“You said that part already. About your brother,” Gwen grumbled, dropping her chin back onto her crossed arms and closing her eyes. All she could see was darkness, anyway, with the mask on, so what was the point of straining her eyes any further?

“How are you going to sort it out to the Ministry that I’m a person if they’re not going to listen?” Nobody listened when they dragged her from her home, after all. She spoke plain English. She told them to stay away, that she didn’t want to hurt anybody. But they didn’t listen. They treated her like a rabid beast, masked her, and threw her in this bloody cell.

Aurelia ate as she listened. The simple conversation away from anything concerning the last week letting her start to pretend it didn’t happen. Perhaps that wasn’t the best way to deal with it. But pretending it didn’t happen, let her ignore the confusing feelings that she had but couldn’t name. 

“I can do my usual rounds too,” she offered. “Check on some of the minor injuries that we know of.” She usually helped him with a mix of feeding and care like that. And she liked it. She liked the time with him and the creatures.

“Lost At Sea” (either newt or theseus to molly or angel?)

As roguish as he was, Mollymauk absolutely detested pirates. They disgusted him with their catcalls, their drunken shenanigans, and their utter disregard for intelligent life. He made it a point to follow every pirate ship he came across and cause as much chaos for them as he possibly could, with the intention of eventually causing them to sink. The lavender merman had many tools at his disposal, the most useful of which was his lilting voice, which could bear a hypnotic siren song or a harsh infernal screech. The first would lure any swashbuckling scalawag into leaning over the railing just to catch a glimpse of his handsome form in the water below. The second would pierce their minds, scaring them into losing their balance and falling overboard, sending them to a watery grave. Or worse.

Molly had pulled the same routine several times in the last decade. Drowned many a ruthless cutthroat. Devoured some, if he was desperate enough for food. But he’d never regretted doing so. In fact, it brought him immeasurable satisfaction. Until, of course, one smarmy captain finally got clever. Avantika was a right terror of the seas, and not one to fall for the same trick twice. After losing a good portion of her crew to the siren’s antics, she’d wisened up and fashioned earplugs for them out of candle wax. The only person on the ship without them was a prisoner.

Molly’s song drew him to the side, as expected, but scarlet eyes narrowed when they zeroed in on the lone victim. Wild ginger curls. Handsome freckled face. Wide innocent eyes. This was no pirate. As the mermaid scrutinized him further, he came to the conclusion that this beautiful man was, in fact, bait. Captain Avantika was attempting to trap him. “Real cute, pirate scum!” he called out, keeping his distance from the ship. He didn’t care whether they heard him or not. “I can still drown him from further than a net’s range, though!” To prove his point, he let out a bellowing, borderline demonic screech, watching the man with pity as he clutched his head and fell overboard. As soon as he heard the splash, Molly dove under the waves and made a beeline for the rapidly sinking man, nimbly avoiding being caught by the nets that had been thrown overboard.

His muscular purple tail, dotted with nine spots of crimson, propelled him onward, and in no time at all he was dragging the man back up to the surface just behind the ship. “Sorry about that,” he muttered, “but I wasn’t about to just leave you with them. Hold on tight to me and your breath, if you can, and I’ll see if I can get you back to dry land.”

A grin spread over the blond’s lips as he looked over at the Auror. “True. I could. But we might not be alone for much longer,” was his bittersweet response. They were standing in Fancy’s kitchen, having just watched the coven matriarch leave to go deal with a thing at Niyah’s school. She’d left them with a warning not to leave the house before she got back, as she still had questions for Theseus about his intentions. Tancred was honestly just relieved that she hadn’t immediately thrown both of them out.

After a quiet moment of pondering the day’s stress, however, his eyes wandered back over to the handsome Theseus, taking in all of the man’s beauty before lingering on his lips. “Then again,” he mused lightly, finally striding over to lay a gentle hand on his soulmate’s chest. “Why not make the most of every-” he punctuated the word with a light kiss. “Fleeting-” another kiss. “Moment?” Yet another kiss, but this one was a bit more sensual, lasting much longer. His other hand found the side of Theseus’s face and caressed it preciously as his lips continued their tender embrace of the other’s.

Queenie held their son to her shoulder as she tried to burp him and looked at the scar Theseus mentioned. She sighed, and gave a small nod. “I’m glad,” she said softly. “I wish you hadn’t gotten it in the first place.” She moved the baby boy to be cradled in her arms, rocking him back and forth. They’d only had a couple months with their son before Theseus had gotten hurt and it’d scared her. She looked down at her baby boy. “Did you hear that, Theron? Daddy’s almost all better.”

At the sense that someone was watching her, she looked around and caught Newt staring at her. “What?” she asked, laughing slightly. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

I mean, I’d really hate to overstep, or anything...” The tiefling’s tail swished behind him as he made a show of being unsure, which lasted about half a minute before he pulled Newt into a passionate but brief kiss. “Kidding! But I’m glad you’re comfortable enough with me to say so. That really does mean a lot to me.” His smile grew softer as he gave Newt another kiss, lingering on the other man’s lips like the last drops of a glass of sweet wine.
