Uhhhg, I don’t know what to do with this, I tried to do something quick and it ended up taking ten times longer then my usual way of doing things *huge facepalm* I’ve been staring at it so long I don’t know if it’s good anymore,I thought it was funny at the time, so I’ll post it anyways, still trying to get better at painting, must force self to post failures too, I’m sorry ;_;

the hs epilogues pretty much turned Everyone into caricatures of themselves. karkat was a bootlicker in early canon so now he's a high-ranking member of the army. jane was controlled by the tiaratop and defended crockercorp pre-sburb so now she's a fash. ridiculous

Yea i dont like any of them in the epilogues. What they did to Jane is especially upsetting to me

#idk am i being whiney. probably #i dont mean to deny canon or 'dubiously' canon content made under the supervision of the original author #like i can acknowledge that okay this is the direction they went. and i dont like it. it makes me sad #it gives me a big frowny face. that this is what they chose to do with these characters i love so much #thats it. #i think thats as valid a reason as any to not accept post canon into my personal headcanon #filling in the blanks yourself is so much fun anyway #also i kind of hate johnrezi

Gamzee in the epilogues should have been uncomfortably nice. I think his way of showing everyone that hes been "redeemed" is by acting exactly how he did before murderstuck and everyone is terrified of him because they dont believe him. And then he does something heinous completely out or nowhere and is like oops :o) and goes right back to being nice. I think it would have been a fun balance of his pre and post sober tendencies and made him into a cohesive character and just like his trollian handle says - terminally capricious. I think it would have been fun to see his moiraillegence with karkat to have lasted more than the one page and seeing more interactions between the two of them as karkat tries to keep him in check. I think it would have been a better use of his comedy and tragedy themeing, his grappling with his place in the narrative and what it meant to him now that he escaped it. What is scarier - someone you know to avoid because theyre just consistently an awful person to be around or someone in which theres no telling if theyll be a kind, supportive friend or a homocidal maniac at any given moment. This is Gamzee to me

It certainly doesnt help that hussie themself talks about the characters in homestuck as if they werent created from their own imagination. I completely reject their suggestion that Gamzee was a monster from the start and was only acting nice so that everyone would let their guards down because it doesnt make any sense. My issue isnt with him being a villain, I *love* once optimistic kind characters being chewed up by their situations and spat out bitter and evil. I love a corruption arc. My issue is that hussie didnt seem to know what to do with gamzee beyond that point (we know that he was planned to snap from the moment he was introduced) and like you said, practically ceases to be a character after murderstuck and just becomes an antagonistic plot device... i would have loved if he got to speak more, even if it was just with caliborn or whoever else on the meteor. I think it would have been interesting if cracks of the "old gamzee" shone through occasionally. Even *one* interaction with Karkat and him post murderstuck would have gone a long way i think. But hussie had him turn a full 180 and made him just completely and irredeemably evil and pushed him into the background because thats just easier instead of writing a cohesive character.

(Also do we have confirmation that Aranea was mind controlling him the entire time he and Terezi were in a relationship?)

I thought i liked Gamzee in the epilogues at first because it was the first time he got to speak since like. Murderstuck all the way back in act 5. But .. why did they make him a misogynist. I think the descriptions of his body odor and overall repulsiveness are good and really funny. And him insisting that hes redeemed despite literally not doing anything is also hilarious. but making him into like a skeevy predator is just . Not his brand imo. Like yes hes bad but not that kind of bad. Not my clown

And i completely realize im being like that meme right now thats like "oh i can excuse MURDER but i draw the line at sexual harassment" ".....you can excuse murder?" Like this character is so clearly meant to be all the worst things a person can be but isnt that boring? Isnt that so obvious? Wouldnt it have been so much more interesting if, in keeping with his capricious tendencies, he actually was a decent person at times? Its why so many people like the idea of him being a good father to Calliope and Caliborn because its completely plausible. Hes shown that he can be a helpful and empathetic person pre-sgrub and i dont think him sobering up should have completely done away with that aspect of him. It feels cheap and inconsistent. The candy epilogue turns Gamzee into a caricature of himself thats just unpleasant to read because they just chose to exaggerate that one character trait and make him just bad for the sake of being bad. He doesnt need to be a *good* person by any means i just think it woulr have been so much better if he was just as unpredictable and strange as he was in the comic
