— “i participated in a lot of beauty pageants when i was a kid,” you spoke to the camera, mentally preparing yourself for the teasing you were about to receive from the boys — who all oh’ed. 

“did you win?” jungwon asked with a smile.

embarrassed, you smiled, “yes…”

“how often?” 

“all the time?” jake said cheekily, smiling widely when you grew shy.

“hm,” you tried to laugh it off, “i did win,, quiet often,” 

the boys, niki and sunghoon especially, yelled. heesung leaning forwards to shake you by the shoulders. one of his hands squished your cheeks gently, “pretty (name), our pretty (name),”

you hid your face in your hands curling into yourself. niki, who you would describe as your biggest anti, laughed at your obvious embarrassment and laid his head on your shoulder.

— “and here we have (name) and jake,” sunghoon introduced, zooming the camera in on you resting on jakes shoulder. 

jake put his finger to his lips, “be quiet, our (name) is sleeping,” 

sunghoon walked closer, camera focusing on your sleeping face. his free hand caressed your cheek, “ah, so cute. our (name) is so cute~”

with the hand that wasn’t holding his phone, jake reached up and patted your head with a satisfied look on his face.

— you walked through the door, wearing a beautiful dress with equally beautiful accessories and hair. a silence fell over the room when you closed the door behind you, eyes turned to you. you leaned against the door, growing shy at the attention. a few of the staff began complimenting you, cooing as you grew flustered. 

jungwon and heesung were by your side in a flash, compliments falling from their lips. jay came as well and took your hand and made you twirl, dress flaring out. everybody cooed and awed. 

“noona, you look so pretty,” jungwon, your beloved leader, complimented as you turned your back to the room and hid your face in your hands. 

“stop teasing me,” you mumbled. 

“we’re not teasing you, we’re telling the truth,” jay said. he placed his hands on your hips and spun you around to face the room, “you look beautiful,”

— “noona’s voice is so pretty,” sunoo complimented, focused on you recording your parts.

jake agreed, “honey voice,” 

“noona always get her parts done quickly,” sunoo continued to the camera, “she’s in and out,”

you stepped out of the booth, waving to the camera, “what are you talking about?”

“you,” jake answered, standing up from the couch, “and your beautiful voice,”

you pressed your lips together, turning your head away from him. 

he chuckled, messing with your hair when he walked past you.

you sat down where he was previously sat, sunoo on your left. sunoo laid his head on your shoulder, “you do have a beautiful voice, noona,” 

“... shut up,”

your hand went to cover his face in a weak attempt to shut him up. he laughed, burying his face in your shoulder.

— “noona,” jungwon called you over to him and niki. he had just confessed to once getting valentines day chocolate from one of his friends. 

“hmm?” you pushed your hair over your shoulder, making sure it didn’t get stuck in your clothes.

“noona, have you ever gotten white day chocolate?” niki asked, looking up at you.

the camera panned to you, “yeah,”

they both ooh’ed, teasing you as you smiled awkwardly, “how many times?”

embarrassed, you laughed and turned away from them. they protested loudly, catching the attention of your bandmate and old classmate, jay. 

“what? what?” 

“hyung! you and noona were classmates right?”

“yeah,”

“have you ever seen her getting white day chocolate?”

jay nodded, “yeah. she once had a whole bag filled,”

you protested, not wanting him to make the information public, “jay! shut up!”

“eh?!” niki’s mouth fell open and jungwon looked at you in shock, “seriously?!”

jay nodded, laughing at your flustered expression, “didn’t you have two full bags in our third year?”

— jay entered first, then sunghoon, then you. you were half hidden behind sunghoon until you stepped out onto the white platform where the boys made space for you between them and you properly came into view of the other contestants. 

“wha,,”

you were too far away and too nervous to hear the sounds of awe coming from the others. two of the girls that were already seated, leaned closer to each other, “is that fair? her face?” they giggled, eyes zoomed on you. “don’t let me stand beside her,, seriously. i’ll look like a trashcan,”

you chuckled nervously, “they’re all staring,”

jay leaned closer to you, “aren’t you used to that?”

you rolled your eyes at him and he smiled. 

“she’s seriously pretty,” 

“very pretty,”

“(name) has a pretty voice,” bang sihyuk put his papers on the desk, “and she’s a strong performer,”

“ah,” rain and zico made noises in acknowledgement. “she looks like a manhwa character,” zico commented, laughing along with the other two when they saw how the contestants kept stealing glances at you.

— “(name)!” the radio host turned to you, eyes on the cue card.

you peaked up, ignoring heesung calling you cute. 

“there is a rumor going around,” the host's eyes went to you. 

your nose scrunched up, already knowing what was to come. 

“that when you were in school,, your desk was so filled with letters and gifts that it broke,”

your band members snickered while your face flushed in embarrassment. you shook your head and waved your hands around, “‘t’s not true, it’s- ah,,” you hid your face in your hands, “over exaggeration,” you managed through the embarrassment. the boys burst out laughing, clapping and hollering.

jake, who was sitting next to you, ran his hand up and down your back in comfort through his laughter.

“it’s true! it’s true!” jay laughed even harder when you protested his words. when everybody calmed their laughter (except niki, who found your embarrassment the best entertainment), you repeated your denial.

“it’s not true. but,,” you hesitated and the boys and host chuckled again, “there was a lot on the last day before summer vacation,”

jay, your ever so helpful, ex classmate, opened his mouth, “so many it letters they fell of her desk,”

“yeah, why are you so quiet?” sunghoon pressed on, leaning closer to you.

niki egged on, “thinking about being the mafia?”

“niki!” you gasped, feeling betrayed by the boy you called your child, “i’m not the mafia!”

“jake?!”

“you sound very suspicious, (name),” jay continued. they all grinned when your mouth fell open in disbelief.

“okay, (name) is one of the mafia!” heesung concluded, smiling widely.

— “i’m nervous,” you confessed, through the curtain.

heesung, the one who had picked your outfit, was confused, “why? why?”

“yah, park jongseong,”

jay laughed, “just come out. you look fine,”

you sighed before pulling the curtain aside and walking out. the guys oo’ed, heesung giving himself a pat on the back.

“you look pretty,” sunoo complimented, looking over your outfit, that consisted of a big long sleeve and a skirt.

heesung beckoned you to turn around and show the graphic design on the back of your shirt, “hm,” he smiled, “i did well,”

— “niki.” you firmly said, “don’t. i don’t wanna get my hair wet,”

the youngest took slow menacing steps towards you, arms out ready to grab you. your back to the pool.

“nishimura. nishimura riki. don’t.”

a smile began growing on his face as he came closer to you. two big steps and he was right in front of you. his arms wrapped around you and he pulled you into the pool with him, water splashing everywhere.

you surfaced, removing water from your face. the rest of the boys laughed as you tried to dunk niki under the water as revenge.

“what warm weather we’re having today,” you commented, walking along the path. your uniform shirt was tucked into your skirt, a shoulder bag hanging by your side. the cameras followed you as you walked, “i hope there’s something nice for lunch,”

before you rounded the corner a guy in the same uniform as you walked towards you with his hands in his pockets. a few steps behind him came a hoard of boys running, screaming at you to run.

you held back a laugh and stepped to the side, so they could run past you. a few tried to pull you along but you evaded with a grin.

you laughed as they ran past you before walking after them with peppy steps. you ended up besides the first boy who had walked towards you, “eunkwon?” you read his name tag, “nice to meet you,” you introduced yourself with a bow, him mirroring you.

“you’re almost late!” the teacher shouted, “you!” he pointed at you, “who are you? i’ve never seen you before!”

you held back a laugh, smiling politely instead. you bowed politely, hands folded in front of you, “hello. i’m a transfer student. today’s my first day here,”

“ah how polite,” he said hello as well, “go ahead,”

“we sometimes had gym class with the boys and we would play dodgeball. you know how whenever a girl gets the ball, they boys start yelling and screaming?”

wooyoung chuckled, leaning against your arm.

“i hated it, so whenever i got the ball and they’d start shouting, i’d walk to the front line and roll it over. i told the other girls to do the same, until the boys caught on and stopped yelling.”

“did you give them the ball then?”

“yeah,”

the all burst out laughing. chuckling along, you stumbled a bit as wooyoung leaned more of his weight on you.

“i didn’t want to play in the first place. i just did it cause i had to,”

— the boys shuffled in, laughing quietly, “(name)~” seonghwa called out in a hushed tone.

you reacted with a quiet hum, eyes closed.

“how are you feeling?”

“tired,” your voice was a low whisper. curling your body into itself, “you’re loud,”

— jongho silently walked behind some of the boys to get to you. you were sorting through some of the hair bands that had been given to you, trying to find one to put on. he poked you on the arm, “noona, fix me please,”

he pointed to his own hair accessory wooyoung had put on him. it had gotten all tangled up in itself.

wordlessly, you did as he asked and he dutifully moved his head to make it easier for you to see what you were doing.

the onslaught of clicking noises coming from the cameras made him chuckle.

“done,” you fixed the front of his hair as well, pushing it to the sides so his eyes would be more visible.

“thank you,”

he picked one of your headbands, a cute one with sheep ears, and put it on you. the sound of adoring shouts came from both the atiny in the room and the rest of the boys.

— you wrapped your arms around jongho’s shoulders, pulling him in for a hug.

it was nearing the end of the final concert of the tour and jongho’s emotions had caught up to him. you had seen him turn around during his segment and hadn’t wasted a moment going to him.

his tears landed on your bare shoulder. you paid no mind to it, running your hand up and down his back.

the rest of your boys had crowded around you and your youngest. mingi was the first to wrap his arms around you and jongho, then wooyoung was quick to join in, then yunho. eventually everyone was roped into the hug and what had initially started as comforting jongho ended up with a cuddle pile in the middle of the stage.

note, this is a mess of tenses im so sorry if its unreadable also tw !! lil mention of diets and watching your weight !! when i say lil i mean that it's just that it's just mentioning it not going into any details <;33

cannot stop thinking about jay as your classmate. he would meet you at some corner every morning and you walk the rest of the way together. if you texted him about running late and not having time to eat breakfast, he would make a quick stop at 7/11 to buy you a granola bar and a cup of cut out fruit along with something to drink so you'll last until lunch. him having a folded up spare umbrella in case you forget yours; he would share his until you part ways, giving you his good one and taking the folded one for himself. wishing you a good rest of your day and a goodnight, promising to meet you again tomorrow.

jay pulling you with him in crowded hallways, walking in front of you to move people out of the way, having a gentle grip on the sleeve of your blazer or making sure you're holding the back of his so you won't lose him. he teases you when you find a new letter somewhere and helps carry the snacks and drinks you get from admirers. he would give you some of his lunch, putting it on your tray ignoring you saying something about diets and watching your weight. if he sees there's only a few slices of something he knows you love he takes it and saves it for you. he would encourage you to make friends and eat lunch with them but you always find yourself sitting with him.

speaking of encouraging you to make friends; he's so supportive! hyping you up before you speak to other people, knowing how nervous you get. if you wanted him to he would stand right behind you, running a hand over your hand or back to ground you. having an agreement with him to focus on different things during class and swapping notes with him after. having study dates in the library. jay moving to block the sun from your face when you fall asleep. finishing your work for you and swearing up and down he'll never do it again, only to do it next time again.

jay carrying your bag for you, swinging it over his shoulder along his own no matter how much to complain and try to take it back. you and jay having quiet conversations in the back of the classroom, ignoring the rest of the room. missing the looks from your classmates who would later speak out about how it looked like you two were the only people in the world and it felt wrong to break the calmness surrounding you both. jay walking with you to the company, sharing a plate of tteokbokki you got from a random street vendor, recharging your energy before hours of practice.

jay who still, years after you've stopped going to school and years into your debut, walks with you every morning to work, buying tteokbokki for you to share after a long day, eating it on your way home. who still walks in front of you, this time in the airport, making sure you hold on to him tight or him you. who still carries your bags; times when you're spotted shopping together, you only holding your purse while he holds all the bags, smiling teasingly when you protest.
