🍗 Keg & Lantern 📍 Brooklyn, New York ✍️ 4.96 / 10 . Keg and Lantern in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY was part of wing night bang-bang. Our first stop was The Huntress, whose wings were surprisingly good. Keg & Lantern on the other hand ... well, let's just say they had some good beer 🍻 . The dry rub we ordered allowed the wings to be at least somewhat crispy on the outside, but they were also way overcooked. Bleh. Do us a favor: go to the grocery store and buy a can of off-brand chicken noodle soup. Now run it through a strainer to get rid of the broth, and then toss out all the noodles and vegetables until you only have the little bits of chewy, squishy, slimy chicken. Now eat those chicken bits to understand what these wings tasted like. The dry rub was fine. We'd suggest going for a sauce if you insist on eating these wings. Aside from the wings, we really like this place. They brew their own beers and they're pretty damn good at it too. We had a farmhouse style "Bier de Garde" and a Kolsch. We thoroughly enjoyed both of them, especially because they were our only lifejacket as we were drowning in chicken wing despair 🌊 . Final thoughts: definitely go check this place out if you're in Greenpoint and want a chill place to go for beers. 🍗 The Huntress 📍 Astoria, Queens, NY ✍️ 8.2 / 10 . We took to Astoria, Queens, NY for a couple days. We weren't familiar with the wing scene in Queens, but a few local reviews pointed us to the Huntress. The Harry Potter-style font and the deer antler taps told me that The Huntress is going for a particular theme: a medieval style tavern set in the woods. It was a little gaudy, but kind of fun and cozy. The atmosphere was perfect for a date night or just a casual beer with good friends . The Huntress’ wing menu was interesting. With options such as “Sticky”(Japanese Hoisin sauce with crumbled feta) and “Crispy” (Korean style wings with guava-rum bbq sauce), it was definitely a tough decision. It was evident that the Chef likes to experiment. We ended up going with the “Snow” wings, which were covered in a dry rub and drizzled with white BBQ sauce. It was savory, spicy, and not too heavy. The wings themselves weren’t huge, but they were certainly well-cooked. The meat had just the right amount of juiciness, and the skin was nicely crisped. . We were really happy with the wings at The Huntress. The exciting and creative flavor combinations were quite fascinating, and we definitely want to go back to try more.
