The Baron takes a moment to himself to think about the differences between himself and his goddess. He isn't left alone for long, and is joined by a fellow Sarenite to listen to his rarely spoken thoughts.

Earlier today I wrote a small piece about Vio and Tristian, and got encouraged to post it on Ao3 so here's the link too. Our dear aasimar is turning out to be more similar to his goddess than originally anticipated.

I'm gonna be soft over VioTris again. Tristian's backstory is sooo similar to Vio's. A Taldan boy raised in a Keleshite temple and a Keleshite raised in an Absalom temple... both as Sarenrae's special chosen little guys... neither knowing who their parents are aside from the priests who stepped up to raise them...... It's so much. It's sooo much. Like no wonder Vio clicked with Tristian immediately.

Thankfully this format lets me describe it however I want to get the point across.

71. 24 Hours to Live 40. Almost Kiss

So imagine it. It is the Season of Bloom, the barony is falling victim to the Bloom. The next victim to the Bloom, however, is the Baron himself. Vio is a tough man and a healer in his own right. He did not want to take resources away from the people even if they could save him. It's not until near the very end, when he can tell that there's no saving him now, that he reveals it to his companions. The barony will likely fall with him, but all he wants is for the people to be cared for.

Tristian knows better than anyone that the Bloom is not contagious and they choose to spend that last day by Vio's side. Prepare to keep whatever creature that emerges from wreaking havoc. Vio had already revealed his interest in Tristian, in part due to Octavia and Regongar's shenanigans, and their own interest had been piqued from the very beginning. In those final moments as Vio's symptoms got worse, Tristian began to wonder. Could they do it? Would it be alright? Do they deserve to be able to indulge those feelings they know are mutual, if just for a moment? At the last second they decide no, they don't deserve it. And then the end comes.

VioTris and quiet?

Quiet between the two isn't a bad thing. Sometimes there just aren't things to say, and it's a comfortable silence. But sometimes, especially when Vio is preoccupied with something and doesn't realize someone is around to listen, Tristian will find him humming old hymns to himself. Songs that they sing during Sarenite services in the Stolen Lands, as well as songs that never made it outside of Absalom except in Vio's memory. He's no talker but he does have a fair voice from the years of singing. And sometimes, when it's just the two of them, Tristian will chime in with a little harmony.

having a grand time thinking about VioTris because I got the breakup scene right at the beginning of Chapter 4 and. Man. It's gonna be a time. Vio is Not happy right now. He is genuinely mad at Tristian for taking that into their own hands and making the decision on their own and then praying to Vio's mom for him. The audacity. Tristian why are you risking the wrath of the tiny Inquisitor.

Vio and Tristian - Regret

something something Tristian's crimes

There's been a lot of regret in the relationship over the years. Tristian over everything they'd done, Vio in those first days after the betrayal regretting that he'd so blindly trusted Tristian... But that's the past angst and regrets. They've managed to move past it. Mostly.

Tristian is still guilt-ridden and working towards atoning for what they've done. Vio, despite every effort to forgive and move on, still has trouble letting it go some days. And on those days, sometimes he snaps. He'll get angry at Tristian over it and, honestly poor Tris doesn't have much of an argument. A bit of a pity party still. But after Vio catches himself he'll leave to cool off for a little bit and then apologize for losing his temper. He's working on getting it back under control still.
