look. i’m sick and fucking tired of seeing such horrible and inhumane responses to the global strike for palestine happening this week. it’s not just some “tumblr phenomenon”. nobody is forcing you to take off work. nobody is forcing you to take off school. use your brains and figure out that the strike is for justice in palestine. the point is to DO WHAT YOU CAN. even if that just means reblogging posts, telling a friend who might be able to do more, participate in the boycotts, make informative posts yourselves. i know that is all do-able to the majority of you. have a heart. this is not supposed to be comfortable. this is not supposed to be nice. innocent lives in Gaza are being killed by the second and the strike is to keep up the pressure for a ceasefire. the doctors who stayed behind in every single hospital and got sniped, kidnapped and tortured for their efforts. the director of al-shifa whose hands were broken and was forced to crawl on all fours. the doctors of al-amal and al-nasser hospital who were stripped and bound and beaten.

is there anything worse than watching people who are brave and conscientious and principled punished for it? people who are determined to do their duty until their last minute standing? is there anything like this, watching them waste away at their posts for five months straight?

How the fuck can Israel play a propaganda ad about bringing dads home, an ad that cost millions of dollars and was likely played by OUR TAX DOLLARS and bomb Rafah at the same time? 1.4 million people are stuck in Rafah right now. guys i actually beg of you to not let palestine become an unpleasant flashback, a transient tumblr trend, a hasbeen subject that just faded away. as an arab—and specifically iraqi—girl, i know what it feels like to have family displaced all over the world as a result of western imperialism. i know what it feels like to not be able to step foot into your homeland because it’s no longer safe. as an american iraqi, raised in the us and insulated from my roots, it wasn’t until last summer that i was able to visit iraq for the first time, and even then my family was worried for my safety—in my own blood country. although nothing like what palestinians are experiencing right now, it might be the tiniest semblance of what it feels like to watch your country disintegrate in front of you.

and this is a universal arab experience. i volunteer weekly at a refugee center that serves middle eastern refugees, and every day i see the longing in their eyes when they speak of where they hail from. it’s safe to say that we will be getting a wave of palestinian refugees very soon: just another generation of arabs who can’t inhabit their own country.

arab culture is so rich, so profound, so beautiful. i am tired of being told by the world—through literal genocide—that it doesn’t mean anything. please never let this be forgotten. free palestine. free palestine. free palestine.
