Oh man.. a part of me can't help but wonder when Paige and Hayward got to talking about Carpenter and Faulkner. Was it when they got to Bellwhethers? Did they arrive there and Hayward talked about how he found it only to have Paige set him straight on what exactly happened, that Carpenter and Faulkner weren't to blame for it? Did they have to go through a whole "let's talk about the elephant in the room" moment and did Paige also tease Hayward about his whole "I'll hunt you down until the ends of the Earth" speech?

And on that note, I also can't help but wonder how Paige told the story. Considering how much emphasis TSV puts on stories, I can't help but wonder what Paige did or didn't tell to Hayward. Did she tell him about their conversation at the restaurant, when Carpenter revealed what happened to her parents? When Faulkner stood up to the angel? It's especially amusing to me that Hayward immediately refers to Faulkner as "the lory thief" like.. did Paige and Hayward have a good laugh at the absurdity of Paige getting put in the trunk of her own car because she stumbled upon their attempted theft? And that's the thing that stood out most to him? This isn't meant to be Deep Thoughts about this part or anything I just am fascinated by the image of Paige and Hayward talking about the other two, a conversation that completely changed Hayward's perspective of Carpenter to the point that she's now an old friend to him.

sooo glad you're a) talking about the VERY present themes of sm in MHA, but also b) not making yourself overly available to explain that stuff to strangers on the internet, since it's a kind of thing that is kind of uhh up to personal interpretation. like a ton of anime and manga have strong sm themes/images, and half the time its just because the imagery is just plain FUN for the artists to draw, and half the time because there's a lot of like. religious/moral themes being explored in (particularly long form graphic novel) stories AND s&m uhhh practices and lots of that stuff has absolutely nothing to do with sex and also a lot of it does. trying to make any calls about authorial intent where those themes overlap is suuuuch nebulous territory and probably need to be explored by the reader for themselves. also: how many authors talk about 'i love my little guy, I need to put him through the horrors'- that's the sadomasochism babes!!! it's how a lot of people engage in story telling, we need to call it what it is without attaching moral value to it because that's just a facet of normal regular human engagement with the world ✌️

Thank you. And look, I'm just out here saying a lot of the best climactic manga moments people love involve their favorites getting tortured in one way or another. And I think such themes are present in all sorts of media aimed at even like elementary school kids (or sometimes superficially censored TO BE "suitable" for such ages). And even if MHA in some ways takes some things a step further than its contemporaries, it's faaaaar from the first manga to do anything like this. In fact I'd even call some of its themes in this regard tame.

But also MHA do be having some kinky shit [/pos] sometimes and it's shocking to me that we're on chapter 396 and this is still news to some people given it shows up pretty blatantly in like the first chapter.

In non sad news - I got a working spot in the training seminar I signed up for!

I legit registered in the first ten minutes the link went live but could only get an audit spot. The working spots sold out that fast. But I was informed I was second in the wait-list so I've been holding out hope.

Just got an email that a working spot opened so of course I jumped on it.

Super excited because the topic is play as a primary reinforcer! I've been shifting my training, with both my dogs personally and with client dogs, to be more play heavy. It's an ongoing goal of mine to make training more fun for the dog and I'm so happy to have this opportunity.

This is my winter holiday gift from my boss, who will cover not only the cost of the seminar but also hotel/air BNB costs.
