Scans from limited Yoichi Nagasawa book published in 2002 featuring his various dualist works. My interpretation of these exhibitions is that Nagasawa was questioning how identity of an entity is often defined by its relationship to another entity. These pieces only actualize in their full artistic form when they are shown together with one another. It makes me think of other objects that have symbiotic relationships with each other regarding identity. A belt is just a piece of leather until it is secured on pants and a shoelace is just an enforced string of cotton until it closes a shoe. A knife can be a kitchen utensil, an art tool, or a murder weapon depending on its relationship with the other entity.
