Why is it that whenever I go on AO3, there seems to be at least a 70% that I’m going to be traumatised?

Why? WHY?!!!

I'm a little different. Wherever I see him or think about him, I want to smash his face in with a shovel.
Sorry to everyone who is thirsty for Coriolanus Snow. I can't look at this man's face without wanting to unalive myself.

Honestly, though. That was one of the only things Coriolanus wasn't wrong about.
I genuinely laughed a couple of time when reading “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, especially when Lucy Gray is singing at her interview and Coriolanus starts to get jealous and refers to Billy Taupe as ‘Lucy Grays loser boyfriend’. Man was really something else.

I don't hate the movie or regret watching it, but my biggest problem with it is how they tried to squeeze this giant, chonky book that had three parts into one movie. I don't know if I sound spoilt here. Like, I know how much time and money it takes to make a movie on this scale. But I don't think they had much to risk by making two parts. It's the Hunger Games. People would have paid to see the second part. But by only making one . There's not much room for things like development and suspense because everything is so rushed. And it screws over a lot of the actors. Especially the actors who played the tributes, who in my opinion are some of the best actors in the movie, because they at most get only a few munites of screen time each. And the actors who played the Covey, who were barely in the movie at all. I think the movie should have ended at some point during the games. Like when Sejanus was in the arena or when Jessup had gone mad from Rabies to end it on a cliffhanger, then have the rest of the story be its own film. That would have fixed so many of the problems it has.
i'm finally watching the Ballad, and wow this is terrible. Like I didn't expect a miracle out of a movie that is based on books in which being privy to the MC thoughts is super important but wow wow they fucked up the source material so badly (I have an hour left. And watched half of it at night, took a break to sleep and just 'cause I was way too annoyed to watch the whole thing.)

I don't like to bash on people, but I feel like Unhappy Campers is an example of how forced writing never turns out well. People were rallying to give Millie more character development, but it was clear Viv didn't have many ideas for her. But she tries to develop her here, and it is the WORST episode. I'm sorry, but it was cringe. I couldn't watch it. There was so much of it I skipped because I just could handle all the second-hand embarrassment I was getting. I haven't even listened to the song Look at Me because I knew it would cause me agony. The actual development of Millie on her own wasn't that bad I guess, but couldn't her character have been developed without absolutely assassinating Moxxie's and then pissing on its corpse. Like I have never felt so much embarrassment for a character before.

Oh there are so many red flags about their relationship. Such as.
After about five seconds of finding out where she lives, he sees her home, the family home of her and the Covey, as "his territory" um what the fuck.
His growing resentment for her singing any songs that he suspects might be about Billy Taupe. Like she can't sing about her life and her past experiences? Like damn.
He creates a rivalry with Billy Taupe from the moment he knows he exists. But barely acknowledged Mayfair, the girl who actively tried to get her killed. He clearly cared more about who else wanted her than who was trying to hurt her.
The real turning point for Snow and Lucy Gray's relationship is when he wishes she were still caged at the Capitol so he could at least know where she was and what she was doing. That was the moment it all really clicked. This wasn't love, it was obsession, control.

Low key disagree. I think most of them would be like this. But with how much The Capitol and district's people abhorred each other, and especially if they could see Coryo for the pos he is, some of them would think it was disgusting. I can definitely imagine Mizzen making vomit noises in the background.

After watching Songbirds and Snakes, I'm still trying to unpack just what made Coral have so much animosity towards Lucy Gray. Nearly everybody else she went after just seemed to be target because they had to be. But Lucy Gray was someone she actually wanted to kill. I can only think of two or maybe three other people she truly wanted dead. But the person she went for the hardest was Coriolanus. So I'm starting to think that she didn't actually hate Lucy Gray at all. I think she just hated Coriolanus. I think she took one look at him and thought, snake eyed bastard. I'm going to do everything in my power to make you as miserable as I can.

I love the little laugh Coral gives in this scene. You can tell she's looking at Festus and thinking, what an absolute joke. I'm betting you anything she and Mizzen brutality took the piss out of their mentors behind their backs. Or right in their faces. Probably both.

Hot take that might not actually be that hot. Hide Away is genuinely a really good song, and it does not deserve to only be associated with a certain video everyone's either cringed at or made fun of.

What I like about this is that his reaction isn't, holy shit my daughter likes girls. It's holy shit, my daughter likes girls and all this time, I never knew. You can see the parental crisis here. He's seriously doubting how much he actually knows his kid right now.
Say what you want, but this is the best scene in Dad Beat Dad

I've finished the book and there's a lot to unpack. But for now, all I can say is RIP Coriolanus Snow, for when you finally die sixty-five years too late, and may a thousand mockingjays shit on your grave.

I don't want to sound too harsh with this take but I don't get how the theory that Alma Coin is Lucy Gray is still going around, and why it's so popular, when you can debunk it in less than a second. They look nothing alike. They are nothing alike. And also Alma is at least thirty years younger than Lucy Gray.
