Bi women are not rehab centres for lesbians who are struggling with the patriarchy
Girl in Red just did an interview where she delved into a song she wrote about feeling gender and sexuality insecurity in her relationship with a bi woman.
The central idea is that it took (and continues to take) multiple deeply emotional conversations with her partner to begin to work through her insecurity that her partner will eventually prefer men, leave her for a man, and the fact she will never be a man. (and no, she's not struggling with gender issues or dysphoria personally, this is solely in reaction to her partner being attracted to males)
Combined with the comments under the clip, my little bi heart was shattered.
Biphobia is excused every single day and this comment section was filled with lesbians being really overtly biphobic and then cackling about the fact they were waiting for "the wave of screaming bis" to show up to 'claim biphobia'
Only.....can someone explain to me how it isn't fucking biphobia to make your partner walk you through a mental breakdown about THEIR SEXUALITY??
Genuinely explain to me how that isn't biphobic
I wouldn't date someone who hyperventilates over the thought that my hair is brown so why tf would I accept multiple deep-relationship convos about a basic fact my partner knew when they chose to date me?
Now, Girl in Red at the very least acknowledged that it wasn't cool, was 100% her problem etc, and in my opinion she has every right to explore that kind of thing in her art. But the way the comment section reacted was essentially "shut the fuck up bi women, you'll never know how insecure we are because of how you lot fuck dick and a lesbian writing a song about this is something you just can't comprehend"
There's a difference between exploring complex uncomfortable themes in a song, and deciding that it is logical and normal to treat your partner like this.

sweet mother of hell i cannot begin to articulate how perfect the business with this poll is
it's Tumblr in a bottle
it's Paris Is Burning, this incredibly serious, incredibly soulful window into queer, black, and latino life in new york in the 80's, and it's the very last round
the opponent it's struggling against? Homestuck, by Andrew Hussie, who got here riding a joke and the sunk cost fallacy
it's been barely an hour and there's over a thousand votes pulled in. at the time if writing, Paris Is Burning is winning by only 3 points, and there's a week left to the poll. it's fucked
there's been death threats, there's been suicide baiting, and it's culminating here
. . .
and i voted for Homestuck

80s American drag ball culture is so fascinating and cool to me from a social and historical standpoint. A while back, I watched this documentary called Paris is Burning which was released in 1990, and I am low key obsessed with it. Like, all these people were rejected by their families and society, and they often had no place to go or no one to support them. So they all ended up banding together to create chosen families. And due to general society's lack of acceptance of their forms of self expression, they decided to create a safespace that allowed them to reject these particular social norms and be themselves. This eventually evolved into a complex culture with traditions and styles of dress and language and social interactions and stuff. It's really beautiful, in a way. I have recently started getting into anthropology since it became one of my require courses, and ballroom culture is a goldmine to me.
I've actually started using it as inspiration for the world of one of my stories. It's just so real and alive and interesting, and it should be appreciated more.

there's no greater betrayal than finally starting to read a book you've had sitting for months on your shelf or your desk or your nightstand and then finding out it's bad. like. i gave you a fucking home.
