Remembrance Day. Take some time today and remember those humans that risked their lives and died for freedom. I thank you and will never forget your sacrifice. Also take some time to really reflect on what we need to do as a human race to make sure wars become a thing of the past. They have no place in a compassionate and loving world ♥️ #weremember #lestweforget🌺 #iamthechange #nomorewar https://www.instagram.com/p/CWI8Ncylw1M/?utm_medium=tumblr

With a little exposure adjustment, and a very moody black and white processing, it becomes quite easy to make Bedford Mills look spooky. Maybe these photos were inspired by Dana’s latest post on www.tetthouse.com about possible ghost sightings at Tett House. She always has a way with words that inspires me. In any case, where we live always drives me out to document it. From the brightest of sunny days to the gloomy ones too, photographs are everywhere you look. And I guess if I do nothing more in life than document how I live through it, that’s good enough for me. So get out and make some photographs. You never know what you will discover. #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #monochrome #blackandwhite #chiaroscuro https://www.instagram.com/p/CSHdjqHAsp6/?utm_medium=tumblr

One of my greatest inspirations when it comes to Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and photo impressionistic photography is artist @frielphotos. What this man can do with a camera, a computer and some imagination is unparalleled in my opinion. This type of art is not for everyone, but it speaks to the dark crevices of my soul. So spending a few fleeting moments trying to pay hommage to Chris’ art always makes me content. #abstractart #abstractphotography #bedfordmills #fujix100f #icm #ImpressionistPhotography #intentionalcameramovement #multipleexposures #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #photoimpressionism #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #impressionistlens https://www.instagram.com/p/CR_7EBbnoGC/?utm_medium=tumblr

These photos were taken back a couple of months ago when Spring was just starting to peek through the ground, reawakening the life that had been hibernating for many months before. Spring is always an interesting time for me in that I find the baron grounds, the dried up leaves and the death and destruction that comes with winter so unique in the textures and layers it produces. And then to see new growth coming through, making it’s way towards the warm sunshine creates all these hopeful scenes before me. I think that’s why some of these photos look better in colour and others in black and white. I’ve never been married to one process or the other, they both have their place in telling stories. One thing’s for certain, Tett House and our property certainly is beautiful in any season I photograph it in. Follow along on my blog for more. #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #monochrome #blackandwhite #chiaroscuro #spring #newgrowth https://www.instagram.com/p/CRzaOMjnJRP/?utm_medium=tumblr

@dana_of_tett_house will probably kill me for making another post about the dust and cat hair that I find (and document) throughout Tett House. Truth is it’s as much my responsibility to clean it up as it is hers. I just like to take photos of it first, especially if the light is just right. #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #monochrome #blackandwhite #chiaroscuro https://www.instagram.com/p/CQHPh_6HPB2/?utm_medium=tumblr

Does this look like anyone else’s dining room? I guess the bigger question is does this actually look like learning to you? Kids having to navigate multiple devices for hours on end just to procure their education? The term Emergency Learning has been thrown around a lot and honestly, I hope these eLearning techniques don’t stick. Conservatives who are pushing to bring eLearning initiatives to our school system need to know this doesn’t work. You cannot isolate kids from a collabourative environment and expect them to learn. The quicker we can safely get the kids, teachers and support staff back into schools, the better. #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #monochrome #blackandwhite #chiaroscuro https://www.instagram.com/p/CPtUQosHxQ8/?utm_medium=tumblr

I’ve been thinking a lot about why the deer frequent our property here at Tett House. It feels like it’s a safety thing for one, we’re high up on a rock, with a great ridge that offers protection for the deer to pass without harm. Or maybe it’s a habit thing, doing something so many times throughout your lifespan that it just becomes an act of nature through sheer repetition. This in turn gets passed down to their young who will pass to their young and so on. One thing’s for sure, deer that frequent our property know that they are safe here. We often find them lounging in our backyard blending in with the trees that surround them. Or they will be watching us drive up the driveway in (to them at least) must seem like some sort of futuristic spaceship that we call a vehicle, crawling along so not to disturb them. I love stepping out my door to hear a rustling in the forest close by, watching their white tails bounce away as if they were playfully scampering the day away. Yes, the deer are safe here in our yard. They are free to rest where they please. #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #monochrome #blackandwhite #chiaroscuro https://www.instagram.com/p/CPqyvfKHDAM/?utm_medium=tumblr

Nothing to see here. Just some thawing grounds, dripping eavestroughs and melting snow banks. It's the first day of plus whatever temperatures and it actually feels like we are coming out of winter for warmer months. No one wants to jinx it here but wouldn't it be nice if we actually saw an early spring? Next week is March Break (or what would have been if it hadn't been delayed - STUPID COVID) and I distinctly remember a couple of years growing up where it was shorts weather! I'd LOVE THAT right about now 🤣 #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #theprintswap https://www.instagram.com/p/CMNZ0a9nBCc/?igshid=1p6ecv7hyz5ci

I recently re-read “The Democratic Forest” by William Eggleston, a photo book that is highly regarded for it’s disconnected images that somehow still tell a story. Eggleston is highly renowned for his colour photography work, in a time when the “masters” were still shooting black and white. “Eggleston has said, I am at war with the obvious. His photographs transform the ordinary into distinctive, poetic images that eschew fixed meaning.” In watching Alec Soth’s YouTube video “Rambling through Eggleston’s Democratic Forest” I gained an even better understanding as to what these photos meant at the time, how this book has changed over the years based on who was editing and curating the images, and that there are actually close to 10,000 images from this series. It’s an interesting concept, to shoot “democratically” – to essentially photograph with the thought of inclusivity instead of always being selective in what you capture. Photographers are taught to train their eye so that they only capture moments that have a perceived value (whether that be for a client, or a personal project, etc.), excluding images that are unworthy of capture. Eggleston turned that theory on it’s head, seemingly making photos of the mundane, the way we live instead of how we “want to look.” He would often break down a scene into it’s elements of colour, shape, etc. focusing on bringing those to life in his frame. This COVID-19 Pandemic has had me evaluating what I want out of my photography, basically what purpose does it serve in my life? I’ve always been a reactionary shooter, one that tries to be inspired by the moment to make the “best” photo I can make. That comes from the many years of photographing live events (concerts, corporate galas, weddings etc.) where you can do some pre-planning but most of what you are documenting is what is unfolding in front of you during the day. These photos below are definitely not on the same level with William Eggleston, but it feels like the philosophy of the “Democratic Forest” applies here, especially when the pandemic has us self isolating. And in all honesty, I think that’s a good thing 😉 (at Bedford Mills) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLj64I8nlLJ/?igshid=4b0itwim9yg0

Some mornings just make you want to run out of the house with your camera. Today, the lunar new year brought the most amazing sunrise I’ve ever seen. Five swans were kind enough to pose for a few photos. How can -30 degrees keep you down? The answer is it can’t! #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #lunarnewyear #sunrise #swans #loonlake #bedfordmills (at Bedford Mills) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLMgdumnUXv/?igshid=bb3mwc2rivxe

Days are starting to really blur together. “What day was that again?” That’s certainly a question I keep asking myself, and others around me because it’s really tough to know for certain. We already can’t go anywhere, but with the deep cold weather setting in last month, it’s easy to feel like we are living in a bad rerun of Groundhog Day. I find myself staring out the window more than previous. My eye notices light patterns on the snow outside, or on the wall in the dining room as the sun is setting. Little things I might have taken for granted previously become extraordinary moments in my day now. It’s strange how life works that way. For now I guess I’ll be content with just photographing things that interest me…from the comfort of my own home. It’s not awe-inspiring but it is enough to keep my mind dreaming of warmer days, safer days, days just for exploring. #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #monochrome #blackandwhite #canadianwinter https://www.instagram.com/p/CLHsEcCnr81/?igshid=jbsgvdgoenas

I’m taking a little walk down memory lane, when life was a little simpler, when work was able to be accomplished outside of my house without the fear of catching, getting sick or spreading a deadly virus. These images were taken in early 2020 when I was still able to travel for my work. Those travels had me staying in downtown Toronto. I had a pretty amazing view of the cityscape, the Toronto Harbour to the left, the Fairmont Royal York to the right. I had a bit of time between shoots and thought I would do a little personal shoot of my own. The skyline looked incredible in black and white. #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #toronto #royalyork #cityscapes #travelphotography #westinharbourcastle (at The Westin Harbour Castle, Toronto) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKuTGnTnkRa/?igshid=1am4iaoqc40uk

We’re in full blown winter here now. Minus teens at night, not much warmer during the day. Snow covering just about everything. Can’t get my feet warm no matter what I do. Going to have to move my office setup back downstairs to the dining room for the next 4+ months where I can be closer to the fire. Necessary evil I guess, trading the privacy I need to work for the warmth of our wood stove. That’s probably one reason why earbuds were invented. I stopped to take a photo of this lone cow, separated from his/her pack. I wonder if he is a dreamer, wandering away while he has his head in the clouds? Or is he an outcast, being shunned from the warm methane-filled group of other cows? Either way, dreamer or outcast, there really isn’t much difference is there? Blindly following the pack never got us anywhere. We live fairly close to Perth ON, a cute little town about 30 minutes north-east of us. My parents moved there and they seem pretty happy, other than the trains that go through town every hour, blowing their horns as the go. Day or night, you can always hear the train horns. Perth was actually the town that I wanted to move to (that or Kingston) before we found Tett House. Guess I sidestepped a life complaining about trains, lucky me. I don’t know why this billboard with the peeling graphic of a Big Mac always makes me chuckle but it does. “Is a Big Mac with bacon still a Big M….a…..c? Is that even a question? Bacon makes everything better, even the crappy Big Mac. #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #trevorconnellphotography #weeklybloggingfeature #cows #perthontario #dreamers #outcasts #bigmac (at Perth, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIBW-YsHg89/?igshid=mx210rkbf2rp

Remembrance Day is a tough day for me, and probably not for the reasons you’d think. Like you, I have a family history of members serving in the army and air force. War has touched my family’s life in one way or another. Today is a day that we should remember and pay tribute to the sacrifices that so many made. But it pains me to see that we still support and glorify violence & war in our life when I don’t think it has a place in today’s society. There is no need for anyone to own a gun, bullets, or other weapons anymore. There is no way that anyone should be able to take another life (human or animal) in such a violent manner. If we still believe that these thoughts and actions have a place in a modern society, what have we learned from the sacrifices that millions have already made? And I know this may not be a popular opinion, based on the geographic location of where I call home (and the amount of hunters there still are around here) but I really don’t care. I don’t think guns and violence has a place in my life, and I challenge you to remove it from your life as well. Let’s use the 364 days left in the year to stand up against violence at home, in our communities and in our society. Let’s fight (using our evolved brains, not weapons) to not just promote stricter gun laws but to eliminate guns altogether. Let’s make our world a better place to live in for all beings. Because after all, remembering the ones that fought and died for us is not doing their sacrifice justice if we don’t act to make sure it doesn’t happen again ❤️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CHdF77tnoeA/?igshid=ex72i72no8i3

It’s been unseasonably warm these past couple of days and it will extend into next week. Days and weeks blur together like an out of focus lens that sometimes it’s hard to tell if this has happened in November before, or if it’s just another curveball 2020 has thrown us. But since it’s warm outside, I find myself reminiscing about summer days, full of warm breezes, the sun full in the sky, and refreshing water. We love renting a pontoon boat (shout out to Norris’s) and spending the day out on the Upper Rideau, preferably with friends and family. There isn’t much better in life than being out on the water am I right? I stood out on a log this morning, watching the sunrise and letting it’s warmth envelope me. When I closed my eyes, I could transport myself back to that summer day, where all of life’s pain, injustice and hatred just faded away. It was just for a moment, but the peace and calm that came from that second or two gave me the strength to carry on my day. #fujix100f #my100andme #myfujifilm #myfujifilmlegacy #notfromhere #notfromhereblog #trevorconnellphotography #upperrideau #westportontario #westporton (at Westport, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHNmV0dnE6p/?igshid=1koz86rbi7r0n
