Why you should read Chivalry is Dead

Hello, my friends!  I have been informed it is fanfic author appreciation day, so I’d like to direct your attention towards a fic that you Definitely need to read:  Chivalry is Dead by @imnotcameraready.

It’s got DLAMP!  It’s got Roman angst!  It’s got freaking hilarious narration!

Not convinced?  Dang, tough crowd.  Let’s get specific.

Chivalry is Dead is about Roman, jaded and uselessly pining after the other four, falling into the imagination and splitting himself into several incomplete Romans to see which one is the best version of himself.  The other sides, Not Here For That, pursue him into the fantasy kingdom in a quest to regain their Roman.  Along the way, they befriend the various Romans (except for the Big Bad Roman) and try (and fail) not to fall in love with each other.

Also one of the Romans, The Artist, is my Son and I would lay down my life for him, but that’s not currently relevant.

This story is fantastic in its pacing.  It’s over 137k, and my hypocritical self rarely reads stories longer than 30k.  Never once did I lose interest in the story or find my attention wandering.  I read the whole thing in about two days, and I was shocked by how short it felt.  The entire thing in jam-packed with angst, humor, drama, and an impeccable plot.

The DLAMP romance is an agonizingly beautiful slow burn.  Do you want realistic love scenes?  Natural and believable progression of relationships?  GAY?  You’re going to get it, but you’re going to suffer in the best possible way while you wait for it.

Speaking of progression of relationships, one of the best things about this fic is the enemies to friends to lovers anxceit.  No spoilers, but the way their relationship progresses and they come to first respect then love each other is fantastic.

ALSO THE WHOLE THING IS CHOCK-FULL OF ROMAN APPRECIATION

Oh, and did I mention it’s hilarious?  It deserves reiteration.  Feast your eyes upon these excellent examples:

Deceit was too tired to even have a gay panic, just going limp in Logan’s arms as he muffled some coughs into his hands. 

“If you all paid more attention to the foreshadowing, then you would have seen this coming,” he said.

“Well,” Virgil said, as he and Logan jogged after them, “I don’t know if we’re allowed to break the fourth wall in fan—”

“May I kiss you?” …...Oh? Worm?

“In MY DEFENSE!” his voice grew haughty yet again, “The moon was full and we were left unsupervised!”

Lightning round! - The chapter titles are all Disney songs and I enjoy that. - There’s a masquerade ball, which is my Weakness - KILLER sympathetic Deceit characterization - The main story is currently completed so no worrying about being left hanging - Remus isn’t a part of the main story but there’s a very nice creativitwins dynamic implied
