An interview with Matt Bellamy in the Guardian, 17 August 2001. By Will Hodgekinson.
Matt Bellamy is the slight, angular, 23-year-old lead singer of the rock band Muse. He's sharing a flat in north London with a friend from his hometown of Teignmouth and the band's drummer, Dom. The flat has the air of a temporary home with only the bare necessities present and standard regulation furniture fills up the space between a piano in one corner and a computer in the other. For a flat occupied by three rock'n'roll-involved young men, it's surprisingly clean.
"We've been here a couple of months," says Bellamy, who talks in a rapid monotone. "I lived in Exeter for six months and I'll probably be here for six months before hopefully moving to the States. I'm living my life in six-month chunks at the moment."
Laying down roots is not on the current agenda. "If I'm in the same place for too long, I can't write anything. When things are changing, that's when the writing kicks in, whether that change be moving house, or losing a girlfriend, or making a new bunch of friends. Because that's when I get the urge of wanting to be in touch with the one thing that is constant, which is the feeling I get from making music. That's why the last album was called Origin of Symmetry - it's important to have that base when everything is in flux."
Being a child of the 21st century, Bellamy has dispensed with the notion of a record collection for something far more transportable - music stored on computer. "Since Napster went, the program you need is Morpheus, which can not only download music, but films and other computer programs as well. Perhaps I shouldn't be saying this, but I've got AI and all these films that haven't come out yet downloaded on to my computer. And with songs, you download the ones you want from somebody else's machine and form your own playlist."
When he's away from the computer, Bellamy uses a wristwatch-sized MP3 player to listen to music. "You plug a lead into the computer and put on the songs you want, so you can walk around with this and the quality is brilliant. It costs about £250. I'm on planes a lot and they always tell me to turn off my Walkman during take-off, but this is so small that they can't even see I've got it on. When you put these headphones on, it's absolute cut-off from the outside world. You can't hear kids crying or anything."
On the little MP3 player is a catholic range of music. Along with tracks by Rage Against the Machine, Weezer, American lo-fi favourites Grandaddy and funk-rockers Primus are blues tracks by Robert Johnson and European classical excerpts. "When I was about 10 my dad played me Robert Johnson, and that was the first time I heard music that made me feel something, even though what I'm playing on piano these days isn't blues but music from European history, be it folk, classical, or flamenco. I'm into Jeff Buckley's voice a lot too, as he was one of the first male singers who made me comfortable about singing in a female range."
Another favourite is the Belgian rock band Deus. "One of the best rock bands from Europe. They're too experimental for radio here so they've never made it, but they're huge in Belgium. They jump across all kinds of styles and will play anything from blues to disco in the same track. They've been around for about 10 years, and they did a tour supporting PJ Harvey in England, but apart from that, they've never had much exposure."
All of this feeds into Muse's own sound - emotional, heartfelt rock popular with troubled young men. "Chris, the bass player, is into his metal, and for some reason he's also obsessed by the Beach Boys, and he's got all those outtakes of Beach Boys tracks that you can get. Dom's into percussive things like Buddy Miles and the Aphex Twin. We all like Rage Against the Machine, while I listen to a lot of classical music and the other two don't really go there. We meet in the middle of all our tastes with what we do in the band."
From playing us noisy American rock on his computer, Bellamy goes to knocking out some astonishingly accomplished classical piano. "I play the piano for ages because I enjoy the experience of doing it. It's always been something of an escape, if you like," he says. "Then something will come from that and there will be the start of a new song, even if at that point it's just expressing a state of mind, a feeling of loneliness or whatever. I wrote a lot of the last album on tour, so I would often find a piano backstage at a venue, and just play it all day."
Occasionally, there's time for that most traditional of listening pleasures, the record. "Our producer, John Leckie, has opened me up to people like Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart, and even Jimi Hendrix who I don't think I would have listened to otherwise. After a day's session he would pull out a few records and play them in the dark. It was cool."

Sablé Breton, (sob-lee breh-tone) is a classic, very buttery cookie coming from the Bretagne region (Britanny) in the North-West of France. The region is famous for its indulgent use of butter, in particular salted butter. The word Sablé is French for sand and refers to the butter being incorporated into the flour. It actually feels sandy after mixing. The cross hatch design on top is the traditional finish. Don't mistake the simplicity of this cookie as just another butter cookie. The French make the best butter cookies, including Petit Beurre. Sablé Breton are another of their superb cookies that are in a class by themselves. Four ingredients make up the cookie with salted butter being the most important one and Brittany has the best sea salt as well as butter. "The history of salt works on the peninsula stretches back 2,700 years; Brittany’s “white gold” was a sought-after luxury product as early as Roman times" according to the Taste of France magazine. These make a perfect holiday gift, especially since they can be made ahead and baked when needed. Why you want to make this cookie They are really easy to make with just 4 ingredients. How can you go wrong? These cookies can be made well in advance. Simply cut out the cookies, freeze, wrap and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Sablé Breton are like no other butter cookie you'll ever eat. They are absolutely addictive. I can say that from personal experience. They're perfect with coffee or tea, as a snack or just because they are so good. They make an exquisite gift for someone special. Variations Add a lemon or orange rind to the dough. A chocolate version can be made by removing 1/4 cup of flour and substituting 1/4 cup Dutch cocoa. Add 1/2 cup of any nut and process it along with the flour. Increase the egg yolks to 3. While these are usually served as single cookies, they can be sandwiched with jam, nutella, or buttercream. Any size cutter can be used. Recipe Ingredients Sablé Breton Dough FRONT ROW: European Salted Butter, egg yolks BACK ROW: All-purpose flour, granulated sugar Egg Wash Egg Yolk, Milk The butter I used is Kerrygold Salted Butter. It is a European butter that has a higher fat content (82%) which gives a richer taste and color to the cookie. However, it softens faster when rolling out but a quick trip to the refrigerator or freezer firms it up. Granulated sugar is used for the sandy texture that is indicative of this cookie. I have seen recipes with powdered sugar but that defeats the sandiness of the cookies. The egg yolks enrich the cookie and add color. They are essential to the texture. The egg yolk and milk glaze adds shine and a pleasant glow to the cookie as well as being traditional. Be sure to see the recipe card below for the exact ingredients & instructions. Step by Step Instructions Step 1. Kerrygold is just one of many European butters either imported or made in America. The bold package holds salted butter while the silver package is for unsalted.Step 2. Cut the butter into small pieces. The easiest way is to cut is legthnwise and crosswise into about 8 cuts. The butter has to be very cold before continuing. Step 3. Add the dry ingredients to the processor and place the cold butter over them. Step 4. Process until the butter is indistinguishable. Step 5. Add the sugar to the processor. Step 6. Process to incorporate. Step 7. Add the egg yolks. Step 8. Process until the dough comes together. It does not have to form a ball. Pour the dough onto your work surface. Step 9. Gather the dough together and form into a flat round. Step 10. Divide the dough in half to make it easier to roll out. Step 11. If the dough is really soft, chill until firmed up somewhat. Do not let it get hard. Roll one piece between wax paper. There is a great tutorial regarding rolling dough between wax paper and why I prefer this medium over others. You will find it in my post Cut Out Cookies Using the Wax PaperTechnique.
Step 12. After chilling or freezing, cut the cookie out in the desired size. Leave them on the bottom sheet of wax paper and freeze them. Step 13. Make vertical lines from the top to bottom of the cookie with the tines of a fork. Step 14. Draw diagonal lines across the vertical ones. Step 15. After the first set of lines is drawn, line the fork up leaving the appropriate amount of space and continue across the cookie. Step 16. The cookie should be chilled at this point. When ready to bake, combine the egg yolk and milk and brush each cookie. Alternative Directions with a Mixer The dough may be made in a mixer with a few changes. All the ingredients remain the same. However, the butter should be softened instead of refrigerated. Beat the sugar and butter until combined. Add the egg yolks, mixing in well. Add the flour, mixing on low. Shape into a flat round and chill if too soft to roll out. Continue as above, rolling between wax paper. Recipe FAQ's What is a Sablé Breton?  The word sablé means sandy in French. The word breton refers to Brittany, France's northwesternmost region. Breton shortbread literally means Sandy Cookies from Brittany. What makes this cookie different from other butter cookies? The butter used is salted unlike most butter cookies that call for unsalted butter. The salt is an important ingredient as well as the butter. For authenticity the butter should be of the European type which has an 82% butterfat content vs. American type butters which are mandated to be at least 80% butterfat. The higher butterfat content makes the cookies even more buttery. What is the texture of the Sablé Breton? The cookies have a crisp and crumbly texture with an over the top buttery taste and a melt in your mouth quality that will have you reaching for more than one. Expert Tips The butter should be refrigerator cold when adding it to the dry ingredients. To cut out the cookies, chill the dough until firm. Do not freeze. Roll between wax paper. Cut the cookies into the desired size. Without removing the cookies from the surrounding dough, freeze the whole thing keeping it on the bottom paper. Simply pop the cookies out. Bring the scraps together when thawed, re-roll and continue to make more cookies. The cross hatch design and brushing the cookies with the egg wash gives them the traditional Sablé Breton finish. If you love these Sablé Breton or any other recipe on my website, please leave a 🌟 star rating in the recipe card and let me know how it went the in 📝 comments below. Thank you, I appreciate you being here. Sablé Breton You don't want to miss this easy, classic, buttery cookie from the Bretagne region (Britanny) in North-West France. Best ever butter cookie! Sablé Breton 3/4 cup European style salted butter, cold (170 grams)2 cups all-purpose flour (280 grams)2/3 cup granulated sugar (130 grams)2 egg yolksEgg Glaze1 egg yolk1 teaspoon milk If for any reason you cannot find or use European style butter, add 1/3 teaspoon salt to the flour and continue. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line several baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.Cut the butter into small pieces as shown in the pictures above. Put it back in the refrigerator while prepping the remaining ingredients. It is important for it to be cold.Place the flour in a food processor and add the butter. Pulse several times. Add the cold butter pieces and process until the butter is indistingushable. Add the sugar and process briefly to mix. Add the 2 egg yolks and process until the dough comes together. It may not form a ball and that's fine. Pour out onto a work surface and push it together. Form it into a flat round. The dough should be fine to continue but if it is too soft, refrigerate briefly to firm up. Do not let it get too hard or it will be difficut to roll.Divide the dough in half (about 300 grams each piece). Place one piece between two pieces of wax paper and roll to about 1/4". For the cleanest edges, refrigerate or
freeze briefly. Cut out rounds of the desired size. The cookies shown are 2 1/2 inches. Do not remove the dough around the cookies.Place the cookies, still between the paper on a baking sheet and refrigerate or freeze until hard. Remove the top piece of paper and pop the cookies out. Place on the prepared baking sheets. With the back tines of a fork, mark the cookies vertically. Placing the fork on a diagonal, mark the cookies again, making small diamonds. (See photos).Combine the 1 egg yolk and milk. Brush the cookies. Bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown and set. Cool. The cookies can be stored in an airtight container for a week or 10 days.Alternatively, prepare the cookies, through marking them and freeze them unbaked. To bake, glaze them with the egg glaze and bake, allowing a few additional minutes in the oven.To Make in a MixerSoften the butter and place in the mixing bowl with the sugar. Beat until combined.Mix in the eggs.Add the flour and beat on low to bring everything together.Proceed as above, chilling the dough slightly if it is too soft to roll. Please see the step by step photos for visual instructions.  The butter should be refrigerator cold when adding it to the dry ingredients. To cut out the cookies, chill the dough until firm. Do not freeze. Roll between wax paper. Cut the cookies into the desired size. Without removing the cookies from the surrounding dough, freeze the whole thing keeping it on the bottom paper. This is the shape of the vehicle it's very plain Jane and it's kind of the idea he has is to make it interchangeable and plain Jane and easy to build and this is very easy to build because it's straightforward and there's no crazy angles to it. With upgraded seals and fairings and so forth and it'll be a couple not many and tires and rims and colors it looks very sharp and it is kind of bare bones it's cloth interior but is a performer this this type of car performs here but not like the new or not they look very very snazzy. But it's recycled vehicle and the way this is built is going to roll and crash rating is very high it's very safe and that's what we're going after and less expensive recycled version of this will probably be like 8 to $10,000 but that's because it's fully loaded with all sorts of stuff usually have but he says you can sell a Bare Bones one we could do that for about 7 Grand or maybe even less and we're going to look into it and we should do that and have different models and it look like a normal automobile store we have like two or three levels and you have one that's like a sporty version of this and then be like a Audi or something of the level of performance and we like it because it's really a French car and it's a wonderful ways to thank them it'll increase their sales and really the performance model with handle extremely well it would be a sports car. This size is the smallest we make except for two door and I need to make the larger four-door and we would make so that's three cars so far a truck with a compact truck that's that's a compact or the smaller and then a regular truck and we have a full line right there for the most part with an SUV the SUV would be a similar idea available in four wheel drive and people go nuts over it all recycled materials means cheap and I'll tell you 10 grand is cheap for a nice vehicle like this and then that $10,000 reason we only have one step up to the ultra performance and luxury it should only be 14 or 15,000 the car that's as good as like Lori's here
Frank Castle hardcastle
Call me why this is probably as good as our sons Kia I've been better because the fuses won't be crappy and the motor configuration is better but really it was a nice car to ride around in comfortable and handles well and that's what's going to be like because European design
Duke Nukem Blockbuster
We're approving this idea and we'll send it to Olympus and it is an awesome idea to make it interchangeable it's really intense and even with the motorcycle and or electric motorcycle and the name is hard times motor company but we may make the car name different and he suggested it, and we're getting together to decide and it said maybe something cool like a French word for recycle or French word that's close to recycle or something like that and that way they can sell their car there cuz they won't buy as many of these and they're actually laughing cuz that's fun and we got to look into that
Thor Freya
Me too
Hera
Me some
Zues
Me the last line ok we
Duke Nukem Blockbuste
We we and yes we agree
The French but are kind
And we agree too and oh contraire no this is great

Biting on a nut, especially an almond, stand out from the crowd because to their robust flavour and earthy taste, as well as their thick and crispy texture.
It may be hard to exercise given the busy lifestyle most of us lead, but we always have a choice to alter our daily habits and the food we eat to improve our health. The first thing a doctor will recommend if you go to them for advice on how to lose weight or treat a major health problem is a diet that includes dried fruits. That being said, today we'll go further into everyone's favourite and most widely consumed dry fruits: almonds.
What is Almond?
Almonds are a nutrient-dense food. They're a great option for vegetarians and vegans looking to get their protein intake up. This little brown dry fruit is not only tasty and adds texture and nutrition to your recipes, but also a great vitamin source. You can eat a handful of almonds and feel satisfied for hours. If you consume almonds in between meals, you won't feel the need to snack.  There are, of course, a plethora of health advantages that we shall discover in the next section.
What are the benefits of Almonds?
A single ounce of almonds, or about the size of a fistful, provides a person with one-eighth of their daily protein requirements. It has been suggested that almonds, along with other nuts and seeds, can help lower blood fat levels. As a result, your heart health may improve. Almonds have a low glycemic index yet are a good source of protein, healthy fats, and fibre.
Who should not consume almonds?
Almonds should be avoided by those who are allergic to nuts. Almonds can cause severe allergic reactions, including redness, swelling, and difficulty in breathing. Nuts may be hidden in a variety of baked goods, savoury dishes, and other foods. Therefore, read the packaging carefully and avoid those products.
What did CM's tests of almonds find?
Among the tested almond products, Choicemonk discovered not every almond pack is created equal. Size and form were two aspects that were variable. Brown patches, gum on kernels, insect injuries, and skin blemishes were seen on some almond kernels.
Which is the best almond product?  Among the products that passed testing and were "Approved" for their quality, CM has identified the  for you, check the top 3 almond recommendations now.
You may munch on them, consume raw or roast them up for a tasty treat.
Many kinds of almonds may be found in supermarkets and on websites, but the most frequent ones are California, Mamra, and European almonds.
Now, let us quickly understand what to consider while purchasing the best quality almonds.
Keep these things in mind
Never buy almonds that have been peeled. Almonds become less tasty and lose their crisp texture and appearance when exposed to air.
Consider the weight of the almonds in your hands before making a purchase, and stick to the lighter varieties.
There should not be any kind of hole or crack in the almond. Here's a little fact: If almonds aren't stored properly, mites can get trapped in them and eat their way through the nuts, leaving empty shells.
Avoid any discoloration, clinging hulls, and cracked seed coats of almonds.
If you find any kind of foul smell from the product, it means they have gone stale or rancid. Therefore, never purchase almonds that smell bad.
Always choose a pack that has air tight packaging and no moisture content.
Final Thoughts
Almonds are a healthy dry fruit and provides a range of essential nutrients and can be good source of protein for people who follow a plant-based diet. They are also versatile, and people can incorporate them into the diet in many ways. But are all the almond products equally beneficial? Of course not. Each brand varies in terms of efficacy, purity, nutritional value, or taste. That’s why Choicemonk experts have evaluated all the top-performing brands on various key parameters to help you simplify your shoping experience. Make sure you check the top brand recommendations of almonds before purchasing.

“some of the American suburbs I've seen are honest to god hostile to human life” this…. This articulates what I’ve been thinking about parts of America for a while tbh. And the worst part is most people aren’t even aware of it? Not through any fault of their own but the “America is the Greatest Place on Earth and we Must Save Everyone Else” mentality is so strong that a lot of people honestly believe it? Imagine not being able to walk 5 mins to your nearest food shop? What the fuck? I mean, parts of Essex are shit and built around cars as well but dear God. Another horrifying American thing I’ve been looking into recently is the teaching profession and how the s h i t e working conditions are driving a horrifying teacher shortage that no one seems to want to do anything about? Hospitality staff having to rely on tips to make ends meet is bad enough but needing to take on a second job when you’re a teacher with a master’s degree on top of having to pay for school supplies for your class or make an Amazon wish list… that country is a real-live dystopia ngl. I’m done with the unexpected rant you definitely didn’t ask for lol but that garage post did something to me
yeah, like... obviously I'm not going to sit here and act like this is a strictly American problem because god knows my country has issues too, but these issues combined with the whole propaganda thing? it honestly terrifies me, and I think a lot of Americans don't even realise it's happening -- at least not until they get old enough to get online and learn about how things go in other countries. a lot of Americans are becoming aware of it now, but there are still so many people of all ages who genuinely outright believe or just don't question what's being taught.
I bitch a lot about how American-centric the internet is, and with good reason. I've had Americans say very offensive things to me because of ignorance over basic facts, and I've been accused of lying because I've spelled things "wrong" or stated things that have happened that apparently wouldn't have happened in America. it's frustrating that the mere consideration that I might not be an American doesn't even cross their minds, and it's annoying that I have to censor my own language and dialect so that Americans don't ridicule me or deliberately misunderstand me so they can make stupid jokes. like, this is all valid criticism -- when I'm online, for example, I do not presume that everyone I'm speaking to is Irish. I don't even presume everyone I'm speaking to is American. it seems straightforward to me, but apparently a lot of people out there just don't bother.
however, I know that a lot of this isn't a conscious, deliberate choice to be an ass. the absolutely abyssmal public education in America is partly to blame... and to be honest, the American-centricness that these people grow up with, I think, makes it physically impossible for a lot of them to consider others. it doesn't occur to them because it's never been taught to them. now, if you point it out, and they still keep at it, that's just being a dick. but you can hardly condemn somebody for something they didn't even realise they were doing. they're literally indoctrinated from birth to accept all these absolutely insane things -- shitty public transport, no sidewalks or stores at all in their massive European-city sized neighbourhoods, terrible public education, fucking lunch debt, having to pay for something as basic a human right as healthcare, working for below minimum wage and having to rely on tips, school shootings for Christ's sake -- and because they're also told that America is The Greatest, they assume (and are often outright told) that other countries are much worse. the genuine anger, surprise, and disbelief I've seen from Americans when I've explained how things are in my country is unbelievable. once a person expressed disbelief in a story I told because it centred around the ending up in the emergency room with a friend, and he could not wrap his head around how I wasn't stressed about bills, and why I called an ambulance when technically we could have got a taxi. (hint: I called an ambulance because my friend was in agony, and you know... that's what the ambulance service is for. it never even occured to me to do anything else. at the hospital it turned out she had a broken elbow, so good call, really.) he was absolutely astounded when I told him it cost me nothing. not a single penny. he had been constantly told that socialised healthcare would never work, and when he realised that I don't even notice my taxes coming out to pay for it, he got pissed, wondering why his country couldn't do the same. it's absolutely insane, what American people are forced to live with -- and then they're lied to, straight up, and told that this is the best it gets.
to my American followers, I am so glad you're waking up to this bullshit, but you have got to keep pushing back. the world is watching your country with heartbreak and horror. to many of us, you live in hell. even with my own country's absolute bullshit (and I say this as someone who grew up in a warzone and who is now putting up with the national embarrassment that is Brexit) you could not pay me to live in America. you couldn't even pay me to visit, at this point. sincerely, wishing you a very pleasant revolution.

It is a malt liquor that's why it tastes so rich and the alcohol content is very high and it's 40 proof that's part of the reason most hard liquor is 70 or 80 but really it is because it's in solution it's like wine wine will make you drunk real fast but it's not really drank to be drunk it's a great healthier beer it's very rich and hops and barley and it is part of a diet actually for specific regions where you can't have many liquids we get fungus. And barley is a natural fungus fighter.
And this is the size we'd like to send to rays complimentary. And it's kind of just for the heck of it and to see what will go on cuz people little strange and I guess you can sell it if he wants to and suggested presentation is in the ice we even have a barrel and he said pay me to put it there and he said okay so we hear the rate I think it's a bit much so we agree on something. And we promise a truck load and will deliver what he can handle and we'll deliver it to the truckload is up and we know how much it is of course it says that's great it's so many cases and he agrees and it's going on now
Cuz you have to look and see if it's ever going to happen there no approaching other stores and ABC liquor says no that we haven't gone there in person he wants to be the salesperson everybody knows what it is that's what it says you have to market it and he says you put it at like steakhouses and places like that that are kind of Bavarian in their food they serve and German and Norwegian and European and so rich dark Amber and it tastes like a light Amber but tastier it's like Miller lite but has a more full taste to it same type of head and it tickles and everything its nice. We are getting offers we got a call from Walmart and not this Walmart here but headquarters they want to test it was their beers aren't selling and we have beers and they said they should put the price down to close the suggested retail and we said the reason this beer would sell it's known to be healthier and part of a meal it has a lot of calories and it's barley and hops and the Bali is known for several things and the hops are known for helping with other stuff and really hops help with the fungus barley helps with your liver so the getting more calls but Walmart is a huge one and they're trying to stop people from bothering Walmart while on the line we might mention our chocolate their friend famous Brand it's not a huge company anymore and we're going to reintroduce it to them so we're going to do it now the small ones only my son mentioned something funny it's like cheap hard liquor and you can go to Walmart and you don't have to go to the liquor store Walmart says don't mention it and he says it's going to help it get it there it's a risk but not a huge one cuz it's still a beer but there's a lot of consumers who like beer and will help other beer sales but it's a way around the go to the liquor store too thing and it's not as potent as liquor and doesn't have side effects that most liquors do and it's true as heck too he says that's great so you're going to put it in I'm going to show you the chocolate
Thor Freya
We're building this dream too I want to show the chocolate I think it should be a woman thing so they're going to have me do it Freya is going to be alone of course
