Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp's tribute to Simon Kjaer

“Tonight Simon Kjaer lines up against us as a man with the respect of the entire sporting world. You recognize true leadership in a crisis. The world acknowledges this now more than ever with everything that goes on around us.

Like many, I was rocked by the scenes that unfolded this summer at the Euros when Eriksen fell ill. There were many heroes that night, not least all of the remarkable medical professionals. But Simon shone that traumatic day for his own conduct.

The image of the Danish players shielding their teammate as he was cared for will, in my opinion, forever be one of the most iconic in sporting history. It showed the best of humanity. Compassion, care and love for their friend.

Honestly, I have no idea how Simon managed to not only keep his own composure in that situation, but to have the clarity of mind to make the decisions he did in that moment. His conduct humbles us all.

I'm told his dad is an Liverpool FC fan. If that's the case he must be bursting with pride that his boy is recognized worldwide as the epitome of our anthem You'll Never Walk Alone. I'm sure Simon will feel the gratitude of the home crowd, but for 90 minutes he's the opponent.”

1. Why did you choose your URL?

jordan henderson is my favorite footballer, and that much is still obvious even as i’m less and less involved with liverpool. this is also why it’s so hard for me to part with this url, and honestly idk if i will! i’ve had it now since he lifted the premier league trophy.

abso-fucking-lutely yes it’s @vetustamorla and i post everything there from tv to fandom to pretty things to the occasional oversharing

3. How long have you been on Tumblr?

since 2016 and counting, but only since 2017 as proper, sole football tumblr

absolutely not, do i look like i have a queue tag? if u come to this blog looking for content i doubt u care if it’s current or queued

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

cause of euro 2016 -- i had to find a space to express my love of arek milik and my hatred of the portuguese national team, and its still pretty much the gist of things

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

bc i mfing LOVE erick pulgar he’s the funniest most random footballer to stan and that’s why he’s the one for me. also, bc i enjoyed chile at the copa america last summer

7. Why did you choose your header?

patrick cutrone was the first player i loved at milan, i watched him grow and grew with him, and i’ve had this header ever since and haven’t stopped. it’s not going anywhere folks. se queda.

my 3 posts with the most notes aren’t football-related so i’ll skip them; that would be my rant about simon kjaer post you know which denmark match in the 2020 euros
