ofc its bulma!!! (i could also put vegeta here but as you said yourself he is THE meow meow so until later bestie) shes so epic i love that she and goku meet as kids and even as a young air head teen its established that shes extremely bright and innovative. despite being a genuis shes never the "quite nice girl" she always just speaks her mind big win for women

also every bulma outfit/style ever slaps so hard she never misses and never shows up w/o being dressed to nines even w a baby in her hand (my personal fav is the big hair red stripped dress of the trunks arc)

like all other women in db she got hardcore nerfed after becoming a mom but she got it a little better than chi chi bc at least she can have some plot relevance for technical stuff but still T_T can we get a working milf in here PLS the kids are off fighting after age 2 anyways

i will touch on this later more but my GOD the power the bulma vegeta marriage has in comedy alone one of the funniest things in anime ever i was just explaining it to the bestie earlier<3

also not to bring up a whole other timeline but FUTURE BULMA wahh the way she kept on going w a little kid when all of her friends and family were dead and build the time machine that saves the earth and puts her son into knowing if he manages to change the future this version of her will cease to exist or he will die in the past and she will never see her child again damned to survive the end of the world all by herself knowing she send her own son to his death TORIYAMA u didnt need to go this hard tears im my eyes just thinking about it wahhhh

i would have to say puar or chiaotzu.....i love that theyre just little guys and fiercly loyal to their besties they both also started out doing crimes and being evil for fun until they decided to be good actually so theyre quite similar in that way

TEENAGE GOHAN hes soooo funny he saved the earth and then was just like ok time to return to school :) and then he has to use his superpowers but only in situations where he has no other choice and hes always in a hurry bc he cant be late for school! he wears bulmas lame ass superhero outfit w/o shame bc his sense of style is 10 years behind and calls himself the great saiya man so no one will recognize him as anything abnormal meanwhile he rides on a cloud to school every single day

on a more emotional note he had to help raise goten bc goku died before he was born....hes such a good older brother remember the episode where hes training and is like hey goten wanna throw rocks at me :} ? and goten almost kills him bc he doesnt know how the count down from 3 thing works anything wah wah wah wah siblings i very much enjoy thinking about^^

also he dabbed in the 90s before it was cool or uncool .... unbothered king....

glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)

shes an obscure fave in dbz only bc TORIYAMA FORGOT ABOUT HER but LAUNCH so epic so epic (i know shes supposed to be a funny take on "split personality" women but lol my city now) anyways she was so cool her design slaped and the ambush the enemy by sneezing and getting violent was always funny^^ also i thought she and tien were very sweet:) and i think there was a storyline where she wanted to get to the bottom of her condition and learn to be more controlled about it too? (iirc tho)

also gt only so this is a bit obscure but hes so WIPPED for his daugther (i think hes also making up for missing most of trunks childhood) the episode where she disses his cursed mustache and he IMMEDIATLY shaves and goes through the house waiting for ppl to compliment him on it OK WORSTIE

on a more serious note vegeta orgin story MY GOD. being fully aware when his planet was blown up that being taking in and working for the guy who did dude he was like 6 wah wah wah i know its been memed to death but the namek saga scene where hes deadly wounded and PLEADS goku to kill freeza for their people MAN.

also bonus german dub tidbit but SPONGEBOB VA VEGETA i think they did it bc he sounds similar to the french one? anyways we have this cursed combo intil after the first goku vs vegeta fight iirc

messy disorganized rant

While I appreciate that Trunks and Goten aren’t as burdened with the stress and trauma of having to save the world like Gohan was, I resent that they’ve been seemingly forgotten as fighters. I liked DB much better when it still carried a “pass the torch on to the next generation” message instead of the inevitable and constant Goku and Vegeta glory.

First of all, they were clearly built up to take on the role of earth’s warriors. Gohan was too, but he was guided with a passion for justice (his numerous outbursts and The Great Saiyaman) and was overall a peaceful bookworm.

Meanwhile, Trunks’ and Goten had passion for fighting. Their favorite playtime activity was fighting “all the time.” They probably turned super saiyan during these games (also the fact that Gohan and Vegeta are surprised they can turn super indicates they really haven’t been paying attention to the kids).

Gohan even worries internally to himself that they’re going to surpass him - and Toriyama himself confirms that Goten’s potential is equal to Gohan’s.

I mean, just look at this sequence from Goten during his tournament fight!! He’s such a natural!

Trunks (w/Goten as his more reluctant accomplice) literally KO a man and take his disguise so they can fight with the adults - that’s how much they hungered for a real fight.

They’re beyond eager to be at a scene of battle.

And then again, even after they know how deadly and powerful Majin Buu is.

Trunks and Goten were literally prodigies. They were the youngest ones to go super saiyans, learned the fusion technique from just watching it twice, created multiple, complicated, showy techniques for their fusion in only a week, and achieved super saiyan 3 after having only felt it once.

Like, they did that in a week!! Imagine if they spent a fucking year in there!! Not even a year, a month!

(A relevant side note: Gotenks. Modern DB never has Trunks and/or Goten as an independent fighter anymore, it’s always Gotenks. I choose to interpret it as some kind of coping mechanism, where they don’t want to fight without each other bc if one of them is going down, they’re both going down, but honestly I think it’s because none of the writers want to develop them. They can’t be bothered to develop Trunks and/or Goten as real fighters independent of the other, and so they use Gotenks as a cop out.)

And YET, instead of having their strong interest in fighting nurtured and encouraged by their newly available (emotionally available for Trunks) saiyan fathers in the form of training, instead of continuing training/fighting as they already had in peace time bc they simply loved it so much (unlike Gohan), instead of continuing fighting as they were impressed upon the importance of having to be strong lest another powerful enemy like Majin Buu appears, they… completely lost all interest in fighting.

Goten’s hobbies have simply become Dating Girls and Trunks’… well, at most, EoZ hints at machinery for him. And that’s all there is to them now, since Toriyama wrote them into this corner. GT followed this and Super will too, most likely.

Their apparent laziness and lack of training stretches so far, in the anime, Goten loses against a 4 year old who counts flying across the planet by themselves as an accomplishment. Now, I have no problem with Pan being able to beat him in a fight… but not at 4! They’re really trying to sell that Goten, again, prodigy in his own right and youngest ssj ever, is so out of touch and incompetent with fighting (again, an earlier natural talent of his), that he would lose to someone that just got out of their toddler years?? He was literally seen training with his father before the tournament!! Again, I could accept that Pan could defeat him in a fight, but only when she’s older and much more trained. I know it’s just supposed to be another joke, but it’s just soooo annoying how much they keep nerfing him.

Like, if anything, Goten should have had motivation to keep up with his training as his world opens up. Having a fit, muscular body is almost always a plus when you’re dating! As evidenced by Gohan in the Saiyaman saga and the Buu saga, their bodies lose muscle mass when they don’t train. But noooo, he can only have one hobby and one hobby only and that’s Dating Girls. It’s mentioned in some extra source that he also likes bikes, but there’s literally no evidence of that. Not in EoZ, not in GT, and not yet in Super. It’s all just Dating Girls.

Trunks and Goten were set up so perfectly there, excited about fighting unlike Gohan, and then they apparently just lost all interest. Then the next fighters set up are Pan and Uub… who also are then also pushed to the side in GT bc of Goku and Vegeta.

Tbh (and I could be incredibly off base w/this), I think a part of why Trunks and Goten were shoved to the side in EoZ was bc Toriyama was just so sick of the story at that point. I mean, I can empathize, it’d been, what, like a whole decade straight of working on this and he wanted to move on and so he wrote them off as lazy slackers instead of developing them more, leaving Pan and Uub instead as the new potentials that he didn’t have to go into at all.... Like,,,, there’s not that much difference between 7 year old Goten excited to train with Gohan and potentially beating Trunks and 4 year old Pan proud of flying across the planet by herself and training with her grandpa.

One thing I loved about earlier DB was that it didn’t matter how powerful you were born, what mattered was how hard you worked. The Goku vs Vegeta fight (Saiyan Saga) and Freeza vs Goku fight seem like the most obvious culminations of that. But it looks like no one will ever get the chance to shine bc of Goku and Vegeta, even though Trunks, Goten, and Pan all enjoyed training and fighting. I don’t keep up with Super, but from what I know, it seems like Gohan is training more(?) and that it’s like a good character arc for him and I appreciate that, but again... Trunks/Goten have so much more passion for it and can completely match Gohan in power.

Like, I’m not saying Trunks and Goten are capable as characters to be a perfect replacement for Vegeta and Goku’s role in the series (they liked fighting, but not to the extent of all day every day like their fathers), but I think they should have a much larger part as fighters than they do now. Honestly, they should at least be shown in SSJ 2 by now, considering they achieved SSJ like it was nothing. I mean, Goten even forgot when he did it for the first time, that’s how minor the achievement was for him.

Goku and Vegeta are the moneymakers, at this point I have little hope that the spotlight is ever going to turn away from them. No offense to Super fans, but they’re just Stupid strong in there now. All the transformations are just so meaningless and boring to me at this point because the power scaling is so fucked and there’s never any real stakes anymore. No main character dies and Goku always wins.

BIG SIGH.

In MY writing/personal hc, Goten keeps up with his training and achieves a decent balance between that and general life. Trunks too, once he figures out a healthier work situation. And in terms of sheer power (level), neither of them is stronger than the other for long, it’s all a minor difference and it just keeps switching. None of Vegeta’s angsty ughhh Kakarot’s forever stronger than me, nope. And personally, I think it’d be best if all the half saiyans + Pan were all equal in power potential and the Strongest is only by a bit and the title is constantly changing hands. Saiyans don’t have a power cap anyway, so why should any of them have it? Again, it doesn’t matter how strong any of them were born, what matters is how hard they worked. Therefore whoever works out the least would be the weakest... and I can’t see Trunks/Goten/Pan not working out at least once a week.
