WeRise founder and executive director LaMon Bland, is currently being held in detention under New York State law. Over the last three years, Mr. Bland has been challenging an arrest and conviction rendered by New York State. New evidence now questions the legitimacy of the past conviction. More recently, Mr. Bland has made allegations of targeting and retaliation by New York State. Therefore, in the interest of fairness and transparency, it is appropriate for this and all other matters between New York State and Mr. Bland be publicly heard and resolved in a federal court. Tuesday September 14, 2021 “When They Go Low, Make Sure They Scrub The Floor While Down There!” We Rise To Legalize Founder Calls For Reform In Manhattan District Attorney Office Citing Prosecutorial Misconduct & Obstruction Of Justice Former First Lady @Michelle Obama once said “When They Go Low, We Go High”, in response to negative campaign attacks by Republicans against Democratic Party leaders. It now appears the New York County District Attorney’s Office, in coordination with Democratic Party leaders, has gone so ‘low’ that state and federal laws have been skirted in the process. Newly released evidence shows they may have maliciously prosecuted an African American father of two at the direction of the Manhattan Democratic Party leader. This is not an instance where law abiding citizens reported a crime to law enforcement. Here facts suggest the county prosecutor has used its police and prosecutorial powers to unlawfully harm a citizen as a political favor. And rather than accept responsibility it appears they are using unlawful tactics to obstruct justice and avoid detection. If fact they broke the law then this is an opportunity to correct an institutional deficiency within the justice system. There appears to be a system where the politically connected persons can use their influence to unlawfully request prosecutors and judges to violate the law. Equally disturbing, in this specific case, it appears individuals in both the district attorney’s office and the court system acted unlawfully to carry out the request. In doing so they violated the law. Since they have chosen to go low now they must certainly take steps to clean up the mess. A formal investigation, by an independent body, is necessary to determine if this was an isolated incident or a ‘pattern & practice’ of abuse. Racism has left many of Black Americans to live with the collateral consequences of an unjust convictions. Usually it takes years before justice is served. This is an unique opportunity because the administration that engaged in the misconduct can participate correcting the misconduct while it is ripe. Read more... "Federal bills are inherently racist and are attempting to ‘whitewash’ bad acts against Black American communities.” Don’t ever negotiate against yourself. Decriminalization & equal access to licenses have become the carrot in a one-sided proposition. Those provisions plus Government Accountability, Damage Assessments and Reinvestment Plans should be included as a matter of RIGHT! Otherwise the federal bills are inherently racist and are attempting to ‘whitewash’ bad acts against Black American communities. No state or federal cannabis legalization has admitted the government’s role in intentionally harming Black communities. No legislation has language to calculate the cost. No legislation offers government commitment to reinvest in the communities they damaged. And that is why the recent federal cannabis bill is racist on its face. While on the subject of ‘Patriotic Duty’. President @JoeBiden has done nothing to correct the US War on Drugs that he literally orchestrated with the intent to attack Black American communities. We all acknowledge COVID as a problem. But RACISM is the leading public health and national security issue that continues to be overlooked in America. And that is why the recent federal cannabis bill is racist on its face. Don’t neglect those that got you here! In 2021, History was made in Georgia thanks to African American voters led by a an extraordinary coalition builder named @StaceyAbrams. Those voters sent a mandate from the South across America that racism must end. Any federal law, to include the cannabis bill, that was birthed in discrimination must acknowledge & correct those policies and practices. That is why @WeRiseToLegalize has requested a meeting w/ @SenateDems Leader @Chuckschumer @senschumer @bloombergbusiness @bloombergopinion (at 780 3rd Avenue New York Ny 10017) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR85urZrQPk/?utm_medium=tumblr

4.20.2021 2021 marks the 50th Anniversary of the War on Drugs being waged on Black and Brown Americans across the United States. To stop inequitable cannabis reform from continuing on a State level, @WeRiseToLegalize calls on President Biden to end the 50 year War on Drugs and monitor the Federal Overhaul. The same people that jailed cannabis entrepreneurs are now the the new Cannabis "PLUGs" ! History has shown that model will not end well for Black and Brown Americans. All States and the Federal Government should commit to Solid Reparative Measures.
