WELCOME TO THE SHORE

Hiddenclan are situated on a beach and have taken haven in an old shipwreck. They've been recently dumped on the remote island with no twolegs in sight but other clans have been spotted; none of them want to be too close to the shore, so they keep their distance.

Updates will be drawn in comic form and clangen will come up with most events but there will still be an underlying story/premise.

All art related posts will be tagged with #hiddenart, updates will be tagged also with #hiddenmoons, and asks with art will be additionally tagged #hiddenanswers. Text only answers will be tagged with #hiddentext and nothing else. This is for convenience of looking at the posts you want and blacklisting

Certain cats are owned by friends. Honeypaw and Thistleskip are owned by @turnaboutsisterz , Softtail is owned by @roobjoshi and Peachwish and Websight are owned by @stargloom! What happens on this blog with these characters should not be taken as canon with them specifically as this is my own clangen story, isolated from anything else

but YEAH little reveal time. Honeykit has the Ghost Sense skill! i think for her it's just not a big deal at all--some cats are ghosts, some cats aren't, and that's that. probably after she figured out she was the only one who could see the ghosts, she doesn't tell anyone about them, but that doesn't mean she doesn't like to spend time with her grandparents regardless. if grandma can't talk, getting grandpa to talk about her is the next best thing

Boulderstep needed to get out of camp. Grief had wrapped its thorny maw around FallenClan, letting its tendrils stretch across every nook and cranny.

Earlier this moon, it had been Queenie. Then Owlscreech. Now Maplestar. Kind, generous Maplestar, who had offered Boulderstep a home. What if Cherrydust wasn't so understanding? Perhaps she would decide that a former ShallowClan cat couldn't be trusted.

Truthfully, Boulderstep knew these thoughts were unfounded. Cherrydust had been nothing but cordial towards him; she had no reason to chase him out.

That didn't help his nerves. Nor did Poppyfeather's impassive gaze, which seemed to trail after him far too often. It was clear she didn't trust him (or any cat outside of FallenClan, for that matter), but it was made worse knowing that she was the cat whose unforgiving fangs had snapped Fernshadow's leg-bone clean in two, leaving the tom to limp back to ShallowClan's camp. He had still been confined in the medicine den when Boulderstep left, and for all he knew, was still there.

Grimacing, Boulderstep slipped out of camp. It was easy, given the oppressive grief clouding everyone's mind.

He didn't need to turn to know Thistleskip was following him. Not wanting to go too far in case his clanmates ended up needing him, Boulderstep sat down about a minute's walk away from camp, Thistleskip shortly joining him.

"Did you want to talk?" Boulderstep questioned, catching Thistleskip off guard.

"Oh, I--Uh. Sure. I guess I thought it would be proper to leave the cats who knew Maplestar best to their grief."

"Yeah." Boulderstep hummed thoughtfully. "Do you ever regret joining FallenClan?"

Thistleskip's whiskers twitched in that endearing way of hers, a sign that she was carefully considering her answer. "No," she spoke slowly. "I was meant to be here. FallenClan is my home."

"How can you be so sure?" Boulderstep frowned. As much as he loved FallenClan, as much as he was grateful to FallenClan, he still didn't know if FallenClan would ever really feel like home. (Home was ShallowClan. ShallowClan that betrayed him. That raised him with teeth and claws. Where Thistleheart, his best friend, was waiting. Home was nowhere.)

"Well, for the longest time I thought my housefolk's den was my home. I still remember when my housefolk's paws first scooped me up. It was the last time I ever saw my mum." Thistleskip tipped her head sideways. "I don't think about it often."

Boulderstep rested his tail against Thistleskip's, a silent gesture of acknowledgement, comfort. It occurred to him how different they were, yet also how similar. His fur, smooth and silky, brushing against hers, spiky and bristled. Boulderstep was suddenly very nervous.

Thistleskip continued. "Then I got sick, and my housefolk didn't want a sick kit. They threw me out." Her shoulders stiffened slightly. "I wandered for days, delirious and dying. I would have died, but the stars led me here."

Boulderstep blinked. "What?"

"The stars," Thistleskip repeated firmly. "A cat with stars in her pelt showed me the way. She spoke so softly to me, encouraging me. She said everything would be okay, and she was right."

"What did she look like?"

"Her pelt was white with black splotches. I remember it so distinctly, despite how out of it I was at the time."

A mixture of disbelief and incredulity was working its way through Boulderstep's system. StarClan had led Thistleskip to FallenClan? Where had StarClan been when Boulderstep needed help? When ShallowClan needed guidance?

Thistleskip's ears flattened, abruptly whisking her tail away from Boulderstep's. "I've seen them, these spirits, my entire life. I didn't have a name for them before FallenClan. I didn't even know they weren't living cats until then."

"And why is StarClan so interested in you?" It came out way sharper than Boulderstep intended, and Thistleskip seemed to wall herself off, gaze becoming stony. "Sorry, I just---StarClan is a sore spot for me. It's not that I don't believe you, I promise. This is just. . . surprising."

Thistleskip sniffed, looking away. Tentatively, Boulderstep continued, "Have you talked to Silverbelly about this?"

"No," Thistleskip muttered. At least she was still hanging around, still talking to him, rather than storming off. Ravenspot had always stormed off. ("Stop embarassing me, Boulderpaw. What kind of son contradicts his own mother in front of their clan's leader?")

"Maybe you should."

"I've talked to Eaglestripe about it briefly. They seemed really intrigued, and wanted to talk to Silverbelly about it. Then this whole," she paused, "moon of misfortunes happened. It got pushed aside."

"But what if it is important?" Boulderstep pressed, suddenly growing excited. "FallenClan has been short on medicine cats for moons. Even with Shrewpaw's apprenticeship, FallenClan could still use more medicine cats. What if StarClan sent you here for a reason? What if the reason they talk to you or--or send you signs or whatever is because they want you to be a medicine cat?"

"Me?" Thistleskip's eyes widened. She seemed oddly flustered. "I don't know anything about herbs."

"You could learn. You're really good at figuring things out. I remember when you first joined, you couldn't tell a mouse's scent from a thrush. Now you're one of the finest hunters in the clan! Aside from me, of course," Boulderstep teased, hoping to lighten the mood. Hard to do, given the circumstances, but he tried anyway. He didn't like seeing Thistleskip unhappy.

"You're being generous about my hunting skills." Thistleskip ducked her head, averting her gaze. Still, Boulderstep could make out the tiniest quirk of Thistleskip's maw, indicating she was pleased to be thought of so highly. "Now is a bad time, with everything going on. Still, I'll. . . think about it. See what Silverbelly thinks. Perhaps nothing will come of it."

"Perhaps." Boulderstep shrugged.

"Should we head back to camp now?"

"No," Boulderstep blurted. "I mean, ah. Do you want to go for a walk? We could check along trail near the star-pool for thyme."

"Thyme doesn't grow near water."

"I thought you didn't know anything about herbs?" Boulderstep rose a brow quisitively.

"I chew thyme sometimes. To help with my nerves." Oh. "We can see what herbs we can find anyway. I'm sure the medicine cats would appreciate any extra leaves we can find."

Boulderstep let out a relieved exhale. She didn't say no! Perhaps they could even go swimming, or chase butterflies, or do anything except rot in camp while their clanmates mourned. While Boulderstep pretended not to mourn the cat who had given him a chance.

"Come on, then." Thistleskip smiled softly. It was a smile that could melt a thousand glaciers.

It melted Boulderstep, too.
