I mean? You kinda answered your own question there.

I don't see a situation in which their relationship could be good or healthy, considering everything Airy did in canon and how Liam reacted. So I would say yes - it is bad to paint their relationship in a positive light.

Sorry if this comes off as harsh or disappointing.

idk how I feel about the lairy ship... On one hand I want to hate it since 1- what the fuck?? and 2 they would never in canon. Ok maybe on Airy’s end but Liam would never entertain the thought. On the other hand tho, canon relationships have never stopped me from shipping characters in the past so why should it now?

AND OH MY GOD THE JUICE. THE VILE JUICE OF THE LAIRY SHIP.

The lairy ship could never be fluffy to me, there’s too much gross baggage that can’t be ignored. Airy is literally his kidnapper. We can’t ignore that, and should we to begin with? It can be worked with in an intriguing way! Airy finally having company after god knows how long, having to navigate feelings of attachment to “his favourite contestant” who hates his guts... Him not realising that he’s hated... Liam having to deal with that alongside trying to get them off of the plane.... Him getting more and more annoyed with Airy’s shit..... It’s just so stockholm-ly...

I’m a manwhore for darkfics and fucked up ships so that’s really the only way I can see it. The Lairy ship cannot be cute to me tho. Airy yes, but lairy? No.

An early screen credit for a very young Kenneth Cranham, as the instigator of a domestic disturbance and all round bully boy, in Softly Softly: Task Force: Sprats and Mackerels (1.11, BBC, 1970)

#fave spotting #kenneth cranham #character actors #softly softly: task force #1970 #bbc #classic tv #not my usual fave spotted style; not a tv genre icon as such‚ but undoubtedly one of our finest actors and an award winning #star of the theatre. this was more bc it was such an unexpected surprise (pleasant); Ken had been acting for a few years by 1970 but i do #tend to think of him as a later actor and his most notable roles were still quite a way away #like tom baker (see another fave spotted) Ken had previously appeared on Softly's parent show Z Cars #but the archive status of z cars is much spottier than Softly so i couldn't for sure say whether his ep survives #he's very good here as a lairy‚ volatile young man who inadvertently leads the police into a much bigger people smuggling case #through his arguments with his (implied underage) girlfriend. some tw for this episode tho; whilst fairly sympathetic to the plight #of 'illegal' immigrants‚ the episode contains several uses of unacceptable language and slurs and reflects some of the #prejudices of the time (that time... this time.. sigh) and also contains themes of domestic abuse
