No April Fools art, I don't do that for some reason (that would require planning my art in advance lol), but I did follow a tutorial to make a procedural bronze texture! :D
All part of my grand scheme to model and render the fuck out of some sick-ass Tanta swords :3
Happy birthday to my husbando Ignis Scientia and best girl Aerith Gainsborough! :D
I had nothing planned so I scribbled this out relatively quick, by which I mean over the course of like an hour and a half lol. This is nowhere near a finished piece, more like a scribbly, sketchy thumbnail for a proper piece of art, but honestly it was kind of nice to draw something new instead of working on an old WIP
I have a few alternative ideas I want to try so I might do those for a bit to give myself a break from animating :)
@cruelfeline is a bad influence :P Hesitating on uploading this to TeePublic for sale since CF made the font; I'll have to replace it with the font I was putting together before I'm okay putting it up for sale, plus I have some cleanup I want to do to make sure everything is nice and crisp, so for now this is just a prototype ;3
Once again, I haven't gone to bed yet, it's still the day I started working on this! :P
Still following the snowman tutorial, this time I had to do a bunch of troubleshooting with renders because even though the scarf is supposed to look all fuzzy now, it wasn't doing that, like, at all, even though I followed the tutorial steps down to the 100th decimal on settings. So that took an hour and I'm still not convinced it looks right, but I'll fuck with it tomorrow. ... "Tomorrow" meaning "sometime after I wake up" lol
Uh... I crashed Blender so hard my computer forgot how to computer again 😬 Luckily this time I did a smrt and saved before I tried to render, so at least we got a screenshot!
Anyway I followed a tutorial on making a procedural icy snow texture. I can follow it through all the way to the end but the rendering engine that plays nice with my computer does NOT like how the texture works, and the one that plays nice with the texture wanted to take 48 hours. Actually 48 hours, not me misreading the time stamp this time. So I tried to fix the texture so it would play nice with Eevee (the nice render engine that doesn't take forever), but it still crashed my computer.
So yeah. I need money to upgrade my graphics cards, because the set my computer came with is not powerful enough for my needs.
Super quick adjustment in Blender tonight; decided to just swap the sword to green and the Athian V for Visoria on the pommel instead of trying to figure out how to make fire in the middle of a tutorial on making lightning, lol
Added even more things to the donut scene! And the next part of the tutorial requires a proper render, so I'll show you guys what this looks like in Cycles tomorrow :P
More cleanup work done! This time on the gold part of the lettering. Next is the white part, and I want to make some changes to how those show up because the way ProCreate's font tool hollowed out the letters is... I mean, it's good, I'm not sure how it could have done better considering it's a procedural generation based on the outer edge of the character, like there's math and shit involved. But I'm an ~*artist*~ and I'm pretty sure I can make it look better lol
Late art tonight for dealing with life bullshit reasons, but we've added lightning! We also did an animation for it but that's gonna take like 15 minutes to render and I need to go to bed 45 minutes ago sooooooo
Super early tonight but I have writing I want to do and dishes I need to do so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway I had an ideathink. What if... what if Susurrus is gold because he was created by the Power™ the Rheddig Tanta mentioned?
What if Knell, Keen, and Flick, who were not created by that power but were instead created by [fic spoilers] are different, "lesser" metals, because their creators are only making imitations and don't have the full "view" of the Power's designs?
Knell is silver, one of the pure element metals, because she is the closest to that design but still not quite as "perfect" as Susurrus. Keen and Flick, who are bronze and brass respectively, are alloyed metals because they are even further from the Power's vision.
And what if that Power takes control of them, and changes them into his "ultimate design," and in so doing transmutes them into gold as well?
Anyway that was the justification for me going "I bet Knell would be real pretty in gold :)" and proving myself right lol. And yes, I did do the Susurrus birb belt for the recolor on purpose :3
...is it just me, though, or does she look kind of... menacing in gold as compared to silver? Hmm.
Woo, environment is all set up and ready to go! Next part of the tutorial series is making a butterfly, then we're gonna animate a little walk through the forest with the butterfly flying by :)
The birbnado (birb tornado) may not have worked with the rotational symmetry tool as well as the sunburst lines did, but I managed to finagle the tool into working well enough I only have to draw half the birbs instead of the full circle of them :D
"Horizontal rotational symmetry" sounds like absolute bullshit, though :P
