Trust, Pray, Obey (re-worked cult verse)
there is nothing remotely ALDER left.
from faith, to john, and finally to jacob, the ex deputy’s resolve has been crushed to absolutely nothing. ground into the dirt until there was nothing human left behind. he had been made to be a soldier at first; made to listen to every word, every demand with an expression that left nothing for the imagination.
in this, it’s rare to catch alder speaking. the look in his eyes is always distant, staring off into nothing until an order is given. he must hold back and conceal every flinch when hands reach towards him; alder learns to fear touch, even ones that bring no harm. even still, when touched, he knows better than to try and RIP himself away from whatever hold he finds himself in. the last time that he had, the deputy had found himself in more pain than he knew what to do with.
still, he is not fed. still, he feels as though he’s slowly withering away, only kept alive by the good grace of joseph whenever he visits or when jacob deems him WORTHY enough to eat. still, however, alder is pliant. alder will do what is asked of him.
and he won’t QUESTION ANYTHING.

                                   ♛ ¦  FAR CRY 5 VERSE  ❜
                                                       Ajay Ghale
                                           TRUST.                                                              PRAY.                                                                               OBEY.
HOPE COUNTY, MONTANA. Ajay decided to leave Kyrat and everyone in this hopeless country behind. He kinda felt bad for it a little while. But he also felt relieved. All the burden on his shoulder, it was gone. To him, MOHAN didn’t exist anymore and ISHWARI finally found peace. That was all that mattered. BUT WHAT NEXT?
Together with HURK he was smuggled out of the country. There was no place to go for him, though. Nothing felt like home anymore. So he decided to follow his companion to HOPE COUNTY. It did sound like a good idea. A peaceful place, away from the war. He finally got some time to rest, some time to find himself again.
The  PROJECT AT EDENS GATE was something he wasn’t prepared for. He noticed them when he first arrived, still he didn’t take much interest in the Cult and its activities. He was sure, if he kept himself out of their business, he wouldn’t have any problems with them. Little did he know that this was NOT an option.
Eventually, there was no place to hide. The cult was EVERYWHERE. So Ajay joined the RESISTANCE, trying to avoid the worst. He was able to look after himself but it was tiring him out. He already fought his way through Kyrat, he wasn’t able to find his way back to his old self with a gun in his hands. All he wanted was some rest.
It was only a matter of time until they got him. The whitetail mountains were no safe place for him. They got him, they got his mind. JACOB SEED was the man behind all this. Ajay found a new fear inside of him. He didn’t want to die in a place like this. He was done with fighting. All he had to do to survive was to OBEY.

✨after his conditioning took hold of him, alder has truly become a man who is far more capable of appearing emotionless than he really feels. he’s gotten to the point where he will do anything that jacob asks of him before the herald even asks it. alder is now quick to lash out should another one of jacob’s chosen mock him and he has killed a few of them when they couldn’t learn to keep their damn MOUTHS SHUT.
✨the music box is definitely used as a threat. even if it’s not directed towards him, alder will still  flinch at the sight of it. only you engrained itself pretty easily into his head, but it still takes a bit before he falls completely under the conditioning effects. and those seconds HURT. alder still subconsciously FIGHTS against the conditioning, even if he doesn’t mean to and with his inner struggle, those seconds always end with excruciating pain on the ex deputy’s side. jacob doesn’t have to punish him for resisting it though. alder does it to himself by CRACKING his skull into the nearest solid surface in an attempt to make the pain stop. he’ll keep it up until he’s bloody but under the conditioning effects or until he’s managed to knock himself unconscious.
✨his health is pretty poor weight-wise. alder doesn’t eat nearly as much as the men and women that make up jacob’s chosen but that’s because he’s on a sort of fixed amount. alder makes due regardless; whenever he can, he gets outside the veteran’s center walls and hunts by himself. it hasn’t gotten to the point where he feels like he can steal it from the kitchens and he isn’t stupid enough to try it anyways.
✨alder has TECHNICALLY two items from his unconditioned life. jacob has allowed him to keep the photo of his wife and son but he also has his record player. when the nights are quiet every once in awhile, he’ll put a vinyl on and let himself get lost in the songs. alder has his record player set up in jacob’s planning room though, since he doesn’t have his own room and it’s the only place alder runs off to when he isn’t needed. jacob has found him numerous times hiding out in there, listening to shep fields or patti page and being just about ready to pass out from exhaustion.
✨jacob doesn’t take him outside the veteran’s centers walls all too much. while alder is at the point of doing whatever the herald asks, there’s a part of the oldest seed that believes that there’s still a small bit of rebellion inside the former deputy. and, well, he isn’t wrong. alder has kept that part of him safe and shielded, wanting to believe that there is still some shred of goodness within him. something that jacob couldn’t break.  so he guards it by listening to whatever the herald makes him do.

He doesn’t like to travel back to Holland Valley. Doesn’t like the trip, the cause, who lives there, anything the INVOLVED John Seed felt like a POISON festering in his lungs threatening to OFF HIM if he so much took a step out of line. Alder started keeping to the back, kept his head down out HIMSELF out of the way in case John caught sight of him.
He didn’t want ANY of his scars reopened, thank you.
Jacob let him get away with staying OUT of the bunker today. The ex Deputy found a nice perch above it, shoulders slumped over as he eyes the angels neandering around, grooming the grass and bushes around the bunker. He’s glad he didn’t end up like them. Glad that he still had the MEMORIES that made him who he once was. It was comfort. Made Alder think that it COULD GET BETTER if he gave himself enough time and DISTANCED himself with the eldest Seed.
Don’t hold your breath.
Tumblr media
Joey was here though. She kept her distance as well. Hasn’t looked at him since John shipped him off to Jacob. He wanted to think that she still WORRIED about him. But Alder wasn’t so SURE anymore.

Alder’s Expanded Cult Verse
Tumblr media
(0)Once Alder falls into Jacob’s hands....things get really bad. The training is constant, unending, painful, torturous. Rarely is he fed, his visits with Staci are short, water comes barely ever. But the training works. Jacob forces his way into Alder’s head and warps him into the perfect soldier he’s needed.
(0)Obviously, Alder falls into the hunter category after this, considering he always has a bow/slingshot on him. Unfortunately for the Whitetail Militia, he’s relentless. And Alder doesn’t AIM to capture anybody when Jacob sends him out.
(0)Although, as much as Jacob tried, he couldn’t quite get rid of EVERYTHING that made Alder who he was. When around the presence of the Judges, them all excited to see him, the ex deputy can’t help but give them the attention they want. It’s the very same thing when he’s around Staci. He’s back to being Alder, goofing off and trying to wring a few smiles out of his friend. It’s like Alder never even LEFT....that is...until Jacob steps into the area.
(0)He has Judges. They follow him around the Veteran’s Center and he doesn’t mind in the slightest. Move aside Jacob, Alder’s the favorite now.
(0)Eli....doesn’t live long. Nor does Tammy. Once Alder gains their trust he moves in and goes for the kill the first chance he gets. And there’s no hesitation on Alder’s part...until Wheaty steps into the picture. But that’s only until the rest of Jacob’s soldiers move in and take everyone hostage.

Jacob left him alone. Alone with a wolfdog sitting at his heels protectively, baring its teeth at anyone who dared approach the hunter. But with the man now gone, Alder had been left alone in the middle of Joseph’s Compound surrounded by people who had tried to KILL HIM in that helicopter crash when they first showed up. None of them approached him, which Alder was grateful for and when he heard Jacob YELLING for him across the compound, Alder went.
And again, the hound followed.
Jacob stepped out of the church just as he arrived, and Alder sent him a curious look. The hound’s tail kicked up only SLIGHTLY at the sight of him, but the Herald didn’t give her the time of day as he gestured with his head for the ex deputy to step inside. Alder sends him a confused and near worried look. But he does anyways.
Tumblr media
“You uh.....” Alder doesn’t know what to say when the door closes behind him. Joseph stands inside the church, the exact same place where Alder had SLAPPED the handcuffs on him and led him outside. “You wanted to talk to me...?”

✨It’s a dance, their quarrels. John snaps at Alder for doing something he doesn’t like, Alder doesn’t reply back, John sends a bunch of men to capture him, and Alder escapes. It’s a constant, unending battle between them. And Alder recognizes this. But, he isn’t willing to CHANGE it just yet because he knows John is trying to listen to his brother’s orders. He’s trying to not KILL him. So Alder’s milking it right now.
✨Before Alder liberated John’s Ranch (he did it sometime after John kidnapped him the second time) Alder snuck in to steal back Nick’s plane and, in turn, he left behind folded bits of paper in nearly every goddamn room. They’re pieces of extra origami that he had found in his own house when his wife was alive, since she took up folding paper as a hobby. For John, though, it’s a calling card to say that “haha I’ve been in every room and touched EVERYTHING.”
✨(Cult Verse) After John, Alder goes to Jacob and then finally Joseph. He’s kept at Joseph’s compound at all times, under strict watch. As it turns out, after his being unable to make Alder break, John turns out to be one of Alder’s number one VISITORS. He ignores John for the most part, whether it’s whittling, reading, or some other useless hobby he’s picked up because he’s so BORED…until John thinks it’s time to bring his SINS back to the surface.
✨(Cult Verse) Even when he’s at Joseph’s Compound, Alder STILL teases John. He’ll act quiet and reserved when around the rest of the Family but be HIMSELF with John.....because he wants to make it seem to the youngest brother that he isn’t entirely BROKEN as everyone thinks he is. And when John tries to tell Joseph? The real question is....do they believe him?

Always keeping out of reach. He made sure to. When people approached, he glared and managed to RESIST the urge to bare his TEETH like the animal Jacob made him become. He was a hunter among the ranks, but a prisoner in his own mind. Mind and soul. Alder hated it. He didn’t want to BE HERE anymore but Staci was here and Staci was in danger of DEATH now that Alder was under Jacob’s heel.
Keeping to the roof of the Veteran’s Center, Alder sat perched up there, watching the Chosen down below. If he listened hard enough, he could HEAR the people begging to be released and the BITING remarks the men here snapped back at them.
In other cages, the WOLVES were finally being fed; teeth tore through the bloodied corpses of those who were deemed TOO WEAK.
Tumblr media
He could leave. It’d be so easy to. But Staci....but Staci....Alder could hear him talking to Jacob in the office below. Their voices are quiet and there’s a third party. He doesn’t BOTHER checking who it was standing in there.
HE DIDN’T CARE.

Two or three months....he’s lost count by now. He’s tired, quiet, keeps to himself when he believes that no one is watching. They rarely do anymore. His purpose, they laugh, is one thing and one thing only. Jacob doesn’t think he’s ready. HE doesn’t believe he’s ready. The deputy doesn’t want to BE ready. But he must. He needs to be. He HAS to be if certain people want to stay alive.
Coy grins.
KNIVES too close to vulnerable throats.
John Seed’s laugh echoing in his ears, threatening him. FORCING him to submit to the conditioning as it CLAWED its way into his bed, nesting there like a PARASITE.
He’s hiding on top of the cages, attentive ears listening to the pleading of the prisoners, the SNAPPING of sharp teeth as wolves tried to tear each other apart. John was visiting. Perhaps a few more of the Heralds as well. A FAMILY MEETING Alder was convinced it was. He could feel their eyes on him every now and then. Alder still remained silent. He still watched them, keeping his distance.
Wait....

One was MISSING.

They bleed. They ache.
HE WANTS TO DIE.
The knife is still through his hand, the youngest Herald making NO MOVES to remove it anytime soon. The pain in his back, his arm, his CHEST keeps him from demanding it. Envy. Pride. Wrath. All SINS that John had diagnosed him with. All SINS that had been painfully carved into him with the very blade that had been stabbed through his hand.
Each breath comes out RAGGEDLY through his lips, forcing his hand to stay still to keep the blade from shifting. John can be heard from his right, busying himself with reorganizing his table. He was humming something delightfully; Alder could only guess it was OH JOHN again. John’s ego was bigger than his dick-
Alder tenses as the knife is suddenly RIPPED OUT. John stares at the shaking deputy with zero sympathy and more than enough INTEREST. He tuts, the tone chastising as his hand rests on Alder’s collarbone, pushing back until Alder is sitting straight in the chair. John only stabbed the knife through his hand because he didn’t scream. Didn’t CRY like many others had during their CONFESSIONS. And, being an enormous BRAT, John didn’t LIKE THAT.
Those blue eyes lower down towards the jacket bunched around his arms, shoved out of place so John could reach his back. He hums, the knife being set aside in favor of right the mistake, tugging the jacket back over his shoulders and PULLING until the fabric is soaked with blood from the wound on his shoulder blades. The deputy hisses, which makes John’s grin only widen.
“Oh come now DEPUTY.” John’s voice is cold as ice and twice as TWISTED. “The longer you keep your SINS to yourself, the more ENRAPTURED you’ll be by them. SPEAK Deputy. Say that ONE little word and this can ALL be over.”
He doesn’t speak and the process BEGINS all over again.

@cfdivinity // cult verse sc
He sits in a pew at Joseph’s church, gaze soft and bored, hands in his lap as the handcuffs around his wrists ring with every movement. He’s slouched, hadn’t bothered sitting up straight throughout the entire sermon. Joseph’s WISE WORDS have long since passed. No cultist had come forward to take him back to his supposed room. As opposed to John or Jacob’s region, Joseph was the more....careful. Alder had already been through enough.
The scars on his back ACHED.
The voice in the back of the mind purred with hellish INTENT.
The sound of footsteps draws Alder out of his trace; tired hazel eyes raise and jump towards the door to the church. He doesn’t say anything for a log time. He figures staying quiet and refusing to talk would benefit him the most out here, all things considering. These people were already too far into their own delusions to even THINK of listening to reason.
So he stopped trying.
Leg bouncing now, full on unusable energy, Alder  eyes the woman walking up to him. He instead chooses to look towards Joseph’s podium, spitefully not giving her his time of day. Alder did, however, stand without being prompted to, casually moving past her towards the door. Next thing on his schedule was to be dragged back to his room for the remainder of the day.
Going to these stupid sermons were his only chance at FRESH AIR.

@vexxaticn || chants CULT VERSE CULT VERSE CULT-
Night had fallen over Jacob’s compound far too quickly, Alder more than pleased with the situation. How ironic it was that Jacob had been able to get BOTH of the deputies under his lock and key, lost within their conditioning and beaten to subservience. More freedom than Staci had, however. Jacob scarcely let him out of his sight. But, that didn’t mean HIM AND EMMET weren’t watched at all times either.
Jumping on top of the cages, Alder scurried down the length in SEARCH of the other.
And there he was.
Alder cracks a grin down at Emmet from where he sat, itching to get the jump on him. He hadn’t seen him all day, Jacob working hard to keep the two of them apart for as long as possible. Of course, Alder could see WHY he did it.
WOULDN’T WANT THEM TO REVERT BACK.
“Emmet!” Alder hisses, rolling off the cages and darting over to the other. Their shoulders crash together in his eagerness, but Alder doesn’t seem to CARE much about that. “There you are! Been searching EVERYWHERE!”

@badwclv
The kid hits the ground with a loud huff of breath, hands wriggling in the restraints, tears still pouring down his face as he fights the urge to sob outright. His entire WORLD just came crumbling down around him, the last of those people he called his FAMILY slaughtered right before his eyes. But Alder ignores Wheaty completely now, stepping over him without so much as another word.
Eli and Tammy were dead.
The Militia was either dead, captured or they scrambled.
And all because of the DEPUTY.
The others of the Militia they’d captured are dropped beside him, threats being HISSED out after Alder as he approaches the front gate of the Veteran’s Center. There’s this.....distant ACHE in his chest, guilt riddling him. But he has to force it down when Jacob appears; he had to WIPE the look off his face. He just wants to head inside and hole himself up with the wolves. Or Staci. Whoever he found FIRST.
“Eli and Tammy are dead.” He speaks as he comes to a stop beside him. “Grabbed who we could at the Den. Those that aren’t dead at least. Some managed to escape, but they’re nothing without Eli. No more than gnats trying to hide from the light.” He pauses, not quite meeting his gaze. Killing Eli and Tammy was his PURPOSE. Now that they were gone....
NOW WHAT?

@ofwrcth // cult verse sc
He’s tied down. Long lost track of the days. Blood wells from the wound in his chest, his arm, his upper back, his right HAND. Everything hurts. His mind is spinning from loss of blood and with his hands tied up, he’s unable to PATCH himself up. All he can do is sit in this eerie silence and bleed. John had left him alone for awhile. Hadn’t known where he’d run off to but Alder saw his excitement. And when John was excited, it was never GOOD.
Mind focusing when he hears a door on his left open, tired hazel eyes finally raise from the floor. The floor underneath him is soaked with his own blood; Alder doesn’t flinch when he hears it close, a bit too QUIETLY to be John. Was it one of his Chosen? Another one of the cultists? An ANGEL doing their rounds?
No. Angels couldn’t open doors.
They LOST those motor controls.
Still, Alder doesn’t look up completely. Keeps his gaze focused straight ahead. They’ll show themselves in time. He doesn’t dare try to speak up either. Nothing like having a knife suddenly JAMMED against your throat for speaking out of turn. An experience like THAT would keep anyone, even the strongest of people, silent.
All Alder could do was sit and WAIT.
