Bumped Heads & Bedtime Stories (Alex Morgan x reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: So this wasn’t planned but once it was in my head I had to write it. I hope you all like it.
Alex and Charlie watched on proudly as you took the field with the Matildas for the Semi final of the World Cup. The younger of the two got up from her mother’s lap and stood directly in front of the TV when the camera zoomed in on you as you exchanged pendants with the German captain.
“Mommy look it’s Mama” Charlie says excitedly.
Long distance was hard for the two of you when you started dating, more so when you got married but all of that failed in comparison to when you had Charlie. You played for Lyon and had done since you were a 21 years old. Alex feared what your bond with Charlie would be like when you lived half way across the world for the majority of the year but she soon found out she had nothing to worry about. Charlie adored you and the bond you two shared was unbreakable.
“It is and she is wearing a shirt just like yours” Alex replies to her daughter.
“This is her shirt Mama, look” Charlie points the your last name on the back of her shirt.
“But you support America, right Charlie?” Kelley asks the small child.
“No! I support Australia” she didn’t pronounce every letter but it was enough to be understood.
Alex knew this was an argument she could never win. You hadn’t tried to get Charlie on your side, the girl automatically chose you. The two of you asked her who she would support if Mama and Mommy play against each other and each time Charlie said you.
The Matildas were putting in yet another dominating performance just like they had been doing the entire campaign. The advantage they had with it being a home tournament made a huge difference and every game sounded and was played like a final.
You were 2-0 up going into the second half. Sam had scored from a corner and you had scored from a free kick. You were currently the top scorer on the tournament which shocked most people because you were a left back but you were also a set piece specialist. The ball almost always found the back of the net whether it came off your foot or your head.
It’s why when the next corner takes place you are heavily marked but some how manage to free yourself. As you jump for the header you feel your head hit something but it felt a lot harder than a ball, this much is proven when you fall to the floor and can feel your head throbbing in seconds. Your first guess is that you got elbowed so you stand to your feet but then feel a warm liquid running down your face. Yes, you had built up a sweat but it was winter in Australia no way are you sweating this much. It is only when you look down that you see drops of red on your shirt and when you raise your hand to where the pain is your hand is covered in blood.
Alex was unaware of the incident that had taken place on the pitch as she was getting some water from the hotel bar. The first wave of panic is brought on when she hears Charlie shrieking and her cries get louder and louder as she runs towards her.
“Mama’s hurt. Blood” Charlie all but jumps into the Alex’s arms. The child is inconsolable.
Your wife doesn’t know to react. She knew that she had to stay calm if she had any hope of calming Charlie down but right now she was finding that incredibly difficult.
When Alex returns to the seating area she sees all eyes are on her before heads turn towards the TV.
“How bad is it?” Alex asks calmly.
“Lots of blood” Charlie is the only one to answer her question.
“Can you one you please tell me what happen to Y/N?” Alex begs her team mates.
“It was a corner. She jumped up for a header but one of the German defenders had a hold of her shirt. The keeper came out to punch the ball away and kneed Y/N in the head. She got up almost immediately—“ Kelley tried telling her best friend.
“So she’s ok?”
“She had a cut on her head. Like Charlie said there was a lot of blood. She refused a stretcher and help from the physios because she wanted to play. Sam and Ellie had to help her of the pitch. She looked out of it”
Alex tried to process what she was being told. Head injuries are serious and regardless of whether you used a stretcher or not, the suggestion of one is enough to instil worry.
“Was it bad?” She wasn’t sure if she wanted to the answer.
“No”
“Yes”
Only one player said yes and it was Kristie.
“Sam refused to play and walked off the pitch with Y/N. I know my girlfriend, I has never seen her look like that and she has never walked away from a game. It’s the semi final. She wouldn’t have gone with Y/N if it wasn’t bad”
Kristie’s statement made Alex feel two things; relief because you had your best friend with you and panic because the blonde was right, Sam wouldn’t have left the match if it wasn’t bad.
“Charlie” Naomi walks up to the little girl who surprisingly doesn’t shy away from her “do you know how many goals you mama has scored so far? I think it’s 2”
Your daughter reaches of the defender and goes into tell her that you had scored and how you scored them.
Time after time, Alex got your voicemail. She was about to give up and drive to the hospital that were closest to the stadium but then Kristie got a call.
“It’s Sam” She holds the phone towards the forward “She’s with Y/N”
Alex took a deep breath before holding the phone up to her ear.
“Y/N”
“Hi Al” you voice was quiet and if she hadn’t already have known she would be able to tell something was wrong “I need to go to the hospital for some checks and stitches”
“Which one? I’ll get one of the cars and be there as soon as I can” Alex was already searching for a member of staff that would have car keys.
“No, don’t come. Stay with Charlie. Hospitals are no place for children and you hate them almost as much as I do. I should only be a couple of hours if I don’t have to stay over. I’ll come to you afterwards”
Alex wanted to argue. She needed to see that you were ok with her own eyes, anything less wouldn’t do.
“You’re going to come here as soon as you can?”
“I am”
The whole USWNT waited patiently, some more than others, for you to arrive to their hotel.  Since you began dating Alex, you had become part of their family. They all watched the incident happen and would feel much better when they saw you in the flesh.
Hours pass and you still hadn’t arrived, they hadn’t even heard from you since the call with Alex.
Charlie went quiet and Alex knew it was because you needed to see you. The young girl always shut down when she missed you and she wouldn’t return to her normal until she saw you or felt like you were close to her. Because of this Alex had packed several of your hoodies so that they can be a source of comfort your daughter and her as well.
“Kells, will you take Charlie up to get one of Y/N’s hoodies. I’d take her but I want to be here when she—“
“Of course”
The choice of clothing must have been a hard decision because the pair was gone almost half an hour. The defender returns to the hotel bar.
“Kelley, please tell me you haven’t lost my daughter?” Alex asks when she notices her friend is alone.
Alex walks towards the defender who had assumed Charlie was right behind her.
“Mama!!”
The word is heard throughout the bar and the giggles that follow lift a weight that had been hanging on each players shoulders.
When you enter the bar, your daughter in your arms, everyone can see what the accident had done to you. The left side of your forehead is slightly swollen and you had stitches just below your hairline. You welcome Alex into your arms and place a small kiss to both her and Charlie’s temples.
Sam hovers near you. You hear Kristie call her over but she shakes her head.
“Go. I’m fine” you pat your best friend on her shoulder “Thank you for staying with me Sammy”
“I’m only over there if you need me” Sam gingerly walks over to her girlfriend.
You sit down with Alex next to you and Charlie on your knee. Your daughter inspects your injury all whilst been careful not to hurt you. She presses your stitches a little too hard which causes you to wince.
“Does it hurt?” Charlie asks and you can feel Alex’s eyes burning into you.
“It does but I’m ok”
“Are you?” It is now Alex’s turn to ask you a question.
“I am. I have no concussion and no major damage”
“Then why is Sam here and why is she watching you like you’re going to pass out at any minute?”
“I lost consciousness a couple of times, I think I scared her” You once made a vow to be honest with Alex and it seemed important now more than ever.
You look over to where Sam and Kristie were sitting and like Alex said, Sam was watching you like a hawk.
“I’m here because I have her medication” Sam answers Alex’s first question.
“Medication? You said you were ok. If you were ok then you wouldn’t need medication”
You give Sam a look as if saying look what you’ve started.
“Sam. Show Alex the medication you were talking about”
Sam holds up a pack of paracetamol earning a laugh from the girls around you.
You hated taking painkillers but the doctor give you strict instructions to take them every 4 hours. It has been 2 hours since your first dose and Sam had taken it upon herself to make sure you took a second dose, after that it would be Alex’s job.
“Sam wanted to see Kristie without it the girls teasing her for it so she’s using me as an excuse”
Sam couldn’t argue with you on that. The team, you included, loved to tease her about how much she missed her girlfriend. You got just as much stick but you agreed with your tormentors whereas Sam would get defensive.
You took Charlie upstairs to get ready for bed since it was made obvious that the team would be staying downstairs for a bit and one late night wouldn’t harm the child.
Whilst Alex did believe you when you told her you were ok, she still wanted a second opinion and your best friend her best option.
“How bad was it?” Alex joins Sam and Kristie at their table. Sonnett, Lynn and Kelley was also at the same table.
“You want the truth?” Your wife nods her head “At first it was really bad. The physios couldn’t stop the bleeding and they didn’t want to go to hospital until they did. Y/N was out of it but she was trying to act fine. Her eyes wouldn’t focus on anything, it was almost like we weren’t in the room with her” Sam tries not to cry but the lump that if forming in her throat was making it difficult.
Alex didn’t share the same need for control. Her tears fell freely as she heard your best friend tell her what happened moment by moment. Turns out she did have a reason for concern and quite a few at that. Looking at the way you walked in you wouldn’t have thought anything had happened but after listening to Sam, Alex realised you had to be putting on a brave front.
When you return with a pyjama clad Charlie Alex tells the group that is is time for the Morgan - Y/L/N’s to go to bed. You saw the look in her eye and didn’t argue.
Once the door had shut Alex started to cry.
“Hey hey, there’s no need to cry” you pull her in tight and hold her close. You knew that you would have scared Alex so you let her cry.
“You scared us” Alex speaks into your chest.
“I know, I’m sorry” you grab her hand and pull her towards the bed. Once sat down Alex buries her head in the crook of your neck and you hold her tightly again.
“Yeah mama, there was a lot of blood” Charlie walks over to the two of you. Alex pulls away and quickly wipes her eyes. She didn’t want your daughter to see her cry.
You wanted to say wait till they see your Matilda’s jersey which was now more red than yellow but now wasn’t the time for jokes.
“I know there was but it all got cleaned up and then I got these to stop it from bleeding again” You point to your stitches.
“I got you this” Charlie climbs onto your lap and holds up a band aid which had Pepper pig on. You take it off her and hand to Alex with a nod of you head. Alex then places the unnecessary band aid across the stitches but makes sure that the cushion covers your stitches.
“Can we watch a movie?”
“Yes” Alex answers.
“Actually, the doctor told Mama she isn’t allowed to watch any movies tonight”
“You said you didn’t have a concussion” Alex whispers knowing full well what people who have concussions get told.
“I don’t but the brightness makes my headache worse” you reassure your wife.
“Why?” Your child was curious and didn’t understand why you wouldn’t be allowed.
“Because whilst I am ok, I do have a poorly head. What about a bedtime story instead?”
Charlie happily takes you up on your offer and even gets herself into her bed.
“What do you think Al, is it time our daughter finds out how we met?”
Alex rolls her eyes at this. You two had very different sides when it came to the day you met. You were adamant that it was love at first sight, especially for Alex but she didn’t agree.
“Only if you tell her the truth”
Once Charlie is tucked up in bed you side on the side with Alex standing over you.
“It started when Australia played America. I had to mark your mommy and she kept trying to take my top off” This earned you a slap from Alex but a giggle from Charlie so it was worth it.
“I did not”
“You ripped it off me remember”
“It was an accident”
“Oh baby, you keep telling yourself that. Do you think it was an accident Charlie?”
“Nope” Charlie agrees with you, of course she did.
You continue telling the story and every so often you would hear Alex scoff at your recollation of events. She saw you as this cocky Aussie but you did catch her eye that first day but she wouldn’t call it love at first sight. Lust would be more appropriate given then you ended in her hotel room that night.
“Then a couple of years later your Mommy moved all the way to France because she missed me and wanted to see me everyday”
“I didn’t move for you. Well not just you”
“Ha! I knew it” you look up at Alex with a smug look in your face.
“I miss you everyday Mama”
“And I miss you my sweet one”
You continue the story up to the point where you propose to Alex when you see Charlie trying really hard to fight sleep. You end it there and promise to finish it another time.
You get into your own bed, well technically it is Alex’s bed, and with a watchful eye you enjoy the show she is putting on as she gets changed.
“So I’ve been thinking”
“Are you allowed to do that?” Alex jokes.
“Actually not but just allow it for the time being. My contract is up with Lyon this summer and I have meeting after the world cup to discuss my contract. How would you feel if I request a transfer?”
Never in all the years of dating and marriage had Alex asked you to leave Lyon, not even when Charlie was born. You were one of the best players in the world, Lyon was the team that made you into that and in return you gave them several champions league titles. Sure the topic had been brought up before but you were always under contract so it was hard.
“Are you saying you are ready to leave?”
“No. I’m ready to stop leaving. Charlie is getting older and you heard her, she misses me and I know you do” Alex throws her top at you “You do and I miss you too. I’ve given my life to that club but it’s time I put our family first”
You wouldn’t admit it but today scared you and you knew that it could have been a lot worse than it was. It made you appreciate these moments you had with your family and you wanted to have more of them even if it did mean moving the San Diego.

First Game – Emily Sonnett x Reader x daughter (fluff)
Tumblr media
Summary: Emily and your daughter has her first soccer game and is determined to be Emily’s mini-me.
Tumblr media
It was early morning, still half asleep you were cuddled into your wife’s side, savoring one of the few Saturday mornings you had with her. Emily’s chest softly moved up and down, her heart beating under your ear. In your half-awake state you could hear noise coming from down the hall but it didn’t register what you were hearing. Ignoring the sounds you buried your face in Emily’s neck hoping to get a little more sleep. That wish was short lived as your bedroom door burst open and tiny footsteps ran in.
“mama, mommy, wake up!” Your four year old, Riley, shouted jumping up on your bed.
“Five more minutes,” Emily groaned, her face burying into your hair causing you to chuckle.
Baby name sat herself on top of you both gently grabbing your face in her small hands, when your eyes remained closed pretending to sleep she gentle shook your face back and forth.
“wake up mommy!”
Sitting up slightly, you wrap your arms around the little girl pulling her down with you as you lay back down, “but it’s so comfy in bed.”
Emily wrapped her arms around the two of you, her eyes still not opening.
“We might just have to stay in bed all day,” Emily sighed.
“Nooo” your daughter squealed trying to wiggle out of your arms. “wake up, wake up, wake up.” Riley jumped up and down on the bed.
Emily faked a groan sitting up, “what’s so important about today anyway, why can we sleep all day?”
Your daughter gasped, offended her mama could ask such a question.
“today’s my first game!” she exclaimed, throwing her arms out dramatically.
“How could we forget!” you said, your daughter crossing her arms.
“Come on, we can’t be late” the little girl tried to pull Emily and you out of your bed.
“Woah, baby sauce soccer stars have to get breakfast first,” Emily told baby finally getting out of bed, picking the little girl up in her arms, “what should we have for breakfast?”
“Waffles!”
“Waffles it is!” you rolled your eyes at Emily and her mini-me.
Getting out of bed you placed a kiss to your daughters head and one to Emilys cheek, “Ill join you two down stairs in a few for game day waffles.”
-
It was a little while later, pre-game waffles consumed, and you were currently standing in the bathroom trying to do Riley’s hair. Typically, she was an easy-going little kid but today she wouldn’t sit still and no matter how many times you redid her hair she wasn’t happy with it.
You were used to the crazy Sonnett pair, always dancing around or laughing. But right now after your third attempt of a ponytail, with your daughter wiggling around singing and trying to dance to the music Emily had put on, you were growing slightly frustrated.
“Baby, I need you to stand still while I do your hair” you said, in a calm voice, brushing Riley’s hair back.
The little girl looked up at you and noticed what you were doing with her hair.
“No, want hair like mama” she pouted seeing the ponytail you were trying to do.
“It is like mamas,” you said, switching tactics and trying to arrange your daughters blonde hair into the signature Sonnett messy bun.
“No it’s not,” the little girl said crossing her arms.
You may have carried and given birth to your daughter but she was practically a clone of Emily. Looking at her through the mirror you were looking at a mini-Emily. Your daughters blonde hair now a mess from where you had let go of it.
“Mama!” you daughter yelled as Emily walked into the bathroom.
“Why isn’t your hair done?” Emily asked your daughter, looking at you questionably.
“Want hair like mama,” Riley explained.
Emily arched an eyebrow looking at you through the mirror.
Throwing your hands up in surrender “I tried, she didn’t like how I did it.”
Emily laughed at your response, before kissing your cheek, wrapping her arms around your waste.
“It’s okay babe, I can do it.” Emily said. “Why don’t you finish getting ready, I’ve got baby sauce.”
You nodded, turning in her arms, placing a kiss to her lips then to the top of your daughters head. The little girl looked up at you with a full grin, dimples popping out.
“I’m gonna be just like mama!”
You chuckled, “of course you are baby.”
Heading to your closet to finish getting yourself ready, you smiled to yourself. Your daughter was the best thing that had happened in your life and even though she was Emilys clone it just made you adore the little girl more.
Half way through changing your outfit you heard music blaring from the bathroom followed by giggles from your two girls. After being married to Emily for many years you were used to her antics which often included music and dancing at the most random times.
“mama you’re silly,” you heard Riley call out.
“I’m not silly!” Emily exaggerates, arguing with her mini-me.
Suddenly a squeal came from the bathroom followed by a clattering a tiny footsteps running into the closet.
“Mommy help me, mamas gonna get me” you daughter ran into you hiding behind your legs with a huge smile on your face.
Emily walks into the closet pretending to look around, “Hmm, have your seen a little girl around here?”
“Nope, don’t think I have” you responded, your daughter giggling from behind you.
Emily moved through the closet looking behind clothes, under shoes, even in drawers much to Riley’s amusement.
“She’s gotta be around her somewhere” Emily said slowly moving closer to where you and your daughter where standing.
“Gottcha!” Emily picked your daughter up spinning her around, carrying her back to your bedroom.
Following behind them you shook your head at the pairs antics.
“Mommy help!” your daughter called out through fits of laughter as Emily started tickling her.
Emily stopped tickling the girl picking her up, “are you going to take it back now?” She asked.
“Never!” your daughter said sticking her tongue out.
Instead of responding, Emily stuck her tongue out back at the little girl.
Walking over to your two girls, you picked Riley up and started walking out of the room.
“Come on you two, we need to leave soon if we’re going to make it to your game on time” you said kissing your Riley’s cheek.
“let’s go, let’s go” your daughter said wiggling out of your arms running to grab her bag, causing you and Emily to laugh.
-
At the game Emily and you stood on the side of the field watching your daughters team play. Multiple of Emily’s teammates had come out to support your daughter at her first game. Kelley, Rose, and a few others made up Riley’s own personal cheer section.
Even though at this age it wasn’t really about skill or tactics, the women around you were talking to each other about little kid level soccer tactics and what position you daughter will play once she’s older.
Half of the kids on the field were currently just running around not really knowing the rules of soccer yet. Except for your daughter, having been raised partially by and around professional soccer players, the rules of the game were practically ingrained in her from birth.
“Run!” Emily shouted toward your daughter when she got the ball from a kid on the opposing team.
“Go, go, go,” Kelley joined in, encouraging Riley.
Your daughter had a signature Sonnett concentration look on her face as she dribbled the ball down the field. Her messy bun still in place from this morning, bobbing as she ran.
“Come on baby sauce you got this!” Rose yelled from her place beside Emily.
Continuing down the field your daughter noticed none of her teammates were nearby or able to be passed to, the young kids still learning the rules of the game, but there was an opening between players in front of the goal.
You watched as your four year old kicked the ball as hard as she could towards the goal. Holding your breath, you grabbed Emilys arm in anticipation. When the ball hit the back of the neck Everyone around you erupted into cheers, as well as your daughters teammates.
“Yes!” Emily shouted.
“Great job baby sauce!” Rose screamed, giving the girl a thumbs up.
Your daughter jumped in the air in excitement over her first goal before running back over to her teammates as the game continued.
Riley’s team ended up winning but both teams had been given ribbons to celebrate their first game. After pictures had been taken the little girl cam running over to Emily and you.
“I did it! I scored a goal!” she yelled jumping into Emily’s arms.
“You did a great job baby,” you said, giving both girls a hug.
“We’re so proud of you,” Emily said, smiling brightly at your daughter.
“Looks like you two have a future forward on your hands,” Kelley said patting Riley on the head.
“I wanna be just like mama!” Riley told Kelley, her dimples over taking her face.
Rose laughed at this response, “then you better learn all the positions baby sauce.”
Riley nodded as if she was making mental notes on how to become just like Emily one day.
“Should we get ice cream to celebrate?” Emily ask, taking your daughter out of her thoughts.
“Ice cream!” Riley looked over to you knowing you were pretty strict about sweets before dinner, “Can we go mommy?”
“I suppose, it is a special day after all,” you said kissing Riley’s cheek.
Riley turned to Rose and Kelley, “Rosie and Miss Kelley come?”
Kelley took Riley out of Emily’s arms spinning her around, “of course! We have to celebrate with our little super star.”

One for the road | Alex Morgan x Reader

Part 2 of Your damn cherry chapstick
A/N: Again we are going to, again, pretend that voicemails can be this long lol. Tech at work stopped working so was able to write this.
Warnings: Internalized homophobia, slight nsfw, not a happy ending
WC: 684
*Ring*
“Hey sorry I missed your call, just leave me a message and I’ll get back to you when I can! Bye!”
“Hey (y/n), this isn’t technically a text…but you will probably not even listen to this. So, I guess I’ll just say what I need to say for my own sake.”
Pause
“I remember the first time that I had met you…you were way too excited that morning practice…I was not. laughs Then we got paired up for drills and I could barely keep up with you…I don’t think you even broke a sweat”
Pause
“You were one of the few that had class after practice while the rest of us headed back to Clark Kerr to shower and sleep a bit longer. I made an off-hand comment as we were going our separate ways. I had seen a vendor near our dorm on the weekend selling strawberries and wondered when they would be back so I could buy myself some”
Pause
“I didn’t think about it until that evening…you knocked on my door with a small, green basket filled with strawberries. Honestly, I didn’t expect it especially from you...I mean we had just met. You just took one from the basket and took a bite, ‘just one for road as payment’ you said to me with a wink as you walked away to your room down the hall”
Pause
“I think that is when I started to fall in love with you…yeah I loved you…I probably still do…no, I still do. Sigh You became my best friend and I don’t ever think I can be as close to someone as I was with you. When we had our first kiss in the hallway of the frat house celebrating our win against Stanford…I swear I didn’t taste the tequila that you drank earlier but the strawberry you had the day we met.”
Pause
“I fell harder for you every day but I got scared…when you introduced me to Servando…I saw an easier future. You were everything I dreamed of but my career was just starting…I was becoming a poster child and the world is better but- I- sacrificed everything I had with you to have everything I have now. I hurt you I know…it hurts me knowing that. The Gala, I left you the moment I saw the recruiters, my fear came back again and I attached myself to Servando. You would be ok without me was my thought; you didn’t need me…Portland was smart to take you when they got created”
Pause
“(Y/N), I didn’t realize how much what I did affected you until you got injured for the first time in Portland. The eyes you shot at me when I approached you in the physio room to check on you. The force that you used to pushed me away, ‘Don’t fucking touch me’ keeps playing in my head when I remember that day. I really lost my best friend”
Pause
“You said that you remember the way I-...I remember those times too…I haven’t forgotten that. You were more than that to me. That last time…it was a goodbye but I just wanted to be close to you again to just be around you. I wanted to be near you when you had your career ending injury with Portland. That’s not what I did. I kept my distance when I saw you go down and from then on I kept myself from you.”
Pause
“I did listen to your voicemail if it isn’t obvious…I’m sorry…You’re right when you say that I would think to run back to you if you showed up at the wedding…but it would only be a thought. I’m still that scared university student, fearful for her future but so in love with her best friend. You don’t deserve what I am doing to you, so this will be my last message to you ok? I love you and even if I won’t be in your life anymore…I will always be rooting for you…maybe in the next life we-... never mind. Goodbye, (y/n)”

the one that got away ➶ r. lavelle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: rose lavelle
summary: part two of the bet
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
you did what you promised, you had quit the us national team early than you planned. you only represented the team during friendlies, but never a major tournament which meant that you were eligible to play for one of your parent’s home country.
word had gotten out that you are of swedish heritage, making you eligible for the world cup selection. you were named to be part of the 23 player squad roster shocking the american fans that had supported you, they claimed this as a betrayal to your country so you stayed away from social media.
the hate comments that you’ve gotten made you a bit self conscious. as for club, you’ve made a permanent transfer to wolfsburg and made your debut in the bundesliga. the angel city fans had supported your decision.
yet here you were in the swedish locker room, you sat besides zećira who gave you a concerned look.
“nervös?” the goalkeeper asked, as you gave her a timid look. you heard the rose wouldn’t be playing, as she had gotten her second yellow card of the tournament.
it made you feel a bit sick, you knew her dreams would be shattered if the us had gotten knocked out of the tournament. however, you would feel a bit disappointed, angry at the world if your team had gotten knocked out.
“är det så uppenbart? [is it so obvious?]” the goal keeper chuckled at your behavior as she gave you a nod. the team was surprised that you could speak fluent swedish when you first joined the camp, but they would make tease you for having an american accent.
“ditt ben har studsat, så det har varit. [your leg has bounced, so it has been.“ you winced as she gave you a soft pat on the back, it was that obvious huh?
“it’s against my old team, surely there will be fans that hate me.” as the goal keeper was about to respond, you watched as magda and asllani entered the room, signaling it was time for the starting XI to line up in the tunnel.
you stood behind your team’s goal keeper, as you tried to avoid the eyes of your former teammates. no one knew besides julie and the one who caused the transfer.
“why did you leave?” lindsey asked, as she looked behind and set her eyes on you. you saw zećira glanced at the american captain to which you shrugged.
“it’s not important.” you said, as you averted your eyes avoiding the scoff that came out of her mouth. you had this feeling that something could go wrong in this match and you were absolutely correct.
once the national anthems of both teams were gone, you pulled off your hoodie ignoring the way your shirt rode up. frido, who treated you like a younger sister held onto the end of your shirt pulling it down as you gave her a soft smile when the hoodie was already off.
you went into position for the starting XI pictures before taking your place in the backline. you were a defender, a bloody good one on that.
the game started out really rough, in the 26th minute you sent a cross to frido who got a tap on the ball before sending it to the bottom corner. you watched as frido jumped on top of you, you supported her back making sure she wouldn’t fall as your team celebrated, shaking you in the process.
the euphoria had died when trinity had scored an absolute banger of a goal in the 45th minute. as the whistle blew you made your way to the locker room, frido and zecira beside you as you’d talk about something random in swedish.
you didn’t notice her look at you with soft eyes, happy that you were happier but sad that you didn’t even glanced at her.
as the second half had begun, you were tackled by lindsey who had her studs up. it was a challenge, but you were first to get the ball. you held onto your ankle as your team shouted in protest, she wasn’t even carded.
“can you carry on?” the swedish physio asked as you gave him a small nod. you were assisted by a team doctor as they helped you up.
you didn’t know that this match would end into penalties, even after the extra time was given both teams were unable to score. you had also been tackled by the opposing team several times, and the ref had turned a blind eye not calling it, as your team was frustrated.
“you’ll be subbed off.” asllani said, as you yelled in protest.
“i don’t want to be subbed off.” you said, as she turned to you, analyzing your condition if you were able to carry on. you knew there would be bruises but you were quite stubborn.
you watched as both teams had scored 5-5 in penalties, so it was up to you to take the last one. you took a deep breath before she blew the whistle, and when she did you took a short run up before sending it in the bottom right. the ball had hit the net, as you ran towards your teammates. you just scored the winning penalty to move onto the quarter-finals.
“well done, y/n.” magda said as she gave you a pat on the head. you gave her a soft smile, no matter how hard you tried not to, you turned your head to the us bench, interlocking your eyes with rose.
no matter how you ended, you’d promise her that you’d stay by her side. so you slowly approached the bench, and held your arms out. she wrapped her arms around you, as you did the same.
her head was buried in the crook of your neck as you patted her back. you knew a certain someone would tease you later, but it didn’t matter.
in another life, i would be your girl
perhaps in another life things would be different, it wouldn’t be a bet, nor would it end up like this. maybe you both had fallen for each other in a normal way, or maybe you both had fallen for another person.
we keep all our promises, be us against the world
one day in the middle of training, you both made a promise that it would be the two of you against the world. that you’ll fight the odds beside each other rather than against each other. yet look where that ended.
in another life, i would make you stay
rose had deeply regretted the way things ended, she wanted to tell you that it was a bet, that she had fallen in love with you and didn’t mean to hurt you, but you had found out before she could.
she had fallen for you, as she noticed the little things you’d do. you’d open the door for everyone who passes by, you’d write little messages on a sticky note to cheer the team and random people up. you’d randomly act like a fool with kelley which made her smile as she got to saw your childish side.
so i don’t have to say, you were the one that got away
it was her actions that caused you to go away. you felt embarrassed, and dejected on how things ended that you wanted to disappear from this world. you went away to focus on yourself, going out of a relationship wasn’t as easy as some people would say.
the one that got away.

Welcome to New York II Ali Krieger x Reader
Tumblr media
"Everybody here was someone else before And you can want who you want Boys and boys and girls and girls." Welcome To New York, Taylor Swift
masterlist I word count: 2901
The first thing you thought as you spotted Ali Krieger standing on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum was that this could have been a scene from a romantic comedy. A warm smile played on the defender’s lips while she had two cups of coffees in her hands:” Hi.” “Hi. Is this one for me or do you just need a lot of caffeine today”, you asked her teasingly.
Amused she shook her head: “No, the second one is for you. Ocean and Sloane let me sleep long enough today.” “Oh, lucky for me. Thank you so much.”, you answered grateful for her thoughtfulness. Still smiling Ali handed you your coffee: “You’re welcome.” Nervously you put a string of your hair behind your ear: “I hope you didn’t wait too long for me.” As much as you loved this city, the public transport was against you coming punctually to your coffee date with the equally busy soccer player today. Kindly she waved at you:” No, I didn’t. Do you want to keep standing here or walk around?” “Let’s walk around a bit.”, you decided.
Side by side you started walking, clearing her throat Ali admitted with a shy grin: “Alright. To be honest, I’m so glad Jason Sudeikis introduced us to each other at my last league game party.” “Oh, me too. Trust me. It was nice to get a look inside a soccer team.”, you agreed with her. Curiously the older woman looked at you:” As inspiration for your upcoming leading role in the female ted lasso spin off?” “You can never have enough inspiration. And to be honest, I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so I want to portray my role as realistically as possible.”, you declared slightly blushing.
Playfully the defender pouted: “Oh, and I hoped you were really interested in me as a person and not only in the soccer player part of my personality.” “Not at all. I think the soccer player part is impressive but it’s not the most interesting part about you.”, you told her.   “Oh really?” The blush on your cheeks intensified: “Maybe your good looks were also a part of it.” “And the glasses of wine we shared.", she winked at you. This comment made you chuckle:” I can only say that they definitely kept the conversation going.”
“Not only that.”, Ali added grinning hinting at what happened as the night turned over into the early morning, the time in which the never sleeping city was buzzing with life and excitement and the sexual attraction between you could not been denied any longer. “Ali!”
“What? It’s true.”, the football player shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. You scoffed: “You’re terrible.” “Yes, but you don’t mind it.”, she observed. Laughing you confessed: “Actually, I kinda like it.” “I can tell.”, Ali nodded satisfied. “I’m sorry.” “Don’t be.”, the defender whispered.  Elegantly you changed the topic: “It’s really beautiful today. The weather is perfect.”
Ali let her gaze wander over the autumnal scenery of the Central Park. The yellowing leaves were contrasting against the blue sky. “Agreed. New York in fall is stunning.“, she smiled. “It is.“, you agreed, taking in the crisp air. “Have you always lived in New York?“, Ali asked, genuine curiosity on her face. You shook your had and admitted; “Actually, no.“ The football players eyebrows knotted together; “No?“ With a sigh, your gaze dropped down to the fallen leaves on the ground; “Although I wished…“ “Tell me about it…“, Ali implored.
“Actually, I grew up in a conservative midwestern town.“, you started to explain. The defender grimaced, understanding the implication; “Oh. I’m sorry.“ “So coming to New York as a young adult did feel liberating in every way.“, you continued with a sad smile. Ali sipped on her coffee; “You know, a lot of my team mates who are queer had similar experiences.“ “Similar to some of my acting friends.“, you added. Ali shrugged with a sigh; “I’m always glad to hear when queer people from difficult places found a safe space.“
Nervously turning the cup in your hand, you asked; “You came out quite late to the public too, right?“ “Yes, that’s true. I thought it’s no one’s business but mine.“, she replied, nodding in thought. “What made you change your mind about it?“ “I realized that I can be of better use as a role model.“, she answered nonchalantly. You bit your lip, moved by revelation; “That’s very brave of you.“ Ali gave you a wry smile; “Thank you. But that wasn’t an easy decision for me either.“ “No, I understand that. Being queer wasn’t something that people in the movie industry liked to see a few years ago… sometimes even now.“, you told her. “I’m sorry.“ You shook your head; “It’s fine, really.“ “I guess we all have our struggles.“, the defender thought out lout. “Yes, we do.“
You were grateful when Ali finally offered; “Do you want to change the topic?“ Smiling, you gave her a soft nod to leave that topic behind; “Yes, please. I don’t want to ruin the mood during our little coffee date.“ “You couldn’t. I really enjoy talking to you.“, Ali said, carefully taking your hand into hers. “Same.“ „You do?“ “Yes, even though I told you about my sad little childhood.“, you laughed, your cheeks turning slightly pink as you wondered if you had overshared. But the smile on Alis face made that thought immediately disappear; “I appreciate it. Really. I’m glad you shared it.“
“That means a lot. So, what about you? Are you excited for the play offs?”, you asked her. The eyes of the defender lit up:” Yes, absolutely. I’m happy about every game I get to play.” “This must feel very special.”, you said, her excitement was infecting you too. “It is. If you’d like to get some more inspiration you could come.”, she offered you without hesitation.
Delighted you replied:” To your game? I’d love that.” “I’ll make sure you get some tickets.”, Ali continued happily. “Thank you.” The football player could not stop smiling: “You’re welcome.” For a second you looked worried:” You don’t think Ashlyn would mind, right?” “She won’t. Trust me.”, she reassured you quickly. Relieved you sighed:” Okay. Good.” Don’t worry about it. This is over.”, Ali confirmed. With a remark you tried to lighten up the mood again:” Yes, you made that very clear when you kissed me at the doorstep after your party.” “You asked about her.” “Sorry, I’m an idiot.”, you hid your face in her hands.  Softly the football player disagreed with you: “No, you’re not.” “So that means I can kiss you? This time without alcohol breath?”, hopeful you looked up to her.
Amused Ali glanced at you:“You can always kiss me. Doesn’t matter if it’s on parties or in the Central Park.” “Although, I’d argue that this here is way more romantic.”, you chuckled.  Expectantly she threw a look at you:” You can argue all you want but I’d rather you just kiss me.” “As you wish.”, you said before your lips met her who were waiting for that to happen since they departed from another.
After the training ended for the Gotham players Kristie let out an excited shriek: ”Oh my god, Ali ! I’m so jealous!” Confused the captain looked at her before the blonde showed her an article on her phone which contained photos of Ali and her new girlfriend kissing romantically in the Central Park. Laughing Kelley intervened:” Jealous about the fact that they had a romantic moment in the autumnal Central Park or that she made it into the news with that?” “Actually.. both.”, Kristie admitted.
Surprised the dark-haired defender mumbled:” Oh no, they wrote about us.” “What’s wrong? It’s a cute photo.”, Kelley furrowed her eyebrows. Enthusiastically Kristie reminded the older player: “Exactly and you’re allowed to have fun, Ali. You’re in your lemonade era, remember?” “Still, I wasn’t ready to go public with that yet. And I don’t know if she was either.”, Ali bit her lip.  Empathetic Kelley put an arm around her shoulder:” I get that too.” “I need to call her.”, the captain announced.
You were on set, spending your lunch break with the other actors, when you noticed your phone ringing. Seeing Alis name appear on the display made your heart jump unexpectedly. Happily you took the call; “Ali, Hi.“ “Hi.“, she replied. The tone of her voice made you frown; “What’s wrong? You sound a bit upset.“ The football player sighed as if to brace herself; “Have you seen the article yet?“
You grabbed your coat and your bag and hurried away from the other actors, ignoring Jason Sudeikis’ sceptical glance; “Uhm no. What article? We were busy filming the new tv episodes.“ “They photographed as kissing.“, she came straight to the point. You froze in place; “Wait. What?“ “I’m sorry.“ Your thoughts began racing, bringing you back to how exhilarated you felt during your date. Even though Ali couldn’t see you, you still shook your head; “No, I’m sorry. If I hadn’t kissed you there… this article would not exist.“ “I don’t regret the kiss… really.“, the defender replied with determination in her voice. “But you wish to have been private a little longer, right? Which is understandable considering your divorce is still fresh…“, you were thinking out loud.
Ali confirmed your thoughts; “Actually, yes. How do you feel about it?“ You let a few seconds pass before admitting; “It feels very early.“ “I know.“ “But you should know that I’m serious with you.“, you added truthfully. Ali let out a small breath, relieved; “Me too. I want this.“ Your smile was back in place; “Jason gifted me an Ali Krieger Fan club - shirt. Should I wear it to one of your games or would this be too much?“ “Please do it. If they won’t let us have our privacy, we can at least have some fun with them.“ You could basically hear Ali grinning through the phone. “Exactly what I thought too.“ Ali laughed; “I like that. You get me.“
“So, I’ll see you at the stadium? Will Sloane and Ocean be there too?“, you asked. You had the chance to meet Alis kids briefly for a few times and they had already won your heart, so you got even more excited when you heard Ali say; “Yes.“ “Great. Because I already miss them while being away on the set.“ “I’m sure they’re happy to see you again too.“, Ali said, her voice soft. “And I miss you too of course.“, you added quickly. “I do hope that!“, the defender teased. “So much.“, you admitted and with a quick glance on your watch, you ended the call; “Okay, break is over. I’ll call you back tonight.“ “Talk to you later.“
The team of Gotham FC was buzzing with excitement as they stepped on the field in Portland. If the players won, this game they would make it to the final. Grinning Lynn Williams touched the shoulder of her captain: “I spotted your girl, Ali!” “Really?”, Ali wanted to know from the forward, trying to discover your face in the crowd at Providence Park.  Equally thrilled Kristie pointed to the direction where you were standing: “Over there.” “Oh. She’s wearing the shirt.”, the defender observed with a hint of proudness in her voice.
Amused Kelley remarked: “Not subtle at all.” “It’s not supposed to be.”, Ali told her. A bright smile was on Kristie’s lips:“I love it, I’m obsessed.”  “Of course, you like that, Kristie.”, Kelley threw in unsurprised. Clearing her throat Lynn drew all the attention on her:” Yeah, so that’s all cute and sweet but we’ve a game to win girls.” “Yes. We got to focus on that.”, Ali agreed with the forward. Gotham’s number 5 nodded along:” Yes, we’re making sure that Ali has another game to play before her retirement.”
“What retirement? With those many games, I guess you can’t really call it retirement yet.”, their captain corrected her smiling. Winking Kelley reminded the dark - haired player: “Yes, but it’s one game before the final.” “And I’d love to get to the final, girls.”, with a cheeky grin Ali glanced at each of their teammates to give them that extra motivation tonight.
The game was really close, and they had to went into overtime but thanks to Katie Stengels goal in the 107’ minute against the Portland Thorns, they won this important match and would make it to the Final. After the referee blew the final whistle, Kelley cheered loudly:” She’s not done yet!” “I’m not leaving without a trophy!”, Ali shouted happily. Ecstatic Kristie who played her first minutes after her injury in today’s game screamed: “We won, bitches!” “Who are you calling a bitch?”, Ali threw an eyebrow up at the blonde before the two and Kelley started to dance out their feelings. The words to describe their emotions would be found later, now was the time to just be in the moment and celebrate.
Meanwhile Sloane made her way through the soccer players:” Mummy!” “No more b-words here, Mewis!, Ali warned her fellow teammate before pulling her daughter into a hug, Hi, baby.”
“Okay, but your new girlfriend has a nice ass.“, Kristie commented with a smirk, disregarding Alis warning, while Sloane jumped into her mums arms; “You won!“ “Mewis!“, Ali yelled before turning back to her daughter and agreed with a much softer voice; “Yes, we won. That means mum has to play one more game.“ “That’s okay. Love to see you play. Ocean was such a baby though. He fell asleep in her arms.“, Sloane rolled her big brown eyes and pointed in your direction where her little brother was sleeping in your arms. With a laugh, Ali explained to her daughter: “He is still small.“ “Yes. I’ll forgive him that.“, Sloane nodded. Alis eyes met yours and you both had to suppress a laugh.
Slowly you bridged the few steps between you two; “Hi. Sorry, someone is very sleepy. As is the big one who pretends she’s wide awake.“ You nodded first into Oceans, then into Sloanes direction. Ali put Sloane down who pressed into her leg with a yawn. “Let me take him.“, Ali offered, holding out her hands to take her sleeping son from you. She gratefully smiled at you; “Thank you so much for taking care of them. I appreciate it.“ “You’re welcome.“, you replied, leaning over to kiss your girlfriend passionately but careful to not wake up Ocean.
“Excuse me! Those kisses are not child friendly either!“, Kristies voice interrupted the two of you. Alis face was still close to yours as she rolled her eyes; “It’s a kiss. You do worse things with your girlfriend!“ “Ali is right about that!“, Lynn chimed in. Ali shook her head and you noticed the adoration for her teammates in her eyes, even though she wanted to seem annoyed; “Sorry about them.“ “It’s okay, trust me. My acting friends are even more dramatic.“, you laughed. „Yeah, I can imagine.“, the defender grinned, leaning in for another kiss.
Next to you, Lynns face brightened while she pointed to her teammate; “I bet Kristie would have been great in drama school too!“ “Yeah, but she can’t remember shit.“, Ali interjected. Kristies mouth fell open in outrage; “You guys are so mean.“ “Only because we love you.“, Kelley now joined your group, winking at Kristie. Ignoring the others, Kristie turned to you, her phone in hand; Can we take a selfie together? My girlfriend Sam is such a fan of you and can’t wait for your upcoming tv show.“ “Sure, but I’m for Ali tonight…“, you answered politely. You posed for the photo together, grinning into Kristies phone camera while she smirked; “Yeah, we noticed that.“
“The shirt spoke for itself, huh?”, you laughed with her. An amused smile was on the blonde’s lip:” I can assure you it did.” “Good.”, you nodded satisfied. Slightly displeased Ali asked her teammate:” Are you done now, Kristie?” “Yes, sounds like someone is missing her girlfriend.”, the younger player winked at you.
The older woman rolled her eyes before turning her attention to you:” Ignore her.” “With a pleasure.”, you told her as you kissed her again. Expectantly Ali looked into your eyes when you two ended the kiss:” I hope you know that you have to come to the final now too.” “That’s alright with me.”, you replied happily. The defender whispered into your ear:“You seem to bring me luck.” “Meaning I need to wear the same shirt too?”, you asked her, throwing an eyebrow up.
Innocently Ali played with a loose hair string of yours:” Actually, this time I’d like to see you in my jersey.” “Your Jersey? Okay.”, you agreed. Softly your girlfriend blushed:“It’s a bit more.. official.” “I see.” “If you want to of course.”, Ali’s face went serious. Quickly you replied: “I do.”  “I’ll bring you one.”, the older woman decided. Proudly you glanced at her:” Thanks, it’ll be an honour to wear it.” “It’s an honour for us that you support us.”, Ali corrected you. Looking at her children you said: “The children look tired.” “Let’s take them to bed now.”
“Good night you three.”, you wished them warmly while you all four were slowly falling asleep in the hotelroom. With a bright grin on her face Ali answered:”Good night.”

Draft (Ashley Sanchez)
Olivia is dating fellow Spirit and USWNT player, Ashley Sanchez. The yearly NWSL draft breaks more hearts than anyone imagined.
Im currently in Portland with Sophia. I play for the Spirit but it’s currently off season so i am spending some time with Soph, one of my best friends.
“You excited?” Asked Soph as she sat beside me on the couch.
“For sure. We’ve got three first round picks.” I said.
“Trading Sam Stabb though?” Sophia asked me, looking at me as i sighed.
“Yeah, look, the whole system is messed up. I hate the whole trading thing. I don’t understand why we can’t just adopt a normal transfer policy like everyone else. I mean, you don’t even need to agree to the move here, if the club wants to trade you then they will no matter if you agree or not and it’s not fair.” I shrugged back. I’ve always had an open opinion on the way things are done in this league.
“I agree. Oh, look, it’s starting.” Soph said as the draft began.
I watched the first three before i rushed off to the bathroom. When i came back i stopped in my tracks as i saw Soph, sitting staring at me. The look in her eyes told me everything. Something had happened. Something bad had happened. I slowly walked over and she stood up, giving me a tight hug before we both sat down. She sighed, looking at me softly.
“What happened, Soph? Have you been traded?” I asked, chuckling at how stupid that sounded. Of course Soph hadn’t been traded.
“No. It’s Ash.” Soph said and my eyes widened as my jaw dropped.
“Shut up. Stop playing. You’re lying. She signed a new deal. There’s no way.” I stuttered out, grabbing my phone.
“She was traded to North Carolina for the 5th draft pick.” Soph stated and i immediately grabbed my phone.
“Who even decided that would be a good move? Ashy under Jona was going to be insane. She loves DC, she loves the club. We let her go in order to sign an extra rookie? Nothing against them, i’m sure they’re great. We already had multiple first round picks. I don’t even understand.” I sighed and Soph immediately put her arm around me.
I opened my phone and saw the official confirmation on Spirits instagram, i scoffed as i read the short goodbye. As i opened the comments they were full of Spirit fans bashing the club for this decision as well as people worrying about not only Ash but me and Trin as well. I decided to comment.
“You deserved better, Ashy.”
She does. She deserves so much better. She didn’t agree to this. I know she didn’t. It’s not fair. Will i get in trouble for my comment? Yeah, probably. Do i care? No. They broke her. They broke a lot of people. It’s stupid.
My thoughts were so loud, so loud that Soph tightened her grip around me. I was pulled out of my thoughts when my phone began to ring. I rolled my eyes as i neared it but when i lifted it up to read the screen and saw my girlfriend was face timing me, i immediately answered.
Ashy❤️
She was crying which made me tear up. This is so unfair.
“Ashy..” I whispered so softly as my voice broke at the sight.
“It’s okay, love. It’s all going to be okay.” She whispered, trying to not only convince me but also convince herself.
“Did you know? Did they tell you?” I asked and my girlfriend gave me a look as if to say it dosent matter.
“Ashy, did they fucking tell you?” I asked again.
“No. I didn’t know. I found out on Instagram. No one told me. I didn’t want to leave. I signed a new deal. This is my home, i wanted to stay.” She said, a couple of tears falling down her face.
“Unbelievable,”I scoffed,”I’m coming with you.” I blurted out. Sophia looked at me softly, she understood my heart break. Ashley looked at me like she always does, her eyes were full of love and i couldn’t help but smile softly at her.
“No. Liv, you’re not going anywhere. You have a contract until 2026, just like Trin. In two years you can leave.” She told me and i sighed.
“Yeah, a contract? You had one of those too. They don’t mean shit over here. NCC wanted me last season, i said no. I know they still want me. If i just tell my agent i want to go, i can force Spirit to trade me.” I stated, confident.
“No, Liv. You have a story to write here in DC. You and Trinity have not finished that story yet. You still have so much more to accomplish here.” Ashley said, softly as usual but i wasn’t convinced.
“None of that seems as important as it did when you were apart of it. Mine and Trin’s stories will never be complete, not without you in them. They played you, and i’m so mad at them. Me and Trin could easily come with you. I don’t want to be without you, either does she.” I sighed, tears finally spilling from my eyes.
“Soph…Help me out here.” Ashley pleaded with the Thorns forward who gave me a soft smile.
“She’s right. You love DC and you love the club. You don’t want to leave, kid. I know you don’t, and you know it too.” Sophia said, but she was wrong.
“You’re wrong! Both of you! I do love it here, it’s my home away from home and being here has given me the best years of my life. I’ve met so many amazing people here, who will remain in my life forever. But not wanting to leave? I have no desire to stay anymore. The organisation is messed up. They don’t care about us players, if they did none of this would have happened. Both you and Sam were traded without any warning. I don’t want to be apart of that.” I was clear in what i was saying.
“Jona is coming soon. You were so excited to play under him.” Sophia said to me and Ashley hummed in agreement.
“You were jumping around like crazy when he was announced.” Ashley added.
“I was excited, you’re right, but so were you. I would love to play under Jonatan. Look, i love DC so much. I love the fans and my Spirit teammates. Yesterday, i had no desire to leave. It wasn’t something that was fully off the cards, but it wasn’t something i was desperate for or looking for. Now, i have no desire to stay. I feel betrayed for you.” I told Ashley.
“Wait, Trin is calling.” Ashley told me.
“Add her.” I said and so she did. Trinity joined the face time, quite clearly crying.
“I’m coming with you.” Trinity said softly.
“I just had this conversation with Liv. No one is going anywhere.” Ashley said but Trinity had a look in her eye, one that told me she was being serious.
“No, Ash. I’m being serious. I forced a trade. I’m being traded to NCC, too.” Trinity said and Ashley’s jaw dropped but soon a smile formed on her face.
“Liv…” Ashley began but my mind was made up.
“No. I’m leaving.” I simply stated before leaving the group face time.
“This is it then?” Sophia asked and i nodded before hugging her.
“I love her. She’s my world, Soph. I need to be with her. She means more to me than anything in this world. This club betrayed her and i cannot be apart of something that does not respect the players. It’s crazy.” I said into her shoulder and she nodded, holding me close for a few minutes.
***
After a couple of hours, i was also traded to NCC. It wasn’t difficult really. I was pretty clear with Spirit and they basically had no choice.
After it was done, i joined the group face time again. This time with a smile on my face. Ashley knew as soon as i joined due to the smile on my face. As soon as she saw me she grinned.
“Any room for a third?” I asked as i joined while they were talking about apartments and both girls smiled happily.
“Great. Just when i thought i wouldn’t need to third wheel anymore.” Trinity teased.
“You’ll still get your own room, be grateful.” I joked back and she laughed.
“Olivia, i love you wholeheartedly.” Ashley said to me and i blushed slightly.
“Forever, Ashy. I love you, forever.” I said back and she gave me a soft smile.
***
Both mine and Trin’s trades were announced to the world that evening. It didn’t really come as a shock to anyone. I felt the need to put out a statement, alongside my goodbye. I felt the fans deserved an explanation because they don’t deserve any of this.
Spirit family…Wow. I have no words. Being here, in DC, has been extraordinary in so many different ways. These past few years have been the best of my life and i never expected it to end so soon. I would like to express my gratitude to the fans and my teammates for everything. This has nothing to do with you! Thank you, i’ll miss you all!!
Leaving DC was never something i desired. I signed a new deal because i was happy and confident in this teams ability, the later never changing. However, earlier today everything changed. I felt betrayed by the actions of the people higher up and my heart was broken. Some things are a lot more important to me than this game, so yes, moving to follow my partner was an easy decision especially after the absurd treatment she received from the club.
The ruled need to change for the players sakes. Our future is never guaranteed. Contracts mean nothing and this NEEDS to change.
“I don’t regret anything.” I sighed happily as i lay my head on Soph’s shoulder, content with my decision.
“I knew you would go with her.” She simply said.
“You did? How?” I asked my best friend who smiled.
“Livy, you are so lovestruck it’s incredible. You would do anything for her, and she would do the same for you. If the roles were reversed she would leave with you, that’s for sure. Shes your soulmate, the love of your life. She is the person you want to spent the rest of your life with, you want to be with her every single minute. The way everything happened opened your eyes. You need to protect her, you feel. I think you’ve made a good decision. Maybe this will hurry you up in putting a ring on her finger.” Sophia said, chuckling at the end.
“We have only been dating for 4 years.” I said, laughing.
“That’s a very long time. Shes turning twenty five this year, so she was twenty one when you started dating and, wow, you were eighteen. That’s a long time ago, lil sis.” She shrugged and i blushed. I then got up and walked away, going into my suitcase and pulling out a box. I walked back into the room and Sophia practically jumped up from her seat.
“Shut up!!” She screamed and i laughed.
“You’re doing it? When? Where? How? What? Since when?” The questions were flying as excitement overcame her.
“Since the world cup. We were talking about it, she said she wants to marry me sooner rather than later. I asked her what age and she said between 24 and 25, before walking away. She basically hinted at it and then i went and bought a ring. I don’t know what i’m going to do. Get her to come to Portland, make up a reason. We’ll go somewhere and i’ll ask her.” I said and Sophia jumped into my arms.
“Oh my god!! I’m so excited!! Shouldn’t you ask her to come, though?” She asked me.
“I’m not sure, Smith, guess you’ll need to figure out how to get her here.” I shrugged as i slipped the ring back into my pocket.
“You’re a real pain you know.” She said and i just smiled.

Based of this request.
A/N: This is the longest fic I have ever written with 11,599 words. I hope it isn’t too long and that you all like it. One more thing, ANGST!!!
You had been keeping a secret since the day you were born. Only a few people knew about it and that's because someone else told them but at what point does a secret turn into a lie?
You spent your childhood having bi yearly surgeries but they were only temporary fixes until the doctors felt your heart was strong enough to take the stress of a more complicated surgery. This came when you were 15, it meant you could play the sport you love, and to the naked eye your condition was non existent as long as you took your medication. It wouldn't be the last surgery you had, in fact the doctors told both you and your mom that they would have to do the same surgery again in around 10 years.
It resulted in you learning to live one day at a time and you never looked too far into the future but you couldn't ignore the fact that every year is one step closing to needing a second surgery. So when you turned 25 you couldn't help but feel like you were on borrowed time. Two years after that, the hospital visits became a monthly occurrence in order to keep an eye on your condition and your doctor was surprised that your heart was holding up well and it was but that feeling of being healthy soon came to a halt.
First came the shortness in breath followed by the chest pains, they are symptoms that you are all too familiar with. At first it was manageable but then it got hard to hide the toll it was taking on your body.
"Are you ok kid?" you feel a hand rest on the small of your back as you bend over in attempt to catch your breath after a sprinting drill.
"It's getting worse" you look up at your captain Christine Sinclair "I'll be ok, I have to be. The olympics are around the corner and I can't miss them" the panic in your voice sparks concern within the Canadian.
"Ok, ok, calm down. We will handle this like have in the past, just me, you and the doctors. Have you told Tobin or any of the others how bad it's getting?" you shake your head "Maybe it's time you tell Christen. The two of you have been tog—“
“No! Christen doesn't need to know"
"And when will she? When she is calling an ambulance?"
Christine Sinclair had many abilities and the one you hated the most was how well she showed tough love.
"No Christen and no Tobin. This is my fight and I know how to handle it" you know that the conversation is no where near over but you don't have the energy to talk about it and you don't want to risk the rest of the team hearing you.
At first only you and the Portland Thorns team doctor knew about your heart condition but then your mom told Christine when the thorns were playing Gotham. She wanted someone to know about it in case you were to have an episode. They didn't happen all that often, especially as you got older, but when they did come they were bad.
Portland were in Houston playing the dash before the players would go to their respective national teams. It meant that you had to pack for 3 weeks away. You made your checklist, packed your bag and then went through the list twice, you had everything.
The Thorns ended up beating the dash 3-1 with goals coming from you, Tobin and Lynsey so when you arrived at camp you were all in fantastic moods although yours could have something to do with the fact that you would be seeing Christen for the first time in a month.
As you enter the reception you are told that you are the last to arrive and the team are in the conference room handing out room assignments. As you enter the room you eyes eagerly search for your girlfriend but she isn’t there, worry starts to set in and you nudge tobin who in suit shrugs her shoulders. So her girlfriend and best friend didn’t know where she was. You are just about to raise your hand to ask the question when you feel two arms snake around your waist.
“Looking me for” Christen says quietly as not to interrupt Jill.
You remove one of her hands and place a kiss on the back of it.
“I better not be sharing with Kelley again” You tip your head back to rest on her shoulder.
“You’ll be happy to know I persuaded Jill to let us room together but you have to be on your best behaviour”
“Me!” You turn to face Christen. Your increased volume becoming apparent when Jill calls you out.
“Is there something you would like to share with the team” Jill encourages you to speak up.
"Nothing she can repeat in front of the youngens, right Y/N?" Kelley teases.
The defender knows that you will bite straight away if the teasing had to do with your relationship, more so what goes on behind close doors. You are on the verge of retaliating when Christen places her hand over your mouth.
"Sorry coach, continue" Christen tells Jill.
The team meeting runs a little big longer than you had hoped. Jill taking this time to discuss the basic plan for the camp as well as assigning rooms and then reassigning them when she gets complaints.
You and Christen waste no time in making up for being away from each other. It might have been a few years since the two of you started dating but the way she makes you feel never failed to catch you off guard. The connection you shared reminded you of fireworks and no matter how many times they went off you always jumped.
The two of you cuddled in bed, covered in nothing but the white hotel bed sheets. Christen's head rested on your chest whilst her hand traced shapes on your stomach.
"Your heart feels like it is about to beat out of your chest" whilst Christen jokes it is a reason for concern to you.
You think about it for a second. The Thorns schedule has been gruelling recently and you knew that you were putting stress on your heart but it was fine, you were taking your medication then it hit you, you hadn't taken it this morning.
"My heart will always skip a beat for you" you stare up at the ceiling in fear that Christen will see your pain if she looks you in the eyes.
The pair of you get ready for training all whilst worry starts to sink deeper into your thoughts. Christen knew you took several supplements in a morning but she didn't know what they were and you wanted to keep it this way. When you are on your way down to the lobby you see your chance.
"I'll meet you down there. I forget to take my vitamins" You daren't use the word medication because you know it will cause her to worry. It's the reason why she has no idea about your condition. You saw what the worry did to your mom growing up and you wouldn't put that on your girlfriend.
Luckily Christen doesn't ask any questions and she doesn't follow you back to the room. By the time she gets to the lobby the whole team is there ready and waiting.
"What, no Y/N?" Pinoe asks her fellow forward.
"She forgot her vitamins" Christen says fully unaware of the looks that are shared between Emily and Tobin.
Emily tips her head towards the elevator and Tobin picks up on what she is suggesting.
You are rummaging through your bag hoping that you will find your medication but it is no where to be found. You thought you packed enough for the Thorns trip and the national camp but you hadn't. You didn't know what to do, you knew that if you told Dawn about it she would have you benched and that couldn't happen because you were playing Canada and the team needed you. The sound of someone knocking at the door pulls you out of your head. At first you ignore them, you had more important things going on right now and the person on the other side of the threshold could wait but the knocking continued only louder and more persistently.
"Y/N let me in"
Tobin, just the person you both wanted to see and did not want to see. When she enters she recognises the panic on your face immediately.
"You forgot?" Her tone reminds you of your mom and you didn't care for it.
"I'm fine now" It was a lie but you didn't have a choice  "I'm just tidying up. You know how much of a neat freak Chris is"
You had been taking this medication for 12 years surely you built up enough strength to live without it for a week.
Training was tough to say the least but you chalked it down to the Arizona heat. Tobin kept a close eye on you and even went out of her way to partner up with you during drills which pissed you off more because you wanted to work with Christen. Dawn watched you from the sidelines and at first you didn't think anything of it until you saw her whispering in Jill's ear.
When the coach calls you over in the middle of scrimmage, it gains the attention of the entire team. Players only ever got called out of a game when they were in trouble but Jill eyes wasn't filled with anger, they were filled with pity and your suspicions were confirmed when you saw Dawn mouth 'i'm sorry'.
"Do I need to be worried?" Jill asked.
Here's the thing with Jill. You know she knows and she knows you know she knows but the two of you have never spoken about it. She keeps an eye on you during training and Dawn let's her know if there is a reason for concern.
"No. I forgot to take my medication this morning so it's taking a little bit longer for it to work"
Another lie.
"You were struggling out there and don't say it's because of the heat. I have seen you when we play in Australia and you aren't phased at all"
"I'm already feeling better. Watch and you will see that I am fine" you shut down the conversation before it can go any further.
When you're back on the pitch you score within seconds and dedicate your goal to your coach with an arrogant salute. Instead of it making her believe you're healthy, your celebration makes Jill think the opposite. You are trying too hard to show her you are ok.
The next couple of days are more difficult than you would like to admit. You were tempted to ask for a personal day and fly back to Portland but it would lead to more questions and you were trying to keep your amount of lies to a minimum.
With game day getting closer and closer, you begin easing off the physical side of preparation. You took a back seat in training and when asked about it you stated that as your role as captain you want to use this time to pass on your knowledge to the younger players.
When it comes to the afternoon lift session, Dawn pulls you aside and tells you that you will be working alone. She puts you on the treadmill whilst the rest of the team focus on the weights. Her attempt at testing your fitness isn't as subtle as she hopes.
"Wait, why is Y/N the only one doing a fitness test?" Tobin asks. Christen wants to know the same thing. She had seen the change in your behaviour over the past couple of days. It happened in the blink of an eye, one minute your the confident player the world loved the next you are on the sidelines trying to catch your breath like a rookie.
"Because I am the fastest on the team and Dawn wants to see if I can improve my stats from last camp"
Your girlfriend buys it, Tobin on the other hand isn't so easy to persuade. In the end she walks away but not before talking to Sonnet who looks at you and shakes her head.
Great! You aren't well and now you have pissed off the two people that could out you to the entire team.
"I've seen you watching me and I'm fine but if I am sick then I will get worse by doing this" you whisper in Dawn's ear before setting the treadmill to 15 where you begin sprinting as if you have a perfectly good heart.
By the end of the treadmill test you can barely breathe. Dawn helps you to chair before getting you a bottle of water. You hear her shout of Christen and within seconds your girlfriend is by your side.
"Y/N breathe for me" Christen begs. She had never seen you this out of breath.
"It hurts" you clasp both of your hands over your chest. This couldn't be happening, not here, not now.
"What's going on with her?" Christen asks dawn.
"She is--" Dawn tries to answer but Tobin and Sonnet come running over.
"She took an elbow to the chest in our last game and it's causing her some problems" Tobin tells her.
"She'll be fine. Here, use this" Sonnet gives you an ice pack knowing that it helps with your chest pains.
Your hands shake whilst you hold the cold block to your chest, so much so that Christen ends up taking it from you.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Christen asks.
When you look to Christen you see the hurt you are causing her and this is because she didn't know about a tackle that didn't happen. In a matter of seconds you go from feeling pain to feeling guilty.
“I—" part of you tries to tell her the truth, even it it's only a half truth.
"It's best if she doesn't talk" Tobin cuts in.
Dawn tells you that you're done for the day and that Christen should take you back to your room. Your girlfriend talks to the performance coach in hopes that she can tell her what to do to make you feel better.
"I don't know what's going on with you but you cannot tell her when you're like this. She will think you’re ill" Tobin whispers in your ear.
"That's because I am ill and I always will be. She deserves to be with someone who isn't a burden" your breathing begins to even out.
"Y/N don't do anything stupid. You trust us with your secret, you can trust her too"
"No, my mom trusted you. I didn't want people to know because they look at me like—“
"Like what"
"Like that" you point at both of the friends "Like I'm broken"
Walking away you feel their eyes burning into the back of your head but you don't look back. Christen stands near the door with her hand extended waiting for you to take it.
Once back in your room Christen goes straight into the bathroom and begins running the bath. It is something that calmed the two of you but funnily enough you haven't done it whilst being at camp. Your girlfriend comes back out to find you laid back on the bed, your eyes closed with one hand on your chest. She can just about hear you counting your breaths.
"Join me" Christen says from the door way but she doesn't get an answer, you don't even move.
"Baby, come join me" the softness in her tone when she calls you the name that made you feel like you're the only girl in the world gets your attention.
"I think i'm just going to lay here for a while"
"Look at me" your girlfriend demands and upon doing so see her standing there in nothing but her underwear "I wasn't asking"
The smirk that pulls at your lips in uncontrollable. The sight you saw had the power to bring to your knees and the past had proven that.
"Then I won't say no" you stand and remove your shorts and as you walk towards her you remove your top.
Christen is the first to get into the bath and she slides forward so that you can slip in behind her. She grabs your arms, wraps them around her and then covers your arms with her own.
"I love you Christen Press" you place a kiss to her jawline "but if something were to happen to me then I want you to move on" you feel a tear roll down your cheek but you cannot wipe it away "Please don't waste your years mourning me and don't be afraid to open your heart to another. You wouldn't be betraying me and although i'll be gone, i'll always be with you, in here" you place your hand over her heart.
"Y/N--" Christens shifts her weight.
"Don't look at me"
This was strange. You and Christen are very open about your feelings and aren't scared to be vulnerable around each other but whenever you shared these moments you wanted to feel as close to her as possible which lead to the two of you having eye contact.
"You are my one true love Y/N Y/L/N and should the worse happen, that will never change. I cannot make a promise to move on because I am not in control of my heart but I will promise to let love in should it come to me"
"I will love you Christen until my last day on earth and then long into the afterlife"
This time you don't stop her as she turns in the water so her legs are either side of you. You craved her touch and reassurance that everything would be ok only she couldn't tell you that. That night Christen makes you forget about how this pain in your chest has ended in the past and you don't think twice about whether you future is going to last a year or ten years.
Game day came on day 5 without your medication and you were starting to regret not going home to get them. Sleep had become nothing more than a long nap and every time you ran it felt like a marathon. Still you had been able to downplay your struggles and Jill put you in the starting 11 despite being concerned about you.
You knew there was one person you couldn't fool and you did your best to avoid her until the whistle. At the pitch inspection you stayed away from the Canadians but you saw Christine staring at you from a distance, by the look on her face you knew she knew. When she tipped her head towards the tunnel so she could speak with you, you shook your head.
"You should go see her" Christen nudges towards where your club captain is standing.
"And fraternise with the enemy. I would much rather fraternise with you" you whisper in her ear.
It seems that Christen buys your distraction as she doesn't bring it up again even when Christine waits by the locker room after the warm ups.
You think you have managed to evade your friend's questioning but when you stand in the line waiting to go out you have a bad feeling in your gut so when Christine walks by you grab her arm and pull her back towards you.
"I didn't bring enough medication with me" you confess.
Up until now you haven't been scared but the look Christine gives makes you feel just that.
"How long?" she keeps her reply short given the crowd of players that surround you.
"5 days" You see Christine eye up Jill as she walks past "No, don't. I can handle this game but you need to know if case something happens"
"What makes you think that?"
You bring you hand to your chest "gut feeling" you reply.
Once gain Christine's expression changes and the worry is not something she can hide. She pulls you into her arms and whispers in you ear.
"I know you can handle it especially when playing so be smart out there kid"
And that is exactly what you do or at least for the first 50 minutes it is. All of sudden you feel your chest tighten and you feet give way underneath you as your body goes into fight or flight response. You do everything in your power to fight but it is too hard. Within seconds you are laid out of the floor, instead of your heart beating rapidly it is slow, too slow.
"Y/N, what's wrong?" Christen kneels beside you.
Your eyes lock onto her, she is the reason why you want to fight but your lack of response does more harm than good. The team don't know what is happening so they don't call the medics over.
"Is it your heart?" Tobin asks having no care in the world about who hears her.
"What's wrong with her heart? Is this about the knock you took?"
You had been dreading this moment but somehow it has turned out worse than you imagined.
"I'm" you take a deep breathe "sorry"
"Why are you sorry? Tobin what is she sorry for? What is going on?"
Tobin looks at you and you use whatever energy you have left to shake your head.
"Sincy" you look at Tobin and she understands what you want but she doesn't want to leave your side.
Emily picks up on this "It's ok, i'll get her"
The defender turns to get your team mate only to see the opposing captain already running over.
"Move out of my way" Christine pushes her way through the white shirts.
"Sincy, it hurts" tears start to fall as fear begins to set in.
"Tobin get your medics now"
Christine looks at your team mates but her gaze ultimately falls on your girlfriend who looks petrified. Christen has one of your hands in hers, squeezing it so tightly that part of your fingers have turned white.
"I don't want to die" your words earn gasps from your team mates. Some of the Portland players are trying to hold back from crying as they know what this could mean.
"You're not going to die" Christen places a kiss to the back of your hand "Why would you die? You can't die. Christine" Christen looks up to the older player only to see her holding Tobin in her arms as she tries to console her "Tobin" at the sight on her best friend in tears she knows that something much bigger is going on.
The medics come running onto the pitch and in that very moment you realise that the secret you have kept for the last 27 years is about to come to light. When one of them starts asking question you know that you don't have it in you to answer them,  a mixture of not wanting to and not having the ability to.
"She has a heart defect and hasn't been taking her medication" Christine says when she realises you wouldn't say it. Your club captain proceeds to explain your condition in detail as well as your medical history.
"No" Christen shouts "She is fine, tell them you're fine Y/N. You're not sick, you just took a knock in your last game. I know you're not sick because you would have told me, we don't have secrets" tears are flowing freely down your girlfriends face.
"Y/N" Christen whispers when she feels your hand slowly loosen it's grip from her own.
"I don't want to die. I wan’t—" your breathing hitches once again as your bodies tries to inhale a much oxygen as possible.
"Baby, no" Christen leans forward and rests her forehead against yours.
"I'm sorry. I love you" those are are the last words you say and Christen is the last thing you see before it goes black.
"She's going into cardiac arrest. I need everyone to back up so we can try and save her life" One of the doctors say as the other one sprints away in search of the defibrillator.
"No, i'm not leaving her" Christen holds onto your unconscious form. It is only when Ashlyn pulls her away does she let go and begins sobbing into her friends arms.
The team stand there, helpless, as they watch the medics try to resuscitate you. All of them feeling a mixture of emotions. Some are angry at you, why didn't you tell them things had got this bad. Others feel guilty having known nothing about your condition, they begin wondering if the signs where there and they had just been too ignorant to see them.
Christen feels every emotion under the sun but the strongest one of them all is rage. You were her girlfriend and not only did you keep this from her, her best friend did too. You were the two people she trusted the most in the world yet today made it clear that trust wasn't reciprocated.
You are loaded into an Ambulance and taken the the nearest hospital. Christen is asked if she wants to go with you but she says no. The game gets suspended and the teams head back into their locker rooms. The US players planned on getting changed and heading straight to you.
The atmosphere in the locker room is something that neither of them have experienced before.
"You knew!" Christen shouts at Tobin.
"Chris" Pinoe tries to pull your girlfriend towards her locker but fails.
"No, I deserve an answer. My girlfriend was sick and you didn't tell me"
"It wasn't my secret to tell Christen. She made us promise not to tell you"
Tobin's words didn't exactly instil faith and calmness in her friend.
"Us?" Christen takes a step back and she scans the locker room. Now that's she is looking, it is very obvious who knew and who didn't "Emily, Lindsey. You knew too" Christen couldn't believe it.
"I didn't know things has gotten this bad. Y/N has episodes but she handles them on her own" Emily tells her.
"She doesn't like to talk about it" Lindsey adds.
"And Christine Sinclair knew" It isn't a question. The woman's action on the pitch made it obvious that she is very aware of your condition.
"I did"
Turning around Christen comes face to face with the women she was talking about.
"I have known since the beginning" the invisible spotlight that was placed on Christine made her nervous "I'm going to the hospital. Come with me and I will tell you everything"
Christen quickly replaces her boots with a pair of trainers, grabs a jacket and follows your captain.
Christen sat in the hospital waiting room alone. The seats either side of her remained empty because although her teammates wanted to support their friend, they knew it was just as important to give her space. It didn't make sense at first, you being ill, but then she begins replaying some of your recent conversations. Obviously the one you shared in the bath a few nights prior wasn't as hypothetical as Christen thought. Did you really think that Christen could move on from you?
"Family of Y/N Y/L/N"
Upon hearing your name the entire USWNT flock towards to the man clad in scrubs.
"I'm her girlfriend" Christen says as she stands directly in front of him.
"I'm sorry her file says to only discuss medical matters with direct family or Christine Sinclair, is that you?"
Christen couldn't believe what she is hearing. Even when you are in god knows what condition you are still determined to keep this from her.
"That's me. This is Christen Press and you can discuss Y/N's condition with her" Your friend has had enough of your secrets, Christen deserves the know the truth and at this point she knew that you could no longer hide it but that you would still try.
"Unfortunately Y/N coded again on the way here. Her heart had to work overdrive just to beat regularly and in the end it couldn't take it"
"No, She" your girlfriend couldn't believe what she was hearing "She can't die"
"She's alive Miss Press" The doctor confirmed "What I meant is that her heart couldn't take it which lead to the incident during your game. I spoke with her doctor in Portland and we agreed that minor surgery was needed until she can have a full exam when she returns home. Y/N is in recovery right now for observation then we will move her to a private room. I will have someone come get you when she is allowed visitors"
Christen stands frozen in her spot. Her mind, body and soul had grieved your death twice now even if it wasn't permanent.
"This is a good thing Chris" Tobin ignores the looks she gets as she talks to her best friend.
"How is this good Tobin? She almost died, no she did die. I lost her"
Tobin tries to pull Christen into a hug but she fights it. She takes her anger, which is rightly or wrongly is aimed at you, out on Tobin before surrendering.
"How could she not tell me Tobin? I'm suppose to be her person, she tells me she loves me yet—“
Christen is cut off before she can finish her sentence.
"You really don't get it do you" Christine says. After speaking to the doctor she found a seat near your Portland team mates "Y/N does love you more than you realise. It is the reason why she hasn't told you. I know that doesn't make sense but it does in her mind. Y/N has never told anyone about her heart condition"
"That's not true. You know, Tobin, Lynsey, Emily and I guess Becky knows, oh and dawn too, maybe even jill"
"You're right but that's not because Y/N told us. Her mom is reason why we know. She told us for this exact reason, in case something happens to her daughter and she isn't there to help her. In Y/N’s eyes she was protecting you by not telling you"
"That does sound like Y/N" Ashlyn sees sense in what the Canadian is saying.
"It doesn't make it ok"
"No it doesn't and for what it's worth Tobin has been begging Y/N to tell you since you started dating" Christine comes to her team mates defence.
Christen knows deep down that none of this was Tobin's fault and that her reaction was uncalled for. The way Tobin looks at her is something she has never seen before but then it hits her. You might have been her girlfriend but you are Tobin's best friend.
"I'm sorry Tobin. It just the thought of losing her is—“
"I know. It's scares me too"
When the pair hug, the team awe in response. For a brief moment the energy changes but it doesn't last long.
"Y/N is awake"
Having not needed to be told twice, Christen heads straight towards the nurse.
"You're going to have to wait sweetie. Y/N only wants to see Miss Sinclair"
It hurt. Once again you were choosing Christine over her and quite frankly Christen has had enough. A huge part of her wanted to say 'screw you' and leave. If you didn't want to see her then she wasn't going to stick around.
"Let's go get a coffee" Pinoe suggests which Christen agrees, Tobin follows in suit.
The three of them return just as Christine is storming through the hallway. Clearly nothing good happened in your room but it wasn't clear if the bad thing was related to the incident or something else.
"Christine, wait" Christen grabs her hand as she strides past them "What's wrong"
"She's unbelievable and all yours. I'm done"
Christen heads straight for you room, alone. The rest of the team know that there is conversation that needs to be had between the two of you and they had no right to be a part of it.
The sight itself is worrying. You are laid in the hospital bed, hooked up to several hospital wires and have a nasal cannula which is helping you breathe. All in all you didn't look well and it made the next words that came out of your mouth that much more frustrating.
"Don't look at me like that, i'm fine" your attempt at reassuring your girlfriend seems to have the opposite affect.
"No more lies Y/N. You're not fine. I watched you die, do you know what that was like?" Christen starts the speech that she had been planning in her head for the last couple of hours.
When you see her eyes begin to well up you want nothing more than to get out of the bed and comfort your girlfriend but you simply didn't have the strength. Instead you used what strength you did have to move over slightly so there was room for her near you.
"Come here"
Christen does so happily. Even though she is mad she has been craving the feeling of being in your arms and the solace it brings her.
"You knew this would happen. It's why you talked about you dying when we laid in the bath. You held me in your arms and we had a conversation which you knew could happen whilst I thought you were being hypothetical"
"I meant what I said. When I die I want you to move on with your life, not live in the past, in our past" once again you cannot bring yourself to make eye contact with your girlfriend.
Christen hovers her hand over your chest before placing it on your heart. The room goes quiet, enough so that you can hear her counting the beats under her breath. She is worried about you and you knew what the next couple of months would look like. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. You never wanted things to come to this and you certainly didn’t want to be the reason for Christen’s pain. It’s why you know the thing you are going to next is the right thing to do.
“Why did Christine leave?”
Well it looks like Christen is going to be the one to initiate the conversation only she has no idea what is about to come.
“I told her i’m not going to have the surgery when I get home. If I do then I'll miss the olympics and that isn’t something I am willing to do. I am going to have another minor surgery and work with the doctors so that I make it until the summer”
Christen lifts her head so she can see your face and what she is met with worries her. You are blank, almost emotionless but it was the facade you chose to put up in order get through this talk.
“No! You—“
“Christen the last few years we have shared have been incredible and I wouldn’t change a thing. I know you are mad at me for keeping this from you but I don’t regret it. If I had it my way you would have never found out. I wanted to protect you from the pain that comes with my condition because I saw what it did to my mom and I won’t have you going through the same worry”
“Y/N” Christen doesn’t like what she is hearing.
“I love you Christen Annemarie Press more than anything in this world and it’s why I can’t be with you”
Her eyes well up within seconds. Her breathing becomes erratic and it matches the increasing beeps on your monitor. You may be calm on the outside but the wires hooked up to your chest tell a different story.
“No. You don’t get to tell me your dying then break up with me, that’s not how this ends, I won’t let it” Christen refuses to acknowledge that you have decided to end your relationship.
“Chris” You reach out for her hand but she pulls away just as your fingertips touch.
“Why are you doing this? We’ve talked about our future, marriage and kids. I may not have known you were sick but you did and you still had those conversations. Were they lies too?”
You get up out of bed against your better judgement. You ignore the pain in your chest and the rapid beeping coming from behind you.
“I never lied to you, I withheld the truth, there is a difference. Those conversations we had were a fantasy, one that made me look forward to a future I knew I might not have. I am doing this because I love you way to much to break your heart just because mine is already broken”
Your emotions are starting to get the better of you whilst Christen has tears rolling down her cheeks. It was naive to believe you could break up with the love or your life and not have her fight for you.
“You are so selfish Y/N” Christen’s sadness has turned into rage “I am willing to stand by your side though all of this and you are pushing me away. You are making a decision for our future without letting me have a say”
“I might not have a future Christen!”
The volume of your tone is the last straw. Doctors who had been monitoring your vitals come rushing into the room to make sure that you are ok, your team mates follow in suit.
“Miss Y/L/N I need you to get back into bed before you rip open your stitches” One of the nurses try to usher you back toward the bed but you don’t move.
“Christen, Listen to me. I am doing this because I love you, one day you will see that. I have to let you go”
Christen waits in your room to hear you out but she doesn’t respond before leaving.
When you are back in bed you cannot bring yourself to look at any of your team mates. There are those that knew and some that didn’t. You chose to stare out the window and your friends leave one by one, soon enough it is just Tobin and Emily in the room.
“You’re not getting the surgery?” Emily asks you. She had been the one to follow Christine to find out what happened.
“I can’t. I want to go to Tokyo and I can’t if I get it. My doctor said the risks are very high given the stress that my heart is currently under and he’s not sure if it can take it. I meant what I said on the pitch, I don’t want to die” The blonde understood your reasoning and didn’t question it any further.
Tobin on the other hand. She has had enough with your stubbornness and you knew that a lecture was coming.
“Please don’t” you beg her
“You two were made for each other and you just threw that away, why?” Tobin asks you.
“Because it easier to mourn someone you hate than someone you love”
The next month was tough. You were back in Portland, a place you called home, but you had never felt more alone. Your friends were mad at you for not getting surgery, even Christine only spoke to you when her captain duties called for it. Christen spent the first week after the incident texting and messaging you. She was fighting for your relationship but you couldn't step into the ring for her.
You had to take a temporary step back from the team to recover and get back to a place where you can play high level soccer. You released a statement saying that you were stepping away in order to focus on your health. You didn't give the fans anymore details and they respected your wishes, the press on the other hand, well they wanted to know what the damage was.
Truth is you missed your friends and the loneliness that your stubbornness caused became overwhelming which only made things worse. Your doctor was pleased with the improvements you were making but after the first few weeks things took a turn for the worse. The temporary surgery you had in Arizona had reached its limits a lot sooner than your doctor had hoped.
It was three months later when it came to a head.
"When do I have to make the decision?" you ask.
You had just completed another round of tests and as you sit in your doctor's office you can tell by the energy in the room and the lack of eye contact of his behalf that things weren't good.
"I would like to do this as soon as possible and before you ask, it is my recommendation that we do the full repair"
"But what about the risks? I want to go to Tokyo and you said the best way for me to do that is to have the smaller surgery and reevaluate when I get back"
"Y/N if we don't do this surgery I cannot guarantee that you make it to the summer"
"So what you're saying is I have the surgery or become part of the 27 club?" You let out a small chuckle but nothing about this was funny.
"I'm sorry things have come to this and I know it isn't what you wanted"
"It's ok, these things happen" It was as if you had already admitted defeat.
When you get up from your chair it's as if time had slowed down. You walked over the window which ironically looks over Providence park. You had made so many memories there and you truly thought you would have years to make more, now though you're not too sure.
"Can I give you a piece of advice?" your doctor stands beside you "Talk to someone. It doesn't have to be about this but you can't close yourself off from everybody. You shouldn't keep your friends at arms length Y/N, they are there because they want to support you"
"I don't want to become their problem"  you confess.
"I made a promise to someone but they're not my patient you are" He goes back to his desk "Christen Press calls my office once a week to get updates on you"
You were both happy and angry after hearing this. On one hand it was nice to know she still cared but you had been killing yourself, literally, so that you could keep her away from this and your doctor has been telling her anyways.
"You had no right"
"No I didn't but it was the right thing to do. That women loves you Y/N. When faced with death most of my patients live life there's no tomorrow. They do all the things that are on their bucket list, they make memories with their friends and confess their feelings but you, you have done the opposite. You refuse to see or speak to anyone unless it is unavoidable and you push away the woman you love most in this world. I made a decision, one that I won't apologise for"
At this point your doctor was like family so he didn't mind calling you out when your were being stubborn or stupid.
"What if I hurt her?"
Dying doesn't scare you because you had been preparing for it your entire life. Being the reason that Christen cries herself to sleep at night, that is one of your greatest fears.
"You already are by pushing her away"
You knew he was right. It became obvious the moment you broke up with her but in your eyes you were hurting her a little bit now in order to keep from hurting a lot more later on.
"Can I call you tomorrow with an answer?"
"Of course"
When you leave his office your phone feels like it's burning a hole in your pocket. Every part of you wanted to hear Christen's voice but something was stopping you.
Ignorance had been your greatest ally as of late. If you weren't at the hospital or at rehab then you would tell yourself that you are healthy but you were no longer able to ignore the uncertainty of your future. Portland has been home since you went No1 in the draft so subconsciously you take yourself to Providence park which isn’t all that strange considering it’s about this time of day when training ends. You stop at a poster of you and Tobin after you won the championship last season, the two of you looked so happy and carefree.
"It's a good photo" you don't need to turn around in order to know who is there.
"Y/N and Heath, Portland's unstoppable force" It was a nickname that the fans gave the both of you years ago and it has stuck ever since.
"Well one of us is" Tobin jokes.
"I guess I deserve that. I've missed you Tobs" you hug her tightly with a force that she returns.
"You're scaring us Y/N. Everyone is worried about you. Christen isn't herself, she is barely sleeping, every time she closes her eyes she sees you on that pitch or worse. She told me the other night that she finds herself walking through cemetery and it is your headstone that she goes to"
"I never wanted any of this to happen. I just wanted to protect her, you do know that don't you?"
"Of course I do and she does too. I know you don't want to talk about it but please tell me you're getting better" Tobin pleads.
"I wish I could. I'm not going to go into detail because I don't want to put you in a position where you have to lie but I need to have the big surgery, the one I have been putting off, and i'm not sure if i'm ready to have it yet"
"You're scared?" Tobin asks and you nod "You will make the right decision Y/N and I know you want to do this alone but if you want me to then i'll be by your side through it all"
The offer meant more than Tobin knew. You truly thought that your behaviour over the past couple of months had burnt the bridges that you call your friendships.
"Thank you Tobin"
She joins you as you wander the city but after an hour she picks up on the fact that you wanted to be alone and before leaving she reminds you once again that she is only a call away should you need her.
You find a bench that over looks the water. You put your earphones in and dial Christen's number, praying to the higher powers that she answers, she doesn't. It didn't come as a surprise, you didn't deserve her time. You try again only this time you decide to leave a voicemail.
"Hi bab—, sorry I mean Christen, it's Y/N. I have been told that I should talk to someone and you are the first person that came to my mind. I—“
"Y/N? Are you ok? Is something wrong"
"Christen?" you pull your phone out of your pocket to see if the call has connected "you didn't pick up, I thought I was leaving a voicemail"
"Sorry I was in the shower. Is everything ok?"
"I want to talk to you but I need you to treat me like the old Y/N, not the weak and broken Y/N"
"You're not broken Y/N. You are human and sometimes humans get sick"
"Chris, please"
"Girlfriend Y/N or cocky and confident Y/N? Just so I know which Y/N I am speaking to?" she chuckles slightly as she allows herself to get lost in the game are playing.
"The one that loves you unconditionally"
"My favourite Y/N"
You ignore the butterflies that you feel when you hear Christen's voice. Despite everything that is going on with you and her, she still manages to calm you down without even trying.
"I remember the first time you took me home to meet your family, I was so nervous. I know how much they mean to you and although you are this independent woman who doesn't need anyones approval, you still wanted theirs and I thought for certain I wouldn't get it"
This was news to Christen. She couldn't have imagined this is how you felt given the way you strode into the Press family full of confidence and not willing to let anyone get in the way of your relationship.
"I didn't know that"
"Can you remember the end of the night when you Dad asked to speak to me outside?" you hear Christen hum on the other end "That was the calmest I had been the entire night"
"Y/N, that doesn't make sense"
"It does because I knew the 'nobody will be good enough for my daughter' speech was coming. He asked me if I deserved to be in his daughters life and I said no. It was an easy answer because although I had known you for a few years, we had only being dating for a few months and in that time you showed me just how amazing you are and part of me knew from the moment I met you that you were too good for me Christen. The next morning Channing and Tyler cornered me in the kitchen and asked me the same type of question. The only person who didn't was your mom"
"She told me to tell that she's really mad at you"
"She'll have to get in line. Can I continue?"
You take her silence as a yes.
"Your mom asked me why I don't trust that her daughter is making the right decision. I said because i'm not capable of loving you like you deserve and whether it be in one year or ten years, I will break your heart"
"Y/N"
"She told me breaking someone's heart isn't always a bad thing because if you have the power to do that then they must love you with every fibre of their being and that isn't something to be sad about. She said when the day comes, I won't do it on purpose because if I do then I would be hurting myself in the process"
"When the day comes? She knew?"
"I asked myself the same question. Her words were filled with so much comfort that I was sure she did but it wasn't possible"
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because I knew from day one that this wasn't going to end well and I pursued it anyways. I was selfish and I have hurt you when I spent years making sure that didn't happen"
When the line goes quiet you are sure that Christen has hung up. You wouldn't be angry if she did, it was nice of her to give you the time that she had.
"Can you remember the night before the world cup final when we walked the streets of Paris?"
This is how the rest of the night went. You and Christen went back and forth sharing your favourite memories from your time together. Every so often she would change the subject to your health but it was only for a second then she would go back to her story.
The night draws in and the temperature drops but you are too content sitting by the water, admiring the view and talking to Christen. A dog comes running up to you, the bark makes Christen question where you are.
"Y/N where are you?"
"On a bench"
"You should go home"
"But I don't want to say goodbye"
Both of you go silent. The heaviness of the words you just said bring back the reality of what has been going in.
"There's no reason for you to say goodbye" Christen says and it's obvious even she didn't believe the words that are coming out of her mouth.
"Chris"
"No, I won't have this conversation with you over the phone. If you want to say your goodbyes then you do it in person"
"I love you and my heart, as broken as it may be, belongs to you and it will do until my last day on earth and then long into the afterlife"
A strong sense of Deja Vu hits you and Christen. You had said this before but the meaning is different now.
"Stop"
"I need surgery Christen and the risks are high but if I don't have it then I don't know how long—“
"Y/n, please" Christen begs you from her end of the phone "I know you broke up with me and I know why but I love you"
"Christen, stop. I can tell what you're thinking. Please don't come to Portland"
"But I want to be with you"
"I am only a phone call away but I need space to do this ok?"
"I want to make a deal. No more radio silence. You call me every day, whether it is a good day or a bad one. I'll give you your space but I need you in my life"
Christen's determination was admirable and you wouldn't expect anything less.
"We have a deal"
"Pinky promise?"
"Ok"
"I need to hear you say it"
"Christen I pinky promise to call you everyday"
You decided not to get the major surgery. Life is short, you know this more than most, so you took your chances and worked with the physios to get you fit and healthy in time for the summer. It was difficult and there were days that you felt like giving up but you persisted, maybe a little too hard.
The bad days came along more than the good days but you kept your promise to christen. You called her everyday, sometimes twice.
You were promised a spot on the olympic roster if the doctors cleared you. It didn't matter if you didn't take part in the camps. The staff and players knew you belonged on the team, you could take a year off and still step on the pitch like no time had passed.
Just before the send off series, a rematch against Canada was organised. Due to the history of the fixture both teams felt they owed the fans a full 90 minute match. They agreed to have the game in Portland seen as though the city means so much to you.
Christen wanted to go to your apartment as soon as she landed but in the end she chooses to respect your wishes.
Your absence in the locker room was obvious. It was the first time that the national team had played without you in years and each player struggled with the thought of not having you on the pitch with them. Christen kept checking her phone every few minutes, you hadn’t had your morning call and something didn’t feel right. What she saw next seemed to add fuel to the fire.
“You can’t wear that?” Christen says when she watches Mallory change into her shorts. There on the left side was the number 7.
“Y/N told me to wear it” Mal’s defence was honest. She remembers getting the call from you, at first it was strange but then you explained the reason why and the young forward saw it as an honour.
“She would never do that” it is Tobin who speaks up “It’s her number and she wouldn’t give it up, not when she knows she’s—“ your best friends stops herself when she realises what you have done.
“When she’s what?” Mal asks.
“Never mind” Tobin retreats to her locker where she tries to call you only to get your voicemail.
The game ends in a 1-1 draw. Both halves were uneventful but the post match press conference made up for that. Canada goes first and as Christine Sinclair sits down she has no idea what she is in for.
The US team watch from the changing room given that their captain is next and they want to see what she gets asks.
“Christine do you have a comment on the latest news regarding your Portland Thorns team mate Y/N Y/L/N?”
It was a question that threw not only her off but the entire USWNT locker room. As far as they were aware you were recovering well and on track to return to the team.
“What news is that?” Christine says as she ignores the pit that is forming in her stomach.
“What are they talking about?” Christen asks Tobin. The insecurities of been left in the dark regarding your condition come straight to the surface.
“I don’t know” Tobin tries to hide her worry.
The journalist who asked the question remains quiet. It was clear that Christine didn’t know what he was talking about and he knew that a press conference wasn’t the right place to tell her and he shouldn't be the one to do so.
“Tell me, please” Christine encourages the journalist.
“I have a source that tells me Y/N was brought into OHSU this morning by ambulance and that she was rushed into emergency heart surgery” she can tell by the tone of his voice that he didn’t want to say it.
“This press conference is over” Christine leaves and heads straight for the opposing teams locker room.
The room that holds your team is so quiet you could hear a pin drop. They were all in a state of shock that left them frozen in their spot. The first to move is Emily who calls your number time and time again hoping that if she does it enough then you will pick up. Tobin is next, she calls you mom who doesn’t answer either.
“Hello”
Christen’s voice fills the locker room.
“Ok, I understand”
Her team mates watch and wait for her to tell them something, anything. Christen takes a deep breathe before turning her attention to the team.
“That was her doctor’s office. All they can tell me is that she is in surgery”
Christen takes a deep breath. A few days ago she begged you for honesty and against your better judgement you gave it to her. You told her everything and what followed was never part of your plan. After cooking a meal together over face time Christen asked you to say goodbye and you knew you owed her that. It wasn't a sad goodbye and you didn't talk about your past. You talked about a life where you are healthy, get married, have children and live long enough to grow old together then at the end you said your goodbyes.
It is the reason why Christen remains in her locker when the rest of the team get ready to go the hospital. Even as Christine comes to tell them the news that they already know, she remains still and calm.
"Christen, get your stuff together, we need to go" Tobin tells her.
Yet she doesn't move.
"I'm not going"
"I understand that things aren't great between the two of you but this is bad and she needs you"
That's the thing, even though you wasn't dating, you and Christen were in a good place. There were no more lies between you and it made your friendship stronger than it ever was.
"I've already said my goodbye and I don't want my last memory to be of her in a hospital bed"
The team couldn't believe what they were hearing. They had no idea you were at a point when goodbyes were necessary.
Given the seriousness of the surgery you were having, most of the team decide to go back to the hotel while a handful of them went to to the hospital.
Christen however asks for space and the team give it to her. She doesn't go back to the hotel, instead she goes to your apartment and uses the key you gave her to let herself in. She goes straight to your room and gets changed into a pair of your joggers and grabs a hoodie as she brings it up to her nose she takes a deep breathe in, it smelled just like you.
She gets into your bed, the one that you shared many times before. Then she gets her phone, opens up your thread of messages and scrolls until she find the one she is looking for. It was a voice note followed by the text 'don't listen now. Wait until it's time'. At first she thought it was vague but right now she knew now is the time you were referring to.
Hearing your voice knowing that there's a chance she won't hear it in person again brings Christen to tears and all you're doing is mumbling words of frustration as you have knocked a drink over whilst recording.
"Sorry about that. Now, what was I going to say? Oh yeah, I love you. It's been a while since I have told you that but if you're listening to this then i'm guessing you need to hear it. I know you are scared right now but I want you to know everything is going to be ok, I promise"
"How can you promise that?" Christen says to the phone.
"And I can promise that because you are one of the strongest people I have ever met"
She laughs at little at how much you know her.
"I know we said our goodbyes but now I want to say thank you. Living the life I have means that I have cherished everyday I've spent on this earth and those days have been better than I could have ever imagined because I got to share them with you. You see I was determined not to fall in love but then you came along and I found out how naive I was to think I had a choice in the matter"
"I didn't have a choice either Y/N" she replies as if you are there in the room with her.
"I never feared death growing up but now the thought petrifies me and it's because I have something to lose and somebody to live for. I want a future with you, I want to marry you, will you marry me? No Y/N what are you doing you can't ask the women to marry you over voice note pull yourself to together"
A small chuckle escapes christen's lips are she listens to you tell your self off.
"Would you marry me?"
She had never heard you sound this unsure before.
"I would" she answers your questions.
"I hope you said yes otherwise this next part is going to be very awkward. I take it your in my apartment right now and in my bed, if I am correct then you can open the draw to the left of you where you will find a small box"
Christen's interest had spiked. How did you manage to plan all of this over a voice note. Just as you said she finds a red box and awaits further instructions.
"Open it"
She does so and finds a diamond ring.
"This ring is open for interpretation but for me it's a reminder. Should I die I want you to remember the love that I have for you. I bought it during the world cup but I told myself that I would only give you it after I had told you about my condition. Can I class this as me giving it to you?"
You are about to answer your own question once again but out of nowhere you begin coughing and Christen winces at the sound. She doesn't know when you recorded the message but given that you are in surgery she can guess it was recorded in the last couple of days.
"Sorry, give me a minute"
Christen listens as you try to get your breath back.
"I really hope this is not the last time you hear my voice" she can tell you are scared.
"My dying wish is that you find peace"
"Don't say that" Christen begs.
"I truly am sorry for the pain that I have caused you. I never wanted it to happen. Goodbye my love"
Christen waits for you to say to more but you don't. That is the last part of the voice note. She lays in your bed long enough to watch the sunset through your window. In the same draw that held the ring is a photo album, one that you had made. There were photos taken over your career, of you and your friends and quite a few of you and her.
Later that night Christen receives a text from Tobin saying that you are out of surgery and that you should wake up in a few hours once the anaesthesia has worn off. Then she received a second message saying that you had woken up but Christen stayed in your apartment. When her phone goes off again she assumes it will be Tobin asking why she hasn't come to visit but that isn't the case.
Have you been watering my cactus?
Christen cannot believe it. You have just had major heart surgery and this is the thing you say.
You don't need to water a cactus. They live in the desert.
I knew that. I was just testing you.
She doesn't get the chance to respond before you send another message.
I know I scared you. Will you come and see me? It doesn't have to be today, it can be in a couple of days or whenever you are ready. It's not like I can go anywhere.
I'll come by the day after tomorrow. You need your rest.
You were disappointed to receive Christen's reply. You may have been surrounded by your mom and close friends but the only person want to see wasn't there.
Just as she said, Christen walks the halls of the hospital two days later. She finds your room but cannot muster up enough courage to go inside.
"She's ok" your mom's voice causes her to turn on her heels "The wires make it look worse than it actually is"
"I don't know if i'm ready to see her like that yet" Christen admits. It was the reason why she had waited this long to come.
"I understand but she has been waiting for you. You were the first person she asked for when she woke up"
"Is she alone?"
"No Tobin is in there with her now. She hasn't left the hospital since she got here after the game but she was asleep when I left. I'll give you some time with her" and with that your mom walks away.
The door to your hospital room opens and you are expecting your mom or more doctors but instead it is the person you love most in the world.
"Hi"
When you see Christen you notice the dark circles in her eyes and the way her smile is forced. You look her up and down as if doing your own inspection and that is when you see it.
Christen is overcome with emotion as she saunters over towards you and before you can say anything her lips are on yours. Nothing in this world compared to moments like this, when your connection with Christen is proven through a small act of intimacy.
When you pull apart Christen sits on the side of your bed.
"Nice ring" you hold her hand up just enough to see the diamond glisten in the lights.
"Crappy proposal"
At least now you know Christen listened to the voice note and wasn't just snooping around.
"It's wasn't a proposal remember? And I don't recall telling you which finger it was for" There is a hint of playfulness in your voice but the truth of the matter is you were happy to see Christen wearing the ring but then she takes it off and gives it to you.
"Y/N you gave me this ring because you thought our story was over but it isn't. Regardless of how long it is, we have a future together and I want to spend it with you so no more running, no more secrets or lies and no more protecting me from this" Christen gentles rests her index finger on your heart "You may not have proposed but right here I take the vow to love you in sickness and in health and to be your partner in the good times and bad"
You didn't know what to say. Christen knew everything and she still chose to stand by your side. You always said you didn't deserve her and now you know this more than ever but the difference is you are determined to spend your life making up for the years you spent keeping her in the dark. You will earn back her trust and show her just how much you love her.

Announcement
Tumblr media
Christen Press x Reader
This is the second part of Recall. Hope y’all enjoy!
masterlist
———
Y/Instagram is live
———
That was the notification Christen got on her phone early in the morning. She got out of bed, careful not to wake her fiancé, and clicked on the notification so fast.
———
“Uh, hey guys. It’s been a while, huh?”
Christen stared intently at you, eyes going over all of your features. You looked different, good different, great even, she thought. You’d cut your hair short, it no longer reaching to your shoulders, your face was more defined. You looked a lot healthier from what she could remember five years ago.
“Where have you been?
I’ve been home. I, uh, moved away five years ago, far.
Where tho?
Spain, actually. I just got up and left, no clue what I was doing, just always wanted to visit and its now become my home.
What have you been up to?
I’ve still been writing songs and producing songs for people, good friends of mine. Okay, I actually have to go, but I went live for a reason. I have an announcement to make. I know I’ve been away for a long ass time, but to my supporters, thank you for sticking by me even with not hearing or seeing me for five years. I appreciate the hell out of you.
Now for the announcement, I am doing a concert in a week from today, Saturday. I don't know if I’ll do anymore concerts after that because the life I’ve built while I was M.I.A. is something I don’t want to change, but you never know what could happen on the future.
Tickets go live at midnight. I am signing off, and if you can make it, I will see you there. See you when I see you.”
———
Spain and concert. That’s all Christen got from the live.
You’d been in Spain the whole time, not like she’d know. She didn’t know what to think after seeing you for the first time in five years. It was through a screen, but it was still you.
She wants to see you in person and going to your concert might be the only way to do it.

All You Can Eat – Emily Sonnett x reader (smut)
Tumblr media
Summary: I mean, the title kinda says it all
Warnings: smut with the tiniest bit of plot ;)
Tumblr media
Normally, Emily was the one in the relationship to do all the cooking. It wasn’t that you couldn’t cook, you just didn’t like too. Plus, Emily’s cooking just tasted better. Tonight, however, was one of the rare nights that you were in charge of dinner. Emily had a late practice tonight and knowing she would be tired and hungry after, you told her you would make dinner.
You decided on something easy that you knew Emily would also enjoy, pasta. How hard could it be? You just boil the noodles and dump them in sauce. Simple. Sure you could make something a little more complicated but pasta was good and there’s no way you could mess it up.
You were just pouring the noodles into the boiling water when you heard Emily walk through the door.
“Babe?” she called out, you could hear her taking her shoes off, before setting her keys down.
“In here love” you called back.
Stirring in the noodles, you felt two arms wrap around your waist. Emily’s front to you back as she held you. She placed a kiss to your neck sending shivers down your spine. Leaning your head to the side to allow her better access, you tried to focus on the pasta in front of you.
“Someone’s needy today”
“Just missed you” Emily said, placing more kisses along your neck, her fingers softly moving against your lower stomach.
Turning around in her arms you place a kiss to her lips, your arms wrapping around her neck pulling her closer. Emily nips at your bottom lip before pulling away slightly causing you to frown.
“What are you cooking?” she ask, her fingers squeezing your hips.
“Just some pasta,” you say before turning back around to check on the noodles.
Emily rest her head on your shoulder, her fingers still taunting you. In another pot you put sauce, stirring it around trying to focus as Emily’s fingers trace the waist band of your shorts.
“Babe, I’m trying to cook” you push back against her.
This only eggs Emily on more as she grips your hips pulling you into her so your body is flush against hers causing a gasp to slip out.
“I’m not doing anything, just admiring my girlfriend cook dinner,” you can her the smirk in her voice.
She kisses the back of your neck before resting her head back on your shoulder. It's becoming harder to concentrate as need pulses through you.
Emily lets out a chuckle as you almost drop the spoon you were using to stir the sauce when she bites at your sweet spot.
You could feel how wet you were getting, “Em, please.”
“Just keep cooking baby” she says against your neck, her hands slipping slightly under the waist band of your shorts.
Cooking pasta never requires that much attention but your mind was now completely preoccupied. One of Emily’s hands dipped into your underwear, her fingers tracing down your slit.
“You’re so wet for me,” she moaned biting at your ear.
You lean back against her, one hand gripping the edge of the stove the other grabbing Emily’s forearm. Her fingers lightly brush against your clit causing you to moan. Her fingers softly work at your clit, you try to move your hips, needing more, but Emily’s other hand has a firm grasp on you hip holding you in place.
Taking her hand out of your shorts, Emily brings her fingers up to her mouth sucking on them.
“so sweet” she moans.
Turning around in her arms to face her, you grab her neck pulling her in for a kiss. You can taste yourself on her lips as your tongue traces her bottom lip.
“I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you,” Emily said in between kisses as she moved down your neck “its been distracting me all day.”
“Em, please” you say with a whine.
That was all it took for Emily to lift you up, your legs wrapping around her waist, before she sat you down on the counter away from the stove. Lips never leaving yours, her tongue slips in your mouth, while her hands knead at your ass. Moaning your rock your hips forward needing some kind of friction. Pulling away, Emily takes your shirt off, sucking and biting at your collarbones as she slides your bra straps down your arms before taking it off.
“Gorgeous,” she mutters, her hands tracing up your sides.
You nipples are hard under her gaze. One of Emily’s hands comes up to play with your nipple, softly teasing. You can’t hold back a moan as Emily’s mouth connects with your nippl,e her tongue swirling around it. Your hands find her hair as you arch into her touch. Emily’s hands run down your thighs, scratching gently before moving back up to your shorts. You lift your hips to help her get your shorts off, the cold air hitting your center causing you to shiver, goosebumps spreading across your skin. Emily grabs your hips again pulling you to the edge of the counter, her thumps stroke at your inner thighs making you clench around nothing.
“Look at you baby,” she says leaning back to look down at you, “already a mess for me.”
“Emily just touch me already,” you say, your body thrumming with need.
Emily arches an eyebrow at you moving her hands down you thighs, further away from where you need them. You huff in annoyance. Emily had worked you up and was taking her sweet time with you.
“Want to try that again baby girl?” Emily ask, her hands barely touching you now.
“Please touch me, I need you so bad,” you say with a pout.
“That’s better,” the blonde smirks at you.
Emily leans down pressing a kiss to your lower stomach as her hands move you legs apart even further allowing her full access to your core. You’re practically dripping and cant help the gasp that leaves your lips as she nips at your inner thigh. Emily knees down on the floor in front of you placing your legs on her shoulders.
The sight of Emily between your legs almost has you coming undone without her even really touching you yet. Her fingers scratch up your thighs before she grabs your hips holding you in place.
“god, I don’t think I’ll ever get over seeing you like this” Emily says before licking up your slit.
Your fingers fist her hair trying to pull her closer, “Emily please.”
She gives in to your plea, her tongue finding you clit circling it before licking down to your entrance dipping her tongue in. You moan arching back as her nose brushes against your clit. Licking back up you, her tongue finds your clit again and you grind your hips into Emily’s face.
“Do you want my fingers baby?” the blonde ask, pulling away for a second.
“god, yes”
“Yes what?” Emily stops what she’s doing causing you to whine.
“Yes please.” You say and are rewarded with two of her fingers entering you.
Emily’s tongue goes back to your clit, this time with more pressure. Her fingers start off slow, building you up but the combination of her fingers pumping in and out of you as well as her tongue on your clit has you overcome with pleasure. Emilys free hand holds your hips still, keeping you close to her face. She picks up the speed of her fingers, thrusting into you hitting your g-spot with each thrust perfectly timed with her tongue. You feel your orgasm begin to build low in your stomach.
“I’m so close baby,” you manage to get out.
“Be a good girl and come for me,” Emily says, her fingers somehow increasing their pace.
Emily swirls her tongue around your clit, gently sucking. Her actions send you over the edge, your orgasm washing over you. Moans and Emilys name fill the kitchen as Emily works you through your orgasm. Your breathless as you come down, Emily licking up your juices, pressing the occasional kiss.
“You did so good baby,” Emily says as she gently takes your legs off her shoulders before standing.
You pull her into your body, wrapping your legs around her waist. Emily tucks some of your hair behind your ear before kissing your lips.
“The pasta,” you say, pulling back with a jolt.
You could smell the food burning, the scent burning your nose, Emily just laughs pulling you back to her.
“It’s okay baby, I just ate” she says with a wink.
Rolling your eyes you here her stomach growl. You look at her with one eyebrow arched.
“Okay so maybe we can just order food,” Emily offers.
“I like that idea,” you say pulling her back in for another kiss.

Okay I have an idea is this good?
Vivianne Miedema x !FemReader
The match was intense. Viv and her team Arsenal were playing fiercely while the Chelsea players were determined to come out winners. As the clock ticked down to the last few minutes of the match, tension was mounting and it seemed that an explosion was about to happen.
Then it did. Viv, the Dutch Arsenal forward, had pushed hard in an attempt to gain a scoring advantage. With anger on both sides, they tussled and a scuffle broke out that resulted in both players receiving yellow cards.
Y/n’s teammates came to the defence of her and stepped in to separate them both. Viv was still seething as she backed away and the players eventually managed to transfer the game back to the field of play. The match may have ended in Chelsea's favour, but the animosity between these two sworn enemies had not gone unnoticed.

18 ➷ l. horan
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: lindsey horan x reader
summary: a cute moment between two lovers when their favorite song comes on. lyon!reader, french!reader
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
you heard the door close making you look away from the puzzle that you had assorted the pieces to their color. you saw lindsey walk through arched doorway giving her a soft smile, as she opened her arms while walking to you.
“give me a hug, baby.” lindsey said, as you stood up wrapping your arms around her waist as she held you in her arms.
“tough day at training?” you asked, as she gave you a soft nod. you didn’t train today as you weren’t cleared by the physio, you had suffered a knee injury during the game against france vs australia, where it had lead to penalties.
“you know what would make it better, mon amour?” you asked, with a grin on your face as lindsey chuckled at your mischievous look.
“what will?” she said, as she hummed.
“alexa, play 18 by one direction.” you said, as alexa continued the command. lindsey laughed at your silliness, as you gave her a bow holding your hand out.
“really?” lindsey said, as you just gazed up at her and nodded. she accepted your hand, as you pulled her closer.
i got a heart, and i got a soul
you watched as her eyes sparkled at you, the tiredness has gone away and she looked at you in adoration.
believe me, i will use them both
one of your hands was on her waist, as the other was in the air, interlocking on of her hands with yours as you took a few steps around the shared apartment.
we made a start
you thought about the moment she went pro, she first played for colorado rush and had three appearances for the team. before her transfer to paris saint-germain a fellow french professional team.
you didn’t like the idea of how they treated her there, it ruined a part of her so you were determine to stay by her side, even if you were miles away.
be it a false one, i know
didn’t everyone tell you that it was a reckless decision? being a couple, young and in love? however, it worked between the two of you. you had been together since you both were 18, and now you were both here dancing in the dining area at 29.
baby, i don’t want to feel alone
you weren’t one for being alone, you enjoyed it yes. however, you were clingy when you needed to be. it annoyed others, but for lindsey it didn’t. she actually loved your clingy side, the cuddles you’d give her, and how you would talk about topics you were passionate about.
so kiss me where i lay down, my hands pressed to your cheeks, a long way from the playground
you were training on an empty pitch one day, lindsey joined you as she had nothing better to do, and she also wanted to spend time with her girlfriend. during the break, you’d lay a blanket underneath the nearest tree and would simply lay on it.
she’d kiss you, and you’d have your hands pressed to her cheeks which made the kiss even more romantic.
i have loved you since we were 18.
you were utterly in love with the blonde that you had met in the youth team. however, you made your debut for the senior team of your father’s country as the us already had a good line up.
it was the tulips that you’d give her every day, you’d pick them and removed the thorns so she wouldn’t get pricked by them.
long before we both thought the same thing, to be loved and to be in love
would you believe me, if it took you both a long time to realize your feelings? you both wanted to focus on your soccer career, yet you noticed this when you saw her hanging out with someone else.
to be in love was one thing, but to be loved was a whole other story.
all i can do is say that these arms are made for holding you, oh-oh
if there was one thing you’d love the most, it was holding lindsey in your arms, in the middle of the night, when your watching a movie, or out of the blue when she’s cooking.
you always told her that your arms were made for holding her, which she found true.
i wanna love like you made me feel when we were 18
when you were both 18, it was indescribable. there was the happy stage, the little quarrels that you’d have but you both solved, the lessons you learned.
it made you both grow as individuals, as a pair and as a person. you were glad that you met lindsey horan, the love of your life.

Just like in 2019, all anyone wanted to rag on before the yours was defense.
Centerback pairings and keeper arguments and put Crystal higher and on and on and on.
But my biggest concern was always the fact that we can’t seem to score. Sophia making a breakaway is incredible until there’s a team that’s effectively stopping her like the Dutch. We need to focus on the attack.
