If you---like me---are not naturally inclined to walking (just...wandering around, with no defined destination or purpose? why???) your brain may be tricked by thinking of them as ""photography walks""

(you do not need a fancy camera, you can just take your phone)

A photography walk is about pretending that you are an Artist capturing Life, and this involves a lot of stopping and starting and staring; paying attention to people, light, chipping paint, signs, shadows, whatever trees or plants are growing around you, etc. (I like to pretend I'm Vivian Maier, and someday they'll find my flickr account and be wildly impressed.) You take 500 pictures and maybe 50 of them are halfway decent. Then you go home, a little sunburnt and windswept and tired in a satisfied way.

.....are these excursions really an excuse to leave your apartment; get some fresh air and sun; take in nature, the world; rattle you out of any grey funk you might find yourself in? I mean yes of course, but first you have to take a picture of the rust on that railing.

#this and scheduling yourself for Enriching Activities like you're a senior in an assisted living facility are my two greatest hacks #to avoid being trapped inside the four walls of your apartment #maybe you're not ready for book clubs or church groups or parks department softball games #but get yourself out in the light. take pictures of some crumbling bricks or go to the zoo and maybe you'll calm down.#wherever there is light

unpopular (?) opinion: everyone on tumblr who got so excited about caleb "not leaving essek when he got old like he said he would" bc dani referred to essek as caleb's partner in the recap for echoes of the solstice has a vastly skewed perception of what "old" means. caleb is 42ish. in what universe does 42 = "an old man".

STRONG AGREE OH MY GOD. Like...Kind of going back to the "hey you need to have a generous read and consider the Doylist Explanation of it all" ask from earlier today, genuinely, people do need to appreciate that, because Caleb and Essek's relationship was stated as canon half-in-character by Liam in an epilogue narration over 6.5 hours into a marathon finale session, and because Essek is an NPC, the precise logistics were not explored because it's not actually relevant to the story exactly when they get together and when they amicably part; what's important is that it happens. If you are unable to intuit this from the T-Dock scene perhaps you should not be in the business of caring about canon ships.

But also on a much more obvious level, yes, literally I always imagined that the amicable parting would be when Caleb was probably in his 70s and Essek was still only like 160. In general the response to character ages and appearances for Echoes of the Solstice had me like "are you all Luc Brenatto's age of 17 or 12 years old. do you not know any adult human beings. Are you literally Romulus and/or Remus of ancient Roman lore, raised only by wolves."

Thinking about cyberpunk/steampunk/retrofuturist Tolkien elves again. I think that they deserve blimps! I think that they deserve to invent trains, have Balrog flashbacks, and banish trains to the Underground. I think that they get real into the potential of AI for a little bit (Aulë admits he’s been trying to crack it for ages but when have they let the failure of the gods stop them). Until then, creepy 18th century automatons! Clockwork animatronics! Imagine them equipped with solar powered biplanes. Not even regular planes, biplanes are enough to wreck havoc. Imagine the windmills. Imagine the hydroelectric projects in Alqualondë. Imagine tragicomic space exploration attempts to get to the other side of their (still flat) patch of earth.

im in the waiting room for the therapists office but they have a white noise machine in every single fucking room and its making me go insane
