SE London Guide To No Rubbish
Last week Anna went to the power plant in Bermondsey where all the rubbish from Southwark goes. This is incinerated and turned into energy. About 15% of rubbish can be turned into electricity, about 30% can be turned into gas. The rest remains rubbish. It becomes very real and visual when you think of your butter wrappers, plastic envelopes, elastic bands, milk tags, cellophane wrappers, polystyrene trays, takeaway boxes accumulating over weeks and months and years, and the best we can do is recover only half of their value. The obvious reaction is to stop producing this waste, stop clogging our seas air land to help protect what's left to protect, and stop the production of what is going to be rubbish the next day. It's more difficult than you'd think. But also a responsibility. This blog is about working out how to do it in South East London.

EGGS:
Take an old empty egg box and get it filled up at the market. Simple! Even though eggs boxes are recycled anyway, one egg box can probably sustain at least 5 refills, and recycled or not, the less packaging production the better.
Eggs at the market are no more expensive than the supermarket and usually fresher too.
There are egg stalls at:
North Cross Road Market, Saturday mornings
Herne Hill market, Sunday mornings
