Żar lejący się z nieba mimo wczesnej pory sprawiał, że Bolesław Kopp-Kowalski ps. Piechur pełniący wartę przy magazynie broni AK nie mógł właściwie ocenić sił przeciwnika. W ostrym słońcu, poprzez krople potu spływające do oczu widział tylko ciemne sylwetki coraz gęściej zapełniające ulicę Lutnianą wokół posesji Wiktora Goliana. Właśnie tam, u starego działacza POW, który pełnił służbę kwatermistrzowską, zlokalizowany został magazyn broni, który 31 lipca 1944 r., na skutek zdrady, został odkryty przez wroga. Piechur wiedział już, że z tej opresji nie wyjdzie cało, ruch na ulicy zamarł, co oznaczało, że Niemcy rozkazali mieszkańcom ukryć się w domach. Postanowił, że tanio nie sprzeda skóry. Położył dłoń na kolbie pistoletu, pożegnał się w myślach z rodziną, wciągnął powietrze, którego nagle zaczęło mu brakować i otworzył ogień do zbliżających się żołnierzy. Huk wystrzałów sprawił, że napastnicy rozpierzchli się i przypadli do ścian kamienic. Dwóch czy trzech skuliło się i zawróciło, padły komendy po niemiecku, odezwały się karabiny i wokół Piechura niczym natrętne osy zaczęły bzyczeć pociski. Nagle jedna z os użądliła chłopca, który poczuł piekący ból i zobaczył, że chodnik podnosi się i uderza go w twarz. Potem zgasło słońce. Pchor Bolesław Kopp-Kowalski, ranny w walce, oraz 11 innych żołnierzy oddziału zrzutowego i służb liniowych Ośrodka AK - aresztowanych tego samego dnia na podstawie donosu, zostało przewiezionych do lasów młochowskich w okolicy Podkowy Leśnej i tam rozstrzelanych przez żandarmerię 2 sierpnia. Zginęli wówczas: Bolesław Kopp-Kowalski, Tadeusz Alwast, Józef Grefkowicz, Bronisław Jedwabny, Mieczysław Jurga-Szczygielski i jego siedemnastoletni syn Jan, Ryszard Olechowski, Stanisław Heiden-Piotrowski, Julian Tuszyński, Stefan Zapała, Józefa Nosecka i jej piętnastoletnia siostra Jadwiga Godlewska. Ciała rozstrzelanych ekshumowano po wojnie i przeniesiono do grobów rodzinnych na cmentarzu parafialnym w Grodzisku Maz. Na miejscu kaźni znajduje się płyta z nazwiskami ofiar.
