i should really finish superstar and nijigaku. i hope liella's rivals step it up in the second season cuz ngl they felt boring in the first. bring some drama and strife into their lives, come on. i mean the liella girlies are more than capable of bringing drama and strife upon themselves tbh but you know. would be nice to have a rival group that's actually threatening and not buddy-buddy offstage for once. i have smatterings of an idea of what might happen in the second season of nijigaku from ppl talking about the story from what i assume is the game since season two wasn't out yet at the time. but idk if it actually will be that, or if it's a different story entirely.
just gonna rant real quick. i dropped the game like a hot potato because of how un-f2p friendly it was. if you can only progress if you have specific 5 stars even though you already have a handful of 5 stars and you can only get the good 5 stars through gacha, then that's bs and fuck that. i didn't just want fes setsuna. i NEEDED fes setsuna. i literally could not get past intermediate difficulty no matter how built my existing cards were. it was very much voltage or die. and the fact that fes setsuna was the only good card that wasn't the "standard" line or whatever the hell it was called that i had even the slightest chance of getting because it was the only one that could ever get a rate-up, and that it was literally impossible for me to get to "pity" with my f2p savings, and that if i didn't get it from that specific banner there was literally no way i could guarantee getting it ever even if i whaled? fucking hate it. but even that wouldn't have been enough to make me drop the game. the true nail in the coffin was the event 5 stars being utterly useless. they're so weak that some 4 stars outclass them. and what's the fucking point of grinding my ass off for event 5 stars if they're not going to be stronger than the 4 stars i already have.
maybe the gacha system's changed for the better since then. maybe event 5 stars are actually worth grinding for now. maybe they even lowered the voltage requirements to successfully clear songs. it's been a year or two at this point since i last played. but unless someone bonks me in the head and says explicitly that these specific issues i have with the game are no longer there, i'm never touching the game again. fuck sifas.

Hey i want to say something in regards with mihoyo and the anniversary fiasco. English isn't my first language so. Sorry about that.
I'm seeing people on social media trying to defend mihoyo. The first type are the ones who say "gachas are gachas, you're the ones to blame for having expectations!" To which I say: just because you got used to something bad, doesn't mean it stopped being bad. Yes. I've played many, many gacha games in the past (Been an avid fan of rhythm games since I was a kid) but I've never defended the system. If people want to critique something bad, don't blame them. Specially if you know they're right but just “too weak to accept it.”
But these people,,, they don't bother me as much as the bootlickers. The people defending mihoyo saying we are at fault for being greedy. What those people are forgetting is that this isn't only about the rewards: this is about handling everything bad and then hiding behind the curtain until people eventually forget about it.
(mild spoilers for Inazuma here) First, there was Ei's quest problem and how they butchered a character for money's sake. Which. Not too much of a problem. Okay. I'm sure a lot of people liked the quest and loved Ei and that's cool. But there was a fuss, and mhy hide behind the curtain.
But then, there she comes. Kokomi. Now, let me be clear as the water that comes down from the mountains: I don't give one single shit about meta. The problems I find in her character are more related to general characterization than to her kit. I don't care. This isn't me defending the "meta slaves" or whatever, but pointing out that even if her baner is the worst seller in the game's history (don't know if worse than Keqing), they still haven't adressed it, and don't plan to "fix" the character any time soon.
And finally, the anniversary rewards. Which didn't start about the rewards at all but in the means mihoyo was using to give those rewards. Which is basically: you work for us and give us your money and time and maybe you'll have a chance to win something. I kindly remind you that content creators in fandoms already give a lot of things for free. They are the BACKBONE of any fandom. Treating your general player base wrong is one thing (a bad one) but also treating bad the creators who give you millions by free promotion with their work is just plain stupid.
And after all that, when people FINALLY start complaining seriously you not only hide behind the curtain but also censored all ways for those people to be able to express their frustrations. That's just evil, if you mind me.
Because we're not talking about an indie low budget company. We're talking about a billionaire company. There is a team of rich dudes behind Paimon's voice who made the conscientious choice of doing this shit because companies keep getting away with it (the contests, the unpaid labor) all the time.
Do you really think bad ratings in android have made them break a sweat???? No! They're fine! I can assure you you don't have to worry about millionaires. Instead, why don't you stop calling genshin's playerbase greedy and support creators who spend time, money and work into giving us content constantly? Stop trying to gaslight people into thinking that we asked too much from the beginning, because what we asked for it's nothing in comparison of what we give.
(by the way, this isn't an excuse for people to be disgustingly racist at mhy and its devs. Nothing is an excuse to be fucking racist. Stop behaving like assholes and focus on the real problem.)

Something about Genshin Impact that legitimately angers me, and something that nobody seems to talk about, is how new Five Stars are handled.
In that EVERY SINGLE ONE of them is Event-locked. You can’t pull them from the permanent wish gacha. You HAVE to get them when their banner is active and hope to god that that banner will eventually return.
(More under the cut)
Event-locking in itself isn’t an inherently terrible thing in gacha-games. Having specific units be limited encourages users to spend money for those units when they arrive, and some units make sense to be locked to a specific time-frame. Seasonal units, for example, are generally reserved for whatever holiday the game is celebrating. It’d be weird to get a unit in a bikini in the middle of winter.
Again though- the key word is SOME units. Not fucking all of them.
What’s even more concerning is that very few of these characters are justified in being event-locked. Of every character released the only two who I would consider worthy of event locking are Vernti and Zhongli, and that’s because they are literal gods. Ganyu being event exclusive is jarring when you remember Ningguang and Keqing, her coworkers who have more story relevance than her are permanent. Xiao’s impact on the story is important but relatively minimal. Childe you could maybe get away with given his role in the plot as the arc villain of Liyue, but you could still argue him being worthy of being permanent. And than you have Klee, Albedo and Hu Tao, who have literally NO presence in the main story, but are event locked anyway.
At the time of writing this two characters (to my memory) have been added to the permanent gacha after their debut on a banner. However, not only were these characters both 4 star units, they are also units that are outclassed by different characters. This means that since launch the permanent banner has remained relatively stagnant as several new units have come and gone. The point of a permanent gacha is that it has everyone in it that a person can pull. That you can invest into it and still get something good out of it in time. The way pity works means that occasionally you toss in a 10 pull and eventually you’ll get a five star.
Powercreep is inevitable in gacha games (there’s a point to this I promise). New units get added with fancy abilities that far outclass the old units with better stats and all that. That’s just how it goes. If the permanent banner never updates with new 5 stars than it’ll eventually become useless. None of the units in there will be worth pulling when that fancy event banner has something thats usable in the latest unbeatable spiral abysss floor. And that’s probably the point of why they’re doing this to begin with, because that gets them more money.
So if by some miracle you made it this far you may be wondering. “Ok why should I care? I can just pull on the limited banners”
Here’s the thing- Genshin’s gacha system is intentionally predatory. Pity or no pity a less than 1% chance of getting a five star item is too low for even gacha standards. The fact that there’s no guarantee of even getting an actual unit means that 10 pulls can be waisted on weapons you may never use (or have a character worthy of using them) which puts players who cannot or choose not to spend money on the game at a huge disadvantage. I know gacha games are meant to encourage you to spend money, but if that’s not ok in Fate g/o or Fire Emblem Heroes than it’s not ok in a system that actively works against you. Burnout due to shit luck will happen if players aren’t given some glimmer of hope to hold on to. Making it so the permanent gacha essentially never updates removes that hope because the rewards will eventually no longer be worth it. That’s inherently predatory. “But pity!” You may shout, and you’d be right, but reaching pity requires 14,400 gems. That takes ages to save up.
The other reason you should care- We don’t know if or when these characters will be released again. A common joke among Venti fans is that everyone is still waiting for his return with no clue as to when or if he’ll actually return. You can pull on the event banners to escape powercreep, but if you actually want a character but can’t get them on their banner you’re shit outta luck until a rerun that may never happen. The same people who joke about Venti’s limbo also have to acknowledge that he might never show up again.
I know that this game is in its infancy, and I hope that I’ll be proven wrong, that 5 star characters will be put in the permanent gacha and my fears will be unjustified, but as it stands from what I’m seeing this game is actually preying on people with this system of event locking everyone. That’s not something we should be ignoring.
