Yumichika had been prepared to give his life for Soul Society. Even when Soul Society crumbled at the start of this war, taking away so many people he cared for and looked up to, he had stood his ground. A member of Squad 11 did not give up under any circumstance.

But this was not just any circumstance.

A new kind of death had found them. So absolute it was, that every soul who had ever lived, and every plant and creature and element in existence, would soon disappear like infinitesimal specks. No trace left behind. No tears, no memories, no strength, no hope, and all because they were too late to save what held everything together. It had all been in vain... and the thought of stepping into that endless void left Yumichika spinning in a blind and all-consuming fear.

A voice came through. It brought him back to reality - at least, what little remained. The room had caved in about as much as it could have, separating the shinigami from each other in the process. As solid ground shook beneath him, Yumichika forced himself to turn around and respond. Determination hardened his face; he knew what he had heard. They were already close enough that he didn't have to maneuver much, and then warm arms encircled his back, possessing him, sharing a spark of life.

The other man knew what was happening too. Why he wanted this, Yumichika could not say. Why they chose to say their goodbyes to each other, and in this manner, was a mystery; but as the kiss deepened, he found he didn't care to know. He didn't care because he lived for the now, and right now Kisuke Urahara was kissing him with passion and sincerity as if they'd been lovers for decades. Yumichika let his hands tangle in the soft blonde hair, begging him not to stop, holding nothing back. Maybe people did crazy things when the chance would never come again.

Finally he broke away from the kiss and hugged Urahara tightly as sort of a closure to the moment. Warmth and pounding heartbeat surrounded him. He was not alone; they would share this ruin together. It was time to be brave. It was time to live, because this was the last experience his soul would ever undergo. Their lips met again briefly, then faces tucked together over shoulders, hands rubbing soothingly. He didn't speak. Anything there was to say could be felt instead, so he closed his eyes and held on, willing himself to focus on this and nothing else. 

That way when the end came, he wouldn't even notice.
