Full Sail University Public Relations Final Project and Thesis review
My goal for the Full Sail University Public Relations Final Project and Thesis course was to build my resume and have tangible items to present to a potential client or organization. At the end of this course – which was also the end of the Masters in Public Relations Program – I wanted to be able to demonstrate my ability to work as a PR professional outside the military. I wanted to also have my own strategies and approach to public relations.
This course definitely met my goals. It allowed me to put together everything I worked on for my capstone client into a final thesis paper. I also fine-tuned my personal website to ensure better layout and navigation.
The best assignment in this course was the final thesis. The final thesis is a collection of classwork completed over the past 11 months, and signaled the end of the program and a diploma with my name on it. The final thesis also gave me a good format for future public relations projects.
The assignment I enjoyed the most was tweaking my website and looking at the website of a classmate to look for any adjustments that could be made to make the website more user-friendly. Although I do have more work to do on my website, the tools I have learned and steps I have taken to ensure my website is search engine optimization compliant are things that I can do to assist clients and grow my personal brand and business.
The knowledge I have learned in this course will help me develop great branding and public relations plans for clients. I will also be able to set up websites with all important elements considered for proper search engine optimization. These are tools that I will be able to use throughout my career and as I venture into entrepreneurship.

Full Sail Online Media Room Course Review
My goal going into the Full Sail University Online Media Room Course was to gain an understanding of how to establish and maintain an online media room. I wanted to learn how to integrate digital media into popular social media platforms, and understand basic practices for managing and updating online media assets to encourage participation across an organization. This course is exceeded goals, was informational, and I feel sets me up as a subject matter expert and competitor as a digital content manager in the Public Relations field.
The best assignment in this course is the initial setup of the branded capstone project site. I enjoyed learning how to set up a website, within my website, with a different URL. Building the capstone project online allowed me to also get more experience with website building.
The assignment I most enjoyed is the Social media relations room where I learned about the corporate newsroom, social media release template, and social media club. Working with Storify to build a social media release was fun and one of the more interesting and engaging assignments. I will definitely be able to use this professionally as I continue my career as a Public Relations officer. I have already started to implement the corporate newsroom at my current job. The corporate newsroom is an element every business should have as part of their public facing website.
The knowledge I have acquired in this course will help me be a better digital content manager, and help me work as a professional Public Relations professional. There are many elements that are incorporated into the business of public relations and image, or brand, management. This course, coupled with the previous courses, have helped me grow as a public relations professional. This course gave me more tools to be successful in my career.

FSU Reputation Management Strategies Course Review
My goal going into the Full Sail University Reputation Management Strategies Course was to gain insight into how to monitor conversations, sentiment and search results, and learn how to a manage reputation in a crisis. This course was more than I expected and I learned much more than I projected I would.
The best assignment in this course was developing the crisis communication plan for my capstone project. I really enjoyed this particular assignment because it allowed me to work with my capstone client on a crisis communication plan for his business. My client is very open to adopting the strategies, tools, and techniques that I am learning at Full Sail University, and he was especially interested in the crisis management plan this month. While developing the plan, I was able to teach my client about having the right people and tools for different crises, and critical steps needed for the crisis communication plan. My client and I have ideas to further develop the plan based on his idea to grow the business.
Of the topics covered in this course, reputation assessment and crisis communication are the two topics that will be most helpful over the course of my career and as a public relations professional. I currently work as a public affairs officer, but my plan is to work as a crisis communications manager following my current position. I currently handle minor crises that are routine in my current line of work. I would like to perform crisis management on a much larger scale.
The knowledge I acquired this month will prepare me to work with professionals in the public relations industry in a number of ways. Understanding the many elements of the public relations field helps one be more knowledgeable about the craft, and speak with certainty and clarity about the business. Reputation management is critical to the public relations profession. If a PR professional does not understand reputation management in some form, it is probably time to find a new line of work. Understanding how to build and implement a crisis communications plan is also a very important element of reputation management strategies. In the future, I will be able to understand, develop, and implement a plan that is right for my client, which is really important to me.

FSU Event Marketing and Production Review
Event Marketing and Production was a very interesting course. My original goals in this course were to learn how to organize media-related events for my client and integrate digital media in public relations.  I also wanted to gain a better understanding of the role public and digital events that support public relations efforts and how these events generate awareness for a client of company. I had the opportunity to do those things and much more.
During this course, I created a webinar, or digital presentation using Google Hangouts. By creating my own presentations and watching the presentations of others, I learned a lot about how to properly set up and give a presentation. The process involves a lot more than just showing up, but it is much easier than I originally thought. Having to go through the process makes it much easier for future webinars. I also plan to use this tool throughout my career.
Understanding the steps to covering an event was also helpful. I didn’t realize how much of an event planner that PR professionals really are. I enjoyed this portion of the course.
One assignment that I really enjoyed was creating an event flyer for my client. As a former military graphics illustrator, I was able to use the tools I have come accustomed to using and create a product that my client really loves. I will produce many more similar to the event flyer to use on social media. My client is a used car dealer and he always has an event.
During this course, I was also able to take much of the information I learned in earlier courses to create a greater digital presence for my client. My client is unsuccessfully using Facebook, but gets a lot of traction on Craig’s List. Over the next few weeks, I will incorporate an aggressive social media campaign to help boost sales and gain a more positive online presence.
I will apply much of what I learned professionally. As a Public Affairs officer in the military, I have the opportunity to implement much of what I learned immediately. Working with my new client, I also have an even bigger opportunity to use what I’ve learned.
I look forward to incorporating what I learned into my professional career. I really enjoyed the course and I can’t wait for the next course.

Market and Consumer Research Analysis Review
The Market and Consumer Research Analysis course moved at a faster pace than other courses I have taken in the Public Relations program, but the techniques I learned for conducting relevant research for a client was worthwhile. During this course, I expected to gain an understanding of how to identify competitors and clients and learn how to target a public relations campaign to attract desired clients. I also expected to learn how to analyze, evaluate, and present industry data within a professional context. This course definitely met those expectations.
What I liked most about the course were the short videos that gave detailed descriptions on what we should be aware of when conducting research on behalf of a client. They also gave insight into what data is relevant, how to present that is found, and how to know if the research is good information. I also enjoyed the collaborating with others in the course on the many ways to conduct research. I have always enjoyed reviewing case studies in order to enhance my own understanding of a subject so I really appreciated the case study in this course.
One thing that I learned in this course that I will use at my current job is how to conduct a survey. There are many ways to survey a group of individuals, but I will use one similar to the one in the case study on my current job. The survey method shared in one of the videos will be excellent for the client that I am working with on my capstone project. I found the survey simple and easy to do, without causing the business to do a lot of extra work. The length of the survey was just right in order to obtain relevant information without wasting a lot of the customer’s time.
This Master of Public Relations program continues to be a rewarding experience. I enjoy the interaction and motivation with the instructors. I look forward to continuing in this program and working more on the capstone project.

Social Media Metrics and ROI
The Social Media Metrics and ROI course has been very rewarding. I thought I knew how to measure social media metrics. What I realized throughout the course is that I did not know as much as I thought I knew. The information that I walked away with in this course is amazing and more than I could have expected. The return on influence is a term I like much better than return on investment. In my current job as a public relations officer, many communicators believe it is hard to measure the effects of communication. I have learned the opposite with this course. Social media ROI can be measured in so many ways.
What I liked most about the course was implementing Google Analytics properly and understanding keywords and how to use them. I also appreciate being able to start on a project. The project is important to me because it allows me to highlight my talents outside of the military. I am also using the tools for my project on the job. As always, the videos and slides add to the learning experience.
I will apply what I have learned in this course by further establishing my personal brand and building an online audience.  Professionally, I am working on a social media campaign for a local bakery as part of the PR program here at Full Sail University. I am also incorporating the tools and knowledge that I have learned in this course at my current job as a Public Affairs Officer for an Army Service Component Command. It is much easier to show relevance, establish, and measure goals with the information learned in this course.
This Master of Public Relations program has far exceeded my expectations. Social Media Metrics and ROI is definitely an important part of the program that I really enjoyed.

Mastery Journal – Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources Review
The Full Sail University Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources course was definitely a course that could have lasted much longer. My original goal was to learn different media platforms and understand how to navigate these platforms for effective Public Relations. There was so much information that I truly believe this course could have lasted months and I would still want more time exploring the content and many tools gained during this course.
The course definitely met my original objectives. I discovered many new social media platforms and phone apps through course videos and interacting with other students. I thought I was up to date on the most popular social media apps until this course. One aspect of the course that I really enjoyed was the multiple ways to publish great content to websites and social media. The instructor, Sandra BK, shared her many websites and gave instruction using many different platforms to include the popcorn videos, YouTube and GoToMeeting. I think I enjoyed seeing how she designed her websites and understanding the reasons why she designed them the way she did more than anything. I’m a visual learner and I learned a lot from her personal experience.
My favorite assignment was the Week 4 assignment where we added a media page to our websites. The thought of adding a media page was very intimidating at first, but I felt a little more comfortable after Sandra BK explained the multiple ways to design the page even as a student. I also enjoyed the assignment where we had to find a new phone app and write a review. I found some very interesting apps that I will use in the future.
I will use the information learned in this course both personally and professionally. As a current military PR professional, this course gave many tools to use on the job. I also plan to continue building and maintaining my website long after the course is complete. The information developed in this course and this entire program is very relevant and useful professionally.

Mastery Journal - Legal Aspects of Media
Legal Aspects of Media has probably been the most challenging course thus far in the Full Sail University Masters in Public Relations program. This course is also one of my favorites. My goal going into this course was to gain an understanding of laws that apply to public relations, and PR on the Internet and other technologies. I was looking to learn more about First Amendment rights and media law, to include libel, slander, privacy, and ethical dilemma communications professionals may face. This course did meet my expectations. My favorite assignment was the copyright discussion and learning about copyright registration. I enjoyed this topic because we not only discussed copyright situations and what to look for with respect to copyright issues, but we actually looked for copyrighted content. I like knowing where to look for copyrighted content and how to conduct a search. There is a lot of information to look for with respect to copyright laws.
The topic that will be most helpful to me currently as a communications professional will be the Freedom of Information Act Request topic. As a public affairs officer, I am required to answer FOIA requests and this course gave me insight into the process. In the future, I think the copyright topic will be most helpful.
The information in this course will better prepare me to handle potential legal trouble in the communications industry by hopefully helping me avoid legal issues. There are so many legal elements to consider when preparing communications and it’s important to remember what they are so that you or the company you represent remain trustworthy and out of legal trouble.
Overall, I enjoyed the course. I feel more empowered as a communications professional because I have the information I need to be more effective when it comes to legal considerations.
