My experience with lesbianism and aromanticism were extremely similar. Lesbians struggle with accepting that we aren't attracted to men and aros struggle with accepting that we don't feel romantic attraction. Aromantics and lesbians have similar issues with our identities and I feel like it should be talked about more.
Today one year ago one of my favorite shows aired their finale! This show got me to draw fanart again and made me fall in love with so many characters! Happy anniversary to The Owl House!!!
EDIT: Thanks to @anistarrose for typing this out for accessibility purposes!
[Image description: digital art of the cast of The Owl House in Watching and Dreaming. Luz and her friends are facing right with confident expressions, with Amity and Willow casting spell circles. King and Eda, the latter in her harpy form, have their backs to Luz, and King's letting out a powerful shout. The background is purple and dotted with stars, with Belos's face looming behind them. End description.]
"oh, but you said you had a crush on someone-" no. that was me gaslighting myself into thinking i had a crush on someone because of how sexually centered society is.
We need to normalize having kids explore their identities as being asexual, aromantic, or any aspec identities just as much as any other sexuality
Many kids are capable of experiencing sexual/romantic attractions through crushes and dating, but why is it a problem when a kid doesn't have a crush or chooses to not date anyone? Even if they do experience attractions later in life with certain people (rare attractions, crushes on their friends, ECT.), it's still valid for them to discover aspec identities
Many kids are introduced into romance and sex far too young for them to understand, especially by queerphobic families
If gay kids can still be gay even after being only introduced to hetero relationships or romance stories, then aspec kids can still exist, even if they're only introduced to stories about romance
Also, labels change overtime and not everyone stays under the same label forever! This includes experimenting with different labels, especially labels under the aspec umbrella
Let kids identify as asexual, aromantic, aroace, or literally any other aspec identities without people bitching about this!
