[ixo × TARMAC WORKS] 1/64 フェラーリ 488 GTE

ここ1年くらいで急に増えた感のある、トミカ系列以外からの1/64フェラーリ。トミカでのリリースはまだ続いているので、独占契約では無くなった、って事なんだろうか。ixoとのダブルネームなのもこのあたりに関係してそう。488はギリギリ京商から出てた世代だけど、以降のモデルの精密な1/64は不毛地帯だったので、これから期待したいところ。

今回入手したのは、2019年のルマンに女性ドライバー3人で参戦したケッセル・レーシング仕様。フェラーリ＋ウブロ＋ゲスという、なんとも資本主義の香り漂う組み合わせ。しかし流石にスタイリッシュにまとまっており、メタリックブルーにピンクと黒を合わせたストライプがとても美しい。しっかり作り込まれたメカメカしいエンジンルームとの対比もいいね！<849>

ミニカーあるあるだと思うけど、これが出ることを知ってたらHW版は買ってなかった気がする。いや、あれはあれで良いものなんだけど、積載車が嵩張るのよね…

色々うまく省略していたHWと比べると流石に印刷もディテールも段違いの密度で、特にフロントウィンドウに斜めに入ったv-optのアドレスが泣かせてくれる。アドバンホイールの立体感もいいですねぇ。<801>

MiniGT 1:64 Scale Cars - Better Than Hot Wheels?

MiniGT is a brand launched in 2017. Mini GT is one of the fastest growing 1/64 brands for collectors, and it's easy to see why - their models and accessories are detailed, to scale and in some cases just ridiculously good!

The brand is made by TSM Models. TSM is known for highly detailed, larger scale car models and they brought that highly detailed approach to the smaller 1:64 scale cars.

They tend to focus on nicer cars as opposed to funky circus style Hot Wheels cars. The big difference is that Hot Wheels are designed for children - three years and up whereas MiniGT is marketed to serious collectors and not recommended for persons under 14 years.

MiniGT cars retail for between $11 and $19 as opposed to the entry level Hot Wheels cars which can sell for just under $1.00. The premium Hot Wheels are closer in design and quality to MiniGT and those Hot Wheels cars tend to retail for about $7.00.

MiniGT cars have a jewel-like quality with enough balance, accuracy and realism to set them apart. They tend to have metal bodies and a metal base, real rubber tires, head and tail-light detail and mirrors that are rubberized so they are flexible and not so prone to damage. Another notable feature of MiniGT is that their cars will roll. They will NOT win races on a Hot Wheels track nor are they designed for that. And while all Hot Wheels cars roll, many other brands of 1:64 cars will not.

Most MiniGT will NOT have brakes like you find on TarmacWorks cars. So they are not the MOST detailed available but they are a good value.

The MiniGT packaging is much nicer than a simple blister pack like you get with Hot Wheels. MiniGT come in re-useable, cardboard boxes that are numbered. Many MiniGT collectors will feature the box with the car.

One difference between Hot Wheels and MiniGT is that most MiniGT cars have no identifying information on the bottom of the car. Hot Wheels cars all have an identifier.

MiniGT does win high marks for accurate liveries when they do race cars. The detail work is impressive on their race cars; right down to the correct sponsorship logos in many cases.

There are far more Hot Wheels releases than MiniGT releases. Hot Wheels has released tens of thousands of cars and releases thousands more each year. To date, MiniGT has released fewer than 650 cars. There are additional collaborations with Kaido House and other specialty car model makers bringing the total to just over 700 cars.

MiniGT (except for collaborations with Kaido House) are true 1:64 scale.

CONCLUSION

Hot Wheels will always have a place in my heart. They got me started in the hobby. But I have matured in my collecting to the point where I only hunt premium diecast cars. When it comes to attention to detail, build quality, true-to-scale in size and collectibility, I am leaning pretty hard into the MiniGT cars. I am still occasionally buying a Hot Wheels premium car or two, especially if the offering is a car I particularly like. I am also pretty impressed with the How Wheels Red Line Club special editions, although I think they are really over-priced. But mostly, I spend my days trying to round out my MiniGT collection. Perhaps it's partly related to the fact that it is indeed conceivable that someone would/could find and buy EVERY model of MiniGT car out there. Most are very reasonably priced. It would however be IMPOSSIBLE to find and collect every Hot Wheels car. You'd need a time machine and a bag of cash that would fill a football stadium.

For young people, kids, very casual collectors, Hot Wheels cars can be a very good value. For serious collectors who are more interested in having a collectible car than a toy, I'd highly recommend MiniGT.
