Tumblr media

Gudhi Padwa.
Gudhi Padwa is a spring-time festival that marks the traditional new year for Marathi and Konkani Hindus. It is celebrated in and near Maharashtra and Goa on the first day of the Chaitra month to mark the beginning of the New year according to the lunisolar Hindu calendar. The word padava or padavo comes from the Sanskrit word pratipada which refers to the first day of a lunar fortnight. The festival is observed with colourful floor decorations called rangoli, a special Gudhi flag (garlanded with flowers, mango and neem leaves, topped with upturned silver or copper vessel), street processions, dancing and festive foods.
Ugadi/Yugadi
Ugadi/Yugadi also known as Samvatsarādi, is the New Year's Day for the States of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in India. It is festively observed in these regions on the first day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra. This typically falls in April month of the Gregorian calendar.

*Yugadi, Ugadi* Ugadi, the New Year for the people living in the Indian Deccan area celebrate the arrival of spring season. This is the time of the year when the entire nature appears to be drowned in the festive spirit and their lies the spiritual significance of Ugadi. Like the new leaves, new buds, fresh breeze and bright sunlight, the Ugadi festival also symbolizes the birth of a new era. It is celebrated on Shukla Paksha of the first month Chaitra of the Hindu calendar and also the first season, Vasanta –Ritu Spring). Yugadi... "Yugasya Adih" means the beginning of the era. Vasudha (Earth) completes her annual cycle of orbiting around the sun and begins a new cycle. Similarly, Earth's satellite Moon also begins its orbit around Earth afresh. 1. Bhagavad Gita 10.35 bṛhat-sāma tathā sāmnāṁ gāyatrī chandasām aham māsānāṁ mārga-śīrṣo ’ham ṛtūnāṁ kusumākaraḥ Of the hymns in the Sāma Veda I am the Bṛhat-sāma, and of poetry I am the Gāyatrī. Of months I am Mārgaśīrṣa, and of seasons I am flower-bearing *Spring* (Ugadi) 2. Lord Brahma started creation on this day - Chaitra suddha padhyami or the Ugadi day. 3. Maharshi Vedavyasa describes this event with the words "Yesmin Krishno divamvyataha, Tasmat eeva pratipannam Kaliyugam". Kali Yuga began on February 17/18 at midnight in 3102 BCE 4. People traditionally gather to listen to the recitation of the religious Panchangam (almanac) of the new year, and the general forecast of the year to come. This is called the 'Panchanga Sravanam', an informal social function where an elderly and respected person will read the almanac. 5. The eating of a specific mixture of six tastes, called Ugadi Pachhadi -Neem Buds/Flowers for its bitterness, signifying Sadness -Jaggery and ripe banana pieces for sweetness, signifying Happiness -Green Chilli/Pepper for its hot taste, signifying Anger -Salt for saltiness, signifying Fear -Tamarind Juice for its sourness, signifying Disgust -Unripened Mango for its tang, signifying Surprise 6. people look forward to a literary feast in the form of Kavi Sammelanam. Many poets come up with new poems written on subjects ranging - from Ugadi - to politics to modern trends and lifestyles. 🛕🚩🍵🍥🍲🍱🥗🍚 Offer Mandir Nirman seva Offer Maha Abhishek Offer Annadanam Offer Flowers Offer Go-daan for Goshala ಮಹಾ ಅಭಿಷೇಕ್ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿ ಅನ್ನದಾನವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿ ಹೂವುಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ಗೋಶಾಲಾಗೆ ದಾನವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿ Deposit donations @ https://rzp.io/l/donateforiskconraichur ISKCON Canara bank account 0519101043190 IFSC CNRB0000519 Join us with family, friends & get blessed by Lordships Sri Radha Shyamachandra, Gaura Nitai, Srila Prabhupada 🌼 - in service of Lord Sri Krishna & Humanity ISKCON Raichur team www.iskconraichur.com

In the great void, appeared the primordial water.
From within the water, appeared a lotus.
Upon that lotus, appeared Brahma.
For an eon, Brahma wondered where was he?
Who was he?
Why was he here?
Was he alone?
What was the purpose of his being?.
After an eon of meditation, he decided to 'create' and populate the great void and its primordial waters with 'life'.
He tried various forms of 'life' but none seemed to last or be self-sustaining or perpetuate itself without his constant intervention.
Eventually, he created the dual opposites - Purusha and Prakruti.
Together, living in symbiosis, they populated and propagated life in the universe.
Ardha-Nari-Iswara is the divine form that combines the power of Purusha and Prakruti that acts in concert for the betterment of the universe.
On Yugadi, the first day the universe was created, I worshiped Ardha-Nari-Ishwara in memory of that act of divine creation.

Yug means Era & Aadi means Start. Therefore #yugadi means "Start of a new era". Ugadi (Beginning of #Satyug) will be the next age of the Eternal World Drama Cycle. After #Holi (purification of #soul by imbibing Godly knowledge, inculcating divine virtues by replacing vices with #virtues) the New age, New yug, & New era will start. So, it is the time to change ourselves or to purify ourselves and inculcate #divine virtues.

Ugadi 2024: Date, Time, Significance and Celebrations
Tumblr media
Ugadi, oh what a celestial symphony it brings! It’s more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a gateway to a new age, a fresh beginning pulsating with ancient wisdom and cultural richness. In the heartlands of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Goa, India, Ugadi unfurls its magic, weaving together threads of tradition and spirituality.
Yugadi / Ugadi Significance
Derived from the Sanskrit words ‘yuga’ and ‘adi’, Ugadi signifies the dawn of a new epoch, a time for rebirth and rejuvenation. As the Gregorian calendar inches toward late March or early April, Hindus across these regions immerse themselves in the tapestry of rituals and festivities, cherishing every moment as sacred.
Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Yugadi in Karnataka – each name resonates with the rhythm of tradition, carrying forth the legacy of generations past. It’s a time when homes come alive with vibrant Muggulu or Rangoli, each pattern a reflection of hope and prosperity.
Ah, the aroma of mango leaves adorning doorways, whispering tales of abundance and fertility. Charity flows freely, like a river of compassion, as hearts open wide to embrace the less fortunate. Oil massages and ceremonial baths cleanse not just the body, but the soul, preparing one for the journey ahead.
And then, there’s the legendary Pachadi. A dish so divine, it tantalizes the taste buds with its symphony of six flavors. Sweet, sour, bitter, tangy, spicy, and salty – each taste a metaphor for life’s myriad experiences. It’s like celebrating life with food, reminding us to enjoy every moment of the year ahead.
But in the midst of all the fun and delicious food, let’s not forget what Ugadi is really about. It’s a time to find peace in the presence of something greater than ourselves, to acknowledge the forces that shape our lives. As we pray and seek blessings in temples, let’s also take a moment to look inward and recognize the divinity within us.
Ugadi, with its mix of colors and flavors, encourages us to pause, reflect, and appreciate the cycle of life. It reminds us that even in our darkest moments, there’s always hope for a new beginning.
So, as we come together with our loved ones to celebrate Ugadi, let’s do it with grateful hearts and joyful spirits. Because in this moment of laughter and connection, we find the true beauty of life – love, togetherness, and the promise of starting anew.
