something I’m really appreciating recently in Taylor’s songs is that she’s writing about the thoughts brains can have when you’re feeling really low.

Because yes, I can relate to the feeling of “I might just die it would make no difference” when things feel beyond bleak. Or of feeling so pitiful about why you’re sad in the first place that you’re embarrassed in front of yourself.

Or, casually stalking an ex friends or partners life through social media and watching them go on with their life w/o you and wonder what it would be like if you were still friends/partners. And wonder if they ever wonder the same thing about you too. Do they miss you? Does it feel weird to them too to not know each other anymore after knowing each other so deeply for so long? Do they care when they see you move on with your life? We’ve all done this.

And honestly having a massive crush on someone and creating a whole fantasy scenario in your head where you are together is .. umm …deeply relatable? And kinda hanging on to that fantasy when things feel like garbage … it’s kinda nice to know that’s not just a ‘you’ thing?

Being so depressed you overcompensate so much to ‘seem fine’ you end up acting like it’s the best day of your year? Hating the shitstorm that is your life that you find yourself daydreaming about running away to a literal different country (or Florida, same thing) and starting a new life?

None of these are things you might openly advertise as part of your existence because they don’t feel pretty and maybe you feel some shame about them and think people would judge you or call you weird for them … but yet, they exist. And goddammit knowing that other people go through it too - even Taylor swift - is so strangely comforting idk for me it makes me think like, okay, maybe I am a weirdo for all this but SO IS SHE, so like, it’s fine I guess? There really is something to be said for connecting over shared human experiences and that making you feel less alone

see the thing is. you can't just put out a full-length documentary of you detailing how you want to get more political and "be on the right side of history" for all the world to see and for your words to be immortalised only to go back into silence in the span of just a few years. putting out a documentary like that is a promise and it's one that she went back on
