apprehensive to enter Agate until Cain and the player arrive, or suddenly feeling a lot less sure of things after defeating Hardy (because E18 only went up to his Gym battle even though Adri herself did actually get all the way to the end of maingame), or - to bring it back to an F/O-focused perspective - being even more shocked than everyone else that Elias tries to shave off Luna’s hair.
I think that Adriana would be the only one to really have these moments of.. I suppose you could call them anamnesis, but she isn’t necessarily remembering the previous timeline, just getting vague intuitions of things. This is because she’s the only one to have more explicitly been brought back in from the previous timeline - and brought back from her fate in that timeline - because of Anna’s feelings of guilt causing her to intervene more. If she hadn’t intervened beyond the point of a simple reset, it wouldn’t have been guaranteed that Adri still travelled out to Reborn (because she wasn’t the chosen hero for this timeline), defeating the main point of bringing her back - which was to make sure enough people would be present to power Anna’s wish if the new chosen hero, the player, had to be saved like that as she was. I do think there is potential for her to eventually become more anamnestic, certainly moreso than Fern, but that may not actually occur until.. maybe the Giratina quest. Which is late into postgame.
..I think it’s safe to say that I could ramble on about this for ages considering how much I’ve already written here in one go. So, thank you very much for such a question, friend - I am very grateful to have been asked it and it’s given me a LOT to think about!!

To give some more specific examples of what I was talking about in the last post I made, for my own selfshipping experience:
I haven’t exactly created much story for this selfship yet, but I want to make an HMDS Cute save file on my phone where I play as my self-insert Emily and marry Skye, so.. whatever the in-game timings of the heart events will be is going to be the canon time those events take place in the story!
Similarly, I think I lost all my Skyrim stuff when I rebooted my laptop, but I want to create a playthrough to go through with Serana, and the details of my selfship with her can be taken from that actual playthrough.
In the second timeline of Reborn, Adriana wins her Gym battle against Ciel with only her Silvally and Roserade left standing, and then evolves her Murkrow into Honchkrow to allow her to fly back to Iolia Valley to see Luna. This is because, when I first got to this point in my own playthrough, I wrote down how each turn of the battle went to be able to write about it most accurately!
In the story of my selfship with Perun, her Core Crystal is found by Mòrag in the Leftherian Archipelago because this is where and by whom Perun was first awakened in the first save file I played that had her in it. (I also have a record of finding KOS-MOS in the exact same location twice in a row!)
My Kingdom Hearts self-insert, Aria, was assumed to be 15 when she was found by Livian in Daybreak Town, 16 when she joined the Sapphires after an incident in her previous party, and 18 when Daybreak Town fell. This is because I was 15 when I met my old best friend (whose self-insert was Livian) through KHUX, 16 when we switched parties and joined the in-game Sapphires together, and 18 when the final story quest released and the servers shut down. I always envision my self-inserts to be the same age as me (because they are all me), so in Aria’s case she “catches back up to me” after being in the realm of darkness since time doesn’t pass properly in there and I can use that as my reasoning.
This one is angsty, but: in my save file of Dragon Quest IX where I played as Ardea and Pavo was in my party, Ardea dealt the final blow to the final boss, but our other two party members (Avalon and Iris) had been wiped out. In canon, you eat the final fygg to become mortal and then the bonus one from the postgame to let yourself see Stella again, but in my version of events, Ardea eats the final fygg to free herself from Celestrian laws, then the bonus one is eaten to bring Iris and Avalon back because they died during the final boss fight.
Stuff like this can really be so fun to incorporate ^-^

hi ari i do have a question - how do u imagine the giratina wings would work .. like would they be solid .. trying to imagine lunadri cuddling with the wings in the way
Hello friend!!! Thank you very much for this question ^-^ (I apologise for how long my answer ended up becoming ;w;)
To answer your questions/comments succinctly:
The wings work a bit weirdly because they're to do with the original Giratina, which I'm saying was Reborn-Shiny because so is the Arceus (I think). ..Don't ask me how she got tied up with it in the first place.
They are more spectral than properly solid, but you can still feel them (putting your hand through them will make it feel numb though, and it also feels weird to Adriana, so perhaps don't do that). They look more solid when she's in a New World.
We can work around them! It basically just means Luna can't hug Adriana from behind without needing to take them into account, but.. everything else is theoretically on the table. So, I like to think that works out ^-^
Okay, now for my actual initial very long-winded response to this.
Hmm.. I will admit that I hadn’t considered this. I think it would make sense if Adriana’s wings were at least somewhat non-solid, in that, like.. most things can pass through them, but with some resistance, to the point that you can probably push something through them quite easily, but if you just sort of threw something at them then it would probably just lose too much momentum and fall. Adriana will feel it if something goes into or through her wings, though (at least after they become fully apparent, which happens after the Giratina quest in postgame. Specifically:
Only Anna is able to see Adriana's wings to begin with, similarly to the other traits she perceives others as having (like Taka's own wings or Cain's pitch-black eyes), and Adriana cannot see or sense them whatsoever. However, Anna never properly specifies what they actually look like, just insists that she has them.
After becoming void-kissed (so, after the Glass Workstation), Adri starts very vaguely being able to sense her wings occasionally, and they also start sometimes appearing in glimpses in her shadow. Other than that, no-one else can see or sense them, though Luna definitely does her best to accommodate them from here on out, regardless. It still isn't clear what type of wings they are. (Note that it's after becoming void-kissed that Adriana starts being able to perceive others as Anna does, so this means that this occurs with the exception of herself.)
Whenever she is confronting Umbral Trainers or Anomalies, Adriana becomes more aware of the presence of her wings, but is generally too caught up with what is going on in the moment to properly dwell on it like she wants to - and most New World areas are so shadowy that she can't really tell if they're constantly there in her shadow or not.
The moment her wings finally become visible and tangible to everyone is the same moment in which Anna starts mistaking her for a doll of Lin's - after she catches the original, Reborn-Shiny, Giratina that Zina sealed beneath Byxbysion. A comparison of this false perception versus the new truth is given below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From this point onwards (which.. admittedly isn't that much more of the story, but still), Adriana's wings are spectral in the normal world, but fully-formed and solid whenever she's in a New World space. This is going to be my explanation for why they appeared solid during those old grand finale renders I made ages ago, but fade out on her other sprites and renders.)
It’s probably quite a strange sensation, both to Adriana and to someone else if they stuck their hand through them; I quite like the idea of anything that goes into or through the wings feeling very numb, rather than necessarily hurting or anything. They feel more solid, and the sensation is more intense, as you move closer to the part of her back where they look like they emanate from. I like to think the wings are solid enough (to Adriana at least) that she tries to take them into account when moving around, but also intangible enough that nothing can really affect them, necessarily - so, like, you couldn't grab them and use them to pull her towards you or anything, and she would also be able to put her back against a wall without too much issue (it might just feel odd to her). They also don't interfere with her clothing, thankfully. Such are the conveniences of spectral energy.
So, with all that said.. I do think that Adri’s wings would need to be taken into account to at least some extent when cuddling with Luna. However, it is not as much of a big consideration as it could be, simply because the two of us are already used to considering things when we cuddle, like making sure we don’t scrunch up our skirts for example. Adriana can also curl her wings fairly freely after they become fully apparent, so that helps, and they aren't that big to begin with (smaller than the ones Anna sees Taka as having, certainly), so that also helps. For example, I like to think that she would be able to lift them both so that Luna is underneath them, if we were both on our sides ^-^
Sorry for going on such a tangent there, oops ;w; I hope that this is still alright as an answer for you, friend! Thank you so much again for sending this in, it really means a lot~
#I think it could alternatively be interesting if the wings were only present when adriana’s pokémon are present or something#like how some pokémon (marshadow/xerneas/etc.) have in-battle and out-of-battle formes that are cosmetically different#as that would be a decent explanation for why they aren't on her overworld sprites but are on her VS and trainer sprites =P#plus I think it would be fun to sort of.. see her out in town somewhere and not think she seems like too overpowered of a trainer#and then you make it through charous hall. and the champion's busy. so you get to face the shadow champion. don't worry it still counts#and all of a sudden as the battle begins she gains a presence you would expect from a powerful champion but had yet to sense from *her*-#and you suddenly spot these spectral *legendary* wings behind her. which.. were always there? surely? yet only *now* do you *see* them#that sort of vibe perhaps~ where it's not really clear whether or not they *are* there all the time or not#anyway sorry that was a tangent#heart of the void#selfshipping#love: dark dreamer (luna)#..vaguely#selfship: void‑kissed (luna/adriana)#and most prominently (because I *keep finding things to say about her apparently*)#self‑insert: soul‑touched (adriana)#of a city reborn (pokémon reborn)#out of the inbox#selfship asks#clara tag!#info posts#i tried to work on this about four separate times today#but because i had such bad signal it just kept deleting the progress i made#so.. now that i'm back home it can hopefully sort itself out

So that I don’t forget this - things I need to figure out for Adriana:
Which parts of the story is she present or absent for? Her journey mirrors that of the player (because she’s already done it once before), but sometimes there’s no way for her to be in a certain spot or it makes more sense to be doing somewhere else at a given point in time. I have very few of these “deviations” established for maingame (e.g. she doesn’t do the Devon Corp raid, she’s with Luna for the Glass Workstation), and even the postgame ones I can think of are just set in terms of either people who are in the quest (Cresselia, Darkrai, Dialga and Palkia, maybe Necrozma) or legendaries I know she acquires and uses on her team (Marshadow and Giratina), so.. there’s a lot I can do here.
How does she interact with Ace? I bring this up for the sole reason that Ace was a completely new addition to Episode 19, and now that I’m leaning more into the anamnesis aspects with Adri’s status as the previous timeline’s player/protagonist (and her own experience having been Episode 18-except-she-also-got-to-the-Champion instead of 19), there is potential for something fun here. Saying that, though, the game itself doesn’t actually make a big deal of their newness as far as I know (compared to, say.. is it Aizen? in Rejuvenation), so I’m not 100% sure..
What would her interview with Gossip Gardevoir and profile from DJ Arclight be about? ..It would make sense for her interview to be playing directly after the player returns and the postgame begins, because it would be for her as the Shadow Champion, but Gardevoir isn’t there at that point in time. So maybe I can put an Arclight profile there, and then say the interview would be at another time - maybe even after the Giratina quest, but would she really talk about what happened there in such a setting??
I feel like there was something else. Probably to do with Luna. Hmm.
WAIT NO IT WAS TIMELINE NONSENSE the more I proceed with the concept of Adri being second the more I feel like that doesn’t work because of what Ame said. “Giratina broke things, so Zina fixed it. Then Lin broke things, so Anna fixed it.” - but we know Fern gets to the grand finale, so??? Something definitely needs to break but I don’t know what
Many things ^-^

HII 3 & 10 for whichever one ud like to answer for the most right now, but id also love to hear either question answered for adriana :]
Hello!!! Thank you so much for these questions, friend - I am always very happy to talk about Adriana, so I would be happy to answer them for her~
(question source: "ask game: self-insert lore" by celestialship)
3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self-insert? - I like to think that Adriana is quite well-liked! Her role in helping the player face Team Meteor, as well as her ability as a Trainer in managing to acquire all eighteen gym badges of the Reborn League (eventually also taking the role of Shadow Champion, which arguably makes her the second-strongest Trainer in the region!), do probably endear her to the people who know about her, even if she doesn’t know them directly herself. I would argue that she probably only gets actively close to the entire main cast once the postgame begins, because of working more closely alongside them all for Anomaly hunting - and also because I’m still not 100% sure which events she’s personally present for. I really need to work that out. But, I do think she’s the type of person who’s difficult to dislike, except to the type of person who thinks Ghost-type specialists are creepy and weird by default.
10. how do the other characters feel about your self-insert and F/O’s relationship? - Again, I like to think that people are in favour of it ^-^ it’s very clear to those who know us how much we care about each other, and have done for a while (Charlotte and I think also Shelly and the twins watching Adri read Luna’s letter in Calcenon springs to mind). Additionally, while I don’t doubt that some people think Luna is a bit weird, she manages to occupy a good niche where most people who know her don’t know she grew up in Team Meteor, and those who do know that are the people she grew up with (for example, Taka and later Ace), so they are already close with her. So, again, nobody really has much of any reason to not support it, right?
(I actually feel like fewer people in the general public would know much about the relationship than you might expect, simply because neither Luna nor Adriana are particularly.. exuberant? in terms of personality. So, those who have spent a lot of time around either one of us will be well aware of how much we love each other, and.. actually, I can imagine Adriana bringing up Luna if Gossip Gardevoir ever does an interview with her - but at the same time we’re both very private people, so not many events or details would be very well-known in a widespread sense.)
I hope that these answers were alright, friend! Writing them out has given me a lot of things to think about, so that’s fun. Thank you very much again for the opportunity~

Hello, Ms. Luna! I hope you and Adriana have been well!
What's your favorite place to visit with Adriana? Do you have any special memories associated with it that you'd be willing to share?
Luna: “Hello, there! Thank you so very kindly for this message! Indeed, I sincerely hope that you have also been in high spirits, too. I would be happy to answer your inquiries to the best of my ability.
The many regions encompassed by our League feature all manner of wonderful locations, though my love has seen far more of them than I upon her long and storied journeys. However, I feel it would be somewhat remiss of me not to give this honour to Iolia Valley. It is the place where I play out my Gym battles, you see, as well as where I often retreat to should I require a moment alone. It also holds great significance to the both of us, due to a number of memories we have shared there.
To provide some examples.. well, my first inviting her to share the valley with me could serve as one quite well. It was perhaps somewhat of a hasty decision on my part, considering the swiftness with which I approached her so soon after escaping that so-called sanctum once more, and thrust the crystal key into her hands with almost too much eagerness - but I could simply think of no other way to express my gratitude to her for coming to my aid, and wished to do so as soon as possible.
Then, of course, the battle for my badge that we were able to share together, safe within the darkness of the innermost crystal cavern, was wonderful; my love and her Pokémon worked together excellently, and prevailed despite all being at a theoretical disadvantage. Yet ghosts and the darkness have always been found hand-in-hand, have they not? So it is not surprising that they should flourish when together - both our teammates and ourselves.
The next special memory would be that which immediately followed this battle, in truth - for it was then that we two first truly confessed our love to each other, there among the crystals and the darkness. It was as if we somehow knew that the months to come would be so different to those we had shared together prior to that point; after all, once my love had departed for Agate, she would find herself unable to retrace her steps until the sky itself could serve as means to return her.
..I remember spending many lonely days within the confines of the valley, retreating into the safety of its cavernous depths, to which only she and I held the key; on some, I would make my way to the top of the waterfall, and contemplate many things as I looked out over it. I must admit to isolating myself quite severely during that time, but.. even so, I didn't ever give up hope that I would lock eyes upon my love again. And lock eyes upon her I did, at that most gentle sunset - I shall never forget how I felt when my eyes were shadowed by something that could not have been a cloud, and I looked up to see her far above me, descending into the valley's heart as quickly as dear Drifter and his basket would allow her to fall. It was, truly, one of the most cherished moments I have experienced - and it took place, like so many others, within Iolia.

Oh, my, I've really spoken quite at length about this, haven't I? I'm terribly sorry to have kept you for too long, if you've other matters to attend to. Even so - thank you, truly, once again for your curiosity. May it have been well-sated by my answer."

forrr luna ! what drew you to adriana both as a person, and as someone you fell in love with?
Luna: "Greetings, my friend! It is lovely to hear from you again. Have you and yours been well of late? Thank you kindly for your inquiry; I shall do my utmost to answer it well.
Hmm.. I believe I would say that it was my love's attire that first caught my attention, swiftly followed by her demeanour. I had initially welcomed her into my home as a challenger to Father, you see, and she had arrived together with Cain, whom.. it could perhaps be said has a very characteristic way of portraying himself that is not quite the same as hers. Please note that I mean him no ill will by this, of course! The two are simply rather different.
I-In any case, however- when I first set eyes upon Adriana, I found her sense of fashion to be rather unique, in a way that I greatly appreciated despite it not quite being the same as my own preferred tastes. This uniqueness became all the more intriguing once she had told me that her attire had been created by none other than the Gym Leader of her home city, a coordinate created in honour of her very first Pokémon, for her to wear in order to display Valerie's fashion capabilities abroad.. Such a detail was only mentioned to me once in a casual conversation, yet the fact alone belied so much of her nature, and I could not help but feel able to relate to her status as the scion of the Laverre family, considering my own as the daughter of the castle's lord.
However, while her clothing was the very first aspect that drew me to my love, it was by far her personality that captivated me so much further, and indeed continues to, to this day. Her gentle nature ever imbued with kindness, her soft-spoken tone that is nevertheless reinforced with quiet strength, her brilliant mind and sensible disposition that still holds such wonderful sensitivity to the lesser-known things of our world.. Like a wayward soul tired from wandering at midnight, finally guided home by the light of the moon, I shall ever be grateful to have had the chance to meet her in this way, and that the many ways in which I was drawn to her have allowed us to remain so close despite what others may have wished.
Ah.. I do believe I've spoken quite at length about this topic. I do apologise if it was excessive. Regardless, though - thank you kindly once again for your inquiry, and it is my sincere hope that I have answered it sufficiently. If there's anything else you desire, please do not hesitate to inform me once more."

I THINK I MIGHT HAVE THE TEAMS
(No I still don’t have a name or design or much of a story for this self-insert. But, I have her Pokémon teams!)
Her original team of six from her first journey in Hoenn is:
Fiore, a Shiny male Blaziken (starter Pokémon)
Luma, a female Breloom
Mari, a Shiny female Azumarill
Aria, a female Altaria
Discord, a male Absol
Siren, a female Froslass
And then, her team of six while she is in Paldea is:
Mari, a Shiny female Azumarill (the same one as in Hoenn)
Lily, a female Lilligant
Topaz, a male Ampharos
Nemesis, a female Ceruledge
Snowball, a male Tera-Steel Glaceon
Alain, a male Tera-Ice Gallade
As can be seen from this, this new self-insert doesn’t stick to any particular nicknaming scheme across all of her Pokémon, unlike Adriana (who gives nicknames based on fitting words, like Soulfire for Chandelure) or Nova (whose nicknames come from sounds in the Pokémon’s name, like Chirithy from Cinccino). In fact, she kind of has a mix of both of those styles across the Pokémon she has.
She originally deliberated whether to bring as many of her Hoenn team as she could to Paldea, but eventually decided to only bring Mari and Aria, mainly for ease of traversing the region with their help (as she didn’t know they had such a good Flying Taxi system until she got there). Later on, she ended up trading Aria for the Glaceon she has since nicknamed Snowball.
I know I still don’t have much established for this self-insert, but I’m still having a lot of fun thinking about her and developing her more, so I hope it’s okay to have made this post!

void-kissed (Luna/Adriana)
A dark dreamer learning to love the life she has made for herself, and her soul-touched love brought back from a previous timeline. Together, they help to save a city reborn, living together in the grand Vanhanen Castle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
series: Pokémon Reborn romantic F/O: Luna Vanhanen self-insert: Adriana Laverre names for the selfship: void-kissed, lunadri, voidkissedshipping selfship start date: 9th May 2020 (approximately)
Content for this selfship: on this blog | on previous blogs
Some things you may wish to know about this selfship are below the readmore!
Luna's character tag is "love: dark dreamer (luna)", while Adriana's tag is "self-insert: soul-touched (adriana)". The tag for the selfship as a whole is "selfship: void-kissed (luna/adriana)".
In the story of this selfship, Adriana meets Luna upon arriving at Vanhanen Castle to battle her adopted father Radomus, and later rushes to her aid in the Subseven Sanctum. The two confess their feelings to each other after Adriana successfully obtains Luna's Gym Badge, but cannot then reunite until after Reborn City has been revitalised, because of Adri getting stranded in Carnelia for several months. After the events of the main game, Adriana moves in with Luna to live in Vanhanen Castle, becoming the Reborn League's first reserve/Shadow Champion. When Shade steps down from being the Ghost-type Gym Leader, Adriana takes his place, taking challengers in Iolia Valley just like Luna does (until she becomes one of the Elite Four, that is).
This is one of my main romantic selfships, so there is a lot of story!
I headcanon Luna to have a slightly different appearance to how she appears in the game; specifically, she dyes her hair black so that it better resembles the other Vanhanens', and wears coloured contacts (one eye is pink and the other is blue) as a reference to Serra. I still like her in-game appearance just as much, but this headcanon is one that I got quite attached to, so most of how I portray Luna will be with this appearance.
Pokémon Reborn has at least three successive timelines - one where Fern is the protagonist/player character equivalent, one where Adriana is, and one where the player is. My selfship with Luna exists in both the second and third timelines, and the story is fairly similar in both (aside from second timeline failing before postgame). To tell the difference, Adriana has dark brown freckles in the second timeline (and uses Pokémon of lots of different types), whereas she has white freckles in the third timeline (and almost exclusively uses Ghost-type Pokémon).
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this! If you have any questions, or there's anything else you think I should put on this info post, please don't hesitate to let me know by sending an ask!

Luna: "Ah, I need to fix this.." Adriana: "I can help you, if you'd like me to!"
Tumblr media
Here is today's render, if that's alright! Last year had a week of prompts set up by sapphicseptemberhub, and the one for this date was "realisation". At that time, I wrote out Adri and Luna's exchange in the Void, where Luna realises she would rather live than die. This time around, I went for a decidedly less ouch-y realisation - namely, that Luna dyes her hair, in order to match her adopted family more closely and separate herself from her past more.
I forgot to save an image of the first view and saved over it to make the second one, so I had to use a much more work-in-progress picture of it (with far too much AutoLuminous) without much time to make it look passable. However, I like to think that the second picture turned out much better ^-^
