Thinking of Fig, staring at the elven baby in Fabian’s arms, thinking Gilear deserves this. Looking at him, and how bright he smiles and how happy he looks and realizing that he finally has a daughter that won’t turn into a demon. He has a daughter he can spoil, and adore.

(And she wonders, did she want a sibling because Gilear deserves it, or was it because she wanted to give her father a daughter that wouldn’t betray him? This baby will never grow horns, and become something that he doesn’t recognize. They will always be a cheery teenage who knows their father loves them.

This baby will be a better child than she was.)

At first Fabian refuses to interact with his and Fig’s new sibling but one day his mom is dealing with something in the other room and the baby is crying and so Fabian has to pick up the baby. So he picks up the baby, bouncing them gently, and says, “One day, eighteen years from now, I will fight you to the death.” Then the baby reaches up and curls their little hand around his finger and Fabian’s voice breaks, utterly in love with this tiny person, and says, “I will defeat you,” unconvincingly.

was doing some transcript reading for the legend lore database and i realized that adaine is technically only the second elven oracle

eleminthindriel was the earliest known elven oracle and a member of the first council of chosen in solace. adaine directly succeeds her.

first off, it makes adaine having to advocate for pay so early on in her time as oracle make more sense. eleminthindriel probably would have been employed as the oracle within the council and thus didn't need to worry about establishing it as a paid position with the court of stars.

but also, we still don't know how aelwyn knew the next oracle would be adaine. there has to be some kind of ritual or something to figure that out. eleminthindriel was functionally immortal on fallinel. was it a proximity thing? like the most powerful elven diviner in proximity to the sinking of the harpy gets the position? or did adaine have premonitions that aelwyn could use to set her up as the oracle? i feel like that kind of ritual would be added to the database because that's insane for aelwyn to have done. she's 18.

#first of all aelwyn was 16 when she murdered an entire shipful of people to make her sister the elven oracle #but yea all that’s said about the position is that it’s passed to the ‘most prestigious diviner among the elven people’ #and aelwyn just thought her sister was That Good #now my personal headcanon will always be that Kalvaxus/Kalina did murder about it #like. on a pure statistical level what are the odds that the next elven oracle would be the child of diplomats to solace #AND attending the aguefort adventuring academy #slim to none. seriously that’s obscenely convinient for Kalina and Kalvaxus both #now if. they arranged the murder of some of the most accomplished young diviners in Fallinel #suddenly those odds aren’t looking so grim #now of course they’d have to be careful about this #can’t have anyone get suspicious enough to not let the elven oracle get of a ship going out of the country #but it’s kalina/kalvaxus. they have their ways #none of this to discount Adaine’s ability #it’s just that some very powerful people had a lot to benefit from her becoming the elven oracle

Thinking about. Rizbert. Erizabeth. Rizwalda. Riz has to be short for something because... because why? Is he 'too good' for a short name? (a goblin name?) Isn't he surrounded by non-goblins who cannot think outside their cultural perceptions of what a name is supposed to be? Riz both as a name and as a person seems short & lesser but don't worry, he's really something greater, something larger and longer than can be expressed with his native name. As if something small cannot be powerful and important without secretly being large. As if there is only one way to be great. It's like Sklonda said, his name is Riz. Just Riz, as if there's anything 'just' about it.

i know ppl keep doing the "20k gold = 20k USD" thing, but it seems to me like Solesian money is very similar to typical DnD money, which means 20k gold is way, WAY, WAAAAAY more than $20k.

#there’s also the matter of purchasing power #like. presumably solace has more advanced mining equipment and can extract more gold from the ground than other places #the first Spyre map seems to suggest in its art that the Baronies are undergoing industrialization #but their aesthetic as seen in the seven is closer to the renaissance #which i will say is still a jump from standard medieval fantasy #like you could probably get more for a single gold piece in highcourt or the baronies or even leviathan #supply and demand baby #all that to say yeah there’s no way 1 gp = $1 #there’s not that much gold i don’t care if you’re magic

Kipperlily being jealous of Riz from the jump because she wants to be a classic fantasy hero rising up from messed up circumstances is actually so fucked. If you will go back to Freshman year in your mind: Sklonda eating her cereal with water so Riz can have milk, Riz saying he can watch the palimpsest because no one is going to notice he’s gone, going from thinking his father was in a run of the mill accident to was probably murdered, finding out you’ve been unknowingly chasing after your father’s murderer the whole time… Kipperily is jealous that Riz has had a hard life. She’s jealous that he has suffered and believes that gives him an unfair advantage. That seems to be the root the rage god cultists or Jace or whatever used. Her jealousy and feelings that she’s owed tragedy instead of her picture perfect life, that it’s unfair her classmate has suffered not because he’s also a child but because it wasn’t her.
