But since the Instagram gods frown upon taking a break, we’re going to flash back to this #cedarchest refinishing project we did 4-5 years ago. I (Meghan 👋🏻👩🏻‍🦰) will warn you that there are many things that I would do differently nowadays. However, I’m still very proud of how this piece turned out. . . This cedar chest was the first piece of furniture I ever refinished. It was handed down to me by my grandparents when I was in high school. It was painted beige at that time and I re-painted it with light and dark blue pinstripes to match my bedroom. When Chris and I moved out to Chicago, we repainted it black and white but the paint never fully set. When we moved into our house we decided it was time to give this piece the proper treatment it deserved. . . The first step was taking off the endless coats of paint. Back then I didn’t know much about paint stripping and I don’t think the @inventor_of_the_restorer was around yet so I not-so-smartly chose to use a sheet sander to remove the many layers of paint. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS METHOD OF PAINT REMOVAL. There are plenty of other ways to do this that an older, smarter Meghan now knows much more about. But hey, it got the job done and the wood was nice and smooth by the time I was done (a few days later). Our #throwbackthursday this week is the #ikeahack bookcase/room divider/whiteboard in my #makerspace. My #office sits at the intersection of the garage, workshop, kitchen, and our main living space. It’s wide open to all of these rooms, (which can be great or chaotic depending on the day) so I wanted to find a way to have it be open but also feel private and cozy at the same time. So, we decided to make use of some old #ikea #bookcases we had from our poor college student days to create a little barrier for the room. We stacked the two book cases on top of each other, glued and screwed them into place, and added side supports so it couldn’t tip over (#toddlerproblems). Our #throwbackthursday this week is the #ikeahack bookcase/room divider/whiteboard in my #makerspace. My #office sits at the intersection of the garage, workshop, kitchen, and our main living space.
