DP - Vlad the Businessman
Listen, I like muscles on my men as much as the next simp, but Vlad is a businessman.
He is often seen going the easy route & brute forcing things. While it might be true that he trained his ghost powers, specifically mastering things like invisibility, duplication, teleporting, & overshadowing, I don't see him having the dedication or discipline to hardcore train his body & powers beyond what would get him an advantage. Not in the way that certain styles would require anyway.
He's more a sneaky, cheating chess player than a warrior & even then, he seems the type to get impatient & be a sore loser.
As such, as much as I hate to say it, Vlad shouldn't be as much of a beef cake as ya'll have been drawing him as. It's wonderful eye candy & very much appreciated, especially by yours truly, but unrealistic.
Also, keep in mind that most of Vlad's inventions seem to be Fenton ripoffs, so it's actually quite possible that he hadn't ever been to the Ghost Zone before the Fenton Ghost Portal was activated with Danny inside it.
If that's the case, then he would've had no need to really train himself hard until then. After all, all his opponents beforehand would've been human & easily controllable.
I kinda don't think he should've been as powerful as he was in the show. However, because he is, I think that most of his power is due to age. If he's as strong as he is without formal training & few opponents over the course of his time as a halfa, then it explains why Danny is able to catch up with him as quickly as he did without making the kid into some sort of super battle hero prodigy.
Because Danny is constantly in a battle for both his & Amity's continued existence. Over & over, he's attacked & he fights back. This translates to experience. A LOT of experience.
I suspect that Danny will overtake Vlad in power in only a couple of years because of this & he would be super buff as a result.
Like, I definately think that Vlad could've been super powerful, but because of the type of person he is, I don't think he would be.
I mean, he ran his ass away from Vortex & did diddly-shit against Undergrowth.
I remember seeing Promsien with a lot of art featuring this SUPER OP Vlad, but despite what I know their views are, I think all that power would've only reached its potential in Dan specifically because Dan is like Danny in that he fights a lot.
Like, for instance, they make Vlad able to breathe fire & essentially call down meteors to scorch the earth!
Not only that, but I remember somewhere that they think Vlad would be more powerful than Dan at his peak for some reason. I don't agree.
Sure, Vlad has been a halfa for a longer time than Dan has existed, but Dan is a combination of both Danny & Vlad & would've gotten both their memories. So, anything Vlad could do, so should Dan & even stronger because not only did he have Vlad's 20 years worth of memories & experience as a halfa, but he also had Danny's 1-2 years, plus the 10 that Dan lived through himself.
If Vlad had a different personality, then sure! Definitely! I could totally see him pulling that stuff off!
But the thing is. If I'm right in that he didn't have access to the Ghost Zone until then, then much like in one of Promsien's own comics, Vlad likely had no ghostly mentors & probably doesn't know much about managing, let alone using, his own core element beyond trying to suppress it.
This combined with Vlad's personality makes me think that Dan would curbstomp him & likely the only reason Danny won was probably a combination of Dan believing he needed Danny to live in order for Dan to keep existing, underestimating him, making the mistake of playing with his food before eating it, & because Danny surprised him by suddenly using the Ghostly Wail on him.
Otherwise, Dan would've won, easy.

Redesign reference: "Phantom"
Presenting my redesign of Phantom, drawn by the amazingly talented evansdaemon!
Update: they now have a Tumblr @evansdaemon !
So let's get straight to it!
-Rather than getting tanner as Phantom, Danny's skin is a sort of blue gray. It's not as pronounced as Vlad's, but I like the idea of the blue tint being something they have in common.
-Green iris, yellowish scalera.
-My Danny didn't actually go into the portal in hazmat, just his street clothes- so this isn't Phantom's default look, just his ghost busting get up. This is what he looks like when he's not actively superhero-ing. Anyway, Evan did an absolutely wonderful job making it look less skin tight and more hazmat-y. They also seem to have snuck in a little bit of a galaxy pattern and I friggin love it!!
-Danny doesn’t have the logo until he’s established himself as a known vigilante. Sam still designs it for him, but it’s not a sticker, Danny is just able to manipulate his appearance to add it. His hoodie gets a logo change, too.
-A ghost’s appearance is often a reflection of how they view themselves, So once Danny has started taking the superhero thing seriously, he adjusts accordingly, hence the addition of the logo.
-The hazmat also gets padding in the knees and elbows, this is something Danny does subconsciously after fighting ghosts for a while, and it does help minimize injury, to an extent.
-The Fenton phones, along with his thermos and hip holster, are a near constant accessory. They're used to keep in touch with Sam and Tucker during planned patrols.
-As Phantom Danny has glowing green Lichtenberg figures! They’re not visible under most circumstance since they’re mostly centered on his back and arms, and thus covered, but they are there, and can be seen from time to time.
-His ears are tapered/pointy, and prehensile to the extent that he can sorta swivel and twitch them.
-FANGS (“standard” set, sharpened lateral incisors on top row, and canines on the bottom)
-Retractable claws. They grow out a dark green, almost black color. they’re very sharp, and thick, not easily cut, filed, or broken. He’ll eventually wind up making the gloves fingerless because of them.
-Normally, Danny doesn’t have any of these features in human form unless he chooses to, but sometimes they slip out when he’s angry or other wise overwhelmed emotionally.
GHOSTLY ABILITIES:
Going ghost: Might not seem like something of note, just because of how obvious it is, but along with going from human to ghost, The white transformation wings can also be weaponized, as the let out a sort of energy pulse that can repel enemies.
It also fucks with nearby electronics, and causes Tucker So Much Grief.
Ghost sense: Since I decided on swapping Danny's ice powers for electrical ones, the ghost sense is no longer visible as an icy breath. When Danny senses another ghost it’s more in line with a static shock, like when you rub your socks on carpet and then touch a door knob.
Standard ghost powers include; intangibility, invisibility, and flight/levitation. That last one can also be used to walk on walls and ceilings or just glide across the floor like an ice skater.
Danny has two variations of ecto-blasts:
-The first of which is just green ectoplasmic energy, and the second being ecto-energy charged with electricity.
-Danny has the ability to conduct and manipulate electricity due to the nature of how he “died” and the charged ecto-blasts are an extension of that.
Ectoplasmic constructs: shapes made of ectoplasm, usually shields or other barriers, but this ability can also be used to form things temporarily like ropes or weaponry.
Energy reflection and absorption: self explanatory, this is either used in the form or a shield that will redirect an enemy attack, or to absorb the energy from said attack and throw it behind one of his own.
Ghostly wail: Same as in canon, with the addition of being able to interfere with technology, causing massive power outages and effectively frying any electrical appliances.
Echo location: a combination of the ghost sense and aspect of the ghostly wail used to locate another ghosts exact location. Like how a bat uses vibrations.
Voice manipulation: The ability to make his voice echo or sound other-wise distorted.
Telekinesis: why the fuck did we only see him use this power ONCE? to move a fucking rake?? he can levitate shit c’mon. Ya bois part poltergeist.
Exorcism: The ability to knock another ghost out of a possessed person. Due to the fact that Danny has an actual living body he cannot overshadow or posses people….and he himself is still suspectable to possession. He has more of a chance to fight off a ghost than the average person, however. Were Danny to get possessed, his ghost half would get knocked out of his body ala gravity falls sock opera style.
Ghost-tail: When flying at high speeds Danny’s legs shift to a ghostly tail. He can also consciously choose to shift to a tail at any other given time. Although sometimes it just happens when he gets excited. He'll start flicking it around like a cat and he doesn't even realize half the time.
Death throes: Most ghosts have the ability to channel the cause of their death. Danny’s ability to manipulate electricity is an extension of his death thoe. When fully activated he appears as he did in the moment of his “death.” The Hazmat suit takes on inverted colors, and Danny’s body is lit up in an electric green aura, with his skeleton becoming visible. He is highly unstable in this state, as he feels the pain of electrocution the entire time. All of his powers are heightened in this state, and his body crackles with a continuous electrical charge.
Ghost-portal manipulation: Like Wulf, Danny can use his claws to open and close portals into the ghost zone, this is also an extension of his death throe.
Danny has a lot of other less noticeable abilities that he can use in human form:
-Accelerated healing, injuries heal a great deal faster than the average human.
-Enhanced durability, can take hits that would seriously injure the average human being
-Hyper-metabolism
-Enhanced speed, strength, agility, reflexes, stamina, and balance
-In ghost form, A lot of Danny’s bodily functions slow, allowing him to survive for minutes at a time without oxygen, (or even longer, if he's in the Ghost Zone) and for long periods without food, water or sleep.
in human form Danny's powers are limited to invisibility and intangibility. He's too heavy for flight without all the Ectoplasm flooding his body, and while he can form ectoblasts he can't really control them enough do anything but burn his hands.

Do you think Kindred Spirits should've been the season 1 finale? Bitter Reunions, Shades of Gray and Maternal Instict are all set up to Kindred Spirits. Having the episode just be part of season 2 makes no sense. Especially since in season 2 Vlad doesn't really seem to care about having Danny as a son anymore. (That being said The Million Dollar Ghost should've been an Season 2 episode)
I absolutely do not think that, no. Sorry, but there are a number of reasons I think that would’ve been a terrible season 1 finale. Do those episodes contain some setup for Kindred Spirits? Yes, but moving the payoff for that to as early as the season 1 finale would’ve been hella rushed.
For one thing, Valerie’s character already gets the short end of the stick. Shades of Grey and Life Lessons are the only episodes in season 1 that dedicate any time to her at all. I’m not talking about solely episodes that focused on her. These are the only episodes that feature her at all aside from the time she spent as a background character before Shades of Grey. Valerie needs more attention prior to Kindred Spirits because a) that increases the emotional impact of the revelation that Valerie was being used to monitor Danny and b) she is extremely relevant in literally Danielle’s only other episode.
I will begrudgingly admit, Valerie’s kind of a minor point here, but I’m starting with her because she’s one of the characters who would suffer the least for this change.
You could make the argument that moving Kindred Spirits would do something for the plot, but it would destroy Danny as a character. Kindred Spirits taking place that early would see us missing such important development episodes for Danny as: Pirate Radio, Reign Storm, The Ultimate Enemy, Secret Weapons, Flirting With Disaster, and Masters of All Time. Season 1 Danny is still public enemy #1. He hasn’t worked out a lot of his self-loathing or character flaws. He’s still not that great at controlling his powers (and he doesn’t have the ghostly wail, which makes a significant appearance in Kindred Spirits). He hasn’t had the opportunity to mend his familial relationships. He’s met only two ghosts that weren’t enemies (one of which was a very minor character and the other started as an enemy).
While I love Danny, his development in season 1 wouldn’t have left him with much reason to give a single solitary shit about Danielle. He still sees basically all ghosts as evil. He hasn’t had his values challenged much. He’s still more of a fight first talk later kind of kid. Valerie was willing to let Danielle die at first because she was part ghost, and it took Danny some pushing to get her to realize she’d be helping to kill a human girl as well. For Danny, who grew up having it drilled into his head that all ghosts are evil, it’s easy to see why he’d have a similar mentality. He doesn’t even value himself all that much.
Kindred Spirits is originally toward the end of season 2. By then, Danny’s seen how complex ghosts can be. He’s seen that morality isn’t black and white. He’s seen himself go off the deep end. He’s seen Vlad could be redeemed. He’s managed to make friends out of enemies. He’s even fought alongside some of this greatest enemies. He’s grown a lot, and his ability to see Danielle as a person and even accept her as family is a great way to showcase that.
Now let’s talk about Vlad. If we go with your idea of moving Kindred Spirits to the end of season 1 and The Million Dollar Ghost into season 2, that gives us exactly two episodes before Kindred Spirits where Vlad is the main antagonist. People often cite Kindred Spirits as Vlad’s Moral Event Horizon, which I completely agree with. He plans to kill Danny, experiments on and clones him, treats Danielle as a pawn even though she truly loved him as her father, and falls so far into his delusions that he’s essentially replacing Maddie with a hologram and Danny with a clone.
That wouldn’t have any impact if the only episodes we’d spent with him before that were two where his obsession with Maddie is the entire focus of his character. The Million Dollar Ghost needs to be before Kindred Spirits because in this instance, he’s still trying to turn Danny against Jack. He hasn’t given up on making him his son yet. Reign Storm is important because it shows just how manipulative Vlad can be and hints at his greater plans, and it even shows Vlad helping Danny and saving his life. While I have my issues with The Ultimate Enemy, that episode is crucial because it shows that Vlad isn’t completely irredeemable. In a sense, having Kindred Spirits take place after The Ultimate Enemy is a good way of showing contrast. The only way Vlad can be good is if Danny isn’t, and vice versa. It’s also significant to have Vlad’s Moral Event Horizon take place after we’ve seen a world where Vlad was able to realize his mistakes.
I’m also going to throw Secret Weapons in here as an important episode, because that could easily be the last straw for him. Jazz isn’t as important to Vlad as Danny and Maddie, but she’s still Maddie’s child. He was overjoyed at the idea that Jazz abandoned Jack for him, and was willing to adopt her on the spot. Once even Jazz has rejected him and called him a fruit loop to his face, going to such drastic lengths as cloning Danny seems logical for Vlad, especially since we’ve spent so much time getting to know him.
Throwing Danielle in there so early would’ve also been a mistake, unless you planned to rewrite the entire rest of the show so that it included her.
Personally, I would’ve made Reign Storm the season 1 finale. To begin with, it’s the first two part episode, so it’s got the right feel for a season finale. It has the greatest stakes out of any episode up until that point. It’s got almost all the characters from past episodes returning to play at least a small part in the story. It gives significant development to multiple important characters.
Most importantly, it follows up on so much more than just Vlad’s obsession with Danny and experiments. It continues Valerie’s story arc. It gives Vlad more development and shows that there’s more going on with him than just being a creep. It addresses the development Danny, Jazz, Sam, and Tucker have gone through up to that point. The inclusion of Jazz is especially significant.
It’s also the episode where Danny is publicly acknowledged as a hero. His status as public enemy #1 was far more significant in the first season than Vlad was, especially if you only included two episodes in that season where Vlad was the main antagonist. Even when it’s not the main focus, Danny’s bad reputation is addressed in several episodes. I could easily argue that nearly half the episodes of season 1 are at least partially about that.
For my part, I’d much rather have Kindred Spirits show up late in the timeline, when other things have been resolved and the characters have been given enough time for it to pack a punch.
Besides, after episodes like Lucky in Love, Teacher of the Year, and friggin’ Attack of the Killer Garage Sale, Kindred Spirits would’ve felt like a really weird sudden shift in tone. It could be worse, of course. The Ultimate Enemy would’ve made a much more garbage season finale in this respect, but Reign Storm has a good enough balance of fun and intense while not having too much there that can genuinely disturb someone. The image of the melty clone’s eye falling out and dissolving on the floor might be too intense for this early in the show.
You’re more than welcome to disagree, but I can’t see any real benefit to making Kindred Spirits the season 1 finale.
Also, I apologize for the lack of images in this post. I didn’t really have the energy to go get a bunch from all over the course of two seasons.
