Martha Jones was a fuckin med student when she ran off with The Doctor. If I were writing her she would've wanted to study him like a bug I KNOW my stem girlie would be trying to surreptitiously get him into an X-ray machine

A telesnap redraw. I wish the first episode of Evil Of The Daleks were found, so we could see the 2nd Doctor moping around in a colourful 60's café (once colourised) and Jamie being severely out of place among people his age.

Out of curiosity, what is the Gallifreyan word for healer? Is it, by any chance, Theta Sigma?
Hi, I remember reading somewhere that there was a Gallifreyan word for healer/medic/doctor that was "hélar" or maybe "hélar"- was that from your institute?
From @theangelshavethephonebox
Neither "hélar" nor "télar" or anything resembling those words, are part of the Institute's language database in relation to healer/doctor/medic. I took the liberty of doing some digging to see if I could find any mention of them for you, but I've come up empty.😕
(You'd think Gallifrey's seemingly infinite language database might help, but no. I can only apologise. I didn't invent the tech.)

Does their enhanced peripheral nervous system mean that a gallifreyan could deal with, say, chronic pain, on their own( at least until I can convince mine to go back to Gallifrey for a checkup)?
Gallifreyan Pain/Chronic Pain Management
Nerve manipulation definitely plays a part in pain management, but Gallifreyans have a few additional techniques to help manage pain effectively, which your Gallifreyan would have already been taught.
🤕 Pain Management
Endorphin Production: Gallifreyans can consciously stimulate the production of endorphins - the body's natural pain relievers. This allows them to reduce the intensity of severe pain. However, this obviously has its limits, and endorphins will only take the edge off for short periods.
Nerve Manipulation: Gallifreyans can manipulate their nerves to some extent and regulate their response to pain. This involves controlling blood flow, potentially leading to localised numbness. However, this form of control is pretty limited and really not suitable for all types of chronic pain for obvious reasons!
Limitations: While endorphin production and nerve manipulation can help manage pain, these methods might not be enough for long-term relief. If pain persists or becomes too severe, more extensive medical intervention may be required.
Drug Intervention: Human analgesics can be used supplemental to help your Gallifreyan manage pain, but they usually require increased doses compared to humans. Non-opioid painkillers like paracetamol are recommended for mild pain. Stronger Earth painkillers would need a prescription and may be harder to obtain on Earth for your Gallifreyan. Aspirin should be avoided completely due to the risk of severe allergic reactions, potentially leading to coma, death, or forced regeneration.
🔄 Healing Coma and Advanced Techniques
Gallifreyans can enter a healing coma when pain or damage becomes overwhelming. This state allows the body to focus entirely on healing, which can help cure the cause of chronic pain/severe injuries. While this is spectacularly handy, it should only be used when absolutely necessary, as it effectively shuts down normal bodily functions temporarily and makes the Gallifreyan very vulnerable.
🏫 So ...
While Gallifreyan pain management techniques can cope with some issues, chronic pain often requires specialised care to improve their quality of life and prevent further complications or long-term damage. If your Gallifreyan is experiencing chronic pain, please encourage them to get a checkup on Gallifrey and seek advice from a medical professional.
Hope that helped! 😃

Is it a coincidence that gallifreyan "normal" seems to present as being extremely similar to human autistic, or is that just the Doctor? (Has only been exposed long-term to the Doctor)
Are Gallifreyans naturally autistic?
🌌 Neurodiversity
Gallifreyans, like humans, exhibit a wide range of neurological expressions, and it is indeed possible for a Gallifreyan to be autistic. This can occur in two main ways:
Innate Neurodiversity: Gallifreyans are born/loomed with a core personality. Each regeneration emphasises different aspects of that core personality. If this core personality includes autistic traits, certain incarnations might display these traits more prominently than others.
Acquired Characteristics: Autism can also be acquired during the regeneration process. Although the brain attempts to adhere to a standard template, regeneration can lead to variations—enlarged or reduced areas or altered neural pathways—that result in a neurodivergent incarnation. Such changes can be temporary and may change in subsequent regenerations.
🧠 The Doctor: A Case Study
Here we examine the Doctor, who is arguably the most extensively observed Gallifreyan in human history. The Doctor's behaviours—intense focus on interests and atypical social interactions and a million other things—resonate with autistic traits as understood in humans. So, it is pretty safe to say that (by human definition) the Doctor is autistic.
But while the Doctor often exhibits traits that can be perceived as autistic-like, it's important to note that not all Gallifreyans exhibit these characteristics, nor does the Doctor consistently display them across all regenerations. So it's more accurate to consider these traits as facets of the Doctor's core personality rather than defining characteristics of the Gallifreyan species.
🏫 So ...
Gallifreyan 'normal' is just as normal as human normal (which isn't very normal, because [newsflash] biologically normal doesn't exist). The Doctor's characteristics that align with autistic traits absolutely aren't representative of all Gallifreyans, but they certainly shine a big darn light on the wide possibility in Gallifreyan neurodiversity.
Hope that helped! 😃
