thanks for the request!!

todd and neil live in a comfortable little apartment in new york city.

and they absolutely love living in the city.

neil is an actor, obviously.

and todd is now a published writer.

in addition to poetry, todd wrote a book about his time at welton, he also writes plays (which neil absolutely adores).

they’ve been married for a year and half now.

they wanted to get wedding rings that remind them of one another’s eyes, something like these:

todd and neil spend their time when they’re not working, walking around the city holding hands, exploring parks, going to thrift stores and cafes.

but, they mutually decided that they needed something more in their lives.

and so they became the best parents a kid could ask for.

neil, having struggled with his relationship with his father was determined to be the exact opposite of the man.

he’s the most supportive and encouraging father, always backing up his child’s ideas and supporting their passions, encouraging them to come out of their shell and express themself.

all he wants is for them to be happy.

todd was a little nervous about becoming a parents, but neil assured him that there’s nothing to be nervous about, that he would make a wonderful father.

todd is the most loving father, he’s always there to have a long therapeutic conversations when ever his child needs someone to talk to.

he always knows just how to calm them down and make them feel better, and neil is always by his side to make them laugh.

the family will spend rainy evening cuddled up by the fire place while neil reads aloud or tells stories.

or they’ll dance around the living room to their favorite vinyls.

the amount of food they make for the tiny family is insane.

todd will wake up in the morning to the sound of sizzling bacon and the smell of coffee and walk into the kitchen to see neil (the early riser of the couple), along with their child making a HUGE breakfast for them.

stacks of pancakes, muffins, cinnamon rolls, all of the food you could imagine.

they bake together all the time, which often ends up with the three of them making a mess, but they’re always full of laughter.

todd writes little poems to put in their kids lunch box so they get a sweet (and slightly embarrassing) surprise at school.

he writes poems for neil too and slips them in his bag so he finds them while he’s at work.

todd introduces his child to poetry and reads to them all the time.

the three of them will take on roles and read shakespeare plays together, they usually end up running around the apartment, acting out scenes in costumes they crafted out of flashy clothes from the thrift store.

there’s a little ice cream parlor down the street that they take walks to together all the time.

the three of them goofily skipping down the sidewalk holding hands.

the rest of the poets become honorary ‘uncles’.

their child loves to tag along to watch neil’s rehearsals.

and of course, every time neil is in a show, his kid and todd are always the loudest cheers in the crowd.

The DPS: COVID edition

🎭Neil🎭: My boy spent his quarantine being productive. He added a bunch of random special skills to his acting resume including but not limited to: Tuba, modern dance, and a bunch of fun accents and dialects. He was pretty serious abt following COVID regulations and posted “wear ur mask <3” on his story plenty.

🪴Todd🪴: He rly missed Neil and his buddies during quarantine, but he followed regulations like a good citizen. He spent his time writing letters to his friends but in a pen-pal aesthetic-y kind of way since this is modern day. Like his letters all look super nice and he sent them stickers and shit.

🎷Charlie🎷: Mmmm he wore his mask but he did not social distance. Not in a “COVID is a hoax” kind of way, he just really values his social life and would rather not have to spend all his time indoors with his parents.

💕Knox💕: Anti masker (sorry) probably got COVID because he refused to take the vaccine. Argued with Meeks and Neil about it.

🪐Meeks🪐: My boy Stephen Meeks is an educated king. Made sure everyone was masked up and vaccinated. (except Knox RIP.) He spent his quarantine taking a break from smart stuff (as he should he deserves rest!) He watched trash TV, hung out with the family, and read some books just for fun.

🕹Pitts🕹: Pitts took every precaution and was super safe but somehow ended up catching COVID lmao. His mom was definitely the type to enforce lots of family walks and bonding time during quarantine. I feel like his mom would also be the type to put those mommy timers on his phone so he had to turn it off at like 9 pm so F in the chat for Pitts. 

🕰Cameron🕰: I feel like Cameron would have really overbearing parents that take COVID super seriously (as they should) and they’re super-duper in his business. His whole thing is respecting authority so he listens to everything they say though. They’ve got him double masking, following the proper precautions, etc.

📖Keating📖: He’s a teacher so he got the vaccine before most people, he takes this shit seriously (duh) He bought one of those Rachel Ray cookbooks and spent quarantine learning how to cook. He’s not very good and he knows it, but his wife pretends to love it which he appreciates.

YESS I got so many requests for anderperry I must make content for the gay poetry boyfriends (modern AU bc I love modern DPS stuff)

Neil learned which sweaters Todd likes to steal the most and always makes sure to spray extra cologne on them so when Todd takes them he smells Neil no matter what

Neil likes to lay his head in Todd’s lap when they read together

He also loves when Todd sits against the wall/headboard and legs Neil lay between his legs with his head on his chest

Neil hums a lot when he’s reading/writing/doing work and Todd made a fun game for himself about it. Every time he heard Neil singing he has to figure out which song it is without asking Neil directly

Todd then makes it a point to play the song he last heard Neil humming when they listen to music together because he likes watching the way Neils eyes light up and he likes seeing how excited he gets as he yells “you know this song??? This is my favorite song it’s been stuck in my head all week!!”

Todd never tells him that he purposely looked for it, it makes Neil more excited to think it’s just a coincidence

Neil loves to tell Todd he loves him, but he loves coming up with creative ways to say it even more

So far his favorite way to say it is telling Todd “you are the most incredible poem there is, and I will recite you till the day I die”

Todd cried (and cries every time) when Neil told him that

Todd got really good with writing in Shakespearean and writes Neil poems in said form constantly

Neil calls Todd “Whitman” a lot. Like at least once a day

Todd is an astrophile. He loves stars, astrology, space, all of it

Neil takes him on late night drives to the mountains to star-gaze regularly because he loves hearing Todd actually talk about what he likes

Todd will rant for hours about certain constellations, planets, space, and Neil just lays there and listens to him, making sure to ask questions about whatever he’s talking about every now and then so Todd knows he’s listening

Todd sits backstage for a lot of Neils performances

he likes to see Neil when he’s not on stage and give him kisses and tell him to break a leg before he goes back on stage

He’s also a huge help, he helps people find props, fox their costumes, and just lifts everyone’s spirits by telling them how fantastic they’re doing and constantly telling them “break a leg!” In his most cheerful voice

He spent so much time backstage at every show helping actors out and lifting everyone’s spirits that he was recruited as a stage crew member

Todd was the first one to say I love you, he said it after one of Neils biggest performances as soon as he finished his bows and came backstage

It made Neil cry. He hugged Todd as tight as he could and picked him up and spun him around before kissing him and telling him he loved him too

They both obviously prefer proper kisses, but if they’re in a rush or saying goodbye/goodnight they both have their favorite places to plant a quick peck

Neil loves to give Todd forehead kisses, he loves to kiss Todd’s hand, and loves to kiss the tip of his nose

Todd loves to kiss Neils temple or cheek

Todd loves hand holding, he absolutely adores it. He always says that his and Neils hands just fit together perfectly.

Whenever he’s anxious or getting overwhelmed he’ll grab Neils hand as quickly as he can

They learned morse code together and communicate by taps or by squeezing each other’s hands in the right patterns when they’re in a place they can’t talk in

Todd doodles on Neil while he reads/studies, usually while he’s laying in Neils lap, or when Neil is laying in his lap

Neil got one of the doodles tattooed, it’s a simple flower with a heart above it on his shoulder

Todd cried when Neil showed him it, and then decided it was only fair if Neil drew something for him to get tattooed as well, so now they have matching doodle tattoos in each other’s style

(these are all modern day au)

he loves loves loves halloween. the boys look forward to that day all year and he never disappoints. pitts is in charge of choosing the movies but meeks takes care of everything else; decorations, baking, handing out candy and helping the poets with their costumes.

somehow, he got all the boys to actually enjoy reading books (apart from poetry). now they all come to him for book recs.

of course he's a genius at math, physics and all those subjects, but he can't even begin to understand how todd and knox are so good at drawing. he's always mesmerized watching them sketch.

was the first one of the group to get a drivers license and immediately became the designated driver (he doesn't mind tho)

loves talking about classical music with cameron !!

religiously goes thrifting on the weekends with todd

Dead poets society and their music tastes (modern day)

Neil: Aside from showtunes? He’d be really into Hozier. Anything grand and dramatic and romantic and also a little sad

Todd: Neil is the one to play music in the dorm, so Todd just listens to whatever he puts on, but secretly he’d be really into Conan Gray and Lana Del Ray. 

Dalton: Charlie listens to Eminem and thinks he can also rap. He (poorly) performs the real slim shady at one of the meetings and it’s brilliantly terrible

Knox: I hate to say it I really do, but Knox listens to male manipulator music. I love Knox but my man listens to Hobo Johnson and genuinely thinks that weezer is groundbreaking

Meeks: I think out of everyone, meeks would secretly have the best taste in music but he’d never ask for the aux. He listens to a little bit of everything; classical music, oldies, jazz, but not in a pretentious way. He would have some pop music that he likes. 

Pitts: Pitts listens to those FNAF songs from like 2015 LMAOO and also vocaloid stannie his fav is len

Cameron: Cameron’s entire identity is worrying about doing what’s right and not messing up and I feel like as a result of that he wouldn’t develop a taste for anything on his own, but I feel like he would try and listen to the stuff his friends listen to. I love him, but my man does not think for himself. Also, we know that he *loves* the clarinet, based on the poetrusic scene.

Keating: listens to classic rock, was in a grunge band back in high school, also he is def a Beatles enthusiast
