Announcement!

[[ • Hi guys! My mini-break ended up being more of a month-long hiatus. 👀💦 With that said, I have a few announcements before I get things going again:

      1.) I'm moving Roxanne to a FN.AF sideblog/multi, @glambytes​! This is just  to keep things balanced since she’s been taking a lot of attention on this blog, haha. Current threads with her will continue over there once I’m finished setting up. I just need to set up tags/transplant her about page, then write up pages for the rest~!

      2.) I have implemented a new rule listed last under the “blog” section of my page. This relates to tagging URLs for someone that I’d like to avoid/not see on the dash to maintain a safe space for myself. I recommend you reread my rules again but under the cut, the rule is written as followed as well as an additional disclaimer:

      • For personal reasons, if you are mains with ar//chcle//rgy aka Ro//sar/i/o (without brackets), I ask that you hardblock/refrain from following me. I'm fine if others are mutuals with x, just tag threads and mention of Rose's urls. I wish no ill will towards the mun, this is simply for my wellbeing as x’s presence on the dash is a huge anxiety trigger.

      For the record: I rarely if ever make DNIs regarding specific people, hence why I’m not against people who follow x (in general) for obvs reasons. Do not take this as an opportunity to attack someone! I’ve had a negative experience with x in the past, but beyond the contents of the new rule in question I’m not too comfortable explaining myself publicly on the matter.

      Please respect my decision on the matter, thank you. <3

i’m kind of annoyed at the communities belief that dropping threads or liking a starter call and not responded is a terrible thing. like that belief of “oh they didn’t reply to that one starter i wrote one time they’ll never reply to anything why should i even bother”

i don’t support that at all.

so basically, if you don’t mind that your partner may drop threads or not reply/maybe forget to reply to a starter, please reblog this? its so unhealthy for someone like myself who gets afraid to drop threads on the chance that my partners may think i don’t want to write with them, or worse BECAUSE i dropped it they won’t want to write with me.

its a bad cycle to end up hoarding drafts because you’re afraid they’ll be mad at you for dropping it. so if you don’t mind at all and will still continue to want to write with them, reblog this and let your followers know that you are okay with them dropping threads, and you won’t hold it against them.

[[ • Update: this still applies, but I’m adding an extra caveat that, while I still want to write/am slowly starting to write again, I may be selective with threads for the next few weeks. If I start up new ones but haven’t gotten to yours yet, then I’m not intentionally ignoring folks — my energy’s just kind of limited atm.

      If you wanna continue/drop any threads we still have, then lmk! Otherwise I’ll assume you want to keep any thread I still owe unless I message you about thread-dropping specifically.

[[ • Just a heads up: I had a big mood-drop recently and have been feeling pretty overwhelmed. I may end up dropping some threads (nothing determined atm) + expect radio silence when it comes to threading.

[[ • Not to push the Toonverse Agenda on folks once again, but here’s some lighthearted headcanons for my boy to balance out the last one! 👀

      He came to life in 1981 and first appeared in the comics in 1982. This is relevant because if he meets an adult toon who was created and/or first appeared in public media after ‘81, Dugan will eventually point out that he’s Older and Wiser and insist that they should Respect Their Elders™ aka him.

      Dugan will do this with the most angy deadpan pout, and might raise his voice and stomp his feet if he’s not taken seriously. That’s okay though, he doesn’t actually take himself seriously when saying that for the most part. Also 40 years = one year of physical/mental aging for Dugan and he started out as a 4 year old lmao.

      Mainverse-wise, he has two first names (Dugan / Biquinho) because Portuguese naming customs! As for the toon side of things, he goes by both interchangeably but responds more quickly to Biquinho due to his early days at his old comic studio. Sometimes he’ll respond faster to Pennino, his Italian name, since he spent much of his early comic runtime in Italy/Brazil outside Toontown.

      Also yes, he’s a funny toon-y kid with a hammerspace and he is not afraid to cause a lot of chaos! The Duck comics are more free rein like that, and since his creator was among the first Brazilian Dis.ney comic book artists + launched the Zé Car.ioca comics? He had a p big jumpstart both training and natural-talent-wise~

      ✸ ◦ That giggle of his prompts a smirk from the wolf. Roxanne won’t lie, his playing pretend is highly amusing. Granted, the little guy should probably be in sleep mode at this hour — even AI children need extra rest, don’t they? She has no plans to clip his make-believe wings though, not yet.

      “Oh really?” It’s said like a challenge, golden eyes marked with mischief. Troublemakers were pretty hit-or-miss with — they either ran circles around her or forged a bond as thick as thieves. Here’s hoping it’s not the former at least. “Then do you know who else stays up at night?”

      A dramatic pause as she pretends to cower. Her head is slumped, green and white tufts dangled over her face. This doesn’t last for long of course. In fact, she already has the answer...

       “The Big Bad Wolf!” Raised arms with neon claws and the toothiest grin that Roxy can manage. Yes, that wolf is her. She only hopes that she isn’t too bad, then again kids tend not to judge! Nonetheless she tries gauging his reaction, hoping this gets a good ‘hoot’ from the ‘owl’.

[[ • I’ve been feeling a bit better since my last non-queued post, so I thought I’d make another toonverse hc dump! I’ve done ones for Spring and Roxy already, so this time I’m focusing on Dugan~

      Content warning: this includes discussion of child exploitation in the context of the entertainment industry + child abuse in general under the cut. So y’know, best to tread lightly.

      Biquinho’s conception was... interesting. The creation process was even publicized in his comic debut in an exaggerated, dramatized manner and toon-wise, he came to life before his cartoonist even completed the duckling’s lineart. Then Biquinho’s legs, feet and at one point his face were repeatedly erased and (in)correctly redrawn until, understandably, he started acting out.

      IRL, there was a contest where readers could pick out his color scheme! In-universe, the publishers saw what happened and made a profit on it. He went at least a year without color by proxy, and was made fun of for it as shown in that issue. Ironically, most modern duck comics give him his uncle’s color scheme (white feathers, red clothes), ditching the yellow downfeathers entirely.

      Hell, even before Brazil stopped making Fethry comics, Dugan’s feathers were made white whenever published outside the country. These days image editors do all the work, but he still remembers the old-fashioned and extremely painful process of being made to apply paint thinner for non-Brazil publishers.

      To this day he’ll sometimes lose and regain color in random spots or all over his body, especially when emotions are high. Keep in mind that Dugan was both mentally and physically 4 years old at the time. At most, he might be have aged one emotional year out of the 41 years he’s been around.

      Aaaaand this is where we get into the content of his comics. Honestly there are aspects that haven’t aged well (including the v blatant racism in his ‘canon’ first appearance), but here I’m talking about his treatment by adults... like, literal-child-gets-strangled-by-Zé-Carioca-for-shaking-jackfruits-off-a-tree-while-not-knowing-any-better treatment.

      Granted José’s kind of a jerk in the comics, but there are a lot of other instances where both one-offs and canonically benign characters tackle Dugan’s shenans in veeeery overblown, either verbally abusive or not-even-cartoony-violent ways and it’s? Not Great. And it’s not even in-character when the Duck relatives are involved.

      It’s why I consider my take on him canon divergent, but for his toonverse these comics are “canon” in that they were acted out, published, and documented. Once again, while these scenes were simply acting, Dugan was still legally 4 by toon standards and had no way to gauge why grownups treated him like this. He hasn’t aged much and more often than not, his more explosive fits are the direct result of the resulting complex trauma.

      On the bright side: his Unca Fethry, for all his quirks, is the best damn parent. In this verse, it’s the reason why his appearances became sparse after the 80s. Because when he was made Dugan’s guardian, Feth lacked the tools to protect Dugan during the height of his popularity — he had to defend him and combat the studio by himself, and he’s firm as hell when making sure that his kid won’t be exploited in future gigs for that reason.

      Granted, despite Fethry’s show appearance making nods to his Brazilian comics, this hesitance to trust illustrators/animators with Dugan ties into why he never shows up in the Duck.tales reboot. Dugan himself is kinda salty about that, but maybe that’s for the better tbh.

      In the meantime: Travel between the states/Brazil/Italy aside? Dugan lives with his uncle somewhere in Toon Town, not too far from his Unca Donald and other Duck-McDucks. The lack of official English comic translations means he’s p obscure by Dis.ney standards outside of Italy and the lusophere.

Albedo appreciated the Nymph’s help as he nodded, his expression changed to a somber look as he then replies.

“Yes Homunculus, a Artificial being. I wish I was born rather than created as I wish to be as human as the other humans in the world, sometimes, I feel like my fate was already sealed once I was soul linked to a venomous dragon who is like a brother to me as they were created too, both by the same Master. Both doomed with a fate worse than death.”

Albedo replies as he then heard her next words as his eyes soften, he looked at her before speaking.

“…so despite being created, if one has a soul, they could be considered a living being? I thought being created was considered a unnatural way of life as you weren’t supposed to really exist, you are a by product, a weapon bound to do your Master’s bidding. I appreciate your words as they bring me comfort, thank you.”

      ☙ ◦  A dragon — soul-linked? Perhaps she knew less about simulacrum than thought. Not that Spring knew all that much from the start, though the sprite herself is willing to learn. She just hopes that the Fates are more kind to him than this, and his Master... she can only manage a sad smile.

      She’s lost in thought. Was this how  alchemists treated their creations, holding so little value in the souls they’ve birthed? It’s maddening to her, but she tries not to show it. So instead Spring floats down to check his wounds. She places a hand over the bandage, pressing lightly. It stings a moment before cooling — it accelerates the healing process, just enough to let him walk with a limp if Albedo so chooses.

      “There.” So much to say, so much to think through. She wants to choose her words carefully. Not everyone sees the flaws in their parent’s logic and this master of his was the close equivalent, at least that’s how she viewed it.

      “This is a weapon.” Spring motions to the bear trap she’d freed him from. It’s cold and unfeeling and only serves to hurt, nothing like the young man before her. She then gathers some soil from the ground nearby — from her hands a patch of snowdrops bloom, and once again she motions him to look. “These flowers are like you — I create things, but they are not any less real for it.”
