#you think we're getting a twilight midnight sun movie

Sooo since you’re reading all three books at the same time, did you notice if Edward tells Bella about Jaspers ability to manipulate emotions in midnight sun? I was listening to it in the car recently and it seemed like all of a sudden Bella just knew about jasper and I’d only heard the part where he tells her about Alice lol. Sorry if you cover it in your podcast, I haven’t made it all the way through yet, but I thought it was super weird!
PHEW okay i'll have you know it took me several minutes to track down the exact scene because I couldn't remember if he mentioned it while talking about Alice's gift or if it were during another one of their funky little 'time to interrogate the other person because we're claiming to be in love even though we've only been on speaking terms for 4 days now' scenes. (spoiler alert: its the later)
in the Midnight Sun hardcover copy it's on page 412, chapter 18—Mind Over Matter (during the scene where edward is telling bella what his entire family "[brought] with [them] into the next life")
"Jasper is very interesting. He was quite charismatic in his first life, able to influence those around him to see things his way. Now he is able to manipulate the emotion of those around him—calm down a room of angry people, for example, or excite a lethargic crowd, conversely. It's a very subtle gift."
in Twilight you can find the same quote in chapter 14 (also called mind over matter) on page 308 in the hardcover copy!!!
can't remember if we dig down into that quote or not but we do cover these chapters and these scenes in Episode 14 that came out last month!
its even funnier when you think about how the Twilight movie didn't acknowledge Jasper's ability at ALL which is how we get the fucking incredible "JasPER!! nO fAiR WiTH THE MOOD CONTROl tHiNG!!/" line in New Moon (that Bella yells across the crowded Forks High hallways) 10/10 scene. so stupid. so amazing. I love it
if you have any other podcast questions feel free to ask us on @threebooksoneplot—the odds that G might have the immediate answer to a question I spent 20 minutes looking for is intensely high, and there are probably other people who have asked this same question!!—it's really a blink-and-you'll-miss-it line.

Three ships: Contrary to what my ao3 archive may lead you to believe, I'm not much of a shipper. I think I've only ever shipped two things in my life--Pearlina (Splatoon 2) and Sonuckles (Sonic the Hedgehog). I'm not a hugely romantic person in life (vague dunno noises about sexuality and romantic attraction--other than the fact that I love Katie to death and back.) so I don't find romance in most media franchises that interesting. I'm generally more into family/found family/sibling relationships.
First ever ship: Sonuckles lol. I love their silly antagonism but dedicated friendship and how they'll annoy each other but are clearly super fond of each other.
Last song: I like where this is headed by Scrawny. Perfectly encapsulates the... everything.
Last movie: Fully? Probably Glass Onion, which I rewatched with some friends last weekend. Partially? The ROTTMNT movie for fic research purposes.
Currently reading: The Metamorphosis by Kafka. Also Unmasking Autism by Devin Price for the second time. The Martian by Andy Weir for the third time. And I'm technically in the middle of an agonizing read of Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer because my friends and I decided it would be a good idea to do a book club where half of us read Twilight and the other half read Midnight Sun and yell about them. It's horribly excruciating and we're all gluttons for punishment.
Currently watching: My fiancee Katie and I bounce between shows because we don't have much free time. Sonic Prime, Golden Girls, Taskmaster, a Rise re-watch. We also don't watch much TV because we (I) tend to analyze it to hell and back and it takes forever.
Currently consuming: Grapes. Love them when they're not mushy.
Currently craving: Three things: 1. A society in which I can unmask and be myself, as I am currently inflicted with +200 psychic damage every day which leaves me exhausted and burned out all the time; 2. If 1 is nonnegotiable, Katie to get a raise so I can switch to part-time and maybe not be dead; 3. A new hydra splatling build in Splatoon 3.
Tagging: @katiemonz, @dunkalfredo, @octolingkiera, @mcbethins. And I'm not tagging anybody else. Have fun.

not a day goes by without me wishing that midnight sun gets adapted as a netflix/disney+ limited series 😭😭 I don't know who could be cast (except maybe olivia rodrigo as bella) but I need this. or as an animated series like stephenie suggested.
midnight sun for sure has potential for a BOMB adaptation (so much options for insane visuals!) but idk, i think it's still too early for a twilight reboot in any form. the OG movies are already iconic on their own and i think need a few years more until they fully settle in the modern/cult classic category, and get a proper remake that could be actually good.
when you think about it, the only 2010s franchises that have gotten remade lately are the ones that initially flopped lol (thinking of the mortal instruments and vampire academy). twilight was big on its own, and with the renaissance maybe it's better to let it go quiet again first instead of using the momentum of the hype to make it more profitable again.
i'm on board with the idea of animated series too! first, because we're all very very used to the actors already, and i think that a new live-action adaptation would be jarring because we'd all be comparing the actors to the original ones if that makes sense?
and second, undone is one of my all time favourite series and it made me realize how animation can make some concepts look insanely cool, while they would've just looked off and cheap in live action. imagine alice's vision in trippy animation! imagine her conversation with edward in the car before the meadow when he explains how her thoughts "expand" when going through visions!! that would be so cool to make, only if it ends up in the right creators' hands.
tl;dr: YEAH!!! but in a few years please. 10 maybe

2 twilight cast want another twilight movie, I didn’t see anyone else agreeing to it. So do you think it will happen?
They could always shoot a home movie?
To give you a serious answer - for a movie to be made, there needs to be money in it. You need people believing a Twilight movie would pull money, or they'll never back its production. As it is right now, I don't think Twilight's lying at the top of anyone's desk. It had its glory days, those days are over.
More, what would this movie be?
The vast, vast, majority of Twilight fans love the movies, prefer them to the books even, so I don't see anyone gunning for a reboot.
Midnight Sun is just Twilight 2.0, from Edward's point of view, the book is 90% introspection. Unless we're doing Sult, but no producer in his right mind would ever back a Sult-style movie based on Twilight. From what I remember, it was a miracle that Sult was made at all.
Life and Death? Again, no, because directors who want feminist retellings are not going to bother with Twilight, and I can't imagine anyone else going for it.
There's my dream of an animated miniseries, but that would be extremely different from the Twilight movies we had. The only way that's happening is if I make it myself, something I don't have the skillset for.
The future Renesmée book? I suppose this one's got the best shot of the lot, but we're back to the question of how much money it'd actually pull.
Then we have the fact that a new Twilight movie would be facing a problem called "the fans really liked the original movies", and another problem called "the fandom is on its 12th year of throwing a tantrum because one (1) actress was recast".
Which means that even though the whole cast is now too old and would need to be replaced, the movie wouldn't get away with recasting.
We'd be looking at Edward Cullen, an eternal seventeen-year-old who now looks distinctly like he's in his late 30's - and that's assuming they could even get Robert Pattinson. Regardless of how Pattinson actually feels about Twilight he has made a big show of publicly distancing himself from them, I doubt he's going to turn around on that. Our hypothetical Twilight producer is then looking at a Twilight movie without Pattinson's Edward, and possibly without Stewart's Bella as well.
That alone kills our Twilight movie.
Then you have the subtler issues. These movies had no sense of coherence among them. Vampires look different from movie to movie, the characters look different, they even dress differently. The movies are stylistically different, going from indie vibes with blue filter to ridiculously high saturation, to You Are Watching a Hollywood Blockbuster™. There's no iconic set location, the meadow looked different from movie to movie, the Cullen house was as generic as they could make it, and so on. There's no musical themes, either. No "Bella's Theme", no "March of the Volturi", nothing. Meaning, these movies wouldn't have anything to slip back into to give fans a feeling like "ah, yes, this is Twilight."
Then there's the fact that the Twilight movies were shit. They were irredeemably bad movies, but the vast majority of us watched them at an impressionable age. They really meant something to our young and impressionable selves and that, in turn, means they're protected by heavy layers of nostalgia. Watch a new Twilight movie, without nostalgia cushioning the experience, and if it's anything like the preceding five (which, going by how a large part of the reason why the movies failed in the first place was because the directors were churning out cash cows, not telling a story they cared about, it would be) and I predict they won't be charmed.
Getting someone to make a Twilight movie would be hard enough of its own, but even if it does happen, there's a very large chance the fans would hate it.
Gonna be a home movie or nothing.
