It's gonna be such a funny mess when Donald Trump dies of a stroke on April 1st, 2024.

Naturally everybody will think it's fake because of the date only to lose their minds (both positively and negatively based on their opinion of trump) when realizing it's real

There will be massive celebrations in the streets and on social media and lots of predictable "don't speak ill of the dead" discourse about those celebrations

Weird evangelicals will pull some weird number trick talking about how Jesus was conceived on April 1st and that makes Trump a sort of messiah and people will make fun of that

The Republicans (after they're done with the faux-sadness and faux-outrage) will stomp over each other to be his successor but none of them will succeed. They'll tear each other apart and have no single nominee for the November elections.

There will be discourse about if Biden and the living former presidents should go to his funeral (they won't, he was a traitor insurrectionist)

The Ukraine-Russia War immediately goes in favor of Ukraine as morale in the Kremlin is reduced. China similarly backs off from its threats on Taiwan.

Ten thousand new memes are made, some sticking around for years to come.

Not a month later a bunch of unofficial biographies of Trump hit the bookshelves, many with new details about just how awful he was.

Anyone have suggestions for horror/mystery books for a 14 year old? I have a few ideas but I'm pretty disconnected from newer horror esque stuff for a younger audience.

I love it for Carmy because it’s yet another talent that he could’ve taken so much joy from that has been ravaged by his trauma.

I love it for Sydney because OF COURSE that’s what she would say, of course she recognizes the brilliance. She is great at that. It’s why she can always take a step back and think. Probably also why she overthinks, and maybe she ends up doubting herself a little.

This is so funny because one time, my spouse and I were sitting across from each other in our living room, coffee table between us, and he was eating mandarines. I asked him if they were sweet, so he pre-peeled one then tossed it to me. I am horribly unathletic and was unprepared to catch it so it went right through my fingers and hit my chest. He didn’t think anything of that and just said, “They’re not bad.”

Austen didn’t make her repent because Austen didn’t want her to is a powerful concept in itself. She didn’t want to curb Lydia, and while readers may see that as a cautionary tale, I dare say that Austen didn’t want Lydia to change, because f*ck that.

Austen generally wants to keep her characters intact. “Punishment” is what society calls it, but Austen always wanted her characters to be themselves in spite of it.

Elizabeth will disdain Lydia because she is Elizabeth. Elizabeth was always about preserving the family’s dignity, not for show but for strength. Lydia never conformed to any of that. So early on she liberated herself from that obligation, because truly, nobody cares about what happens to her beyond how it would look like for the family, how it would dictate the marriageability of her sisters.

Lydia may be selfish, but she is willing to embrace the consequences of her actions. To her mind, she isn’t being punished, but I think she fully understands that Wickham now has the obligation to put up with her, because the Darcies are going to make him.
